There are over 700 Hellfires.
As interim capability integrate them while DRDO completes their ATGM.
LCH has integral laser designator.

Aero India 2021 just keeps getting better and better. This was long overdue. Hopefully more orders will come in the future. This explains why HAL was delivering these 15 production examples to the IAF and IA, without a signed contract. It was coming anyway.Rakesh wrote: https://twitter.com/TheWolfpackIN/statu ... 20259?s=20 ---> Report: HAL to handover initial batch of LCH helicopters to military even before signing of formal contract.
https://twitter.com/strategic_front/sta ... 53764?s=20 ---> For now the MoD has approved the procurement of an initial batch of 15 LCHs (10 for IAF & 5 for IA). The numbers are expected to go up soon after deliveries begin. The IA & IAF will receive a LCH each by March, even before formal orders have been placed.

Great news in LCH.
Only don't understand why one month delay. Must be some dotting 'i' s and crossing 't's by Babus

^^ Very nice - crisp talk by SMPP.
1) Delivered 1 Lakh bullet proof jackets to the IA - 6 months ahead of time!
2) Lightest armor in the world, to protect LCH and LUH. Can withstand 7.62 mm steel-core & 12.7 mm armor-penetrating ammo
3) Helmet that can withstand AK-47 steel-core rounds - have patents for the same
4) Venturing into large caliber ammunition shortly

Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
Hopefully 2 things will happen:
1) Order for 165 LCH will be placed, instead of the 15. There is nothing more to prove in that helicopter. And we are desperately short of attack helicopters since, lets see ............... Kargil!
2) Helinas will be ordered for the 70 Rudras (560 missiles) + 165 LCH (1320 missiles) - assuming 8 missiles per heli. Ok maybe not that many, but at least a decent % of this number
The good news is that the DAC has cleared 13 Namicas & 293 Nags. So, I am hoping Helina orders will follow shortly.

As far as I remember is 170 kg for dual launcher along with missiles. It has a cooling bottle for seeker cooling. For quad launcher you can double it.Thakur_B wrote:How much does the launcher weigh (dual and quad)?
Can carry 12 Helinas if external Payload is increased to 1020 kg.
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
Why do we need LCH in IAF? Arent such helicopters mainly for the Army? Why are Apaches with the IAF?
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
Anything that flies Air force???
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
That is dumb - Indian forces are too big to keep anything that flies in IAF. Then why Rudra for IA? I guess IAF wanted the shiny USA toy for itself
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
The Apaches in the Gulf War 1 were used to take used Iraqi forward warning Radars, any such role required in the IAF?
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020

Indeed, the IAF grey suits the LCH..would've loved the Apache style olive green on the electro optical pod, which I find pretty nice looking.
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
Indeed! If you judged this beauty by looks alone (F & F), it could easily have been made in France, US or Japan.bharathp wrote:looks very TFTA.

The LCH is a world-class winner. No doubt about it.What however needs to be done is to find for it a suitable ATGM or ATGMs from desi, east and west to suit the market. For AAMs we have many choices. French,Israeli and one is sure that a desi SR AAM can be developed given the success of Astra.
It should also be v.competitive in price. While our reqs. need to be met first and fast, exports could be military grants from the GOI.In fact the LCH and BMos could be leased to the Phillippines,Vietnam, etc. arranged through leasing ,"wet leased" if need be with our "instructors" as the USSR did in Egypt in the '70s .
It will put both our weapon systems and "boots" on the ground in key geo-strategic locations especially in the Indo-China Sea region.

HELINA/Dhruvastra successfully completed joint IA & IAF user trials on ALH Rudra around 19-Feb-2021. It is ready for induction.
One can be pretty sure LCH will be integrated next and highly likely will be ready within the next 3-years.

^ Not sure why its 3 years?
LCH + Helina are both ready today. What's missing are orders.
We saw a repeat order from the MoD for 4000+ Milan ATGMs a few days ago. Where is the corresponding order for LCH, Helina, Nag or Namica?

HELINA/Dhruvastra is ready on ALH Rudra. There are already for dozens of ALH Rudras in service with the IA/IAF. Let the IA/IAF/MoD/GoI place the order and sign the contract for equipping Rudras first. Haven’t heard movement on that front yet.
One would think the IA/IAF/MoD/GoI would place orders for thousands given that it will arm hundreds of Rudras and in the near future LCHs and LUH. Instead, we may only see a token order. It will be a long drawn out affair.

Just say will integrate the Hellfires from stock as initial capability and see how fast they will agree to the Helina/Dhruvastra orders.
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
I think there are a total of 16 Rudra's (ALH Mk IV) with the military. Present helicopters are equipped partially but there are plans for more inductions specially in the IAF. I am not aware of the status. Induction of LCH and Mk IVs will need the Helina/ Dhruvastra inducted in numbers. Just because trials are over, the orders won't come immediately.srai wrote:^^^

This kind of expectation is incorrect.
The procurement process is designed by non military and controlled by non military. A basic level understanding after many years on BRF will help. The Finance Ministry will have to allocate money and budgets for such procurement have to be dovetailed into plans. Most importantly, each stage of the procurement will have to be completed else hawks who hate services will cry corruption. The earliest procurement will be possible in the coming FY but that is being optimistic.
Re: Light Combat Helicopter: News & Discussion: 10 August 2020
Say it and still nothing will happen. The process is the key. Not wishes.ramana wrote:srai wrote:^^^
