AAP is an urban phenomena which is there to stay , BJP can't ignore it.
People fed up of congress (some of them who will never vote for BJP any way) will give AAP enough time in Delhi provided AAP's govt doesn't fall.
AAP will grow like hydra if they continue to project themselves as honest (even if delivery of promise is only 25% of manifesto)
Problem (and thereby solution for BJP) lies in the fact that AAP is a leftist movement therefore it will drain economy
, empty govt treasure and not generate employment.
Also for next many years AAP will need a secular support to form govt which will be congress this is where they should be attacked.
Once vajpayee said--these regional parties vouch for elka chalo in states and then ally in Delhi.
This will have to impressed on people that AAP can't claim moral up man ship if they ally with congress for survival

(IMHO) AAP govt will fall after 2014 (existence of this govt is suicidal for congress in long run) & Haryana elections, anti defection law doesn't apply to AAP hence they will be bought over by BJP who will form govt , there is not going to be re election in Delhi.

People of Delhi have spoken and chosen someone who will make them free of bribe culture forgetting that they themselves are the ones accepting bribes too. So a Clerk in DJB wishes not to offer bribe to anyone in his day to day life but same person is first in Queue to harass and ask for bribe when he is sitting in his chair as Govt Babu.
The dichotomy is that same folks who are cheering for AK now will be shouting 'Down with AK" as soon as he takes a decision which is politically inconvenient. After all how long is he going to blame Shiela Aunty or Central govt.
It is easy to criticize but very hard to take hard decisions.
I would rather sit back and wish AK well that he succeeds because like any other industry his success will launch
multiple parties promising to provide better alternative than established parties and will force others to work on better governing model.

What other parties would learn is that it pays to warm up to Ford Foundation and other external financiers, who can then manipulate the Indian Mainstream Media to sing your paeans day and night and help you saturate the electorate, who can urge their NGOs working in India to use their street cred to help these upstarts, who can get the Marxist and Yuppie dominated education institutes to back you!

And yes, a Degree in Political Nautanki helps too!

^^ There is a proverb in kannada, might be in other languages - yardo duddu, yelamanna jatre. Essentially it means "when its not your money, why worry" [about spending it].

Does anyone think its applicable here? :P

his supporters are fighting it out on several forums, saying that overall budget of delhi is over XXXXXXXXXX crore so this subsidy is justified, more over with curb on corruption more than this will be recovered. Many are writing ' ab aaya asli nayak'. And media is sucking up to like never before. there is some thing highly suspicious

Neeraja Rao vs the land mafia

When Y.S.Rajshekar Reddy ( YSR for short) took over as CM, he came up with a controversial G.O. 166, in 2008, which was meant to regularize land owned by poor people in Govt lands. In reality it became a back door entry for politicians to grab lands illegally. One of them was Ravindranath Reddy, who took over her land in 2008, registering it in the name of a 90 yr old Laxmi Rajyam. This guy, Ravindranath Reddy, was none other than YSR’s own brother in law, and uncle to Jaganmohan Reddy, one of the contenders for CM’s post. Ravindranath Reddy in cahoots with Jagan and the then Collector, Navin Mittal, grabbed Neeraja’s land illegally. When Neeraja approached the GHMC Addl Comissioner, Dhananjay Reddy, he bluntly replied that he could not act against YSR’s family.

She approached Jagan in Feb 2010, hoping for justice, he gave her false assurances, and then it was apparent, that he was just playing aorund. Neeraja did not give up hope, and later approached GHMC Comissioner Krishnababu, and and finally on July 27, 2011 the Govt scrapped the regularization of the land, and finally the court gave orders to break down the illegal structures on it.

Neeraja’s fight for justice is heart warming, and gives a ray of hope to many ordinary people, who have fallen victim to the land mafia. Neeraja Rao has shown that you can get justice, if you are willing to fight back, and there in lies a lesson to ordinary people. Do not remain passive in face of injustice and fight back. And on that note, wishing all a Happy New Year.

Before PAIDMEDIA makes this AAP victory, you heard this in SM first. The brave woman has been fighting since 2008.

http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/lead/wa ... epage=true Water priorities for urban India In the light of this massive reform proposed in the Twelfth Plan, it is somewhat disappointing to see the zeal being shown by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to rush into the 666 litres free water agenda. Indeed, this raises the alarming prospect of further disadvantaging the already deprived sections of Delhi who get no piped water at all. The AAP manifesto itself has a much more nuanced understanding of water issues in Delhi. The manifesto clearly acknowledges that over 30 per cent of Delhi’s residents do not get tap water in their homes. It also recognises that 17 lakh households do not have access to safe sanitation. The loss of revenue from freebies to those already getting water could end up pushing the unconnected even further down the deprivation ladder. It is to be hoped that the AAP will reconsider its water priorities, taking both the Twelfth Plan and its own manifesto more seriously.(Mihir Shah is Member, Planning Commission, Government of India.)

and the next one:

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/a ... epage=true
AAP government announces 50 per cent subsidy on power

“The power companies have time to file their objections against CAG audit till tomorrow [Wednesday]. By the time the issue of auditing is decided, we would be providing 50 per cent subsidy to power consumers. The subsidy will apply for consumptions up to 400 units and it would bring relief to over 28 lakh out of the existing 34.6 lakh power consumers in Delhi,” said Mr. Kejriwal after chairing the Cabinet meeting.

The decision comes within 48 hours of the DERC saying the government cannot interfere in tariff fixation as it is a regulatory issue.

I wanted to explore ideas that AAP is espousing in Politics, Economics, Governance. In the political arena AAP is connecting directly to people or atleast the Urban Population. In Economics they are espousing populism as of now, In governance they are espousing more Bureaucracy via making Jan Lokpal/Lokayukt.

Some ideas are good, some are bad. The objective is to get the good ones through (either by AAP or via other parties) and ensure the bad ones are not implemented. That was the objective of the AAP thread.

O bhai! some of you guys may be getting hyper. Twweeter and SM are designed in a manner that you would get drowned out but if you know the tactics then you can drown out everybody else. During my 1 month hiatus I had taken that route, whooped some good ... but realized that I need to get to the high grounds before I can stage a true counter attack. I came back to warn some of you guys who I reckoned would be willing and have cities in India to live in.

AAP is a threat. But then you always gain some and you always lose some fights. This round we had lost in Delhi, when people started giving weight-age to the kuturk of 'I could have made money in IT dept.' and all that nonsense. That was before the casting of votes in Delhi.

There is a lot of good work to be done. AAP is not the biggest threat. And Indics are not at their lowest. Those phases are past us.

You can enjoy the whole campaign man. Sincerely advise to ration the hitting out till you can feel the 'inner bliss' :P.

Saar,
why not go for a more broader discussion on the topic: discussions on western spawned/funded 'people's movements' around the world. This is a discussion that would suit strategic forum.

Why deal with Fordri as if he is just another political party. Why not take up the subject comprehensively and see how similar 'people's movements' have been funded or spawned or supported by the west in various countries. From Arab Spring to Tehrir Square to Jantar mantar. The use of internet(i.e. online forums, facebook and twitter) to drum support along with the media support(i.e. support of the media aligned with west) is the hallmark of these 'people's movements'. It would be interesting to study why and how these 'revolutions' are funded by the west.

Fordriwal is just an opportunist. If it was not him, they would have found someone else to do the same job. The same goes for Anna. Even now, Anna does not get any media space before or after the lokpal movement. He was given attention by media only during Lokpal movement. Isn't that suspicious. The same applies to Fordriwal's case also. The moment his usefulness is over, the media attention to him will be choked and since that is the oxygen to him, it will be a political death(unless he can overcome that in someway). Fordriwal's overt political/social stances are merely pretenses and frankly do not need any attention. Most of the time, he just says what he thinks will get him cheers. And there is a huge leftist bias there. But, that doesn't matter. He can easily transform to a rightist if he sees the need for that.

What is more important is the larger networks that are propping him up. He was an unknown figure just a few years back. He has no great achievements to show in this period for him to get so much media attention. To give you an example: for about 2 months(and still continuing), there is a massive protest in AP(coastal and seema regions) against the idea of division of AP. But, hardly any english channel showed it. Infact, the people leading these protests were so miffed with ignoring their cause that they decided to boycott these channels in their regions. And yet, the english channels did not show it. Not even a casual mention. This is just one instance to show how the media decides what to show, how to show, when to show and most importantly what not to show.

So, when some marginal guy starts getting too much media spotlight, it should immediately raise doubts. What are the achievements of Fordriwal to merit so much attention before he became CM? Even his NGO work is not really spectacular. Infact, people who worked with him previously complaint that he abandoned the job midway. His only achievement was that he was given a ford funded award. Why was that award given? Is merely getting a foreign funded award the biggest achievement?

This should raise doubts. Someone talked about occam's razor. Yes, lets apply occam's razor. Does anyone think that media is a honest do-gooder with no bias or vested interests? If the media starts propping up a particular person/party/movement suddenly out of thin air(who were not previously heard of), then the question is why is the media doing it?
Most probably someone must be funding it. Whoever is funding it, must be doing so because he sees some gains out of it. So, what gains do the funders expect?

This whole business is in no way some simplistic people coming together and forming a movement. It is a well-thought out, calibrated, propaganda driven operation with lots of foreign funds.

Some of the propaganda can be quite sophisticated. For example: bolly hero Ameer extended his support to Fordriwal's movement. Later, he was part of a show called Satyam Jayate. The final episode featured a song "niklo" i.e. 'come out' i.e. egging the people to take to streets. On the face of it, there is no connection between this show and Fordriwal's party. But, they are feeding the same thing to the audience. And preparing the people sub-consciously for the same purpose.

Frankly, I am not against people's movements or even subsidy based economy. I do think some amount of subsidy is necessary for the poorer sections specially in poorer societies/countries. What I am against is neo-colonialism carried out through foreign proxies by hijacking various concepts or people's aspirations. Giving subsidies to people who need is one thing. But using subsidies to bankrupt the economy and then forcing it to take on debts by putting gold/land/natural resources as the security. And these debts come with high interest rates. In short, its neo-colonialism.

the idea of aap is basically non-existence in advanced world.. basically meaning, the policy based governance, law and order and justice setup, should by default remove the evil corruption. if a party is elected on the basis of this alone, means what a pathetic state of the county governance is anyone's answer.

by default, corruption setup should not exists. our Indic system needs tons of corrections, and we don't need political party to fight for it..whereas, we need a systemic correction to fight it out. we have to change people's behavior not to be corrupted nor encourage corruption. it should be more like day to day living, and right to live without corruption. that is what aap should fight for, and leave the governance to capable people.

i am sure, aap will change soon once it sees how it is screwing up dilli gov kitty. this populism will end soon.. and will get a black soot. poor people will remain poor. aam minds can't govern - simple. gross socialism can never survive.. it has to be based on common codes, abolish quota system, install economic condition based reservations and help schemes, etc. these have no corruption concepts, but growth and building the nation concepts where aap has nothing shown yet.

The water discussion in Delhi has only been about house holds. How about businesses? AK says that there is excess capacity and no body knows where the excess capacity is going? Did he account for water to businesses? How will they be affected by his schemes. What about offices, public buildings, bus stands, railway stations, public toilets etc, etc. Does DJB supply water for them too or is there a different entity catering to them?

The money for the free stuff has to come from some where. In AP, NTR promised and implemented liquor ban and 2 kilo rice in 1994. So that money had to be made from somewhere else. They started hiking RTC bus fares every few weeks until it became cheaper and vastly convenient to travel in auto rickshaws. There was a proliferation of auto rickshaws every where in AP. APSRTC, which was consistently winning the best RTC in the country and which was profitable incurred losses. And then a couple of years later, the same govt. lifted the liquor ban and the liquor licenses were sold for huge sums.

good to see that PAAP is pursuing the dole route which has ruined the economy and the country in the last 10 years and has been solidly rejected by the voters in last 4 assembly elections. PAAP seems to be in a great great hurry - almost as if AK is a 1 or 2 day CM. Reminds me of a Bollywood movie. In that movie the 1 day CM even killed the actual CM ( Shiela ji, ab apka kya hoga ... ).

There is a buzz in twitter that Udayakumar(anti nuclear plant guy) has joined AAP though no confirmation yet. This is what Prashant Bhushan had to say couple of days back

Bhushan said the day would not be far when ordinary people would be able to decide whether projects like the Koodankulam nuclear plant should be made operational or dismantled.

from here http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/ ... 972614.ece

Then why are these guys getting elected to govern? Just give people paperslips and keep voting for everything. No decisions to be taken and no responsibility. Either the top guys in AAP are dangerously stupid and stupidly dangerous.

As an aside, I don't know what are they calling AAP in TamilNadu? It will be interesting to convince Tamil voters for AAP! thayavuseidhu aapukku vaakkaliyungal!
It is an AAP for the entire nation if they come anywhere close to winning seats

Why should the Aam Aadmi Party be allowed to fritter away the Rs 446 crore profit the Delhi Jal Board made in 2012-13 in subsidies to the middle class and rich when that money would be better used connecting the 7 lakh poorest households who are not getting any water at all, and who are at the mercy of the water tanker mafia which charges them several times the multiple of the average water tariff in Delhi?

AAP is a way to hide from dynastic fallouts.. a framework that can hide all those evil honchos and kala angrez empire, who had take dynastic setup to chew their daily parasitic meals. They can hibernate on aap ticket for a while, and preserve their status.. unless some Lord Kali raises up and destroys the framework.

Least we forget that BJP has a 3-1 lead of CONG(I) in last 5 lok sabha elections as the largest party. Subsidy can win election once but not time and again otherwise no govt in power would have ever lost. 2004 was due to fall in AVB's health and amm admi against reforms and 2009 was a mandate for cong(I) for stability and goverance after 2004-2009 was basically being a left show under UPA which they have squrely lost due to corruption and price rise and general lack of taking firm decision on number of issues of national importance. Public memory is short but it does not forget the pains otherwise there would have been nothing called "anti-incumabncy"
