Is the LSTAR and the AEW-radar same? Derived from each other? They both seem to be functionally & size wise similar.

Cy yes it is. LSTAR is none other than the ground demo unit of the AEW&C radar.

Karan,

That makes sense. Impressive. 300 Km tracking for 2 m^2 target is pretty good and ofcourse the search range will be probably much higher.

Perhaps for future naval use as well to replace the LW-08. I know price tag for foreign 3D long range search radar like SMART-L was way too high.

^^ Watching the inaugural show for the VIPs on TV.

Is it me or did the Rafale team choose "Nothing else matters"as the theme for the display deliberately? The lyrics of the song seemed eerily directed towards the IAF! :)

Great performance by LCA, MKI and Sarang team, but Rafale was a bit sharper especially on the turns. Perhaps its wing-tips really helps there. Anil Ambani behind Modi ji was irritating to watch otherwise a splendid show specially delivered for Modi.

what does that mean? why pull lower Gs than what the envelope limits allow when you want to impress the most powerful man in India?

May be the PM's safety, in case something doesnt go right. But just his personal opinion, not worthy of a comment

Saw the demo on Monday (albeit from outside Yelehanka AFS @ a weird angle). Tejas display seemed lethargic...same 'g' levels as previous air shows. I just didn't post it before as I thought the change of POV could have deceived me. Rafale's performance was the best.

May be Tejas team will open it up further in coming days?

This guy Vishnu Som seems to be quite a character..he was reporting to his channel from Bengaluru that Parrikar's media conference was a washout and instead of questions on aero india all were asking about paki terror boat and CG officer's statement that CG blew it off..In fact parrikar did not allow them to ask questions on this issue till the very end and took the question on this as the last one. All the time he was taking questions on matters of military and aero india.

11 sec to top of loop from take off is new. Slow flyby AoA seems higher so probably slower. Stupid DD cameras are tuned only to show faces - not top of loop. Incompetent bums for an airshow. I have consistently done better - but they have better cameras.

Russia, India to Discuss Su-30MKI Fighter Modernization
ASIA & PACIFIC
16.02.2015)

Russia and India will discuss the modernization of Russian-designed Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighters.

India Interested in Russia's Glonass Satellite Navigation System
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia and India will discuss the modernization of Russian-designed Sukhoi Su-30MKI (Flanker-H) fighters, including equipping them with BrahMos cruise missiles, Russian aircraft corporation Irkut said on Monday.
The talks are to take place at the upcoming Aero India 2015 defense and civil aviation expo, to be held February 18-22 in Bangalore.

"Research institutions and industrial facilities in India will participate in the program to modernize the Su-30MKI, which will significantly increase the combat capabilities of the aircraft," an Irkut spokesperson told reporters.

Russia's Sukhoi Su-30MKI super-maneuverable fighter jet is a variant of the Su-30MK developed for the Indian Air Force. The first test of the Russian-Indian supersonic BrahMos cruise missile is due to take place in March 2015.

Russia and US Go Toe-To-Toe for India’s Nuclear Industry
The spokesperson added that designers are currently working on integrating BrahMos cruise missiles into the Su-30MKI, which will "improve the combat capabilities of this unique complex."

According to the spokesperson, a major success for India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) manufacturer was to succeed, with the help of Irkut's specialists, in the overhaul of the Su-30MKI fighters. Currently, HAL is the only corporation in the world that carries out such complex manufacturing operations.

India's Air Force has a fleet of over 200 Su-30 MKIs, built HAL under Irkut's license. The first Su-30MKI overhauled in Russia was transferred to India in January.

Folks any please ask the Akash guys if it can take out a toss bomb.

I know it can take out a para barrel sized target.
I know it can take out high speed targets.
But can it take out a toss bomb?
Reason is that's only credible threat from Fizzleya.
