Agree, 2 more Rafale squadrons, and spend the rest of the money on accelerating the Su-30 upgrade with domestic avionics including the 12 more planned for purchase, accelerating the Tejas MWF, upgrading the 40 Mk1A to quasi Mk1A and buying more AWACS, IFR, EW plus munitions.A Deshmukh wrote:if the 21 Mig-29 go thru, then there is one squadron less justification for MMRCA.

The US ANG PIDSU and EW core pylon configuration is the most advanced variant as both left- and right-hand pylons are equipped with three chaff/flare dispenser magazines. This was made possible by introducing a new compact variant of the Terma Digital Sequencer Switch which allows installation of the additional dispenser magazine. Once implemented all the existing and new ANG Terma-pylons will feature flare dispense and EW core pylons will even have all hardware for smart dispense of e.g. Expendable Active Decoys and multi-shot flares.

“The IAF will have around 37-38 fighter squadrons in a decade”, said Deputy IAF Chief Air Marshal Sandeep Singh. It is further expected that indigenous products will become a standard choice for the IAF as it would be very difficult for IAF under current monetary situations to order 200 units of any imported asset against 200 units of Tejas MK-2 because of the feasibility and efficiency of indigenous products.

Will begin to deliver S-400 missile system to India by 2021 end, says Russian company Almaz Antey
By Sahil Pandey
Moscow [Russia], August 24 (ANI):
The deputy CEO of the air and space defense concern Almaz-Antey, Vyacheslav Dzirkaln on Monday said Russia will begin to deliver surface-to-air missile defence system (SAM) S-400 by end of the year 2021.
"I can confirm that we will deliver [the S-400 system to India] by the end of 2021 in accordance with the schedule and contractual obligations of the Russian side," Dzirkaln said while interacting at International Military-Technical Forum "ARMY-2021".
He also said that at the present Indian military personnel training is underway in operating the S-400.
"As for the training, the first group of Indian specialists have completed the training. The second group is undergoing training. I would not talk about the number of people but it is a sufficient number for the Indian armed forces to effectively operate our equipment. I would like to say that the results shown by the first group of Indian specialists after the training were very high. I would like to note the [high] level of training of Indian specialists," the deputy CEO said.
In October 2018, India had signed a USD 5.43 billion deal with Russia for five S-400 regiments. (ANI)

Re: Indian Air Force News & Discussion - 23 March 2021
or this
Garuds are already equipped and this requirement 1.5 lakh rifles for just the base security seems a bit high for Air Force.
Is IAF considering creating its own Airborne formation like this one in China? Then you see this RFI by the Navy to acquire landing platform docks (~200m length) and can't help but wonder, are we looking at some kind of US Marines type Integrated Battle Groups in 5-6 years? Capable of landing troops at Karachi as well as South China sea or maybe in Africa!
Re: Indian Air Force News & Discussion - 23 March 2021
Actual requirement is of 1.5 lakh rifles just for air force.
Even if each base as 2-3 companies worth of troops, this number is very high for base security. Total number of troops in the force is 1.4 lakh or so. What will they do with 1.5 lakh assault rifles, or even 70 thousand for that matter?

India and US sign Project Agreement for Air-Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS) --
The Ministry of Defence of India and U.S. Department of Defense concluded a Project Agreement (PA) for Air-Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (ALUAV) under the Joint Working Group Air Systems in the Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI), on Friday, July 30, 2021. The Air-Launched UAV PA falls under the Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDT&E) Memorandum of Agreement between the Indian Ministry of Defence and the U.S. Department of Defense that was first signed in January 2006, and renewed in January 2015. The agreement is a significant step towards deepening the defense technology collaboration between the two nations, through co-development of defence equipment.
The main aim of the DTTI is to bring sustained leadership focus to promote collaborative technology exchange, and create opportunities for co-production and co-development of future technologies for Indian and U.S. military forces. Under the DTTI, Joint Working Groups on land, naval, air, and aircraft carrier technologies have been established to focus on mutually agreed projects in respective domains. The PA for co-development of ALUAV has been overseen by the Joint Working Group on Air Systems and is a major accomplishment for DTTI.
The PA outlines the collaboration between Air Force Research Laboratory, Indian Air Force, and Defence Research and Development Organization towards design, development, demonstration, testing, and evaluation of systems to co-develop an ALUAV Prototype. The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Aerospace Systems Directorate at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), along with the Indian and US Air Forces, are the principal organisations for execution of the PA.
The agreement was signed by the co-chairs of the Joint Working Group Air Systems under the DTTI, Air Vice Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Plans, from the Indian Air Force and Brigadier General Brian R. Bruckbauer, Director, Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate, from the U.S. Air Force.

Does anyone know what happened to the I-Star program which was to get a business jet, modified with a synthetic aperture radar, capable of very high resolution at very long ranges, along with an EOI sensor of phenomenal ranges for surveillance role in a benign environment and for long durations ? This was announced in 2018. Most of the DTTI projects have never seen the light.

M2K upgrades are the most secretive ones i have seen - many years since signing and not even a single picture of an upgraded one!!!
Re: Indian Air Force News & Discussion - 23 March 2021
There are several pictures of upgraded M2k's floating around. The aircraft don't look any different from the outside except for a light grey nose cone instead of the earlier black. And I believe a few got the light grey noses even pre-upgrade so it is not easy to tell them apart.V_Raman wrote:M2K upgrades are the most secretive ones i have seen - many years since signing and not even a single picture of an upgraded one!!!
This one is back from 2015
The MICA-IR it is carrying under the wing is a giveaway. The M2k's did not have the MICA integrated prior to the upgrade.

Admiral sir, I would normally agree. But I clearly see some kind of bump hanging below the frame. Doesn't seem like mlg or is it? and is aligned with twin tails. Lights? Looks like pylons without rails.

There seems to be something hanging under the wings between the innermost HP and the fuselage. Looks somewhat like an open landing gear door but that can't be it. Not sure what it is. Definitely not a HP though.Rakesh wrote:Sirjee, I am seeing 3 hardpoints under each wing...for a total of six.
