Has the parliamentary committee ever held a session (open/closed door) with any Chief regarding its preparedness?
Even an Academically challenged politician could ask the questions like
  1. When are you going to get to your sanctioned strength?
  2. Why not the desi fighter?
  3. What are the roadblocks?
Do the parliamentarians realize that a local equipment creates job in their constituency which leads them to reelection?
In India focus of both the MP and voters is towards getting sarkari naukri.

No one gives a damm about getting a private job. The focus of everyone is to extract maximum malai from private businesses.

So no one will be caring about pvt job from a manufacturing private company.

Indian politics unfortunately does not work that way still. There are other ways for politicians to get re elected and get more money as well. They have very less incentive to think this way nor are they educated enough to think this way. Unfortunate but true.

The whole job generation engine is driven cetrnally by very few people in central/state govts. Most of the elected reps don’t care.

No Saar for me please :)

Everyone has answered beautifully to your question. I really have nothing much to add.

The questions you have raised is not something any MP in Parliament thinks about.

What I have never understood is you have two options one is to hope and pray for best resources to be given to you before you start work or make best of resources at your disposal and produce results. Armed forces have these 2 options, wait for best foreign maal that suits their war doctrine, wait for endless babu giri, lack of funds, swindling by vendors..... or pick the local maal and work with it and enhance it. Years ago when NLCA debate was going on I had the same question for Navy. I am not doubting their assessment that NLCA in its current avatar is not suited for carrier ops. That is fine but you have an entire naval aviation pilots at mercy of 30 odd Mig 29K with what 30% availability rates? maybe we have more planes and better rates but still do your pilots get enough flight hours off these birds to be better prepared? can they do war games and play out scenarios between themselves as much as they would like? Why not order few LCA and use them from shore based facilities? LCA stationed at Jamnagar or Dwarka base can easily protect western ships from any threat coming from Karachi same is true with LCA placed in Andamans they can choke up Malacca. Think of ways you can use desi assets in creative ways. Pilots get to put hours in sky rather than wait for their turns.

No news for us. The MK1A is being shrouded in secrecy suddenly because of some additional features demanded by IAF and accepted by ADA. Nothing can be revealed but if the changes are successful the MK1A can time travel, travel at warp speed, cloak itself completely and fly from Delhi to DEtroit on half a tank of fuel...

The solution has been found. Each of the wheels is 33% of the 50 kg and so one wheel will be taken from each of the landing gears!!!

I doubt any new demands have been made by the operator. Just shows how hard the task was - always felt that the system was underestimating the complexity in implementing multiple changes where each change was relatively simple but the whole is far more than the sum of the components.

Anyways - they have a few days - hope it happens in June.

Production should begin 18-24 months after the first flight - will take another 12-18 months to get a squadron inducted. First squadron in 2026-2027. The MMRCA is now a necessity.

^^ Excellent. Basically Indranil and Nilesh's DDR article in video form. Makes it a lot more accessible to most people. If anyone knows how to contact the DDR team though, please let them know the audio quality needs a lot of improvement. The quality of the content and the quality of the audio are at two opposite extremes at the moment. The narrator needs to slow down while talking and enunciate the words loudly and clearly. Not sure if he was in such a hurry because there was a limit put on the length of the video. But I really don't see what the problem would be in making it longer. This is important information they are putting out. Need to make sure people really understand it.

All 32 Tejas MK1 single-seaters have been produced by HAL and at least 25 (16 IOC standard + 9 FOC standard) have already entered service with the Air Force. So, that is where things stand as on date.

Any indication on the date of the first flight of the last FOC aircraft (SP-36)?

Is it yet to occur or has it already happened? I can update the first page.

that is one good slow read. One of the comments at the bottom criticises for high level of detail and asks the author to simplify.
Fair enough but the devil is in the detail, I cannot believe that we can become better unless we understand all nuisances.

Must read for all BRAVES who are Tejas Watchers here !!

Captive Flight Test. See here for Astra on Sukhois.
Captive flight trials involve the Su-30MKI carrying under its wings at one of its six hard points (stations designated for the carrying of stores) an inert missile (with no explosives but simulating the real missile) which has not been electrically or electronically ‘connected’ to the aircraft’s on-board systems.

Captive or aero mechanical integrity tests allows a verification of aspects such as the mechanical, structural and electrical compatibility between the missile and the aircraft, and whether vibrations, strain, stress, etc. are within design levels.

Only after the missile is proven in captive flight trials can it be fired from an aircraft.

Disclosing news of Phase 1 of the captive flight trails which have come after about four years of planning and certification, senior officials said the trials would cover the entire flight envelope of the Su-30MKI, including attaining the fighter’s altitude ceiling of 18 km and a speed of 1.8 Mach, and undertaking the various complicated manoeuvres that the aircraft is designed for. The trials are likely to involve around 15 sorties.

Updated Page 1 of this thread with the two articles below.

Also updated (in red) the first flight of SP-36. I just don't have the date of the first flight. But as per HAL Chairman, R Madhavan, all 32 single seat Tejas Mk1s have completed production. So the first flight of SP-36 should already be complete. If anyone has a date and the pilot who flew it, I will update Page 1. Thank You in Advance.

This will mk LCA Mk1A integration faster. You will hv more testing hours on plenty of MK1s. This is a good idea - more robust ASPJ.

To summarize we have produced so far:
IOC , FOC - 32
LSP - 8
PV - 6
TD - 2
Are the LSP aircrafts upgraded to FOC/Mk1A standards and can they enter squadron service?

I would not give LSP to IAF. In any case the build standards are different and will be a maintenance nightmare, plus they may not be fully upgradable to the latest standard (because of different builds). I would rather keep them with ADA/HAL and use it for testing new technologies. We will need to test new systems till tejas mk2 (another 10 years). These 8 LSPs will be handy till then. I won't be surprised if a version of Kaveri is tested on that. If you give this to IAF, you have to then ask them to reallocate few back to HAL/ADA for testing, that bureaucracy can take forever. In fact HAL wanted to own 2-3 SU30MKI itself for that purpose. They are at the right place.

LSPs are always held and operated by the HAL staff and from posts from Kartik, Saurav Jha I believe they are being used as flying test beds for UTTAM and other Mk1A tech but deliberately not spoken about.

**You Tube Edited Out**
Genius move...

Instead of using up the airframe & spares and compromising the security of our imported platforms, better to use our indigenous platforms. Also, these scrambles and shadow boxing against the Chinese fighters will be almost like actual combat, will be invaluable to the LCA pilots & designers.
