Yes. Standard Pakistani Mijjile-Mounting Techniique (MMT) is facing towards the rear because that is where their enemies usually are. Indian or American or Iranian. Thx

Guys standard fighter tactics is other fighters providing top cover. When Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon was engaging strike Sabres, two additional Sabres flying top cover shot him down. In this case, other F-16 providing top cover would have shot the AMRAAM at the MiG-21s, most likely active homing with LOBL at the short ranges.

I think this can be construed as an act of war. Targeting our MIL installations...I hope there is more to come from our forces after we get our WingCo back. But I would respect & accept any decisions taken by GoI on future course. They know the best currently & are aware of the stakes involved.

F100-PW-220E https://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/jo ... nes-05261/

the 2 seater F16 would be the PGM carrier having the WSO. it dropped bomb and turned back to POK, chased by our Mig21s and fired on since it had dropped weapons.

the 8 single seater F16 flying cover would be flying higher and faster on their side to get better energy for missile launches and one of these may have fired 2 amraams ?

Navy presence at the presser is an interesting development. RAdm Gujral didn't say anything specific, except that the Navy is poised to deal with any threats in all 3 dimensions, and in concert with the Army and the Air Force.

The person coordinating the presser (MoD?) mentioned showing some evidence later in the presser.

sorry for the nitpick - but during conference cant they arrange a proper arrangement where all 3 respected officers can sit and answer; calling each one of them one by one for statement and for Q does not look good. They are highly decorated officers and arrangements needs to be of that standard

For sure ferrying something. Which way? Hope our guys are keeping a tab.

Badly organized presser. Why did they not hold it sitting with a mic infront of the Force Reps?

as of now paki airspace is still closed. if they open it now, their local flights can operate. international flights already in the air will stick to plan and steer south. tomorrows flights might revert.

Good description of a dogfight as well as how top cover is provided. The Indian Gnats provided very effective top cover. Also, note when one is one the offensive, how ground based radar coverage is often lost over enemy territory while enemy radar coverage is effective over their own territory.

what kind of arrangements are this

Excellent answer by the AVM to the "pakistani gesture to return" Wg Cdr Abhinandan: The IAF is happy that he is being returned, and once he is back will discuss further (this last part I didn't catch fully). Beyond that the AVM implied that whatever the pakis are doing are only per the Geneva conventions.

Just finished watching press conference.
1. Nothing new which hasn't been discussed already.
2. De escalation is on hold till pilot comes back.
3. 35 border firings in last 2 days. So LOC is still hot.
4. Proof of Balakote strikes effect is with govt. May be released in future.

A low impact, noncomittal press briefing overall. Good show. Keep them guessing about our next steps. Airspace still closed, cities blacked out and constantly looking over the border to see if the Indians finally lost their patience.

Let us get our man back tomorrow morning.

At that point, we will be back to where we were the day after our air strikes on the terrorist camps. Then we ask for the terrorist leaders to be handed over to us or go to war.

If the AMRAAM belongs to Jordan, US needs to explain, how did AMRAAM end up with PAF.

Since US makes lot of noise about who uses it's kit, was the transfer approved by US Congress?

Based on the details it was a 2008 contract. Brand new AMRAAM were transferred through a proxy then. Like Shah of Iran sending American jets to Pak.

Pak must be having more than 500 AMRAAM.

Demarche the US amby.

One thing for sure - the F-16 proposal by LM for the MRCA competition is dead as the dodo. Not even as good as the MiG-21, at least from the aam aadmi PoV, and no govt will proceed with them as a contender.

Did anyone notice who was the intended audience for the AMRAAM part display? It was the Muricans. They were put in a spot & can be questioned on their support to terror from Pak. Also, the Pakis' loose some H&D. One fair two rides, anyone?

The showing of AMRAAM used by a state in support of terrorist group on television isn't good optic for either Unkil or Jordan. The pressure on TSP will increase to wrap this up asap.

Our folks did AAR, took stock and held the presser. The way the presses may have been conducted may have been amateurish, but the content was not. Can we stop the complaints and admire the professionalism beyond the scenes and on the battlefield?

By the way there were 6 types engaged in the air battle: Mig 21, Su30, Mirage 2k against F16,JF17 & Mirage 3.

Given the missed target, I wonder if Mirages drop dumb bombs and F16 double seater dropped LGB.

Also Pak might have been denying about F16 because they did not want to get in trouble with US by using F16. Question will be asked.

Note Pak is telling that the shoot down was done by JF17..

Pakistan has both F-16BM (Midlife upgraded two seater) and F-16B block 15 aircrafts as well as F-16D block 52 ones. The older B versions are upgraded by turky to Block 30/52 standards. So i am very sure Pakistan has two seater F-16 with GE engines in service too.

(To distinguish between aircraft equipped with these two engines and inlets, from the Block 30 series on, blocks ending in "0" (e.g., Block 30) are powered by GE, and blocks ending in "2" (e.g., Block 32) are fitted with Pratt & Whitney engines.).

Here are sources on net

Billions to Upgrade and Up-arm Pakistan’s F-16s
Jan 17, 2017 00:57 UTC by Defense Industry Daily staff

Pakistan buys 13 more F-16A/B Block 15s from Jordan; AIDEW ECM contracts finally finalized.

Sept 2/14: Delivery. Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. delivers the last 4 of 41 modernized Pakistan Air Force F-16s at a ceremony held at TAI’s facilities in Ankara, Turkey. TAI is well known for that kind of work, and the contract for avionics and structural modernization was signed in in 2009. Sources: TAI, “The Last Four TAI-Modernized F-16s Were Delivered To Pakistan Air Force”.

Also here from another source :
Modernization deliveries done
Last year, TAI started negotiating with Pakistan to upgrade 74 Pakistani Air Force F-16 fighters. If finalized, the deal will involve upgrades on a batch of 74 Pakistani Air Force F-16 aircraft, including 14 fighters Pakistan will acquire from Jordan.

The Block 30 program will probably be the last upgrade effort involving F-16s, a Turkish military source said. The F-16s will then gradually be phased out as Turkey expects deliveries under the Joint Strike Fighter Program, while at the same time is trying to build an indigenous fighter jet on its own.
