I wonder if models could be made by Indian toy manufacturers for the general public? Cheap ones for the toddlers to complex model kits for enthusiasts.Cyrano wrote:How i'd like to get one!
Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
I care nothing for the model if the real thing is not purchased. Let them buy it in the 1000s first.

Sometimes I wonder if the Indian MOD trolls people like me.
Here I am having given up all hopes that Arjun will be acquired again by Indian army. 10 years after the line went dead.
They go ahead and raise hope in people like me. The they are turning a corner.

Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
Will the 118 get the new desi 1,500HP engine or the old MTU 838 1,400 HP engine? I hope either new Indian 1,500HP engine or at least the newer MTU 883 1,500-1,600 HP engine. The old MTU 838 is obsolete. Plus the higher HP would help improve the performance, besides both the newer engines are also lighter.
Hopefully the MK2/FMBT will make the balance 882 tanks and more

Won’t be deployed against PRC sir.Pratyush wrote:Will these tanks when deployed against PRC still carry the mine plough?
Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
Not gonna happen. From what it looks like...the IA seems to be using the Football approach...during armoured ops, the Arjuns are going to be used as Goalkeepers while the tincans go ahead as Forwards. Or during FIBUA, these will be sent ahead of convoys or infantry thrusts into enemy cities.Vivek K wrote:buy it in the 1000s first.

Arjun Tank. Don't know source.

If it's based on verifiable facts and any modern day tank cannot do any better then T90.
Then it's not disparaging.

A very rare video of the Bhishma's trials in India
Wokay some thoughts running inside the head
1)My respect and admiration for Army-Team Arjun has jumped many folds
A single Mark-1A Arjun was trialled for 7500Km spanning 6 years 2012-2018(source is fellow BRFite Vishnu Som's video report from Feb on the Mark-1A) compares favorably with 2000Km of Bhishma's(more than 1 tank took part and they gave a cumulative number in the video) trial end of last millennium
2)Ragda is real
3)Missile firing is a very old requirement(?)

Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
What's the point. Nearly 2000 T90 get purchased and the Arjun is treated like dirt.
Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
It is Indian psychology. Our ecosystem of friends, relatives, acquaintances etc. compete with our own people. They quickly accept others far off as something much better and acceptable. The joke of a father and son often starts with " Dekho Shrmaji ke bete ne IAS ka mains clear kar liya, aur tum ho jo sara din idhar-udhar ghoomte rahte ho".Pratyush wrote:What's the point. This is a cultural problem of Hindu society. Our people get threatened by our own. They prefer to maintain control and ego at any cost. This has led to thousands of years of slavery.
The non-induction of Arjun is a just a manifestation of this mindset.

Chaiwallah met a few days ago over a cup of filter coffee. The 'Kestrel'...has been asked to go through a 'couple more' trials to prove modularity on the field. Hydraulic Ramp opening is 'slow' and has to be sped up (requiring some redesign) and a couple of hydraulics have to be replaced with Electricals... Rest all okay.
Also, no light tank dreams as of now. the Bahattar and nabbe are both proving themselves adequate (esp. one with the uprated engine). Force depletion at plains though...

News snippets on India signing for 450+ T-90's during Putin's India visit coming December. So tank force levels in the plains should be augmented back to earlier strength.

Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
The dammed vehicle has been under testing by the army for the better part of the last decade.
Only when it is ready to enter service. Does the army figure out what improvements are required. Especially about the hydraulic door of the vehicle.
Actions like that make me question the integrity of the evaluation process of the Indian army.

We had T90s at least for 2 decade now. What Great War are we anticipating for them to be used in…might have as well started prototyping FMBT instead of buying more tincans. Trouble is with our CI mandate there is no war so the tin can looks and acts like the all knowing Bhishma but some day a real war will be thrust only to find it was no match for the rejected Arjun. Even in the naming we forgot our roots!

FWIW - in the case of the Kestrel, it was something that was anyways planned for in future upgrades. Also the Kestrel is over-engineered (just as most Indian systems tend to be) so we can expect some changes to 'optimize' the platform.arvin wrote:And in ATAGS couple of electricals have to be replaced by hydraulics.Nikhil_Naya wrote:Chaiwallah met a few days ago over a cup of filter coffee. Lil Birdie tells me that project management has moved on from the traditional approach to a more hybrid approach with quicker turn around and a focus on interim MVP's that are shown to the brass. This is across the board which means we must ideally see more 'made for India' products soon.
I for one will be happy if the WhAP gets inducted before my daughter finishes primary school.

Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
And while the army dilly dallies on heavy armoured vehicles, it's soldiers and their families are sent to their death in 'un-armoured vehicles'...Take a look at the photos of the ambush....a country which blows up billions of dollars on imported jets... can't even afford armoured jeeps for its soldiers? See how the bullets have passed through the windshields and bodies of those Boleros like hot knife through butter.

...you know what the irony is? The same company which makes the Bolero, also makes a desi humvee! Surprise, surprise!

Did they discover agile development? We should have inducted 100s by now and be thinking abt converting it to a SPG and a Light tank.Nikhil_Naya wrote: Lil Birdie tells me that project management has moved on from the traditional approach to a more hybrid approach with quicker turn around and a focus on interim MVP's that are shown to the brass. I am sorry this pace is far too slow. We are making the best be the enemy of the better and going nowhere
Re: Armoured Vehicles: News & Discussion
What's the point of agile development when there is no agile procurement. Agile dev requires user input, feedback, and collaboration for the next iteration of improvements. Why will any company use that model when they have no guarantee that their investments will be rewarded?Atmavik wrote:Did they discover agile development?
