Post ejection injuries at Kargil medical category was downgraded and he flew An-32s. Thereafter joined Indigo Airlines. Abhinandan was very lucky not to have suffered any.

I had been looking for this photo ever since this thread was started. Thought it would be apt to share this memorable photo of the MiG-27ML from my Dad's Albums. My Dad (Army officer) & elder brothers along with squadron maintenance officer, posing in front of a MiG-27 ML of the Tigersharks at Hashimara in early 90's. Dad was posted as GLO at the airbase at that time. Today, he had whatsapped me a report of the Tigersharks being raised at Thanjavur and sent me this photo.

I read in few articles that time- all Mig-21 Bis were to be retired in Q1 2020 leaving just 100+ Bisons as sole Mig-21s in IAF...any news after that?

No. Wait for news of retirement ceremony to come out for MiG-21 bis Type 75

The last retirement was of MiG-21 M/MF Type 96 of 17/101 Squadron with ACM Dhanoa flying the last few sorties.

One of the first scale models I had built was the Flogger. It struck me then how slim the wings were! The video above reminded me of that. While they need to retire and go into the history books, part of me is sad to see them go. The MiG 21 through 29 were the heroes of my childhood! :)

Wonder if we could have put them in storage considering that there is shortage now.

Providing they have a technical life left in them.

The MiG-27 was also notoriously unreliable.

I hope we keep some of those GSH 6*30 cannons mount them on a Jeep or something and use them on LOC and the PA and non uniformed Jihadis get the pleasure of being downrange of it.

GSH-6-30 on a jeep? That thing had so much vibration and recoil that it used to cause fatigue cracks on the Mig-27. It even caused the canopy to accidentally jettison on one Mig-27 and the instrument panel to come loose another time plus a host of other problems. I don't even want to imagine what it will do to a jeep :D
