Coal scam: Court pulls up CBI over improper probe http://dlvr.it/5flBdQ
New Delhi: A court in New Delhi Tuesday pulled up the CBI for not probing "crucial aspects" regarding the alleged roles of government officials in allocating coal blocks to a Hyderabad-based company, which was charge sheeted in the case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Rao directed the investigating officer (IO) of the case to conclude the probe and file a "detailed report" by next date of hearing which he listed as 30 August.

Kerala's issues are very different from WB or Assam. It is not an immigration issue, but a follow-the-money issue. Most of the demographic pressures come from the radical sections of the Ms and Cs. However, both those groups also have significant (probably a demographic majority within) of groups who are long established parts of the local population. For example, the old Christians have been around for ~2000 years. They are largely non-proselytizing folks who want to be left alone to practice their faith the way they want. They are economically strong and generally positive contributors to socio-economic scene of the state. Ditto for the older established trading Muslim community of old.

The threat primarily comes from the free flow of money into the hands of evangelical Christians and radical Muslims, who not only threaten the demographic balance, but also their own communities, by forcing their views upon their brethren, backed by money power. This is a recent phenomenon, starting a few decades ago. A BRF poster from the Kerala C community provided a detailed description of this dynamic from his own perspective, several months ago, earlier in this thread.

Prior to the recent aggressive moves, the cold hard truth is, among 'lower' caste Hindu groups, there existed, and still exists, a benevolent view of Cs in particular. This was because until the turn of the 20th century, Kerala was among the most oppressively stratified states, and many sought escape through conversion. It is that benevolence that leads to lack of action. That more or less ended with the SNDP's masterstroke that broke the back of the stratification, combined with the LDP's efforts to economically break the previous landholding system.

That is why the Ezhavas still vote LDP, while the Ms and Cs vote UDP, creating the situation we have now. Further, I disagree that Hindus are the most socio-economically disadvantaged group. They're close to the Cs, and ahead of the Ms. But they don't get much of the flood of money coming in from the Gelf. All communities have sizeable economic interests that are safeguarded by the political binary system.

Outsiders coming in and going 'Hindu khatrein mein hain!' looking at demographic numbers, largely do not get the dynamics involved. For the BJP to make headway, they not only need to take on the money power and cut off the flow, but also safeguard existing economic nexuses or provide an alternative. The southern and northern ends of the state are the parts affected by the radical elements back with external money - radical Cs in the south, radical Ms in the north. The rest of the state on the other hand has a significant stable socio-economic situation where the LDP & UDP safeguard the economic interests of their respective votebanks.

The BJP's beachheads in Kerala are in the northern and southern ends, where they can combat the radicalized opposition. However, they'll make slow progress elsewhere unless they also provide an economic basis to vote for them. Quite frankly, the situation in AP backed by incoming money is a much more dangerous one, because that place lacks an existing base of people of the same faith who have both an interest and the economic power to oppose the new money radicals. The situation in KL is also completely different from WB or AS, both of which face immigration-related issues.

The quickest way to fix KL and particularly AP is clamp down on the inflow of radical money.

Bengali Hindus apparently have not smelled extinction yet unlike the Assamese non-Muslims.
Victor, today evening had a chat with some colleagues from Kolkata/ Asansol and they raised politics. I asked them about WB and was surprised when they said almost everyone is for Modi. Many people are not saying it loud, but there is huge support for him. THey also said it will not translate to many seats as massive rigging has taken place too. I trust their judgement as these folks are in contact with a large populace and are not just rooted to urban Kolkata where there are large numbers of Modi supporters. So there is huge change brewing in regional bastions like TN, KL, OD, WB, Assam etc. It's not that WB is unaffected by the churning, there are other factors i guess because of which it is not so much out in the open. Maybe BJP has to provide more firebrand and solid leadership out there plus muscle power to challenge the TMC/Left goons on their turfs.

This is a classic case of foreign interference destabilizing a region of India. The difference between KL and WB is the Gelf money from the Arabs. The mooners in north KL have become arrogant because of this. The only solution is to sanction the Arabs to (1) prevent Indian labor from working there, and (2) prevent remittances originating from countries which do not respect religious rights (i.e.. the Arab states).

Shut off the money supply, and the problem will disappear in less than 10 years.

To add to what Suraj said, I can personally vouch, from family experience, for the fact that an originally Syrian Christian Keralite family was radicalized by Pentecostal groups with foreign funding, by first targeting the younger members, then using them to pressurize the older members into converting (! converting from Xtian to Xtian - would you believe), then using this group to further target Hindu members of the family who came in through marriage. The problem of EJ penetration is largely foreign money. But this is OT here.

India election could bring inflection point for US, China
Foxy Hoxy Boxy
The construction of the Pyramids at Giza, the defeat of European fascism in World War II, the hordes of Baby Boomers who attended Woodstock and are now overburdening the Social Security system: All of these were mass events, shaped by the expended energies of whole populations – and none of them holds a candle, in terms of sheer participation, to the elections that wrapped up in India this week. With the outcome due Friday, Indian election officials estimate that upwards of 500 million people will have cast ballots at some 900,000 polling sites across the South Asian nation, making this the largest election in human history, and the highest turnout rate in Indian history.

“The national voter's turnout in this election,” declared Akshay Rout, director general for the Indian Election Commission, “is 66.38 percent…The previous high was in 1984 when it was 64 percent.”Most analysts are predicting a handy victory for the Bharatiya Junata Party (BJP), the opposition party led by Narendra Modi, the technocrat governor of the Western state of Gujarat. Modi is seen riding a wave of disaffection with the Indian economy, which averaged 7 percent annual growth from 1997 to 2011 but which has shrunk in recent years, falling to 4.7 percent in 2013.Rahul Gandhi, leader of the ruling Indian National Congress party, has failed to inspire the enormous electorate, despite his impressive pedigree: He is the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family that has loomed large in Indian politics for seven decades. The U.S. and India conduct nearly $100 billion in annual trade and represent, respectively, the world’s largest and third-largest economies. They are also the world’s two largest democracies. Each bears nuclear arms and regards the other as a critical partner in counter-terrorism efforts aimed at combating groups based in neighboring Pakistan. The State Department on Monday congratulated India for concluding what were generally seen as free, fair and peaceful elections, and pledged to work constructively with the winners. “The United States, like so many others around the world, has great admiration and respect for the vibrancy, diversity, and resilience of India's democracy,” said spokesperson Jen Psaki. “India continues to play a critical role in advancing prosperity, democracy and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.”
Asked if India could serve as a counterweight to the rising regional influence of China, Psaki demurred, saying only that the relationship is “vitally important for economic, strategic reasons.”
Foreign policy analysts also warned that there are limits to how deeply Delhi will align itself with any nation.“India is rising, its economy is growing. It would like to be on a faster growth track,” said Alyssa Ayres, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations who served under Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry as the deputy assistant secretary of state for South Central Asia.\
India is embarking on a military modernization [program]. Does that mean that India wants to ally with other countries to serve as a counterweight with China? Not necessarily….India is very fiercely independent in the way it goes about its own foreign policy strategy, and India has its own foreign policy that it's pursuing with China.”

Modi must learn from the past and not repeat mistakes

- No separate PM and NDA Chairperson. There can only be one power-centre.

- No vested interests in key ministries. All ministers should be clean, conflict-of-interest free and accountable.

- Act only on nation's interest, and dismantle all non-essential non-constitutional governmental bodies.

- Kill foreign NGO funding. Create an Aid Agency to collect foreign funding, and distribute to Indian only NGOs.

^^It was pathetic to see jaitley today calling mms honest today. He has forgotten the hidden arrogance of mms when he became PM in '04 how Advani ji and other NDA leaders had gone to him and mms had taken the file from them and threw it on the table contemptuously. How media had gone orgasmic at the show of strength by mms. And now mms ends his reign with an arrogant decision by appointing next COAS still media support is so much that media is just presenting it as the most natural thing to do. I hope just to spite and show them their place NaMo changes this decision. It'll be fun to see Meenakshi Lekhi pointing out instances of congi tanashahi and pliant media's double standard.

Would be so fun to see Tatra-Augusta raised in debates with maino name dragged in.

If the NDA has a majority and if Modi becomes the PM after 16 May, then Jaitly, Advani, SS, and MMJ should not get any position in the cabinet. MMJ or Advani should be nominated for president. Jaitly and SS should be told to join the Congress and shown the door.

Jaitley can be useful, under NaMo's control.

He is a Rajya Sabha member, so can be in the cabinet. Unlike MMS, this time the PM will be from Lok Sabha, so it doesn't matter if other members of cabinet are from Rajya Sabha.

Jaitley praising MMS may cause some heartburn in Congress.

Why Jaitley, he is fine. You have to understand, at one point of time, Modi was PA to MMJ, so MMJ heartburn is understood, he cant do any damage and has contributed. Ditto to Advani. They should get a role that does not hinder Modi and his forward plan.

The leader claimed that the AIADMK would be a “natural ally” of any NDA dispensation – either with a majority of its own or that which depends on post-poll allies. “For the AIADMK, the NDA numbers simply don’t matter and it’s the role of Ms. Jayalalithaa that counts”,

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/t ... epage=true
exactly what I expected.. she would toss anything for power... now that NDA did have pre-poll agreement, sorry lady! too late bye bye tamil nadu, you are on your own agenda for growth.

In Tamil Nadu, the Modi mission was simply to fragment the seat contingent. If AIADMK, NDA parties and DMK win more or less same number of seats, then Modi can do business with any and every party!

1. Jaitly is too close to Congress I hierarchy, I don't trust his judgement entirely.
2. Advani is simply an old fool that gave bad advice to ABVP and nearly ran the BJP in to the ground electorally in 2009. People were pissed off at his TSP visit too.
3. Sushma - same as Jaitly. Except that she's worse like a woman who is having a bad that time of the month, but for years!
4. MMJ is too old and really can't do much now.

Rumors doing the round that " Metro Man" ie Elattuvalapil Sreedharan is going to be the next Railway Minister in cabinet of @narendramodi
This is a great idea, but what about integrating the Railways, Shipping, Road and Civil Aviation Ministries into a single ministry of transportation? I feel that the need of the hour is efficiency and synergy in infrastructure development, esp. given the lost decade. Its important that maximum return be obtained from the resources and time spent on these projects... On top of that, having a single ministry would make it easier for companies with complex proposals (such as developing a shipping terminal in conjunction with railway/highway access) to get clearances. I feel that E Sreedharan would be great for a new ministry such as this, given his background in both rail and shipping.

Thanks for the sane advise. In every exit poll that was published since 1999, they consistently overestimated NDA numbers ( my be some sort of EVM magic). So let us not count the chickens before they are hatched. Let us see what the NDTV exit poll numbers are. They had two days to digest all other polls to come up with their own spin.

11:09 Giriraj courts controversy again: BJP leader Giriraj Singh today again courted controversy by saying that all terrorists belong to a "particular community".

"Since terrorism is a matter relating to the country and not to a community, why secular leaders remain silent when all persons arrested in terrorism cases belong to a particular community," he said.

"Are there only a few to define religious non-discrimination? Is it not true that all the terrorists caught belong to one community? I am not saying that all the people in that community are terrorist but whoever is caught belongs to same community," he said.

The BJP leader, who was recently booked for his hate speeches, said this mindset was "posing a danger" to the country.

"This is a naked example of pseudo secularism and patronisation of a community for vote bank politics. This mindset is posing danger to the country," said the Nawada Lok Sabha candidate of the saffron party.

11:04 A sense of disquiet: A person who was never religious, never saw himself as belonging in a narrow sense to a particular community, who was quintessentially a part of the progressive secular intelligentsia of the country whose commitment to the values enshrined in the Constitution has been an important factor sustaining this nation, is now forced to seek refuge among his supposed co-religionists. The Telegraph on the vanishing liberal. Read

10:59 AIADMK: Modi, Jaya good friends : Just in: AIADMK says that if Narendra Modi becomes PM, Jayalalithaa would like to have close ties with the BJP. They are good friends though they may differ politically.

Obviously, everyone loves a winner.

10:49 Naveen Patnaik's BJD indicates conditional support to NDA: A senior leader of the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal today indicated his party's conditional support to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance to help form government at the Centre.

"Keeping in view the opinion of the whole country and the state's interest, there should be no problem in providing conditional support to NDA to form government at the Centre," BJD's chief whip Pravat Tripathy said. -- NDTV

I think its game over for UPA/Turd front if Naveen patnaik and JJ side with the NDA. thats around 35 MPs as addl cushion if needed. TRS if they win in state elections might also like to keep on right side of the center, they need aid and packages to build up their state again.

Beena Samuel Garry • 2 hours ago
This is the same line of thinking Rajdeep spins in his blogs. Everything to them is a matter of "perception", "advertising" "re-invention" "image management" "marketing". I think this is what they discuss at their dinner table every night. So both of them think alike. They believe that the voter is a fool and cannot evaluate performance on the ground. They believe that the Gujarat voter is dumb, blind and deaf and gives 2/3rds majority to Modi for the last two decades only because of Modi's "marketing". I think because they are in the business of spin-doctoring news stories themselves, they think everyone thinks and acts like them. They cannot digest the one thing that Modi is better at than the others: P - E - R - F - O - R - M - A - N - C - E!

The biggest challenge to Modi govt will come from such loud mouthed hindootva leaders. Why can't they just get the job done instead of making useless statements like these. Especially at a crucial stage of forming alliance etc why do you shoot yourself in the foot? There are many out there who think a victory for Modi sarkaar means they have the license now to do what ever they want. Should be controlled from the beginning.

The best way to deal with the issue, would be to become so attractive and strong that every one wants to be a part of your inner circle. But for that, it is important to become strong.

Let Modi show his real strength on the 16th of May.
