I've done a detailed analysis with maps of the same here. Do have a look:

Thanks Rohit, good analysis. The new alignment makes a lot of sense.
Incidentally on GE you can see the road being constructed near the Ke La pass.

The indomitable Subedar Major

Lt-Gen Raj Kadyan

In a battalion, the Subedar Major occupies a pivotal position. Having risen to the highest rank in his line, he commands respect from all and is the main adviser to the commanding officer (CO). His role is all encompassing and he keeps a “feel” of the battalion’s pulse. A CO depends heavily on the Subedar Major for advice, particularly in matters concerning discipline, welfare and morale.

On commissioning, I joined a battalion that was being raised in the Delhi Cantonment. Men were pooled from other existing battalions. As no one sends his good soldiers, we had a motley crowd, many with record of indiscipline. Absence without leave was a common problem. Harphool Ram was our Subedar Major. He was a tall, towering man with typical disfigured ears of a wrestler. Reportedly, some JCOs who over drank and became unruly in the JCOs Mess, were physically boxed by him, though not a word of it ever came out till after he had retired. I found Harphool a compassionate, fatherly figure, and an excellent guide.

Being young, I would take my company for a long run in the morning PT period. It didn’t find favour with the JCOs, who were all in their forties. On their complaint, the Subedar Major spoke to me one day. Not being polished in his language, he made his point with his trademark bluntness. “The Sardar Sahibs (JCOs)”, he said, “have difficulty in passing urine because of the physical strain your morning run causes them”. It was his sincere and crude simplicity that persuaded me to ease up.

There is something funny about this "farmer's agitation".

they have stopped an IA convoy in punjab.

#Indianarmies war exercise convoy was stopped by the so called protesters in Punjab .

This comes at a time when we are facing #Chinese agression.

It's time to invoke essential services maintenance act and put an end to this drama.

@HMOIndia Should act.

Agitating farmers block @adgpi convoy. One SOB protestor has the temerity to say we're verifying whether it's our army or has come from Pakistan. What a crying shame.
When is enough enough?
These "farmers" are saying we need to check whether these army personnel are Indians or Pakis. Yet not a single word of condemnation by people who butthurt when I call them traitors and/or morons.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) in its meeting held under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for Capital Acquisitions proposals for modernization and operational needs of the Indian Armed Forces amounting to approximately Rs 13,165 cr," read the official ministry statement.

Furthermore, of the total amount approved, procurement worth Rs 11,486 crore (87 percent) will be from domestic sources.

Key approvals include helicopters, guided munition and rocket ammunition.

Looking into the need of the Indian Army for an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Squadron to improve its integral lift capability to ensure its operational preparedness, the DAC accorded approval of procurement of 25 LH Mark III helicopters from HAL under Buy Indian-IDDMA at an approximate cost of Rs 3,850 crore in keeping with the continued thrust towards 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self Reliant India) and 'Make in India

I agree with you, jamwal ji

these agitators are anti nationals and traitors paid and supported by the ISI, khalistani and BIF forces.

I think that the govt may be waiting to get the UP elections out of the way

I also note that fundamental rights of free movement, livelihood and to freely associate without let or hindrance are being trampled upon by these "farmers" and two pillars of our glorious democracy have all but turned their faces away and refused to do their duty while actively hamstringing another pillar of democracy from doing its duty

our culture has always been duty based whereas we are rapidly drifting towards the commie ideal of a rights based unproductive and entitled society that was instigated by that unelected clown neverwho who pushed this britshit laid landmine to undercut our society

Watched the strat news global interview. The Indian army is quite confident that it can handle the situation. Which is nice to know.

But one thing that struck me was the supposed usefulness of Chinook helicopter. Along with the M777.

If the war with PRC is going to be fought in multiple sectors and IA is thinking of using the Chinook as a big fast truck.

I am concerned that a fleet of just 12 machines is just not going to be enough. Has the army asked IAF to seek more Chinooks.

The issue with just few of these games changing hardware is that if PLA decides to focus on these and hung them down, we dont have any capability to replenish these and restore the edge. If these Chinooks are ones that are stalling PLA advance or victory, PLA will not mind loosing even 20-30 of their front line fighters to destroy these machines. They can rebuild later but we will loose our war.

one single well placed stinger like launch is all it takes.

there are plenty (many many thousands) of these culinary institute supplied delicacies in the hands of the paki ISI and the jehadis. This doesn't include captured russki maal that came as a windfall.

It will not take much for the hans to get the paki jehadis to deploy in the ladakh region as well.

after the russkis departed afghanistan, the amerikis tried their best to buy them all back but failed because the pakis cleverly maneuvered to keep them off the market. All they got back at high cost were damaged and dysfunctional units, cannibalized of all usable spares

now, with the hans in the game, many more cheeni supplied delicacies are also in the same hands

it is by an unwritten agreement that these items are not used on the Indo paki border or cashmere.

If the cheeni use these in their tactics, it will go very badly for them too as the IA will not hold back.

In an emergency, more chinooks can always be leased for a duration from the amerikis.

In case of war, many gelf nation fighters will fly against us, as they have done before. They will arrive in pakiland via the "good offices" of some third country.

its like मुंह में हिंदुस्तान बगल में छुरी, game that the ummah has always played with India

many of the pakis pilots are operational on the aircraft of all such "donor" countries.

While we do need a lot more copters and air transport capability, the PLA has a huge disadvantage.
Their helipads (and all airfields) in Tibet are at altitudes of 4500 m and above. At that altitude, a helicopter or transport aircraft can use only a
fraction of its capacity. Even that capacity reduces at higher temperatures and handling becomes sluggish. Our own aircraft and choppers take off
from far lower altitudes, where there is a higher take-off weight.

does anyone know the exact penalty because of height?
I think Hari Nair sir said about tank engine performance that every 1000 ft or so some 3% loss is encountered. So at 15,000 feet, the engine output is less by 30%.
For aircraft, the loss has to be more, less engine thrust and less lift due to lesser air (and also less drag). In hot and high condition (not in Oct-Nov, the most likely time of clash), it should be worse. Do we know any thumb rule?

http://www.aviationchief.com/rule-of-thumbs.html

Available engine horsepower decreases 3% for each 1000’ of altitude above sea level.
Fixed Pitch, Non turbo aircraft - Climb performance decreases 8% for each 1000’ DA above sea level.
Variable Pitch, Non turbo aircraft – Climb performance decreases 7% for each 1000’ DA above sea level.

Army rejigs tasking of forces along LAC

extracts
A brigade of the Western Command, which was tasked along the LAC, and an important “strike division” have been made part of the area of responsibility of the Central Command.
Sources said the eastern flank of Himachal Pradesh, which was under an independent infantry brigade of the Western Command headquartered at Chandimandir, would now be part of the Central Command headquartered at Lucknow. A “strike division” of the Western Command headquartered at Dehradun would be part of the Central Command. An independent brigade has around 6,000 troops, while the numbers in a division can vary between 12,000 and 15,000.

The Western Command and its three Corps — 2 Strike Corps at Ambala, 11 Corps at Jalandhar and 9 Corps at Yol (near Palampur in Himachal Pradesh) — will only look westwards. Now the LAC, barring eastern Ladakh, which is under the Northern Command, will be the responsibility of the Central Command in Himachal and Uttarakhand.

Step to make Army more 'modern' by creating Integrated Battle Groups soon
excerpted
The plan to have IBGs in the 17th corps-- sometimes called the Mountain strike corps and the 9th corps-- a crucial one in the Jammu-Pathankot area is ready.

IBGs, as opposed to divisions under the corps and brigades under the divisions, it was felt, makes decision making easier. Apart from the smaller "decision-making loop," according to a senior officer, it cuts off one level of headquarters staff. Instead of division and brigade HQ, there's just the IBG.

Each corps will have 5-7 IBGs, each headed by a major general with a brigadier as chief operations officer. Each IBG will have 4-6 infantry battalions, an armoured regiment and mechanised infantry reconnaissance and support battalion (if applicable), plus logistical support units like field hospitals, Army Service Corps, Ordnance and Electrical and Mechanical Engineer outfits. There will be artillery FSGs or Fire Support Groups alongside the IBGs.

This is the second time within a space of a month that an army officer traveling with kin has suffered fatalities to self/kin. I personally feel that this trend needs to be stopped quickly. Armed forces is a dangerous profession where one spouse is already under constant threat to life and limb. In such a case, is there any need to expose the other spouse to danger as well?! A fatherless family is hard enough, why cause a fatherless and motherless family also?! Please share your thoughts...

PS: me and my family have tagged along with my Dad to many a trip to Wagah border, Golden temple during the most inopportune times...in hindsight, maybe we shouldn't have.
