1. Covid (3rd highest no of cases and growing)
2. The economy which was in bad shape earlier, is now in serious danger
3. Anti CAA/NRC protests have united BIF's. Loss of several states have increased internal opposition.
4. Two cyclones
5. Locust invasion
6. Border tensions - LOC, Nepal and now LAC.

The only thing which I believe did not go to plan was the assumption that Kashmir will burn once spring starts and infiltration and stone pelting resume. In reality this has been our best summer in 30 odd years - in terms of ratio of terrorist : Security forces+civilian deaths.

if we can handle China despite all these challenges, I don't believe China will attempt it again, particularly, if they are made to pay a price this time.
Excellent points. India should take all of Pangong Tso Lake all the way to G219 and in the Galway valley, push the PLA east of the 1962 boundry.

Question for you:

1) Is there a list of areas lost under UPA?

2) Related to "salami slice". When Amit Shah and prior to him various Indian politicians have very loudly claimed Aksai Chin is Indian, why are Indian politicians reluctant to speak about Aksai Chin and prefers to localize the problem to Hot Spring, P Tso, Galwan Valley, etc? After all, at least these three are part of Aksai Chin. Why is it Indian politicians do not talk of taking parts of Aksai Chin?

Thx.

Yes, they built a road through a narrow river valley for a good 100 km from their major base just to intimidate us into stopping some construction on our own territory is plain crazy. I think we need to use force where necessary to push them back and tell them such shenanigans won't work anymore. So this change of RoE is a great step in the right direction. Our boys will be itching to teach them a lesson.

Deans ji, they seem to not have factored in a few more things :
- The level of determination that an openly nationalist govt with a strong mandate in both houses would show to defend the country
- Indian people's will to rally behind their leadership and fight, to not go backwards from 3 decades of sustained development
- The level of goodwill that India enjoys among world powers who will help her overtly or covertly against an unjust aggression by a totalitarian regime
- The global distancing and backlash China will face for being the unprovoked aggressor irrespective of their plan succeeding or not, forever tarnishing its image. Imagine the woke peoples of developed countries shunning Chinese goods...

The more I think about it, the more dumba$$ their "plan" reveals itself to be.

Therefore, I agree, they won't attempt it a second time.

RamanaGaru, please elaborate on the bolded part for my understanding.

Also, what is this BS Trump bahadur is blurting out saying he is talking to both India and China? Short of direct western military support to India, all talk of diplomatic support is useless gas IMO. I mean China is not TSP that they will pay any attention to diplomatic pressure.

Most certainly. It is not just their Western Command which is doing this. Their entire military is doing this with all their neighbours.

If the non-use of IAF in 1962 was a big blunder, this time my biggest doubt concerns the use of Surface to Surface missiles by us. I do hope that the GOI or armed forces do not hold back on missile strikes in the hope of quid pro quo from the chinkis & pakis, it would be a grave mistake. I seem to be getting the sense here that any missile strikes by us might result in hordes of H-6 bombers off loading cruise missiles against our cities. Be that as it may, the fact remains that immediate missile strikes will stop chinki & paki advances in vulnerable sectors where arty/CAS might not reach in time whereas bombing our cities will not help the chinkis or pakis except causing chilla-chilli by idiots on the idiot boxes. So I really hope we use our brahmos and other missiles liberally.

Another interesting article about what's going on in weibo. Apparently the Chinese are demanding to know how many of their soldiers died. Can anyone who is on weibo confirm if it's actually true?

Just India boycotting Chinese goods is not enough, we should turn the whole world's opinion against them.

In fact, GoI should be flooding Google, YT, FB, Twitter, Instagram, inApp ads, and every corner of the internet and target consumers the world over with ads using powerful gut wrenching images overlaid with simple messages like :

"Don't feed the troll - Stop buying Chinese"
"Cheap China Prices Cost Human Lives"
"Chinese goods are made from slave labour"
"Who hounds a joyful, pacifist monk into exile ? China"
"Answer this question to get a free Karbonn phone : Which country in the world has violent border disputes with every neighbour?"
"Answer this question to get a free Karbonn phone : Which country in the world has annexed over 80% of its land area?"
"China is raping Mother Earth - to feed your consumer frenzy" - "Consume responsibly - Stop buying Chinese"
"Are you against Islamophobia? Stand up for 10 million Uighur Muslims in Concentration camps"
"Auschwitz, Poland, 1945 - 1.1 million >>> Xinjiang, China, 2020 - 1.5 Million"
"Treblinka, Poland, 1943 - 0.9 million >>> Xinjiang, China, 2020 - 1.5 Million"
"You thought concentration camps were part of History? Wrong. They are part of Xinjiang, China"
"Every time you buy cheap Chinese stuff, the planet goes from Green to Red"
"I raise my voice against Communist Party of China - Because I care"
"Welcome to China. Please leave your privacy at the door"
"THIS AREA COUNTRY IS UNDER SURVEILLANCE 24x7. WELCOME TO CHINA"
"Congratulations! You just added 1.8 tonnes of CO2 by buying this Chinese toy at Walmart"
"Chinese toys - bring no joys"
"Don't drink and Prime. Stop buying cheap Chinese junk you don't need"

...
...

And let the fun begin.

I will add one more question to Ramana's list:

Why did WE have a reasonably big post looking at the mouth of Galwan river? And why the recent build up?

That is because, it is the only gap through which they can come in to choke our access to DBO. We knew the threat long term, and had a post opposite to the river, and had patrols going right upto LAC (PP14). We have videos of our patrols meeting the lizard patrols on the river bank.

What lizard did recently is to build up that thin line into a useable path for equipment, by digging up the river bed to restrict the channel, and by blasting some obstructions. They were able to bring the equipment right upto LAC, and are still working on making it a better road.

Supported by this trail, they thought they can set up a formidable post at the mouth of Galwan river, looking eyeball to eyeball at our post on the opposite side, making the Shyok the LAC.

But what about winter, rains and snow melt? Wouldn't the road wash away? I don't know! Maybe they will pour a $4itload of concrete

Bmos and shourya will be our answer to their cruise missile and srbms.

Their numbers will be a lot more but also face greater intercepts from ADs. Bmos + shourya will be very hard to intercept....

Anything beyond that and we're getting into strategic territory.

1. Corps commander level meeting at Chushul-Moldo meeting point. Very crucial meeting between top commanders of India and China after June 6. Aim is resolution of current situation along the #LAC. Breaking on @IndiaToday
& @aajtak (India insists China must move back beyond Finger 8)

2. China seeks lowering of tension without its troops moving back to pre May locations. India insists status quo ante should be restored. For peace & tranquility along #LAC China cannot unilaterally change the status of LAC and expect India to accept the change. on @IndiaToday

So the buggers will not withdraw troops, they are buying time in the form of negotiations

That would be a very bad idea. Chinis will lose more than just face. All it's superpower dreams will evaporate into thin air. It will start a domino effect and that would be very very bad for them.

It will be advantageous for us. Without Chinis, Pakis will crumble. Two of the biggest thorns eliminated.

Lastly, they are arrogant, racist, scheming ********. I fully expect them to start some kind of conflict with the same mindset like Pakis did in 1965. Expect Operation wolf warrior soon.

Guys just check Wikimapia ...

Zoom in to Karakora pass and follow the Chinese built NNE road from there for about 100 km. What do you people see?

Now from this point that we have traversed, ~ 100 km NNE of Karakoram pass, check 50 km east and west to understand the terrain.

Once the above is fully understood and digested, go back to the DBO and Depsang plains and imagine what would happen IFFFFFFFF the tanks stationed @ DBO were to cross the Karakoram pass, fully backed by the logistics moving over Darbuk–Shyok-DBO Road starting @ Leh.

Perhaps ... perhaps this is why the Darbuk–Shyok-DBO road becomes crucial and the necessity of the Chinese to sit at the top of Galwan valley / sit at Galwan/Syok junction to prevent any such scenario from unfolding in the future.

India deploys specialised mountain forces to check China’s LAC transgressions
The Modi government is very unhappy that the Chinese President Xi Jinping broke all the promises by not reining his favourite PLA western theatre commander Gen Zhao Zongqi, people aware of the development said.
India has deployed its specialised high altitude warfare forces along the 3,488 km Line of Actual Control (LAC) to repel any transgression by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in either western, middle or eastern sectors.

Top government sources confirmed that Indian Army has been directed to safeguard the LAC from any cross-border aggression by the PLA, which is showing hostile intent by amassing troops in a bid to cow down the Narendra Modi government.

It is understood that specialised forces trained over the past decades for fighting on the northern front have been pushed up to the frontier to impose military costs if the red flag goes up. Unlike the PLA which moves in infantry combat vehicles and paved metalled roads to move, the Indian mountain troops are trained in guerrilla warfare and fighting in high altitude as shown by them in Kargil War.

“The art of mountain fighting is the toughest as the cost of human casualties is 10 to each troop of the adversary sitting on a height. The troops from Uttarakhand, Ladakh, Gorkha, Arunachal and Sikkim have adapted to the rarefied heights over centuries and hence their capability of fighting is close quarter combats is without match. The artillery and the missiles have to have pin-pointed accuracy or else they miss the mountain target by miles,” said a former Indian Army chief.

The other thing that works for the army is that the Tibetan plateau is flat on the Chinese side while the Indian side starts from K2 peak in Karakoram, to Nanda Devi in Uttarakhand, to Kanchenjung in Sikkim and Namche Barwa across Arunachal Pradesh border. “In mountains, it is not only difficult to capture territory but more difficult to hold it,” a China expert with South Block said.

While India has noted with appreciation the voices coming out in its support from the Trump administration, including the President himself, the mood in Delhi is more like “atmanirbhar (self-reliant) Bharat” with no intent of asking anyone for military or diplomatic support. “I have my battalions lined up with armoured personnel carriers and artillery. India will not instigate or precipitate any skirmish but will reply to any transgression. The days of LAC nibbling are over. This is a battle of nerves and India is prepared to wait, come snow come sunshine,” said a senior minister.

The Modi government is very unhappy that the Chinese President Xi Jinping broke all the “peace and tranquility” promises by not reining his favourite PLA western theatre commander Gen Zhao Zongqi, who is insistent on imposing 1960 eastern Ladakh map based on exaggerated territorial claims on India. This map where China claims territory upto Kongka La was unveiled by then Chinese premier Chou En lai.

Incidentally, Chou En Lai, the premier during 1962 conflict, had close links with President Xi Jinping’s family and Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s wife is the daughter of secretary of the former premier. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar father K Subrahmanyam was involved in India’s war effort as an officer in the Defence Ministry.

It was only to set aside these historical baggage that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated the Wuhan and Chennai understandings so that the two leaders could promote the bilateral relations post-Doklam. It is quite evident that President Xi had no such plans and has used tensions in East Ladakh to divert global attention from failure of China to alert the world about coronavirus. In the same way, another paramount leader used the 1962 conflict to deflect attention from the famine, due to failure of Great Leap Forward movement, in which millions of Chinese died.

The Han Chinese believed they were superior to the primitive, barbarian, smelly northern mongol hordes before being attacked and overwhelmed by the mongols who until then were believed to be medieval, violent & disruptive by the mainland hans but then these very mongol hordes subjugated the Chinese and their yuan dynasty and subsequent ming & qing manchu vassals ruled over China and the urbane, southern Han citizens for hundreds of years years till 20th century british colonization

The Chinese kung fu movies aptly portray the mings, qings etc as the villains the han upstart hero underdog fights against and overcome with innovative kung fu. The manchus & mongols are usually shown with long hair braided behind and having moustaches. The Han hero is always clean shaven and depends upon his shaolin(ha) skills to overcome the physically powerful and better endowed northern Chinese/mongol.

So the Chinese are afraid that the Indians of all their neighbours have this ability to do a Kublai on them, and that will always be at the back of their heads. Make no mistake of this and this feeling is reinforced by 16 Bihar exploits. This fear will make them do drastic stuff.
Continuing from past into present, my feeling is after the brief violent exchange with the Indians, the Chinese will be reluctant to commit to any ground troops to any containment plan and turn to air dominance where they have a clear edge in terms of numbers and for that purpose it will be tempted to use pakistan as a tool. So that the air war and subsequent consequences will be born by pakistan which already has been roughed up enough by previous exchanges with India and will inadvertently become the battleground for the Indians and Chinese if they are not very careful.

Talks with China is meaningless, but it seems the Indians are forced by habit to talk. And keep on talking until the enemy builds up numbers.

India cannot depend on USA which is a devious, unreliable player in international arena. We depend on Israel for support and usually if Israel seeks help USA mostly complies.

The battle with China will show the effectiveness of the quad, if they are mere paper tigers or solid partners.

India can take on China by itself, no doubt about it in my mind. USA & quad can play a positive role if they inform pakistan that any hosting of chinese aircraft and providing bases to China will result in elimination strikes on those bases and elsewhere without any warning. If pakistan is still silly enough to be a host to a China-India war then who are we to complain. The two countries will not have much of a problem fighting their war in a third country thereby saving their land assets from being targeted.

What will the talks around ? Both countries claim they have not lost any land neither do they want to attack the other ? Strange !! Hadn't both countries talked and dis-engagement was agreed and maintain status-quo ?? So Chinese time-buying excercise in my opinion. Atleast we should have refused - which would have made Chinese sceptical that we have our own attack plans.

What if they don't need this road after this summer ?? Hint - once they salami slice the area around Depsang (and by some local accounts it is Leh) - they will not need to keep interdicting DSDBO and so they don't need to maintain the Galwan valley road. For us anyways going up the Galwan road will anyways not lead to any tactical vantage point.

This is where our geographic disadvantage handicaps us. For Chinese if they succeed in salami-slicing they win - if they fail in salami slicing they can still claim victory by stating that objective was to teach India a lesson. For India there is no piece of land within 100 kms of LAC on Chinese side which we can slice and it will lead to real loss (in terms of we controlling Chinese population or resources).

And even if we do - then the classic trap of given barely enough strategic lift of IAF - how will India maintain those positions?? On the other hand - no one can beat Chinese is sustaining any land that they can lay their hands on.
