As India celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav marking 75 years of India’s Independence, Doordarshan’s coverage of Republic day this year is not just mega in scale but also unique in features as special arrangements have been made in association with Indian Air Force to showcase new elements of fly-past along with live coverage of different formations of large fleet of planes which are 75 in number to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence.

The figures of 59 Cameras and 160+ personnel deployed for the coverage of Republic day celebrations this year don’t even begin to scratch the surface of the colossal arrangements made by Doordarshan on the entire stretch from Rashtrapati Bhawan to National War memorial at India Gate through Rajpath.

Preparations began as early as from November 2021 to ensure 360 degree impeccable coverage of all aspects of every event on Republic Day. DD has deployed 59 cameras all along Rajpath, right from Rashtrapati Bhawan dome to National Stadium dome. 33 cameras are installed at Rajpath, 16 cameras at National War Memorial, India Gate, National Stadium and 10 cameras at Rashtrapati Bhawan.



To give people bird’s eye view of entire celebrations, two 360 degree cameras have been installed, one at Rajpath and the other on the top of India Gate. Visuals from both 360 degree cameras will be continuously live-streamed through two separate streams on DD National YouTube channel.

To capture every minute movement of marching contingents and fly-past, DD has deployed 5 Jimmy Jibs, combination of 100X and 86XTally lenses, more than 15 wide angle lenses, Abacus lens, etc. One camera is installed on a 120 feet Hydraulic Crane in between National War Memorial and India Gate to provide breath-taking shots of the decorated Rajpath. Special remotely controlled PTZ cameras have been installed in Presidential Enclosure and on Rajpath.

In what makes it an integrated coverage, all major spots have been connected through dark fibre optical connectivity, Satellite connectivity and Backpack connectivity. To ensure impactful coverage from the ground, DD has built a makeshift Production Control Room at Rajpath.

The High Definition visuals will be made more engaging through animated graphics and renowned commentators, who will be elaborating upon every detail as the event unfolds. To ensure inclusive coverage, DD News will broadcast the commentary also through sign language interpretation.

Republic Day live coverage will be broadcast on all channels of Doordarshan across the country, starting from 9:15 AM on January 26 till the end of events at Rajpath. Live coverage will also be available on DD National, DD News YouTube channels and on NewsOnAir App and Website.

Republic Day: President approves 384 Gallantry awards for Armed Forces personnel; Neeraj Chopra honoured with PVSM By AIR News

The President has approved awards of 384 Gallantry and other Defence decorations to Armed Forces personnel and others on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebrations. These include 12 Shaurya Chakras including, 29 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, 4 Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, 53 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, 13 Yudh Seva Medals, 3 Bar to Vishisht Seva Medals, 122 Vishisht Seva Medals, 3 Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry). Besides, 81 Sena Medals (Gallantry), 2 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry), 40 Sena Medals for Devotion to Duty, Eight Nao Sena Medals and 14 Vayu Sena Medals have been approved Devotion to Duty. Out of the total 12 Shaurya Chakra Awardees, 9 of them have been awarded posthumously. They include Subedar Sreejith M of 17th Battalion of the Madras Regiment, Havildar Anil Kumar Tomar, Rajput Regiment, the 44th Batallion The Rashtriya Rifles and Havildar Pinku Kumar, the Jat Regiment, 34th Battalion the Rashtriya Rifles.

Olympian Neeraj Chopra who is a Subedar in the Indian Army has been honoured with Param Vishisht Seva Medal on the eve of Republic Day. Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal for India in the javelin throw event at Tokyo Olympics.

Padma Award 2022: General Bipin Rawat, Kalyan Singh honoured with Padma Vibhushan; Neeraj Chopra gets Padma Shri - AIR News

On the eve of Republic Day, Government today announced Padma Awards. Former Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh and former President of Gita Press Radheshyam Khemka will be honoured with Padma Vibhushan posthumously. Classical Vocalist Prabha Atre will get the second-highest civilian award.

17 persons will get Padma Bhushan. Krishna and Suchitra Ella of Bharat Biotech who brought Covaxin and Cyrus Poonawala of Serum Institute who brought Covishield will get Padma Bhushan. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, former CAG Rajiv Mehrishi, Paralympic Medalist Devendra Jhajharia, Odia Author Pratibha Ray will get Padma Bhushan. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai will get Padma Bhushan.

107 persons will get Padma Shri. They include Tokyo Olympics Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra, Tokyo Paralympics gold Medalist Pramod Bhagat, Sumit Antil and Avani Lekhara, Singer Sonu Nigam, and Lavni Singer Sulochana Chavan.

Q: Looking at the images of the war memorial, all the names are inscribed in English. Can't the courtesy be extended to indian languages? The name of the fallen soldier could have been inscribed in three languages, the mother tongue, Hindi and English if required. Your name inscribed in your mother tongue is a tribute to your origins and to the diversity of India.
