Something i have not noticed in the others among the SU 27s or the IAF SU30 MKIs
Please pour your gyan
Afterburners kicking-in/shutting-off sequentially and not simultaneously. Here is a pic showing that the throttle stick in the SU-27 is segregated/independent for both engines. So this might just be a case of pilot touch being slightly off given the fact that he's turning and burning like a bat out of hell.

Could the two engine throttles being different be also a part of "manual" thrust-vectoring control?

It is a compulsory thing to have i.e. if you have n engines you will have n throttle sticks. All twin engined jets have a pair next to each other you can move them independently or together by holding them with one hand . Tu-142 has 4 .

I think TVC controls are mated to the stick and pedals.

Given the fact that they are segregated by design - absolutely! This independent thrust control could also be caused by FBW system trying to maintain the aircraft within certain flight parameters given the intended orientation of the flight maneuver.

Here is a YouTube video in 720p that clearly displays an Su-27 pilot making minor corrections to the throttle stick independently while participating in a flight demo.

The AL-31 exhausts look blue even when the afterburners are on. In fact, if the afterburner is not on, you should not see any flame at all. The pic might have been captured just after the AB's were going on (and the right one is kicking in late and is not upto full efficiency yet) or maybe there is something that is causing incomplete combustion in the right engine AB.

I think it was in the split second when the right Afterburner was coming on, as the pilot was a few fraction seconds in using the Left and right throttle.

To get a clear photo of Jet aircraft, I imagine the exposure time of the Photo would have been something like 1/2000 of a sec.

Actually this has been discussed quite a lot. Flames can be seen even when the AB is not on at higher power settings - typically seen only on photos with telephoto lenses in flying demos because no one can stand behind such an exhaust and watch.

Here is an old post of mine from the FAQ thread:
shiv wrote:We had a discussion earlier whether one can or cannot see flame in a non afterburning jet exhaust. I know you can if you look directly from behind, especially at higher power settings. but videos are few and far between because no one can actually stand behind one to video it. But such videos do exist, and you can see flame in the exhaust of a non afterburning jet pipe. But you need to get directly behind and look inside.

pyogi-saar, you seem to get such iconic frames with ridiculous ease! I still remember that swooping down LCA that you shot for 2011 Aero India (sadly, I could not find it in your site). HAL/ADE/IAF should come out with a "Pyogi's calendar" every year!!!

Shiv Saar,
You picked my favorite amongst this lot as well! But I have to disagree on one count though. I don't think it is menacing at all. It is almost playful. It looks like it is flying just because it can! What perfect proportions! Is it really man made? It can't be...

Can't disagree there - but that wisp of vapor looks like a gun blazing. Unfortunately I already have two fantastic desktops - one courtesy pyogi and anoher by Abhishek Singh and I don't know what to do with this one other than say ooooh

OT but thought it relevant.

This is one absolutely amazing remote controlled [RC] model airplane.
Not only did they build its jet engines, but included a retractable landing gear.
They built it into a fully scaled model of the SR-71 "Blackbird" that flies just like the real McCoy.
This SR-71 model was built by an Engineer / RC enthusiast in Germany and is certainly one awesome toy.
And the landing is amazing, too.

Vishal,
Pyogi had taken a similar shot almost exactly at the same time and same angle. I love Rudra and the SDRE pilots inside!
The beast appears a little skewed/inclined. You may want to edit the photo and align the blade to the borders and republish it. Looks awesome!

In this picture, both the pilots are clearly visible (as opposed to the previous one). One pilot seems to have some sort of a green shade to his glasses, on the right side. If anyone has any pix of ALH in digital camo, please to post.
