I guess there are 21 of them in Sulur, that is 66% of the fleet in air.
Shows the good availability levels maintained.

Yeah they take Saraswathi/Ayudha pooja (worship of books, instruments, tools, weapons) seriously in this part of the country and as a conclusion one has to exercise them (like read a page from the book, play the instrument, use the tool, not sure about the weapon but an elephant walk would be a fitting exercise).
But I am not sure why IAF needs to thank DRDO and HAL at this stage. They should be so reliable & available that IAF should be able to carry out this exercise on its own.

IAF is thanking for the product support. Any design issue/software issue would have to be resolved by ADA, which spare parts issue by HAL.
It is good to see IAF acknowledging that fact product support is good. This is more important than the fighter itself.
Otherwise we will end up like Arjun , which had to sit in one place as the battery to start the tank was not available!

Argentine Air Force had received offers for new fighters from Russia and China, but was also awaiting proposals from the US and India.
Isaac told Infodefensa that Argentina had an engagement with India, "which is wanting to offer us the Tejas, but we are just in the first talks"
Obviously the ejection seat, radome, a2a reueling systems would be subject to UK sanctions and would need alternatives.

It was discussed on this forum a while ago that IOC and even some FOC fighters all have innards that are slightly different to each other due to a series of improvements to incorporate pilots' and ground crews' feedback and things learned maintaining them. Its these fighters that might be requiring more HW & SW support from HAL staff for which they are being thanked I think.
Latest FOC fighters must be identical cookie cutter serial copies and will need a lot less of HAL support for regular operations.

Availability 80% next only to Rafale?
https://twitter.com/themave7/status/144 ... 25635?s=20 ---> Tejas availability is well above 80% - At par with Rafale & Su30MKI. In terms of weapon delivery : It is the best aircraft in IAF after Rafale. (As per Air Marshal R. Nambiar).

Great achievement - I am encouraged by this statement in the link.
Those questioning the Tejas's capabilities need to note. It is extremely heartening to note the progress of the aircraft to being considered "next" to IAF's shiny new toy! All the more reason to continue to build additional MK1s till the MK1A becomes available.Barath wrote:Availability 80% next only to Rafale?

I'm more curious about 80% availability for mki. At 80% availability, the MKI alone, not even counting the deployment against China, can wipe out the PAF.Tejas availibility is well above 80% - At par with Rafale & Su30MKI
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
Leave the MKI for China. Build additional MK1s and 1As to take on and destroy Pak.
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
That is thanks to Manohar Parrikar. It was at 55% and he got it up to 70%. I am overjoyed, it has gone to above 80%YashG wrote:I'm more curious about 80% availability for mki. At even 70% mki, would be superb.
To put that into perspective....
55% of 272 Su-30MKIs = ~150 birds available at any given time
70% of 272 Su-30MKIs = 190 birds available at any given time (a little over two extra squadrons worth)
80% of 272 Su-30MKIs = ~218 birds available at any given time (so nearly four extra squadrons worth)
For a squadron strapped IAF, fleet availability is worth its weight in gold.
When the Super Sukhoi upgrade is completed + combined with a 80% fleet availability....

Post that we have never heard any concrete numbers. The 80% above, the tweet author alluded to GaganShakti. But there are no published or even derieved analysis sources. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
Every 5% rise in MKI Availability will equal ~ a squadrun for MKI.

There is no other aircraft on order except for the MK1A at the moment. Can someone post MK1A timelines?
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
Deal was signed in Feb 2021 and the first batch (two aircraft) is due no later than 03 Feb 2024. The IAF has appointed a team - to work with HAL - to ensure timely delivery. Once the production is underway, it is expected that it will reach 16 aircraft per year. The last batch is due in 2029. A statistical average (six years from 2024 to 2029), looks at a production rate of 13+ aircraft per year.

https://twitter.com/TheWolfpackIN/statu ... 88933?s=20 ---> Delay in integrating AESA radar with FA-50 may cost S. Korea the Malaysian fighter jet tender, with India's HAL Tejas having an edge: Korean media.
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
13 aircraft per year may look small compared to our needs but not so small compared to the Rafale production statistic (source Wikipedia) - ". As of 2012, the fabrication process of each fighter took 24 months, with an annual production rate of eleven aircraft". This is circa 2012 so could be outdated. Certainly though HAL needs to look at exports aggressively and raise its production capacity.
So from completion of MK1 deliveries (SP31, Actual SP 27 was ready to fly last week). So within 2022, MK1 single seat production run will be complete and will get started on 2-seater. So for 2 years (2023-2024) there will be no new fighter aircraft inducted into IAF.

Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
May not be as simple as aesa alone. Per Janes, Malaysia was looking for 8 trainers and 10 light attack aircraft in this RFP to replace Hawk 108, Hawk 208 and Aermacchi MB-339CM trainers.Rakesh wrote: https://twitter.com/TheWolfpackIN/statu ... 88933?s=20 ---> Delay in integrating AESA radar with FA-50 may cost S. Obviously, Korea, Italy and China may be ahead on LIFT compared to Tejas LIFT/SPORT while Turkey (hasn't even flown the Hurjet) and Mig 35 are behind. And there could be different priorities than just most powerful fighter. This LIFT requirement may also contribute to proposal of JL-10 and not the JF-17.
Korea has indicated in past that they could integrate an AESA, but will be behind Tejas if so. If Tejas is proposed with Uttam instead of Elta (Malaysia may not like Israeli equipment, plus other advantages) maybe the timeline gap may narrow slightly (?)
This link suggests that China may go aggressive with ToT /MRO , Russia may go heavy with local partner and MRO via that partner, HAL will likely propose MRO and Korea has involved a local partner in their bid
Malaysia has indicated that of the ~4 billion RM = ~1$ billion, half the payment will be in form Palm Oil/derivatives. So no edge there for HAL/India. Of course, politically, Malaysia has had issues with China. And HAL and IAF has had some relations with Malaysia ..
A different link
I'm wondering about the 30% of parts produced in Malaysia.. 30% offset seems more standard and might fit in with MRO offer. Possibly a bit garbled ? I doubt that it would be very easy to set up 30% parts production in MalaysiaAccording to The Edge's source, requirements for the aircraft include aerial refueling, beyond-visual-range (BVR) combat and supersonic flight capabilities, as well as containing at least 30% of parts produced in Malaysia. The manufacturer will also start deliveries within 36 months after the contract is signed.
These requirements exclude the L-39NH, which is not supersonic. It seems that all the other aircraft meet the requirements, or at least can be modified to do so.

Just going through the above article once again... Production schedule as per the article is as follows:-Barath wrote:https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-ne ... 4-amp.html
First Flight March 2022, CEMILAC certification mid 2023, then production. 2 aircraft by 2024 , 8 2025 and batches till 2029 of 14-16/year thereafter
2024:- 2 jets
2025:- 8 jets
2026:- 14-16 jets
2027:- 14-16 jets
2028:- 14-16 jets
2029:- 14-16 jets
If we assume 16 jets per year for the four years from 2026, the total comes out to be 74 jets, not 83 jets...
So my guess is they're talking about only the 73 Mk1A jets here...
Going by the schedule, the 10 Mk1 trainers of the Mk1A tender will have to come out first... Most likely, they'll produce all 18 Mk1 Trainers continously in the current 2 lines before the production shifts to Single seat Mk1A jets from 2025 onwards...
While the new 3rd line will start producing Mk1A jets from 2024-25 onwards...

Vinod, I moved your post above into this thread. I am waiting for this excellent series by Anantha to be completed. I will then compile it all into one post and put it in the new Tejas threads. I am going to create two new threads; 1) Tejas Mk1 and 2) Tejas Mk1A. The latter will outgrow the former - both in numbers and scope - and deserves its own thread.
