I think while KNPP was the target, please also note the power production was not hit.

People to understand
1) Key metal Industries
2) Nuclear power Industries
3) Transport Infrastructure

is very important to Indian development and has been targeted by NGO Mafia and our enemies.

Government officials around the globe targeted for hacking through WhatsApp - US sources
Senior government officials in multiple U.S.-allied countries were targeted earlier this year with hacking software that used Facebook Inc’s WhatsApp to take over users’ phones, according to people familiar with the messaging company’s investigation.

Sources familiar with WhatsApp’s internal investigation into the breach said a “significant” portion of the known victims are high-profile government and military officials spread across at least 20 countries on five continents. Many of the nations are U.S. allies, they said.

The hacking of a wider group of top government officials’ smartphones than previously reported suggests the WhatsApp cyber intrusion could have broad political and diplomatic consequences.

WhatsApp filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Israeli hacking tool developer NSO Group. The Facebook-owned software giant alleges that NSO Group built and sold a hacking platform that exploited a flaw in WhatsApp-owned servers to help clients hack into the cellphones of at least 1,400 users between April 29, 2019, and May 10, 2019.

The total number of WhatsApp users hacked could be even higher.
While it is not clear who used the software to hack officials’ phones, NSO has said it sells its spyware exclusively to government customers.

Some victims are in the United States, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Mexico, Pakistan and India, said people familiar with the investigation. Reuters could not verify whether the government officials were from those countries or elsewhere.

Some Indian nationals have gone public with allegations they were among the targets over the past couple of days; they include journalists, academics, lawyers and defenders of India’s Dalit community. So Reuters narrative is Fascist Modi is spying on "journalists, academics and defenders of India's dalit community'" ( aka leftist-missionary-mullah-marxist breaking India forces ). If true, then good job Modi
Cybersecurity researchers have cast doubt on those claims over the years, saying NSO products were used against a wide range of targets, including protesters in countries under authoritarian rule.

Citizen Lab, an independent watchdog group that worked with WhatsApp to identify the hacking targets, said on Tuesday at least 100 of the victims were civil society figures such as journalists and dissidents, not criminals.
WhatsApp has said it sent warning notifications to affected users earlier this week. The company has declined to comment on the identities of NSO Group’s clients, who ultimately chose the targets.

The new policy – National Cyber Security Policy 2020 - will emphasize cybersecurity awareness and hygiene. It is likely to suggest a cybersecurity course for schools and colleges curriculum.
quite a number of agencies
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the National Security Council Secretariat (NSC), and the National Technical Research Organization (NTRO), and several other departments and agencies have their own cyber units that look at various aspect of cybersecurity.
Then there are specialised units including the Computer Emergency Response Team, India (CERT.IN), National Critical Information Infrastructure, and the National Cyber Coordinator Centre.
More are being added by the day. For instance, MHA recently launched CyCord (Cyber Cooperation Centre) under the Intelligence Bureau (IB). CyCord is a platform of several agencies and government departments. It plays a defensive role in the cyber world, and focused on hacking and online investigations . The ministry already had the National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (TAU), the Platform for Joint Cybercrime Investigation Team, the National Cybercrime Forensic Laboratory and the Cybercrime Ecosystem Management Unit.

National Cyber Security Coordinator, Lieutenant General Rajesh Panth has now been given the job of working out a structure that brings together the capabilities of all these units and agencies. “The primary task of the National Cyber Security Policy 2020 will be to bring in cohesion,” the official cited in the first instance said. He added that “there have been several rounds of discussions at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) on the issue and a broad framework has already been worked out.”

Indian couple go on trial in Germany accused of spying
The trial of two Indian citizens accused of spying on Kashmiri and Sikh groups in Germany and sharing information with Indian intelligence agents began on Thursday at the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt.
Manmohan S., 50, and his wife, 51-year-old Kanwal Jit K., were charged with foreign secret service agent activity in Germany. Starting from January 2015, Manmohan had allegedly obtained information on Kashmiri separatist and Sikh groups operating in Germany and passed it on officials of India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), posted at the Indian Consulate in Frankfurt.

From July 2017, his wife Kanwal Jit is also suspected of taking part in the intelligence gathering. In return for their service, the couple allegedly received a total of €7,200 ($7,974) from RAW. While the trial begins on Thursday, further hearings are scheduled up until December 12.
If convicted, the couple may be sentenced for up to 10 years in prison.

The intelligence coup of the century
governments all over the world trusted a single company to keep the communications of their spies, soldiers and diplomats secret.

The company, Crypto AG, got its first break with a contract to build code-making machines for U.S. troops during World War II. Flush with cash, it became a dominant maker of encryption devices for decades, navigating waves of technology from mechanical gears to electronic circuits and, finally, silicon chips and software.

The Swiss firm made millions of dollars selling equipment to more than 120 countries well into the 21st century. Its clients included Iran, military juntas in Latin America, nuclear rivals India and Pakistan, and even the Vatican.

But what none of its customers ever knew was that Crypto AG was secretly owned by the CIA in a highly classified partnership with West German intelligence. These spy agencies rigged the company’s devices so they could easily break the codes that countries used to send encrypted messages.
From 1970 on, the CIA and its code-breaking sibling, the National Security Agency, controlled nearly every aspect of Crypto’s operations — presiding with their German partners over hiring decisions, designing its technology, sabotaging its algorithms and directing its sales targets.

Then, the U.S. and West German spies sat back and listened.

^ A big reason for us to be self-sufficient in sensors.

I was thinking the other day that our NASAMS equipment should be screened very well by NTRO, since Khan knows that NASAMS is being procured to protect Lutyens Delhi where all our top political and military leadership is. A golden opportunity for Khan to sneak in some listening devices.

Also, GoI needs to clamp down on usage of personal phones and email accounts as well as develop 2 factor authentication / regular password changes for official accounts. Some recent stories:
Independent researcher finds 3000 email accounts of top govt officials exposed on dark web

Many officials are still using personal email accounts for official business. E.g. in the MHA official directory, the email address for Kerala Governor is for a gmail. From personal experience, I've seen la Secy level officer who has an official email address listed on the GoI website using gmail to communicate in reality.

Absolutely no reason to believe that 100% of Indian data/communications etc isn't compromised, esp by Unkil. Enough of human assets too to spill any beans required to Unkil ( just dangling green card or admission for babu/mantra/spooks kids in US universities is enough)

Given that nearly everything of all our secure networks and spyware is of western ( US/Israeli/European make) with negligible indigenous stuff
( the stuff we have locally also uses lots of western components and algorithms), there isn't much to hide from the big boys

Karachi-bound ship held in Gujarat over cargo that can be used in missile launch
The spectre of nuclear proliferation between China and its all-weather ally Pakistan was revived this month when Indian Customs officials detained a ship -- bearing a Hong Kong flag and bound for Port Qasim in Karachi -- for wrongly declaring an autoclave, which can be used in the launch process of ballistic missiles, as an industrial dryer.

According to people familiar with the matter, the ship, intercepted on February 3, is undergoing a detailed inspection at Kandla Port in Gujarat. They added that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which has been examining the ship, is sending a second team of nuclear scientists this week to check the large autoclave on board.

The ship, which left Jiangyin port on the Yangtze river in China’s Jiangsu province, dropped anchor at Kandla, and was bound for Port Qasim. The detention of the vessel has been brought to the notice of the highest levels of national security establishment and the intelligence agencies.

Though national security officials and the external affairs ministry declined to share details of the ship, HT has learnt that it is named Da Cui Yun and carries a Hong Kong flag. The vessel was intercepted on the basis of intelligence tip-off, and one DRDO team has already inspected the 18x4-metre autoclave on board. The autoclave – a pressure chamber to carry out various industrial and scientific processes -- has been prima facie certified as a “dual-use” item, which means it can be used for civilian and military purposes.

A second high-level DRDO team of missile scientists will go to Kandla port on Monday to further examine the cargo, according to an official who asked not to be named. If this team upholds the findings of the first team, Customs will seize the cargo, and charge the vessel and its owners for violations of Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment and Technologies (Scomet) export regulations.

According to marinetraffic.com, which maps the movement of all listed ships, the Port Mohammed Bin Qasim-bound Da Cui Yun left Jiangyin Port on January 17, 2020, and has been moored at Kandla since February 3, 2020. The 28,341-tonne dead weight vessel measures 166.5x27.4 metres and was built in 2011 in the home port of Hong Kong. Port Qasim is in Karachi, Sindh, where the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), responsible for Pakistan ballistic missile programme, is based.

Indian security officials are concerned because the nuclear nexus between Pakistan and China dates back to 1989, when Islamabad signed a deal with Beijing to purchase 34 solid-fuel M-11 ballistic missiles. The M-11s, which can deliver a 500kg payload over 300km, are at the core of Pakistan’s ballistic missile capability with all its other delivery platforms a derivative of the Chinese weapon. Around the same period, Pakistan purchased 12 to 25 liquid-fuel No-Dong ballistic missiles from North Korea despite not being a signatory to any proliferation regime. The No-Dong system can deliver a 700-1,000kg payload over 1,000-1,300km.

Experts said the autoclave episode revives memory of North Korean ship Ku Wol San, which was seized at Kandla at the height of the 1999 Kargil war. The Pakistan-bound ship had wrongly declared missile components, metal casings and Scud missile manuals as water-purification equipment. The story was first reported by HT at that time.

In the case of Da Cui Yun, DRDO investigators have so far found that the industrial autoclave is used for manufacturing composite lining for the solid-fuel ballistic missiles. The ballistic missile is propelled by a solid-fuel-based booster in its critical Phase I. For this, the solid fuel is placed in a steel alloy casing, which needs a composite material liner to withstand the high pressure and high temperatures during the launch process. An autoclave is used to manufacture sheets of silica under controlled temperature and pressure, so that they can be used as liners.

another thing i am noticing is that we are consistently picking up moles..may be we did earlier and brushed it under the carpet ..but the number is quite staggering..few days back moles were caught in navy..
i again suspect we are going for a war in coming future ..and all this is the part of clean up...

There is a reason the Chinese and the Russians are moving away from western software and to the extent possible, hardware. If Edward snowden is to be believed, pretty much everything is compromised by the NSA - the chips, the communication infrastructure, the encryption standards in widespread use...

Its not that straightforward and nor were folks in our establishment born yesterday. They too have gone to great lengths to ring-fence what we have and ensure what we acquired was not compromised.

Today an incident happened in one of the Indigo flight to Jeddah. Two passengers tried to open the door of the aircraft while it was taxing in Delhi.
Detail of the incident is given in the link below

i was on a flight to Bhubaneshawar from Hyderabad. The flight was coming from Benguluru.
There was a very large group of over 60 Muslims returning from Jeddah and going to Kolkata.
I helped in filling some of their paperwork on the flight as they didn't know English and were speaking Bengali.

Not everything is hostile or malafide.

It would be a great harmonizing gesture if neighbourhood communities give a send off to people going to perform Haj.

1) Have a sendoff community event and request them to pray for India
2) Also may be have a follow up event where you falicitate the Haj returnees and pay respect to them as they are now called "Haji". We can then make it a custom to ask them if they brought back blessings for India.

I have seen similar ceremonies in West African countries of Guinea, Mali, Sierra Leone, etc.

https://theprint.in/opinion/mystery-chi ... ve/368151/

The proliferation ring unearthed by US officials seemed to have been operating through front companies in Hong Kong, Canada, the UK and the US. Of the five indicted, one is a resident of Pakistan, two are from Canada and one each from Hong Kong and the UK. Three others linked to the case are Pakistani citizens.

The network seems to have been a family concern, run by a man named Md Kamran Wali. The group supplied the Advanced Engineering Research Organisation (AERO) and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) with goods that they could not legally procure as sanctioned entities.

The modus operandi was fairly simple. Kamran’s offices in Rawalpindi, Karachi (in Defence Housing Authority) and at an upmarket address in Islamabad, received the orders, which was then passed on to front companies outside Pakistan for sourcing. The listing provided by the District Court, New Hampshire, describes the set-up as a far-flung enterprise, sourcing satellite communication systems and emulators.

According to data from Wikileaks, a group of US officials who earlier visited its office in Wah found that it was co-located inside the top-secret Air Weapons Complex — an establishment that designs all airborne platforms for the Pakistani Air Force, including for its newest thrust area, the armed unmanned aerial vehicle. AERO is staffed by retired Air Force officers, who in this instance, were looking for technology to replace defective Chinese equipment. Put into the Entity List of the US Commerce Department in 2014, AERO has now come again into the limelight, for not just violating US laws, but also as a potential threat to the “delicate balance of power among nations within the region.”

AERO was supplying something that would have adversely affected India’s security. The most probable thrust of AERO’s present illicit exercise could be related to its race to hone its Armed UAV capability, which is fast-emerging as the chosen weapon for low-intensity warfare. With the armed UAV capability, there would be no need for that expensive, and potentially difficult to justify air raid, when a Long Endurance UAV can slip in and deliver a lethal strike against probable targets like India.

Whatever equipment it was, it was certainly something the Pakistanis could not get from China in spite of their close defence relationship.

A third company is also mentioned. The Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC), Taxila, wanted Electro-Magnetic and Radio Frequency shielding, which was shown on paper as destined for MRI rooms in hospitals. The HMC was transferred to the Special Projects Division and the PAEC in 2016. While the whole case may have merited only a few pages of print space, it is one that would have involved months of patient intelligence gathering. This is intelligence cooperation at its best.

^^wait a sec, if not china, then where does the equipment come from? NoKO wont be that advanced ot do it...thats the only other known player in the region. Every other player can take other route...i dont think it is UAV. UAV wont require high pressure autoclaves. There's something nuke/missile aspect to it...

Visakhapatnam espionage case: NIA arrests key conspirator Mohammed Haroon in Mumbai

15 May, 2020

In a major breakthrough in the Visakhapatnam espionage case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today arrested its key conspirator, Mohammed Haroon Haji Abdul Rehman Lakdawala (49 years) in Mumbai. The case relates to an international espionage racket, where Naval officers were honey-trapped by Pakistani ISI operatives on social media after which these men had leaked sensitive information related to the Indian Navy through their social media profiles.

In a statement, NIA said that Mohammed Haroon Lakdawala had visited Karachi in Pakistan on many occasions to meet his handlers under the guise of cross-border trade. he came in contact with two Pakistani spies during these visits, namely Ali and Rizwan. The NIA said that the key conspirator was instructed by the Pakistani spies to deposit money at regular intervals in the bank account of the Navy personnel. The NAVY said fourteen arrests have been made in total thus far in the case including one Pakistan born Indian national Shaista Qiaser.

NIA earlier made 13 arrests in the Visakhapatnam espionage case

In February this year, the Andhra Pradesh police jointly with the Naval intelligence had arrested thirteen people, including eleven Navy personnel and two civilians, in connection with this alleged espionage case. It was revealed that they were honey-trapped by the Pakistani ISI operatives on social media after which these men had leaked sensitive information related to the Indian Navy through their social media profiles.

Chidu pulled a fast one over us when he created NIA after 26/11.

So yet another agency, doing same redundant activities, in petty turf wars, and no absolute coordination, strictly need-to-know basis.

We Indians apparently are quite intelligent!!

Israel And Chinese have abt 10-12 Saar, they know abt Standardization, redundant activities reduction, etc.

China has larger geography, Israel faces more threats in neighborhood. Both are active in geopolitical manoeuvres.

For eg, all economic activities can be placed under a common entity, all crime and terrorism made common.

Technical agencies like NTRO, cyber, radio monitoring, signals, etc can be combined.

Ramana Saar's post shows that both IB and RAW have staffing of 25000 people, with many activities duplicated ( I understand Internal/External mandate, but when a guy upto no good returns from Nepal, both agencies get involved, IB because he is an Indian citizen planning something domestically, RAW as he is receiving aid from Foreign sources).

All the above 21 agencies are not having joint coordination and intelligence sharing mechanism, are embroiled in turf wars, and lead to more apathy, confusion and major blunders.

The most criminal part?

The above agencies have about 1.5 to 2 lakh employees combined, who have to be fed, salaries paid (minimum for entry level operative about Rs.70k per month), accomodated in valuable real estate, given office facilities, cars , computers, Mobile phones, etc.

This is paid by a miniscule minority who pay taxes ( deducted from source) and by various State /Central govt. Cesses, etc.

If streamlining/ optimization takes place, a new Mountain Strike Corps can be raised , with sufficient arty and helicopter assets.

The govt. not only doesn't generate it's own revenue, it doesn't even conduct efficient operations. Shining stars who do well like IPS Kiran Bedi are shunted out, and the Chidus call the shots.

That's why the post abt how he brazenly created the NIA, which wasn't the need of the hour, rather actionable intelligence was.
