Is that Elbit Dash ? Doesnt seem like it, which helmet is that ?
Nope, that is just a regular helmet, of the style worn by Mirage-2000 pilots. Basically a French helmet. Haven't seen DASH being used by any of the No.45 squadron pilots as yet.

LCA doesn't have an APU.

LCA doesn't have a RAM air turbine.

It is used for the environment control unit. This air is mixed in careful measurement with the bleed air of the engine to provide cooling to the electronics and the cockpit. The rest of the bleed air is used to keep the engine bay cool and escapes through the small gap between the fuselage and the engine nozzle. You can see the gap between the fuselage along the upper half of the nozzle.

That bulge appeared around the time of the cold weather tests in Leh. I think it is intake for the gas turbine starter unit.

A Gas turbine starter unit is fed air from an external compressor and should not require an intake. Indranil's reply is most apt. Also this bulge discussion has been done to death. We have seen it change shape and size through the LSPs.

btw, the title is misleading, this is NOT in LIMA 2019, I have seen this video before.

The intake of the gas turbine intake is on the underside of the aircraft. It is the rectangular opening between (and just aft of) the MLG doors.

The bulge appeared first on LSP 7. It was part of the drag reduction effort.

Don't know. It is not the primary objective.

By the way, has there been an improvement in build quality, or what?

No. that is the gun. It is the rectangular opening just underneath the watermark.

Just a touch better and it would be as good as any western fighter. Its already very close to M2K. I have a few hires images of SP11. Do we have a gallary or something on BRF somewhere to upload..?

Thanks Rahul. Yes, that is indeed the DASH HMDS that Wing Cmdr Tolani was referring to. So some squadron pilots have the DASH, others seemingly don't.

I think the DASH would be supplied with the aircraft as part of the package and IAF pilots could be using it selectively to preserve its life

I dont see any squadron insignia on the tejas. i did a quick google search and most IAF birds dont have any insignia as well, although the IN has it on the mig 29k. does anyone know the reason why IAF does not choose to have it?

They used to have it. I have seen all the MiG-2X series sporting squadron insignias. Even the Mirage 2000s and the early model Su-30s had them. Then Tipnis Grey came along and all squadron insignias went out the window.

I have reminded on multiple occasions that particular aircraft at Bhopal (PV5/6) at that point of time did not have the all weather modifications retrofitted on it that were qualified on (LSP7/8) :) Writing from memory, exact details in CAG report that has vanished from CAG site.

Multiple test objects test multiple features and once those features are qualified, not all are retrofitted to all test objects in near real time.
