Brahmos extended range cost around $7mill each so price seems bit off too.

Another twitter user claiming that the BrahMos-NG will cost around US $2.6 million each. I am still searching for the source

https://twitter.com/themave7/status/147 ... 75847?s=20 ---> Production of air-launched BrahMos-NG precision guided supersonic cruise missile for Indian Air Force will begin in 2-3 years at Lucknow. Production Rate = 100 missile per year (can be enhanced depending upon orders). Per unit cost = ₹ 20 Crore.

Looks like the first export for Brahmos is finally happening:

https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-ne ... 78707.html

While there have been rumours around this in the past, this time it looks like the real thing - it's being reported in Philippines news sites as well.

OshoCorp has become ordered to make a new 3rd ATGM.

Indian Army awards MAKE II Agreement to OshoCorp For Anti Tank Guided Missile System (ATGM)
http://oshocorp.com/vsalute/anti-tank-g ... system.php
OshoCorp will initially develop Launcher – 01 Nos, Missile: 06 Nos with 02 Nos with warhead and Simulator 01 Nos for trial and approval, subsequently produce Quantity Launcher – 101 Nos, Missile: 2330 with warhead and Simulator 06 Nos.
This seems to be an ab-inito development of a 3rd generation ATGM.

I was under that impression as well.

This now appears to be the third weapon of this class.

BDL was also working on a weapon of this class.

Not sure what this OshoCorp claim is all about. They claim they will develop it with a global technical partner, which seems code for screwdriver-giri. The OshoCorp site is also sketchy on details. We don't even know if its a man-portable one, vehicle mounted or what.

Need to know if this order is for real and if so, why them and not BDL, DRDO or VEM.

A few gems from this interview:

1) Studies done by NATO (& possibly US), show that they can defend against at-most 1.2 or 1.3 Brahmos, which means that if we launch 2 at a ship, its toast
2) The Cobra maneuver is in the vertical plane and describes it descending it to 5 - 10 metres above sea level around 20 - 25 Km away from the target
3) The 20 - 25 Km distance is important because that's the max range which can be seen by the radar on the ship's mast (earth's curvature). So, the missile dips just before it becomes visible to the radars
4) The terminal S-maneuver looks like it happens in the horizontal plane to evade close-in weapon systems
5) Reduced RCS because of composites. Plus shielding of various radiations. I guess this also means that the RF seeker has a narrow beam
6) Pin point accuracy, sea-skimming, S-maneuver etc make it a deadly missile. He's unequivocal in stating that no air-defense system in the world today, including S-400 (& presumably the Aegis as well), can defend against the Brahmos. And it will remain invincible for a decade.

This missile might be vertically launched from Ground launcher, range 25km range IR seeker missile (?) Foreign Equivalent Jumper, NCLOS, Jumper etc. My guess is that it’s relabelled Israeli Missile modified Jumper or Spike. China also has its own equivalents

Looks like a minimum-range test. The target seems barely 200m away

It'll be good if they release the specs of the MANPATGM like weight, range etc

Advanced version of BrahMos missile test-fired
"Advanced sea to sea variant of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile was tested from INS Visakhapatnam today. Missile hit the designated target ship precisely," the DRDO tweeted.

May be an ER version. In December, 2020 it was announced by IN that Vishakapatnam-class ships, under construction, would be equipped with BrahMos-ER missiles.

^^ Yes, Agni-4 was her baby and was quite different.

Not surprised about the eye in the sky during Balakot. We had UAV coverage during the earlier surgical strike against the Pakis too.

Plus during Balakot, we had ELINT "eye" in the sky as well (not sure if it was a UAV or Sat or RAW aircraft) that confirmed the presence of 300+ unique cellphone signatures prior to the fire dropping from the sky. This was, btw, an unnecessary operational-detail-revelation that our forces had to do because cretins like Rahul wanted "proof"

Regarding MANPATGM, hope they come up with a cool name for it!

Would love to see user-trials with actual shoulder-launches against targets

The latest test is pretty cool by the way: after ejection, the motor ignites and it does a quick pitch up, then sets its course towards the target. Slightly over 2 seconds from launch to hit. Hits the target in a nearly top-attack mode - looked around 45 degrees

It was one of the best talks I saw in a long time. I am also very impressed with the teams she worked with and also such a well-behaved audience. Expected more incessive questions though, given that it was IIT-K.

As far as I can see, there is no need to import any missiles now. Give 3/5 year lead time, and we can make almost anything. I wish we could say the same about other systems.

the total Anti-tank missile needs are 50,000 to 70,000 in numbers. We have quite a number of gen 1 and gen 2 missile (30-40 years old tech), that needs guidance throughout the duration of the missile fire. That exposes the firing unit and also these techs can be defeated by countermeasures. They are still useful for bunker bursting as we see many youtube video that keeps popping out. The current generation of Antitank (SANT, MPATGM, NAG etc) is just coming off. They are true fire and forget missiles and are very advanced. However, they are just being validated, not mature enough and will take time to wrap up on the manufacturing side. In time we will build some 50,000 of it. Is there scope of some additional 10,000 of various spike versions? Remember, they are mature and have capabilities that currently Indian effort lack (NLOS, 40 KM spike). Buying some number of these missiles (Spike or some other cutting edge foreign AT missile) only add to our overall capability - No different than having meteor along with Astra mk1 and 2; or having Apaches along with LCH .... The production of these AT missile will face challenges (it always does, look at any product, it always get delayed, has qc issues, is in low numbers etc etc). We have a war (2 front that is), and the spike kind of missile really give very good options. LCH with SANT can take care of threats from 300m to 8-9 KM, while the same LCH can hit 30 km far armor with Spike. I would have both capabilities.

Lot of confusion on IMO this is not 450 km ranged version which I believe is just a tweak to existing missile. This was tested earlier but rather I think this is 800 km version hence referred to as Advanced version. This sports many changes including a new booster.

Back in 2012 Dr avinash chamfer had said that drdo was focusing on tactical missiles after the success of the strategic missiles. In the next few yrs we should have a number of atgms and bvr aam

If the basic capacity required for a 3rd generation ATGM is achieved in house. Then that also provides the capability to develop a more esoteric capacity such as NLOS ATGM.

If people like us are running after what we think is niche capacity. Or a shining new toy.

We should not really be surprised if people in uniform also act that way.

We are almost there. Which means the GOI can put "All missiles" in the no-import list, rather than restrict them by type.

WVR AAM & MANPADs are the only ones which we don't have today. But DRDO is working on both of them already

^^ Before we do a lungi dance, lets check on Philippine navy's testing routine. I'm sure they also have a summer, winter, monsoon, high, low trials. In this case they might even ask their navy to test the missile in Thar desert to be sure.

Any professional military would do this amount minimum testing running into decades till the system is outdated.
