2 rocket pods + 4 mistral AAM.
2*170kg+2*55kg= 450kg
MTOW=4750kg

I didn't see Mistrals in the video. I don't think we have bought any beyond what were acquired for the testing and integration. I haven't seen Rudras carrying them in service as well. I'm guessing they will be bought after the LCH order is signed. Still no clarity about Helina though.

Question for Helicopter Gurus and HAL Folks -
Why do we de-rate engines of our helicopters?
I understand HAL Cheetah has de-rated engines.
Seeing the HAL Brochure above, I see the LCH has slightly de-rated engines.
What are the benefits of using de-rated engines? Why not use peak power of the engines?

There was a very informative post by Hari Nair Sir which touched upon this. This issue came while there was discussion on gearboxes. Indranil and I think Jay were involved in that discussion.
We should make such discussions pinned to a IA Heptr FAQ

^ They match the power to the Transmission power/ torque.
The gearbox is the Achilles heel in helicopters.

Tsarkar sahab,
You meet the requirements first. After that you preserve life of the components for obvious reasons.
For example many AJT trainers (like Mako and Boeing's T-7) use the derated F404 engine for increased life and availability with lower maintenance and operational costs.

Sir, It seems the new exhaust setup was tested before on the TD-4 but we didn't notice it as a clear side view was not available.tsarkar wrote:The exhausts look modified upwards in the LSP

I think someone spotted it and we have discussed it. Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
The most important change has not been discussed here or anywhere else that I have seen. The glass on LCH is now bulletproof and these have now been tested at high altitude.
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
Upto which calibre ? 7.62?
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
I don't exactly know. Earlier the armor below the side glass was armored. Also the flat glass panels in the front were armored. Now, everything is.
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
(OT) While on the topic, it reminds me of 16 vs 24mm glass for Tejas FOC canopy for bird-hit protection. Guess that was also done.Indranil wrote:The most important change has not been discussed here or anywhere else that I have seen. Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
Thanks for the info, IR! Very happy to hear that crew protection has been improved with bullet proof glass. Low flying gunships are especially prone to being hit by small arms fire and I would've been ok with smaller glass panes if it had meant reducing the chances of a bullet shattering the glass and hitting a pilot.Indranil wrote:I don't exactly know. Since the powers-that-be, seem to be accelerating the testing/induction of armaments these past few weeks (maybe they're reading BRF), here's a plug:
1) Hope a big order for LCH is placed ASAP, cutting through the red tape
2) Rapid testing/induction of Helina mated with LCH/Rudra

So do we know where we are with Helina. How close are we to integrate it to a Helicopter for testing. The below article does not exactly tell about it.

I’m guessing everyone has seen the Tipnis grey LSP-1 LCH parked at aero India by now, which is for the IAF.
Anyone know why the IA/IAF are STILL yet to spec a self protection suite for it? I mean the least they could’ve done is put the same saab SPS from Rudra on it or is this still going to happen before they hand it over? Or because it’s IOC and a LSP only they won’t have such a basic system integrated?
LCH is designed by HAL to have a DIRCM but there isn’t even a RWR on this bird, very very perplexing.

Beautiful snaps of a fantastic weapons platform. Will it be possible for those at Aero India to get good clean side profile of LCH, the LSP version? I haven't come across high resolution image that's clean.

LCH in the Tipnis grey is a beauty. just put a deadly ATGM on the bird and it will give headaches to chinis.
