Even in MkII version the Navy version is most beautiful of the two

I have a feeling that AI-21 probably won't be in BLR.

Any details on actual capabilities? Great news. Now if we could have the Kaveri mated LCA flight - ultimate jingo dream!!Will they use one of the PVs for the Kaveri?

We will have to see some infoboard to extrapolate or if Jay or some visitor to the AI event met the LRDE guys for the range etc.
Original was 150km (very respectable figure) but then loads of confusion based two years back with some people "hearing" 115km etc.
Kaveri anyhow is going to be a TD, and likely fly on a PV or one of the LSPs. I am sorry, but doesn't look it will be entering service on the LCA anytime soon.

actually, now both MWF and Navy Mk2s are equally easy on my eye. I always a fan of Mirage 2000 because every line on that plane is art. Pick up any part of the plane. Every join is a smooth curve. Frankly, I am not a big fan of Rafale’s looks. I know, I know that is sacrilege to many of you. But, it looks too cute to be a fighter to me 8). Any how, the MWF has reached Mirage 2000 kind of refinement, except for the trailing edge wing body join. No artistry there.

On the LCA Navy Mk2, I don’t like the MLG fairing. Again, Looks like an engineering solution, not art.

IR - I will not be unhappy at all if the Rafale does not make it in Indian service. Tejas is the defacto MMRCA - been saying that for years. India's corruption is going to actually now help Indian industry - look at artillery developments (20 year old TOT leading to Dhanush), Arjun's coming back from their graves, and IAF's (initial) reluctant order for 124 LCAs. In arty since every supplier was blacklisted, domestic production/Govt to Govt purchases (M777) was the only way out. I think the T90s abject failure to complete the Tank biathlon may have tarnished its image and Reliance's participation with OFB provided the "indian grease" to overcome DGMO's baseless objections to the Arjun. Now the IAF's long drawn out procurement systems means that it would take 10 years to finalize and then 3 years for deliveries to start. Pappu will not let additional Rafale purchases so Tejas has a headstart.

HAL should capitalize on the situation and quickly complete the current order then approach IAF for additional quick deliveries for fleet enhancements. Tejas is the ONLY way to build IAF numbers - CHEAPLY!!! Jingo Khush hua!!!!!!!

LCA MK2 was to have sensor fusion.. takes away the USP of the Rafale. Now with payload + range enhancement, its in the same ballpark for our tactical requirements, it can supplant the Rafale for many missions.

I don't know if the size is compatible for fitting aboard our light and med. birds, but the radar on the MIG-35 is reported to have a 200km range. I too remember Uttam somewhere around 150km+.Any idea what the RBE2- AA radar on the Rafale is in the region of? We should attempt some standardisation of radars for say LCA, Jags, etc.

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has provided details of its man-portable anti-tank guided missile (MPATGM) during the 20–24 February Aero India 2019 exhibition in Bangalore.

“The missile is in development and guided flight tests are scheduled by mid-2019,” a Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) official told Jane’s . Two test-firings were conducted in September last year.

The Nag anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) is finally set to enter production by the end of 2019 as confirmed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Aero India 2019.

The system will undergo final summer user trials in May-June this year   after it successfully completed its winter user trials in December 2018. The user trials commenced after a protracted period of validation tests, in part due to the performance of the imaging infrared (IIR) seeker head.

MSR Prasad, Director General of Missiles and Strategic Systems (MSS) DRDO, told Jane’s , “We have completed a series of developmental trials in the past three years under PROSPINA (Product Support and Product Improvement and Induction of Nag) mission mode project.

https://www.janes.com/article/86771/aer ... e-aircraft
India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) unveiled a model of the Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft (MMMA) proposed for the Indian Coast Guard's (ICG's) requirement, at Aero India 2019.

The aircraft has been designed to be rapidly configurable, and can take on multiple roles such as maritime surveillance, pollution surveillance, search and rescue, cargo and personnel transportation, and air ambulatory operations.

It has been equipped with an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, in addition to maritime search, and airborne target tracking radars with small target imaging, detection, and classification capabilities. Its electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) payloads include mid-wave infrared (MWIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensors, a spotter scope, and a laser rangefinder.

Aero India 2019: India to receive second Scorpene-class submarine by April 2019
The Indian Navy will likely receive its second Scorpene-class submarine, Khanderi by March, or April 2019.

The matter was confirmed with Jane's by chairman and managing director of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL), Commodore Rakesh Anand, at Aero India 2019.

Meanwhile, the third submarine Karanj is also likely to be delivered by end of year 2019, he added. Both Khanderi and Karanj are currently undergoing sea acceptance trials.

The programme's first-of-class, INS Kalvari was commissioned in December 2017, after a delay of more than six years from the original contracted timelines.

The contract for the licensed production of six Scorpene-class submarines at MDL, Mumbai, was signed on 6 October 2005 under Project 75.

He said the BrahMos NG would be used to hit slow-moving targets like a airborne warning and control systems (AWACS), transporters and refuellers. Mishra added that the BrahMos NG would be a great asset to submarines because it could even be fired from a torpedo tube.
Brahmos in air to air mode? With the same seeker or will they have a different seeker for A2A mode?

To begin with, the seeker can esiliy do the job of terminal homing. ECCCM already built in against powerful & heavy ship radar; AWACS capabelity is less than ship radars.

Rotary UAV
RUAV guys are doing everything inhouse except the INS for which they "may" have to go outside! My dream of orgs finally talking to each other and repurposing are finally coming true. HAL team went to NAL and picked up the engine for Nishant which is now suitable for their RUAV. Tonbo imaging is making custom EO/IR payloads and are even looking at LIDAR. 6 hr endurance, 200 km datalink limited range, 40 Kg payload out of an AUW of 200 kg, whats not to like? HAL-IIT tieup re-using the AFCS algos from ALH even! L-Band datalink which HAL is developing in parallel.

Up for proposal to HAL board soon and hope to get it cleared.

Now 2 mins is too less for us oldies, but still useful details in many talks.

E.g. Uttam team confirms they are looking to replace the MK1 MMRs in LCA with their radar and its ready quick enough (that's what they seem to imply), Mk1A will also have a desi option to supplant or complement the Israeli option.
Well, I'm the guy in the RUAV video. :D

Was there any model, mention of something like follow on to Multi Role Transport Aircraft? Or nothing and its now open field for C295. Shall be a pity given that it would have been huge opportunity. Thinking about what happens when An 32s start retiring.

A little blast from the past (AI2017)

https://www.livefistdefence.com/2017/02 ... 30mki.html

Do we know if the new DARE Jammer made it into the Su-30 MKI's? Also any relation between this jammer and the self protection jammer under development?

Lots of interesting nuggets in this article: a new digital RWR for the MKIs & how SIVA pod was used for Brahmos-A testing!
