The mockup was made by Tata Elxsi or Tata someone - I have a photo of that will post after watermarking.

I spoke to the HAL people there.

The LCH is a completely different animal from the Combat ALH that we saw in mock-up form in AI 2005.

.
Shiv - i am not sure if people are confused betweeen WSI Dhruv & LCH or the LCH mockup now & the LCH mockup of AI03.

just to add to Shiv's post -- the WSI Dhruv & LCH will carry same armaments in the IA role.. obviously the IN version will carry depth charges & torps.

What sets LCH apart is the tandem arrangement where the backseater is the WSO (like the Su30) while the pilot concentrates solely on manuering -- very much required bcoz LCH is supposed to be a true attack helo operating in highly hostile environment.

Whereas WSI Dhruv is just an armed helo whose primary role will be to drop troops or an armed helo ground support duties.

Significant differences in LCH will be it high manueveribility, tree top height flights, very good armor protection (which WSI Dhruv lacks) and ofcourse, stealth.

On a sidenote, ARMY AVIATION

they have a stall in HallD.. they dont have a great display or dont give out any brochures/freebies - so it is less visited. But there are AA pilots lounging around -- it is worthwhile to chat them up., are quite friednly I spent 15-20mins with a Major & Lt.Col (test pilot) and it was nice listening to them.

they like ALH immensely -- vast improvement from from other Helos in the inventory. One of them said they already have a few glass-cockpit Dhruv's (someone please confirm if HAL has delivered any already) and it is a dream navigating in it using the moving map display. They have 20 spread over two sqds (though usual sqd strength is 15/sqn) and are gearing up for 200.

Mi25/35 upgrade has packed quite a punch.. "they are in a different league" in the test-pilots words. NVG has made a huge difference it seems -- they are exploiting it a lot in practice missions... And the stabilisation of the images acquired from El-op turret improved drastically..

The LCH is anything but "light"! It resembles considerably current attack helos. One cannot understand the huge size of the rear fuselage, quite disproportionate to the cockpit for the pilots, unless there has been an error in the scale of the mock-up! I pointed this out to Shiv, the huge size of the cockpit, meant for 6+ footers.

The two Russian attack helos shown at the very first air show, the Black Shark and Alligator KA-50/52,in my opinion have been the two most awesome helos displayed at any air show here. They really meant business from the massive armament carried and the armoured cockpits for the crew. They also had ejector seats for the pilots,if I remember correctly, with explosive bolts to detach the rotors before the ejection seats fired.Ejection seats fro the crew of attack helos is absolutely neccessary given the huge risks they take operating in a very hostile ground environment.Just look at recent Us casualties in Iraq,5 helos shot down and huge loss of life. The reports that India has given Russia a brief to design a new attack helo is reassuring guess that the LCH,LAH,etc. will be built in smaller qtys. for different scenarios. The recent Cobra deliveries to pak is a wake-up call for the Indian Army, which must possess several hundred attack helos, heavy or light for the battlefield, apart from others needed for liaison and recce duties.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wuy4b_9g0kc

anyone russian?
They didnt say something new or even interesting about MiG-33 in that program of Zvezda Defence Channel. It is about the visit of the Russian DM in an Ru-Army unit near Moscow and the meeting with the soldier's relatives (first part) and his visit to Lukhovitsy MiG's manufacture in January 9. The pictures about it were already been here soon . You can see the MiG-29OVT display, MiG-35 on static and MiG-29K\KuB production line.

Apropos, I have composed some guide, how to download U-Tube video and save it. May be it could help for something here for saving a traffic:
1) For Opera browser users after looking video by standart way, please search for the cached video files in the follow folder: C:\Program Files\Opera\profile\cache4
It can be with .flv or .tmp extention. The big volume of the file and the arranging ichons by their date can help you to recognise, what you look for. For example, the video file about MiG-35 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wuy4b_9g0kc ) has the name opr075AT.tmp and weight 10 597 kb.
2) Change the extension of the file to .flv if it's still has .tmp
3) Open with any .flv file player program, like RivaFLVPlayer ( downloading link RIVAurl
4) You can also play .flv media with any standart video-player after instalation of K-lite codec pack ( http://www.k-litecodecpack.com )
5) You can also convert your downloaded .flv file to any other video format with Total Video Converter http://www.effectmatrix.com/total-video ... /index.htm
6) If you cant allow for youself purchase the Total Video Converter, you can still crack it, althouth I strongly recomend dont do it, if in your country it's prohibited by law. Anyway I give you bro the link to an excelllent site that will help to desperados: www.astalavista.com
7) If you are still disgusted from Opera, I can only recomend using another link for downloading video from U-Tube: http://kej.tw/flvretriever, or search the folders, where other i-browsers keep their cached Internet stuff.

Enjoy!

This gizmo is a sight that puts an invisible red laser dot on a target. The best part is that if the soldier does not want to raise his rifle, all he needs to do is hold it at hip level (or wherever), press a button (on the cord) to light up a visible red
why should it be invisible??

Unless you shoot - shining a visible red laser dot all over will give you away.

You can see a red dot on a target only through the scope/sight and that sight is mounted on the rifle. But for that the entire rifle (and sight) have to be raised to eye level firing position.

If, for example a soldier is holding his rifle at the hip and looking around he may see something that needs shooting at quickly - and the act of raising the rifle may take too much time.

For that reason all he has to do is to have a finger ready on the button on the cord. That produces a visible laser dot that can be pointed at the target from hip level. The naked eye visible laser dot is designed to illuminate exactly the same spot on the target as the invisible dot that can be seen only through the sight.

This thing gives an entirely new meaning to "shootin' from the hip"

On page 2 of the pics. above, there's one that says 'Shiv Aroor visits BR'. Was that actually so? If so, was there any free and frank 'exchange of views' on his recent coverage of DRDO?

So no photoboards for us to dig into but:

See this:

Exhibit A: OFB 125mm rounds.

http://media.bharat-rakshak.com/aero/ma ... temId=2989

http://media.bharat-rakshak.com/aero/ma ... temId=2992

Exhibit B:

Round on the left:
http://www.drdo.org/products/fsapds.htm
http://ofbindia.gov.in/products/data/am ... /lc/26.htm

So the question is, which is the round on the right? Is it this:

From Business standard, 2006 about HAPP, Trichy
According to Bhasin, the factory, after inheriting a special technology from Israel military industries, has been engaged in the production of the third generation anti-tank projectiles, Finns Stabilised Armour Piercing Discarding Sabots, which could penetrate 125 mn to 300 mm thick armours of the enemy tanks and make them de-mobilised.
But the new OFB round is identical to the WITU round from Poland.

Images:
http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/3852/t ... nds9ju.jpg
http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/359/ ... sds2jj.jpg

But then we see the OFB website, yet another hitherto unknown 125mm APFSDS round!

http://ofbindia.gov.in/products/data/am ... /lc/37.htm

And then the most interesting part, we go back to Polish APFSDS manufacturers

http://www.zps.com.pl/

Check under "Oferta" and special products (words similar to the same) & the 1st link, and you'll see both the OFB linked round, and the new round displayed at AI-2007. Small image, here.

Image

An IMI link is yet possible-IMI is stated to have supplied the penetrators for the "Pronit" APFSDS as well, to Poland, but this new round (as displayed in AI-2007 by OFB) was previously believed to be developed in Poland alone.

Fun, fun, fun.

And to add to the fun, DRDOs 125mm Mk2 APFSDS has also cleared user trials.

I used the standard Canon 90-300 mm lens. Requires a steady hand. Used the auto and ISO800-1/2500.

About the LCH... I came across this.. dont know if it has already been discussed.. but the LCH looks hell of a lot like the Russian KAZAN Ansat Ansat-2RC Armed Recon Helo.

Image

Better pics of it here.
http://www.richard-seaman.com/Aircraft/ ... index.html

Also Ironically. the 2RC Version of the ANSAT is derived From Transport Helo.. Like the LCH is derived from the ALH Program..

Here is a Pic of the Transport ANSAT.

Image

Looks hell of alot like our beloved Dhruv doesnt it?

interesting.. Do we see a Russian hand in our helo projects or am i getting ahead of myself.
