Oh come, come manjgu ji!

The CBI/CID have been regularly discussed in this very thread, and even been moderated by the mods for the past few years.

Your sudden claim is similar to Chinese ones of " South Tibet" !

I don't hold a similar poor opinion on this "thugee dacoti deptt", which is wat our Intelligence Bureau (IB) used to be called before independence.

To claim it's not an Intelligence "deptt" is the heights !!

I agree Air Intelligence is mentioned twice.

My post is observation to Ramanna Saar's post, that's all.

Perhaps you're right, I dunno much abt the topic.

if we take ur logic then Delhi police, Punjab police etc etc are also intelligence agencies... CBI ..CID are primarily investigating units...ofc u can argue one solves cases by intelligence !!!

So yet another agency, doing same redundant activities, in petty turf wars, and no absolute coordination, strictly need-to-know basis.

We Indians apparently are quite intelligent!!
This is a listing of all the Intelligence Agencies that India has and had. Classic Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V Job. Many of these were parts of the British Setup and folded up soon after the brits left. Others are precursors to agencies like IB. FYI Thugee and Dacoity department was setup since they had to operate across presidencies and was the Great Grandpa of today's IB.

If true, it is in one way disappointing because he should have been either killed in an Indian covert action or should have been awarded capital punishment in an Indian court.

It would be one headache less for Pakistan as he had served his purpose and they need not worry about him croaking to the world of its involvement. Now they can really say that Dawood is not in Pakistan. He was becoming a liability to pakistan with the increased scrutiny it was facing. In any case ISI would by now have all the intel and damaging evidence on the involvement of and protection given to him and his business by some members of Mumbai Police and by political leaders from Congress and NCP.

Operation Dolphin Nose: NIA arrests 53-year-old bizman for leaking vital Navy information
extract
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested a 53-year-old Abdul Rehman Abdul Jabbar Sheikh, a Mumbai resident, who is believed to be a conspirator in the Visakhapatnam espionage case. Sheikh’s wife Shaista Qaiser, who was born in Pakistan, was earlier arrested in connection with the same case for terror funding as part of the operation code-named ‘Dolphin Nose’.

Sheikh, a resident of Agripada in south Mumbai, is a businessman and runs a firm named ‘SR Enterprises’ which exports groundnut to Afghanistan. Sheikh used his wife’s phone to share crucial information regarding positioning of Indian Navy ships and submarines at its critical bases. NIA conducted a search at Sheikh’s residence on Saturday and seized digital devices and incriminating documents from his house, said an NIA official.

Earlier, apart Qaiser, NIA had arrested key conspirator Mohammed Haroon Haji Abdul Rehman Lakdawala from south Mumbai on May 15. During searches at Lakdawala’s house, several digital devices and incriminating documents had also been seized by NIA.

Turkey’s tentacles in India go deeper than thought, says new intel warning
The intel report also accused the Turkish Embassy in Delhi of forging alliances with Indian NGOs, pointing that Indian activists who serve Ankara’s agenda are increasingly being sent to Turkey on exposure trips and encouraged to speak against India.
extracted
The intelligence assessment identified individuals and groups, some of them also suspected to be in touch with Pakistan’s ISI, who had been lured to work with entities in Turkey that had strong links with the Erdogan regime.

In particular, the report listed organisations that had started accelerating what it described as “lucrative scholarships” to Indians to study in Turkey.

“Turkey has been providing lucrative scholarships and running exchange programmes for Indian Kashmiri and Muslim students to study in Turkey through state-sponsored NGOs. Once the students land in Turkey, they are approached and taken over by the Pakistan proxies operating there,” the report said.

The list of outfits that sponsor the scholarships is long, the report said. It includes Turkey Youth Foundation (TUGVA), Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Turkish Airlines, Yunnus Emre Institute (YEI), Turkey’s Diyanet Foundation (TDF) and Turkist Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

“Most of these organisations have direct connections with the Turkish government, President Erdogan or his family,” a counter-terror official said.

The TUGVA, which functions under Erdogan’s son Bilal’s patronage, has developed strong links within India by establishing connections with Islamic outfits in India including Jamaat-e-Islamic Organisation’s student wing, Student Islamic Organisation, the report said.

The intel report also accused the Turkish Embassy in Delhi of forging alliances with Indian NGOs, pointing that Indian activists who serve Ankara’s agenda are increasingly being sent to Turkey on exposure trips and encouraged to speak against India. Some of the Turkish organisations that have been used to launch coordinated attacks on India are its International Humanitarian Relief Foundation, the TDF (which also funds scholarships) and Pak-Turkey Cultural Association.

The TDF is part of the religious directorate of Turkey, now deployed with Erdogan supporters, and tasked to build Erdogan’s image as the tallest leader of the Muslim community by championing the Islamic cause where it suits Erdogan’’s ambitions.

And Turkey’s authoritarian leader for 18 years has many.

The most prominent has been to lead the Muslim world, building on Turkey’s imperial Ottoman past. The Ottoman sultans doubled as the caliphs of the Muslim world. Erdogan and his supporters believe they can revive the Ottoman Empire’s former glory that collapsed nearly a century back, and its peak in the 1500s ruled over much of Southeastern Europe, west Asia, and North Africa’s coastal strip.

Seems a goldmine of a book:
RAW: A History of India’s Covert Operations' showcases India’s shadow warriors

The intelligence included the Tigers’ military formations as well as civilian populations so as to avoid casualties. ‘It was not LTTE alone that killed our assets,’ said Pawan Arora, a R&AW officer. ‘We later learnt that the Sri Lankan army had also been involved in hitting our informers. Just before the final and massive offensive in April 2009, some important assets were evacuated from Jaffna on a ship headed to the Maldives... At Kilinochchi in the northern province of Sri Lanka, he revealed, a compound that housed some R&AW informers had just one survivor that month and a white cat.

MEA Bungling on China: R&AW agents began to enquire in Beijing and Islamabad about Colombo’s plan. The liaison unit, working with friendly foreign intelligence agencies, reported that China had secretly provided arms and ammunition to the Sri Lankan army during the civil war and was now ready to invest more than $2 billion in Sri Lanka…China had not only provided fighter jets to the Sri Lankan army, it had also trained the pilots with the help of Islamabad.

Avinash said: ‘When we warned the India foreign service about the Chinese, a senior officer told me not to worry. Let China build the roads, he said, and we will ply our buses on those roads. When we complained about him, he was immediately removed and shifted to some insignificant position at the Delhi headquarters.’ The officer codenamed ‘PAS’ was fond of scotch and the Indian spies had reported on various occasions that he was more interested in attending high-spirit parties than protecting and preserving India’s interests in Sri Lanka. ‘Once he was trapped by our spies and subsequently confronted with the evidence, we wanted him out of Sri Lanka. He was a compromised man,’ Avinash said, quoting a report that the R&AW had ciphered to New Delhi.
R&AW launched an operation in Paris and London to neutralise UK-based Pakistani national Abdul Khan who was sheltering extremists and planning attacks in India with the help of ISI and renegade Indian businessmen Balwant, Harbakhsh Singh, BN Sandhu, Avtaar Sethi and Harpreet Ahuja. Indian agent Sanjeev Jindal was given clearance by his pop star of spies boss Anuj Bharadwaj to swing into action. With foreign operatives Clarke and Sophie, he foiled the plot and Khan was shot dead.
He provided a list of the officers, profiles of people connected to Khan and Sandhu, and above all, names of recruits in India who he believed were staunch supporters of the network. In the meantime, he forwarded the names of the Indian module to the R&AW headquarters. Jindal was informed sometime in April that eighteen people on the list had been neutralized in a covert operation and they had launched a manhunt for nine others. The conversation among the network involving Khan, Sandhu and the ISI officers revealed a plan to expand the operation and the Pakistani intelligence officers assured substantial sums of money for the attacks. In July and August, Bhardwaj was informed by his contacts in British counterintelligence agencies that the Pakistanis had been told to shut shop.

The sheer tech might of Amir-khan:
US government built secret iPod with Apple’s help, former engineer says
Shayer said he never learned precisely what the modified iPod did. He knew that the engineers were combining the modified OS with some sort of hardware added to a fifth-generation iPod. The objective was to create a device that could record ambient data and write it to the device disk—all in a way that couldn’t be easily detected.

Based on the Department of Energy’s oversight of nuclear weapons and programs, he speculates that the secret iPod was to include a Geiger counter that could covertly sniff out stolen uranium, evidence of a dirty bomb development program, or similar things.

Apple didn’t respond to multiple emails sent over two days seeking comment for this post. Tony Fadell, who at the time was the senior VP of the iPod division, has taken to Twitter over the past two days to say Shayer’s account is accurate and to provide a few additional details. According to Shayer, Fadell was one of only four people inside Apple who knew of the project. Through a representative, Fadell declined to comment. Attempts to contact Shayer were unsuccessful.

“Absolutely spot on David Shayer,” Fadell, who inside Apple circles was sometimes called “the father of the iPod,” wrote. “This project was real w/o a doubt. There was whole surreal drama & interesting story about how this project was kicked off & then kept secret.”

Does anyone know what is the 2016 covert operation the article is referring to?

Is it the same as the abortive 2015 attempt that was foiled by corrupt Mumbai cops, or something else?

Eli Cohen: Mossad Agent 88 - Al Jazeera documentary
https://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/al ... 25654.html

The life and death of Israeli spy Eli Cohen, who operated undercover in Syria in 1960s before his identity was revealed.

In one of the most audacious individual espionage operations ever, Eli Cohen, an Egyptian-born Jewish accounting clerk, was recruited by Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, trained intensively as a field agent for six months and given a new identity as an Arab businessman in South America.

In 1962, he was deployed as a spy to Damascus where he successfully ingratiated himself with the higher echelons of Syrian society.

He fed intelligence to Mossad for three years and is credited by some for enabling the Israeli military to take the Golan Heights in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.

Cohen was eventually found out, however, and publicly executed in 1965.

In this documentary, a Syrian politician and writer discusses the events that led to the arrest, trial and death sentence of Mossad Agent 88.

Very interesting discussion on the terror funding mechanisms. Towards the end, you get to hear the compensation for a terrorist who is killed - just around Rs. 1-2 lakhs for someone like Kasab! The life cycle cost for a terrorist is around Rs. 3 lakhs only. The LeT's annual operating budget is estimated at just around $10-15 MM. You can see why Pakistan is not going to ever let go of such a cheap means of bleeding India. The only way forward is for the indirect costs to climb - FATF actions, internal security etc.

And no worry about pensions either... effectively giving the Paki gernails more ROI than the uniformed jihadis

While the afsaran class show initiative in doing out of the box thinking like selling off embassy buildings, for the general awaam, including the lower ranks in the military, it might most probably be a mess like the rest of the country. And the shameless beggars are even asking demanding for a loan to reform it!

Within four months of formation: Pensions’ panel becomes dysfunctional
The Pay and Pension Commission has become dysfunctional within four months of its constitution as confusion remains within the government over pension reforms, which Prime Minister Imran Khan has described as a "more serious issue than the circular debt".

The whole exercise of the government was now revolving around the $75 million loan that it wanted to take from the World Bank in the name of pension reforms, said the sources.

Very interesting development in UAE on hawala operators. This had potential of radically cutting down on money laundering, terror financing, crime.

Gulf News Report- for hawala service providers to register
The UAE has made it mandatory for Hawala service providers in the country to register, as the country strengthens its anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing (AML/CFT) framework, the Central Bank said in a statement on Monday.
....
Hawala, or hundi, is an unofficial and informal channel to transfer money mainly used among South Asians whereby they give money to agents who then instruct their associates in the country to deliver it to the customer's house. It is estimated that between $100 billion to $300 billion flow through this informal transfer system globally every year.

With UAE being a one of the major markets for remittances, regulating this informal industry will help monitor money-laundering and counter terror funding. Remittances from the UAE amounted to some Dh165 billion in 2019, led by India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt, the UK, and Bangladesh.

India to get 5 military theatre commands, one each for China and Pak.

The Indian military is expected to be reorganised under five theatre commands by 2022 with defined areas of operation and a seamless command structure for synchronised operations.

With the department of military affairs soon to have additional and joint secretaries after Cabinet clearance, the task of reorganisation of the three services under theatre commands has begun with a China specific Northern Command and Pakistan specific Western command under serious consideration. India’s Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat has been given the mandate by the Narendra Modi government to create theatre commands much like the ones China and the US currently have.

According to military and national security planners, the northern command’s remit will begin from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh and continue up to the last outpost Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh , with the military mandate of guarding the 3,488 kilometre of Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The HQ of this command could be Lucknow.

The western command’s remit will be from Indira Col on Saltoro Ridge in the Siachen Glacier region to the tip of Gujarat with its HQ likely in Jaipur.

The third theatre command will be the Peninsular Command; the fourth, a full-fledged air defence command; and the fifth, a maritime command. The likely HQ of the Peninsular command could be Thiruvananthapuram. The air defence command will not only spearhead the country’s aerial attack but also be responsible for defending Indian airspace through multi-role fighters with all anti aircraft missiles under its control.

Currently, the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy all defend Indian airspace on separate communication frequencies and without synergy. This is despite the fact that all Indian Army Corps Headquarters are located next to an air base as a result of which there is duplication of effort and wasteful expenditure.

The planners said there is option of extending this to an aerospace command as per future requirements.

India will have only one maritime command with a possibility that the tri-service Andaman and Nicobar Islands Command being merged with this . The task of the maritime command will be to protect the Indian Ocean and India’s Island territories as well as keep the sea lanes free and open from any outside pressure.

Although in a nascent stage, the Indian Navy’s maritime assets will be placed in Karwar on the western seaboard, Vishakhapatnam on the eastern seaboard and in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. With China emerging as a threat, the possible headquarters of the Maritime Command could be Andhra Pradesh’s new capital with Port Blair emerging as another major base for naval operations.

Theaterisation refers to placing units of the army, air force, and navy under a single Theatre Commander. The operational command of such combinations will be under one officer drawn from one of the three services.

“Theaterisation of commands is imperative to integrate resources of the three services for maximising impact in any war. The geographical expanse of theatres in India demands unified commands for strategic decisions and critical outcomes that will be possible in concentrated employment of resources,” said former amry vice chief Lt Gen AS Lamba (retd).

According to senior officials familiar with the matter, all five commands will be headed by Lt General or equivalent rank commanders, who will be the first among equals with the heads of the present commands reporting to them. The task of the Chief of Staff of Army, Chief of Air Staff and Chief of Naval Staff will not be operational but involve mobilising resources to the theatre commanders as it is in the US military.

If the Andamans and Nicobar Command goes under the maritime command as is being visualised, then the CDS will have the Armed Forces Special Operation Division, Cyber Command and the Defence Intelligence Agency under him with manpower drawn from all the three services.

It's taken a lot to -re-institute the office of the CDS. Powerful incumbent service-specific lobbies, thru political insiders, kept the old system going ad infinitum - with incumbent in each branch pursuing his own hobby horse
And NO, it's not only one branch - all 3 have played ducks & drakes

Indian Army launches secure messaging app for its soldiers
NEW DELHI: The Indian Army on Thursday launched a messaging app called SAI that will provide secure voice, text and video calling services to its soldiers.
"The model (of SAI) is similar to commercially available messaging applications like WhatsApp, Telegram, SAMVAD and GIMS and utilises end-to-end encryption messaging protocol," the Indian Army said in a statement.
The Army developed and named the messaging app as SAI, which stands for Secure Application for Internet.

Writing this as the angst against corrupt powar and his anti India goons, Every time time there is an increase or emergency in prices of onions that clan is in power. And subsequently rise in anti-national activities /BIF I have no doubts in my minds that the part of these profits go towards funding them.

Look at the history of increase in price to increase in such activities. Right now it has jumped to Re 66 from Rs. 10 (At one time it was almost 100), and conveniently it is controlled. The mafia from M'stra does this, following are some statistics on cultivation by states :

India second largest producer in the world and you have to import what a shame (Data is from 2018):

Maharastra : 28%

Madhya Pradesh: 20%
Karnataka: 16%
Gujarat: 6.82%
Rajasthan:6.77%
Bihar: 6.30%
Haryana :4.74%
Andhra Pradesh: 3.64%
Tamil Nadu: 3.47%
West Bengal:2.83%

He was based in the British embassy in Seoul but was captured by the invading North Koreans.

During his three-year captivity, he read the works of Karl Max and converted to Marxism.

But his conversion was mainly the result of seeing American Flying Fortresses 'relentlessly' bombing what he regarded as defenceless people in North Korea.

It 'shamed' Blake, who felt at that stage that he was working for the wrong side.

'That's what made me decide to change sides. I felt it would be better for humanity if the communist system prevailed, that it would put an end to war, to wars.'

India widens its counter-terror grid as Intelligence Bureau to expand network to cover 825 locations.

The Intelligence Bureau is all set to enhance its network of information gathering aiming to tab inputs swiftly by doubling its ground locations across the country.

India's internal intelligence agency, that is flooded with 150 inputs a day ranging from terror alerts from conflict hit Kashmir, north east states, Maoist zones and suspicious terror activities in urban India, is looking at expanding its network to 825 locations from the current 374 that work under the Multi Agency Centre (MAC) set up in 2001 after the Kargil conflict of 1999.

The Union Home Ministry shared the details of the blueprint of the proposed expansion with a parliamentary panel.

"A total of 374 locations are presently on the network. In phase III, the network is being extended to 475 districts selected in consultation with State police chiefs. Out of 475 identified locations, 451 locations have been found feasible for providing connectivity, out of which 174 districts have already been connected. When completed, the network will cover 825 locations around the country," the Home Ministry said.

The panel was told that MAC was established as a comprehensive system of communication and connectivity to share, disseminate terrorism-related information and data.

MAC is a common platform for inputs coming in from various intelligence agencies where it is collated and passed on for further action.

"For this purpose, the national capital was connected with 25 central member agencies and all state capitals. In the State capitals, the network links the SMAC (housed in the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau/SIB), State Police Special Branch, and offices of all central and other counter-terror agencies. The government has now planned to expand the MAC network base, the home ministry response said.

"On an average, every day MAC gathers, collates, stores, shares and disseminates about 150 inputs to concerned agencies. Special alerts are also issued as and when called for."

The network works on two software platforms-an intelligence sharing tool called Threat Management system (TMS) and a database tool called National Memory Bank (NMB).

MAC underwent an overhaul in December 2008 after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

The Union Home Ministry said the inputs are broadly divided under four heads - Jammu and Kashmir, North-East, Left Wing Extremism and rest of India. "LWE- related inputs form the largest proportion of total inputs received by MAC currently, reflecting the spread of the problem across several states," the home ministry said. :?:

It added that government has designated MAC as the nodal point for sharing of intelligence with Bangladesh and Myanmar. In this capacity, inputs on terrorism are regularly shared with counterparts in these countries.

Always had suspicions.. especially during the Nuclear Sub development.

Senior Indian space scientist alleges he was poisoned with a a deadly chemical at ISRO headquarters in 2017
Senior Indian space scientist alleges he was poisoned with a deadly chemical at ISRO headquarters in 2017. Tapan Misra on Tuesday has alleged that he was poisoned with a deadly chemical on May 23, 2017 at the headquarters of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) when he had gone there to attend a promotion interview.

"I have come out in public as I fear for my life post retirement. I am retiring this month," Misra, Senior Advisor at ISRO, told IANS.

Two former space agency chiefs could not be reached for a response, while one declined to comment on the allegations.

In a Facebook post, Misra wrote: "We, in ISRO, occasionally heard about highly suspicious death of Prof. Vikram Sarabhai in 1971. Also heard occasional doubts about sudden death of Dr. S Srinivasan, Director of VSSC (Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre) in 1999. Case of Shri Nambinarayanan in 1994 is well known. But I never thought that I will be at the receiving end of such mystery."

"I was poisoned with deadly Arsenic Trioxide on 23rd May 2017, during promotion interview from Sci/Eng SF to SG in ISRO HQ at Bangalore. Fatal dose was probably mixed with chutney along with Dosai, in snacks after lunch." "What followed was nightmare lasting for almost two years...Severe loss of blood to the tune of 30-40 per cent through anal bleeding. I barely could come back from Bangalore and was rushed to Zydus Cadila hospital in Ahmedabad," Misra said. "It was followed by severe breathing difficulty, unusual skin eruptions and skin shedding, loss of nails on feet and hands, terrible neurological issues due to hypoxia, skeletal pain, unusual sensations, one suspected heart attack and arsenic depositions and fungal infections on every inch of skin and internal organs," he added.

According to Misra, treatment was received in Zydus Cadilla, TMH-Mumbai and AIIMS-Delhi over a period of two years. "Famed forensic specialist, Dr. Sudhir Gupta told me that in his whole career, for the first time he was seeing a live specimen of a survivor of assassination attempt with fatal dose of assassination grade molecular As2O3. Otherwise his experience was limited to cadavers," Misra said.

Additional coastal radar stations to be completed by November 2021.

The establishment of 42 additional radar stations along the coast to strengthen coastal surveillance and prevent a repetition of terror attacks such as that on 26/11 (2008) in Mumbai is likely to be completed by November 2021, according to the Defence Ministry. The project is being
implemented by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the Indian Coast Guard.

“Post implementation of Phase-I and Phase-II of the chain of Static Sensors, the Indian coastline will be under the surveillance of 104 radar stations being one of the largest of such network,” the Defence Ministry said in its annual report. The contract with BEL was concluded on January 15, 2020 with a cost of ₹1,814.32 crore.

In November 2020, BEL concluded a deal with Denmark-based company Terma to make their SCANTER 2001 radars in India under a transfer of technology agreement. “Continuing our well-established partnership from Phase I into Phase II, Terma will be providing additional technology transfer to BEL for manufacturing the radars required for Coastal Surveillance System (CSS) Phase II project. Most of the modules and spares etc. will be made by BEL and its vendors in India. The complete installation, commissioning and life cycle support of the radars is also going to be undertaken by BEL,” Anupam Mathur, vice president and general manager, Terma Asia Pacific, had said at the time of the deal.

The Indian Navy’s Gurugram-based Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC), which was set up after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is the nodal agency for maritime data fusion. The IMAC, which became operational in 2014 at a cost of ₹450 crore, is the nodal centre of the National Command Control Communication and Intelligence System (NC3I), which was established to link the operational centres and lower echelons of the Navy and Coast Guard spread across the country’s coastline, including the island territories.

Under Phase-I of the CSS, 46 coastal radar stations have been set up, and under Phase-II, 38 static radar stations and four mobile radar stations are being set up. Plans are also afoot to convert the IMAC into a multi-agency National Maritime Domain Awareness centre. Some of the Indian Ocean littoral states such as Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Seychelles have also been integrated into the CSS, and discussions are on with several more countries.

In other important news -
https://www.wionews.com/india-news/indi ... nka-357451
As part of a high-level defence engagement with Sri Lanka, India earlier this month provided the country with 341 Indra Radar spares worth 200 Sri Lankan million. The spares will be used to provide support to the four Indra MK-11 air surveillance radars gifted to India by Sri Lankan Air Force in 2011.
India has also completed the annual life extension checks of 54 shoulder-launched surface to air IGLA missiles of the Sri Lankan Air force. This coincided with the handing over of the spare parts.
The development comes even as under its SAGAR vision - Security and Growth for All in the Region, India has been reaching out to many Indian ocean countries. November of 2020 saw India-Sri Lanka-Maldives NSA level trilateral with focus on more increased cooperation amid challenges like piracy, maritime security and counter-terror.
