XR-SAM.is short range SAM.
I think XR-SAM is a (extra) long range SAM that's why i am asking this question. Maybe the two missiles may have a lot in common but different seekers

Brahmos: India's Brahmastra by Atul Rane, CEO & MD Brahmos Aerospace

What I found most interesting is the fact that we have tested Brahmos 106 times (if I heard it right) according to Mr. Atul.

As per a Defence AV, the per unit cost of the Hypersonic Brahmos will be at least twice that of the supersonic version in service.

Alfa Defence is reporting that the development trials of SANT are completed and the missile is in LSP production.
But I am not able to find any main stream media source of the news.

Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
alpha defence must have seen some tender document that is asking for supply of some sub component assembly. When alpha defense says LSP, its a very loaded statement.
it can mean any of these
1. Some limited production run for user trials or some other kind of trials
2. Some pre production trial production for getting manufacturing supply chain aligned
3. Actual LSP where forces are using the product
If you’re looking for 3, Im not sure that is what this means

Some major live firing test by IN in mid / south Arabian Sea.
Can we see some long range missiles swerving off to "somewhere" northwards. It was a misfiring and we say sorry !!!

https://twitter.com/AdithyaKM_/status/1 ... 78547?s=20 ---> While India looks towards ordering 370+ Pralay SRBMs: The first two tests of Pralay conducted by DRDO on Dec 22 & 23, 2021 relied purely on INS+GNSS & struck < 5 meters from the target at ranges of over 350 km. A variant will also feature a W band MMW seeker, offering enhanced capabilities.

As per reports, USA built HIMARS rockets and JDAM bombs become useless in Ukraine war because of intense anti GPS jamming by Russia. Then how Pralay, Brahmos,SAAW, other glide bombs of India going to work against Chinese and Pak high value targets ? For missile seekers to work, they should be very near the target. One exception is Tomahawk missile, which use ground mapping to reach targets.Rakesh wrote: https://twitter.com/AdithyaKM_/status/1 ... Instead of US GPS if they us our GAGAN system can they still be jammed ?Hriday wrote:As per reports, USA built HIMARS rockets and JDAM bombs become useless in Ukraine war because of intense anti GPS jamming by Russia. Does Brahmos use GPS guidance ?
Can we have INS system to avoid US GPS ?
Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
Any device using EM spectrum can be jammed. The way around it is to use INS.
Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
You have to use combination of terrain mapping and INS to beat GPS jamming. We should create our route to target with information fused from all three sources. But in case GPS fail we should be able to construct route based on other two.

A cruise missile like Tomahawk can use optical terrain mapping because it is flying low. Reportedly using strobe lights on night flying.
So far I hadn't read about any provisions for optics for land navigation on any Indian missiles other than Nirbhay variants. Also is it feasible for optics based terrain navigation on high altitude flying missiles considering the height, cloud cover and darkness at night ?
A Twitter user @GODOFPARADOXES who often provides great open source intelligence on Indian missiles once showed the close up image of Agni Prime missile revealing possibly some laser seekers. He proposed that Agni Prime's phenomenal accuracy for its anti shipping role is based on this laser scanners. Since it comes from very high altitude likely will not be affected by GPS jamming.
@GODOFPARADOXES post only quality info and doesn't clutter his time line with random military stuffs. So worth following for an Indian missile enthusiast.

Great achievement - in the last few seconds of the video, we can see that the target (Banshee I suppose) is not more than 10-20m from sea level. And supersonic.
Regular MRSAM vs Brahmos knock-downs will make both missiles more lethal

The missile is capable of striking targets with a very high degree of precision. The training launch successfully validated all operational & technical parameters of the missile.

Indian Army has asked for third generation missiles for BMP upgrade.
The missiles have to have a range of 5000 meters and make in India. This has to be lighter and smaller than NAG.
They want to procure minimum 1750 missiles per year along with 175 launchers.
Looking at the desired parameters of the missiles. This RFI seems tailor made for the SPIKE LR.

I don't think it's only IIR based , because none have such technologies . NAG only ATGM that have a proven IIR tech with 4 km range capable of operating in Indian summer desert conditions.Pratyush wrote:Indian Army has asked for third generation missiles for BMP upgrade.

In desert terrain, the have specified a maximum operating temperature of 45 C.
Draw what conclusions that you want to draw.
There are possible indigenous option available for this RFI.
1) an upgraded DRDO - CLGM fitted with fire and forget seeker. It fits the range and size criteria.
2) a longer ranged version of the TONBO-BDL man portable ATGM. But we don't know what is the detection range of the seeker for the system.

If true , then FOB based guidence and IIR at terminal range is the only option , spike NT-G / Gill have these features . Need to see the weight class of the missile , specified .Pratyush wrote:In desert terrain, the have specified a maximum operating temperature of 45 C.

No parallel indigenous program with specs mentioned in the RFI. LOBL and LOAL with datalink based midcourse guidence with two independent lunchers on the BMP and 4 spare ATGM stowing capability. Current BMP2 with Konkurs will be replaced with this.Pratyush wrote:http://mod.gov.in/news

LOAL can be truly called fire and forget if it can be "handed over " immediately to another ambush team away from the luncher. But here Gunner and commander are both in thick of guiding the missile after launch. LOBL is fire and forget as the intial target image is passed on to the missile and lunched to the target . commander/ gunner can prepare for next set of targets and repeat the process .
A BMP2 with spike
An ICV with ATGM
