Congratulations to NaMo ji. :)

After 10 years of desperation one can finally smell a chance (just a whiff though) of a complete and total victory over congressis and the characteristics they represent in desh.

The leader is unequivocally clear for all the legions of hitherto seemingly disparate Nationalists to rally behind.
Now we HAVE a fighting chance.

more khujili for congi

http://www.rediff.com/news/report/congr ... 130913.htm

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s anointment as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate was brushed aside by Congress leaders on Friday evening as the BJP’s internal issue.

The Congress nonchalance is, of course, meant only for public consumption.

Congress leaders had convinced themselves that the BJP’s internal squabbles would prevent it from naming Modi as its prime ministerial candidate.

These leaders were confident that BJP President Rajnath Singh would find it difficult to go ahead with the announcement if party veteran L K Advani was not on board.

The BJP’s ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, was in no mood to delay the announcement, though it would have preferred Advani to have gone along with the decision.

Senior Congress leaders privately admit they were surprised that the BJP went ahead with Modi’s anointment after Advani remained adamant that the announcement be made after the year-end assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Each time the issue of Modi’s elevation came up for discussion over the past year, Congress leaders would point out that the Gujarat leader would first have to overcome three hurdles before he could be declared a contender.

Naming Advani and his supporters, National Democratic Alliance allies and the RSS as the stumbling blocks, Congress leaders maintained that Modi had a long way to go before being declared The Candidate.

The argument advanced by Congress leaders and some BJP leaders was that while Modi’s image would not only drive away present and potential NDA allies, it would also create a wedge within the BJP’s ranks in view of their reservations about the Gujarat chief minister's imperial style of functioning.

RSS leaders too were unhappy with Modi’s dictatorial attitude and initially reluctant to endorse his candidature. All this is now in the past.

The BJP has no choice but to go ahead with Modi’s coronation. Not only does he enthuse the party's rank and file like no other party leader does, he is also the only BJP leader with mass appeal.

According to the BJP’s internal assessment, regional parties will flock to support the party should it push its Lok Sabha tally in 2014 to between 180 and 200 seats.

Besides energising its cadres, BJP leaders believe the decision to name Modi as its prime ministerial candidate will put pressure on the Congress to do the same.

The BJP’s objective is to convert the 2014 Lok Sabha election into a Modi versus Rahul contest.

While the Congress will need to revise its electoral strategy in the light of Friday’s developments, the party will not fall into the BJP’s trap by naming Rahul Gandhi or anybody else as its prime ministerial candidate.

Congress leaders have underlined that elections in a Parliamentary democracy are fought in each constituency on the basis of a political party’s ideology and programme. It is not about individuals, they maintain.

As demonstrated by Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s recent speeches in Delhi and Rajasthan, the party will keep the focus on its pro-poor measures like the Food Security Bill and the Land Acquisition Bill. It will make a concerted effort not to shift the attention to individuals.

Rahul Gandhi did not name the BJP or Modi in his speeches while pointing out that the Congress will not respond to the abusive and negative campaign launched by its political rivals.

Congress leaders hope the fault lines within the BJP will come into view as elections draw closer. They believe that BJP chief ministers like Shivraj Chouhan and Raman Singh, and senior leaders like Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Murli Manohar Joshi, who are clearly unhappy with Modi’s elevation, will strike back.

Moreover, it is also the Congress’s assessment that the RSS and belligerent BJP cadres will push the party into giving primacy to its hardline Hindutva agenda that can alienate the middle class who are enamoured with Modi’s Gujarat model of development.

Such a development will also ensure the support of the minorities to the Congress, these leaders feel.

Congress insiders maintain that the BJP cannot hope to get a majority on its own as the party is in contention in no more than 300 Lok Sabha seats.

Even if the BJP wins anything between 180 to 200 Lok Sabha seats, the party, Congress leaders argue, will not be able to enlist the support of allies who are put off by Modi’s image.

The Congress, on the other hand, these party leaders argue, will be in a position to win more friends even if it gets less Lok Sabha seats than the BJP. meaning buy more friends

Good to see Modi finally being selected unequivocally. I hope he also has a strong candidate for Home Minister. Lol Purush as ABV's pick was a significant weak spot in his cabinet.

Marten..true....long fight ahead. I personally am very cynical that the people of India will even vote in a govt that will help them. 60 odd years of brainwashing and being locked into caste, personal interests and other forms of thinking wont go away overnight. I hope I am wrong. If they win..
About the HM, if not Shah, then who? I hope it's not Jaitley, all smooth talk but no mass base or Ananthakumar or some other waffler.
Shah as HM will be the best bet to know exactly what's going on and keep modi in power. The ideal mix of power and responsibility..

Not NSA. Good organizer and loyal partyman as Amit Shah is, we need a thoroughly experienced specialist in that role given the prevailing security environment. Maybe Shyam Saran could be brought back in.

Dont feel bad. Ultimately its all about whats good for India at that point in time. If Namo (purely hypothetically) after say a decade becomes another (current) Advani like figure, he will be opposed and forced out by the nationalists as well. Its about Mother India, not about Namo or Advani.

I read that Namo touched the feet of Sushma Swaraj and MM Joshi. Joshi I understand, he is an elder, but it is uncustomary to touch the feet of someone younger than yourself. Namo was born in 1950 and SS was born in 1952.

Is there something I am missing?

Gents here are already allotting cabinet posts in NaMo s govt... I like this confidence.

In the mean time can some serious projections be had on no: of seats Bhajapa needs to target to get the maximum milage from the chance to run the govt ?

I for one want a powerful govt to come. Not some ultimately lame duck govt which can't even amend the current moth eaten constitution and get it into some working condition attuned with the times and the needs we live in - The majority must be so high that even Supreme court should think twice before taking panga with the elected govt, citing some "basic structure theory".

ABV once mooted a demand for a new Constitution while he was PM but was shot down from obvious quarters.
NaMo should now succeed in this with a unbeatable majority in LS. Also Bhajapa must have constitution amendments lined up in its manifesto before it goes to polls. This will ensure that there is little scope to question the legitimacy of the exercise when it happens.

No No Sir, if you want to be progressive and Modern, it is fashionable to - not to speak your own mother tongue (Hindi, Oriya etc), eat Meat (if Beaf then you have really arrived, did you know as per some english translation of Ramyana even the Lord ate it, ask LKA he read that!!), Denigrate fellow Indians but prostate before Gaurang Prabhus, Cuss Hinduism and praise (well anything but Hinduism), Talk about greatness of TSP and small mindedness of India, and finally say Djinnah was truly secular (but then all the Meme here are rolled into one, I doubt it was Advani brainchild, more like SKs)

Amendments

Already there in Bhajapa manifesto
1)Abrogation of 370
2)Common civil code
3) others which I forgot

To be added anew a few from the top of my head
1)Police reforms (with a NaMo(a person who always batted for federalism) at the helm even CMs like JJ and Mayawati and Mamta will be finally willing.)
2)More federalism .
3) New Indic definition to Secularism - that every thing dharmic is innately Secular.

Are you thinking of Shivshankar Menon? He's the consistent peddler of WKK crap, the author of Sharm-el-Shaikh and Thimphu declarations, the backer of uninterruptible dialogue, etc.

Shyam Saran's views are definitely in the right place, read his address on India's nuclear deterrent here:

http://krepon.armscontrolwonk.com/files ... -2-1-3.pdf

Saran has participated in Aman Ki Asha seminars on the Indian delegation, but then so has G Parthasarthy, who is no WKK either. If anyone can be said to have inherited K Subrahmanyan's mantle as a strategic thinker, it's Saran.

Doval or RNS Singh would be good choices too, though.

Now that he is officially PM candidate & travelling frequently outside Guj, he is going to attract more attention than ever from all sorts of Intel. agencies around the globe including unkils & aunties.

God forbid if something happens will surely lead to manufactured "Arab spring" type of chaos in desh. There are many enemies within & outside Bharat getting desperate.

NAC should definitely be scrapped. Actually, Sonia's NAC should be lined up and shot (not going to happen, but as long as we're dreaming about a Modi victory, why not :) )

Seriously, while the economic and public governance damage done by the Sonia regime to India has been publicly visible and recognizable... the less obvious but at least equally devastating damage Sonia has inflicted has been at the institutional level. Not ONE institution: RBI, Armed Forces, Intelligence Agencies, Revenue Services, or Planning Commission has escaped unscathed from this 10-year trauma.

The entire bipolar system of government, with MMS and Sonia exercising power through separate hierarchies, was in itself a subversion of national institutions through the mockery it made of the constitution. To cover up the massive loot, angle for vote banks, placate Pakistan etc, still further damage has been inflicted by circumscribing the power of institutions to act independently, and by pitting them against each other in power struggles (e.g. CBI vs IB, NAC vs Planning Commission.) NAC itself is the creation of Sonia Gandhi and exercises power solely through the illegal and extra-constitutional authority she has usurped. So, it should definitely be scrapped.

The morale of people in government service has probably never been lower than it is now. Repairing and addressing the institutional carnage wrought by Sonia/MMS must be prioritized on par with economic recovery and national security. All these institutions must be restored to the power vested in them by the constitutionally-ordained ambit of their authority, and at the same time, subjected to a very well defined system of checks and balances (so that they remain efficient, and never become talukas for favoured babus to sit and earn hafta through license raj.) Let people who work for GOI actually become proud again, and have the security of knowing that hard work and talent will be rewarded, while corruption will be ruthlessly punished.
