America "losing" a war is irrelevant unless it is about American territory. America didn't exactly win in Korea, retreated in Vietnam, left a smouldering mess in Iraq, exited Afghanistan not once but twice. There are unfinished wars all over the world, so why does America continue to do this? Many reasons. It has a war hardened military, it allows for domestic political compulsions and funding of military tech, it continues to bring in countries either voluntarily or coerced into geo-political & military alliances. It's still the king of the hill.

One would hope that Europe had better sense to tell Zelinski to put up and cut a deal with Russia, not only because of the short-term implications including access to energy, but overall for the long-term good of the Caucasian race. Is there an existential threat to Europe from Russia? I don't see it. Russia is already on a path of demographic implosion and can hardly extend beyond its own core interests, which is ex-USSR minus the Baltics.

Europe is a colony of the US. Europe by itself has no power/authority. The halo behind the European head is because of a light that the US is holding.

It is because EU leaders in the past that had some authority (Merkel), who made deals with Russia, that these Streams got blown when the window opened.

Well what can I say, they need to grow a pair. They have large economies and advanced technologies. If we can tell unkil to mind his business why can't Germany or France? (UK is unkil's poodle) Why can't Greece, Portugal or Spain "sit it out" claiming that they are poor and can't afford such games? What happened to the pacifist Scandinavians, especially Finland which forever sat between the two worlds and retained its independence?

Speaking of Merkel, an interesting story. A friend of mine is from E Germany, he was there during the collapse of the Wall, even went over to West Berlin had a beer and returned home to the East on day 1. He said Merkel's father was a clergyman and despite the avowed atheist nature of the Communists, the family had its privileges. One such privilege was a college education. My friend is a smart guy but he wasn't allowed to go to college instead had to make do with trade school. Mrs Merkel was from the privileged class and could pursue her degree in nuclear engineering due to connections.

Why I recall this is because Merkel clearly had a much better understanding of dealing with Russia and the ex-soviet system given her background.

For everything, there is a time and place.

Telling any nation to mind its business is relative. If you are claiming India is telling the US, why is China at the northern border for eons? As an example, why can India not manage China the way you claim India is managing the US? (More on this in the Indo-US thread in a day or so.)

Besides, there are gadhars within Europe. They gladly dance to the US tune.

However, I fully agree with you that Europe needs to stand up for itself.

"Core interests" is what we are talking about. Our core interest is to make sure our people are fed and have the ability to go about their lives without struggle because of a war overseas; and to secure that we will make pragmatic decisions to secure our oil supplies.

Can't specific countries in Europe stand up for their "core interests", specifically access to energy and restricting military spending only per treaty obligations?

Then send Modi to Europe and install Papu in India. And, then see what happens.

Seriously, who defines Europe's "core interest"? Both Biden (himself) AND Nuland are on video record saying Nord Stream will not happen. And, Norway, Belgium, and Sweden in some shape or form participated in destroying the pipes. Merkel and the French Prez at that time stated in interviews that the Minsk accords were to buy time for Ukraine to arm. Boris Johnson visits Kyiv to squash ongoing talks with Russia in Turkey.

.................................................

European leaders have worked against their own people. For about a decade now. And, it seems, to me, they did not even bother to compute simple risks - what IF their plans did not work?

I think it was supposed to originally be done on 24 Feb 23 on 1 year anniversary, but changed since they felt Bakhmut can change hands, but how he get to Kyiv, by rail from Poland. Airforce 1 cannot fly or land in contested Ukrainian airspace . But by going in this warzone for this PR stunt there must have been some agreement with the Russians. I.agine a Russian missile taking out POTUS, we will have WW3 on us.

Yes, American military communicated with Russian counterparts for the visit. Didn't stop Z & B from activating air raid sirens for the sake of ambience. Wish Russians hacked in and slipped a few "This is not a drill"s for a giga troll making the presidential pair sprint in wet sagging diapers :rotfl:

If you look at Europe, UK is forever a lapdog. Germany with US bases is a defacto colony despite economic heft. All others are either too weak or host US bases.
The EU parliament is just a privileged gaggle of shunted up 2nd rate politicos that squabbles.

EC and France remain. A German aristocrat Von der lying was put on EC and in France an investment banker whose weath declarations are obviously false (that's the dossier of undeclared wealth that US has on him) was groomed and propulsed into politics and presidency with a media blitz not unlike what propulsed Zelinsky.

The whole of Europe is ruled by snooty elitists who care little for their people or their countries future but are first in line to save the world from Putin on the planet from CO2. They act all powerful but are infact puppets, and they know it. We can now add Sunak to the list.

The Baltics are fundamentally weak, transient, and bereft of historical raison d'etre. Utterly rootless, they become the most sycophantic war party of whomever they feel to be the strongman of the day - Bolshevik, Nazi, NATO, doesn’t matter. They just want to feel powerful. https://twitter.com/witte_sergei/status ... 85250?s=20

Good boy Sergey Mardan, CNN 20th Feb: https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/20/europe/r ... index.html
“Biden in [Kyiv]. Demonstrative humiliation of Russia,” Russian journalist Sergey Mardan wrote in a snarky response on his Telegram channel. “Tales of miraculous hypersonics may be left for children. Just like spells about the holy war we are waging with the entire West.”
Bad boy Sergey Mardan, Kyiv Post 23rd Jan: https://www.kyivpost.com/post/11219
Russian propagandist Sergei Mardan made no attempt to hide his pleasure at the deadly Russian attack on a residential building in Dnipro at the weekend, saying such strikes will continue until "the full enlightenment of Ukrainian brains."
Someone pls remind CNN that they just projected a journalist who is claimed to be a propagandist for the Russian government.

A senior White House aide confirmed that the United States notified Russia ahead of President Joe Biden's "risky" surprise visit to Ukraine on Monday to avoid any miscalculation that could have brought the two nuclear-armed nations into direct conflict

US supports Ukraine’s attacks on military objects in Crimea — Nuland
WASHINGTON, February 17. /TASS/. The US supports Ukraine’s attacks on military facilities in Crimea, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said on Thursday.

"Those are legitimate targets. Ukraine is hitting them and we are supporting that," she said about Russia’s military facilities in Crimea.

"Ukraine is not going to be safe unless Crimea is at a minimum militarized," Nuland said at the Washington-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, adding that this is "part of ensuring that there is a sustainable deterrent [of Russia]."

And so is the rest of Europe. Their demographic forces are even worse than in Russia where it is barely holding at bay. And US is not even better. It is estimated that even with increased immigration, US population will come to a standstill by 2040-2050 and decline from there as the rest of the world including the developing world TFR decline catches up to the developed world's average TFR. Not only that the demographics of US is undergoing a vast change right now. No longer does the views of white Anglo Saxon Protestant hold sway over the US. It is the Latinos that will hold the sway and pretty soon US will start focusing its attention on Central & South America and shift its attention away from Europe as Europe slowly loses its ranking of relevance and cede ground to other countries such as China & India. Even though China's population is aging quite quickly, it is already more of a powerhouse than Europe.

A very long speech, by Putin. Posting just a very few quotes (did consider posting the entire speech). The break between the West and Russia is complete.

A must-read for the serious.

February 21, 2023

Presidential Address to Federal Assembly
This Presidential Address comes, as we all know, at a difficult, watershed period for our country. This is a time of radical, irreversible change in the entire world, of crucial historical events that will determine the future of our country and our people, a time when every one of us bears a colossal responsibility.
This appalling method of deception has been tried and tested many times before. They behaved just as shamelessly and duplicitously when destroying Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, and Syria. They will never be able to wash off this shame. The concepts of honour, trust, and decency are not for them.
Over the long centuries of colonialism, diktat and hegemony, they got used to being allowed everything, got used to spitting on the whole world. It turned out that they treat people living in their own countries with the same disdain, like a master. After all, they cynically deceived them too, tricked them with tall stories about the search for peace, about adherence to the UN Security Council resolutions on Donbass. Indeed, the Western elites have become a symbol of total, unprincipled lies.

Apparently Russian MoD issued a statement that UKR is hatching a plot to attack Transnistria and grab the huge Russian arms dump there.

That would be the reason why Putin issued executive order canceling decree guaranteeing Moldova's sovereignty.
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/pu ... 023-02-22/

Re the large ammo dump being referenced -- it is this one in Transnistria and contains up to 20,000 tons of Soviet area weapons.

According to one of the Western sources -- there's clearly hint about interest in this ammo dump. Russian sources seem to be suggesting that Ukraine wants access so it can overcome shortages.

I thought that ammo dump was non usable. The quality and condition of the ammo has, supposedly, degraded over time, such that it would be unfit and very unsafe to fire those ammos.

Supposedly so.

No one has inspected it since 2006.

Marta Kya Nahin karta?

Very risky ops. What if the dump is booby trapped??
