AAP party is different for different folks-

for congi supporters -- AAp is stealing the congis life line for elections- the freebies and various sops-- destined to keep nation in poverty along with its various divisions in society.
for congis B team parties(assorted regional players)- AAp is a powerful alternative due to its novelty factor
for BJP suppoprters- fooling people in various schemes to keep nation backward like congis
for Indian economists- sure recipe for disaster and anarchy
for youth - AAp is a breath of fresh air, but potential to become stench down the line. The policices do not stand the test of time. Hope youth in the party change the dierction of AAP befoe it becomes PAAP on the nation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NaMo vs rest is a given for 2014 elections.
AAp is imitating the rest -- only the difference is the novelty and extreme biased support from media and with some suspicious funding.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Best part is BJP supporters are sticking to NaMo in major way.
floating supporters - middle class who dont believe freebies go to NaMo. those who want to involve in politics and ris ein ranlks will go to AAP as it is easy to do so due to lack of leaders. These are the most committted ones as their career is on line. They are working on Indan angst againts politicans. here paid media is making BJP==congis.
for enemies of India -- breath of fresh air to stop NaMo juggereneaut.

The most hard hit will the congis and its B team -- these core supporters love freebies- they will gravitate to AAP easily with the added advantage of no corruption for now.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
This time in triangular contests -- it is NaMo vs rest-- one polariity is NaMo. The other polarity is diluted with AAP congis and B team which will be divided.
here this time the roles will be reversed with BJP being net gainer. ( the same was in play in the past elections).
Of course unless congis/AAP spring a major surprise by underhand dealing in seat selctions.

Only time will tell.
Interetsing times for us as sdres.

Free water agenda

Since groundwater is the single most important source of water in India today, the Twelfth Plan has launched an ambitious aquifer mapping and management programme. The aquifers in each city need to be mapped and participatory, while sustainable and equitable arrangements for groundwater management need to be worked out in a very location-specific manner.

In the light of this massive reform proposed in the Twelfth Plan, it is somewhat disappointing to see the zeal being shown by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to rush into the 666 litres free water agenda. Indeed, this raises the alarming prospect of further disadvantaging the already deprived sections of Delhi who get no piped water at all. The AAP manifesto itself has a much more nuanced understanding of water issues in Delhi. The manifesto clearly acknowledges that over 30 per cent of Delhi’s residents do not get tap water in their homes. It also recognises that 17 lakh households do not have access to safe sanitation. The loss of revenue from freebies to those already getting water could end up pushing the unconnected even further down the deprivation ladder. It is to be hoped that the AAP will reconsider its water priorities, taking both the Twelfth Plan and its own manifesto more seriously

The video is mainly in Hindi, but 4:16 to 6:25 is in English. The video is a collection of several different TV segments put together. The first portion is about how Kejriwaal is finding popularity and support in Kashmir Valley (Vadi). Amar Farooq of the Hurriyat is shown making statements that are generally supportive of AK....some comment about 'it will start in Kashmir and go to Delhi'.

THe second strip of video shows Prahshant Bhushan who clearly says that Army should get out of Kashmir and something similar about people being badly affected by the army presence (paraphrtasing here). HE says that the presence of army is deadly (ghatak) for Kashmiris and it will be similarly ghatak (deadly?) for all of India. Armed forces special powers act should be canceled and Army out of Kashmir. This for the 'hith' of the jan (benefit/good of the people).

The next cut is an interview by some TV guy where he asks Kejriwaal 'what is your position on Pakistan' . AK does his best to avoid the question.....when the interviewer says it is about security of Delhi people, he tells the interviewer that he should ask the Home Minister about it ! (I mean, can AK really say that if he has aspirations of national leadership? If he is contesting Lok Sabha in the rest of India, then it is perhaps time for him to state his position on it.). Next segment on Batla house issue. The last segment (last 2 minutes?) shows some leader (cannot recognize him) addressing a crowd.....Pakistan prominently figures in his address, quite candid.

The various measures announced by AAP give selective subsidies depending on the usage - and it is nobody's argument that the usage will be higher in middle and upper middle class residential areas. If one maps the usage and subsidy spread, one can actually correlate this with socio-economic classification of Delhi.

Now, one can extend this exercise further and map the areas where AAP won with areas which will benefit the most from these subsidies - and vice versa. If these subsidies come to bite people in relatively more affluent areas who voted for AAP, then we may have a window of opportunity to wrest these seats from AAP.

BJP should take up the cause of these areas and project itself as a political entity which can provide more equitable distribution of resources - and impact on tariff - rather than blind socialism and populist schemes.

Plagiarism is only 1 of the symptoms of AAP's mediocre looniness (and which is scary for India, because right from when I first came into contact with Arvind he was always looking for mediocre, disgruntled frustrated people like himself - and of whom there is no shortage in India). Mediocre people like Arvind have no principles or fixed ideology and are always prepared to compromise at the drop of a hat to accept "partial" victories to delude themselves and their followers.
If it turns out that AK is a nutcase, he will implode sooner or later in spectacular fashion.

AAP is American experiment to induce a dose of socialism which will grind India growth to half in next few years or in region of 3-4% which is actually recession because India has very high inflation. Socialism in short term gives false hope of invincibility like people on high. Socialism is always attractive to non meritocratic and mediocre societies and India is the best example which does it since independence. The loss of talent overseas despite huge number of highly intelligent set of people also shows this amply. Who will pay for subsidy - 200 cr/month ? I will wait for ten years before I give a thought about what AAP is about. I don't care what rest of population thinks because they will get what they aspire for and have to bear the consequences regardless.

This is an interesting and substantative point. Free water and subsidized bijli will help some groups, and the price increase will hurt other groups. By definition, this pits one group against another. Now, I have no idea which group benefits, and which group is getting hit, but assuming that upper middle class is seeing higher electricity rates and is subsidizing rates for the poorer sections, this is expected to cause some re-think among the middle class. I am not following AK's politics closely but I hear that support is coming from English-speaking upper middle-class people. I would assume that this is the group that would see an increase in their rates (water or bijli). Do they still support the measure now? In addition, can this scheme be expanded to all (or much) of India? If yes, where will the extra money come from?

If MSM had not been there, AAP and Arvind Kejriwal would have been political kittens and would have been kicked into the dustbin. However with MSM on its side, AAP is very dangerous.

It is dangerous because it can give a new lease of life to "secularism" just when Bharat was about to give it a mortal strike.

Narendra Modi would surely become PM. His first mission should be to finish off the foreign and dynasty controlled media. A brand new Bharatiya nationalist media should start in India.

Media, NGOs, Jholawala Academics and foreign funded Religious Institutions should be finished off in the first 5 years of NaMo's term.

The idea is by the time Delhites realize it and the rest of India realizes it even later, the GE 2014 would have already taken place and AAP would have dented BJP's prospects. In 5 years time, its time to hatch one more diabolical scheme on India.

No matter how much we deny but now days public perception can be easily influenced by sold out media. By the time truth comes out, its too late.
My only concern is that why BJP has been sleeping. May be some people thought that just being leader of opposition and having cozy relationship with congress is good enough for them. I blame this mess to all the Delhi based leaders of BJP that includes Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitly e.t.c. No point in blaming Advani, he has past his time.

Driven by the twin objectives of removing the Congress-led UPA from power and preventing the formation of a government with the support of the Congress at the Centre, the MDMK will be part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), MDMK general secretary Vaiko said on Wednesday. (No constructive agenda)

During his New Year Day interaction with the media, Mr. Vaiko said he held preliminary talks with the BJP high command, including its president Rajnath Singh, in New Delhi. The MDMK general council on February 4 would have further discussions before firming up the alliance.

Describing the Lok Sabha polls as a defining moment in the Indian political history, Mr. Vaiko said the Congress would be routed (blind anti-congressism)and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would become the Prime Minister. “There is a wave in favour of Mr. Modi in the country,” he said.

Mr. Vaiko said the party’s stand was akin to that of the Akali Dal in Punjab, which had a lot of differences with the BJP, but agreed to join hands with it to prevent the Congress from coming to power. “I also held a discussion with Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal,” he said.

Mr. Vaiko said while he was very firm on defeating the “spineless” Congress, which he alleged, was responsible for the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka, he also wanted to ensure that a political alliance with the support of the Congress was not allowed to come to power as it would be operated by the Congress.

Asked whether the BJP would support the stand of the MDMK for creation of a separate Tamil Eelam, he said there was no need for a political party to support all the programmes of another political party.

“We have agreed to disagree. This is the core principle of an alliance. The greatest danger today in the country is the Congress that betrayed the interests of the Tamils,"(BS,Cong has to do a tightrope walk )he said.

Asked how he could join hands with the BJP, especially when its Prime Ministerial candidate Mr. Modi, had not expressed regret for the Gujarat riots, Mr. Vaiko said Mr. Modi had already made a statement on the 2002 riots. “I applauded him for his open-mindedness.”

Mr. Vaiko, however, declined to comment when asked whether he would seek an apology from Mr. Modi. “I will talk about these issues once we finalise the alliance,”
he said. He also said both his party and the BJP had not set pre-conditions for forming the alliance.

Sethu project

Mr. Vaiko, a strong advocate of the Sethusamudram project, said his party had decided to reconsider its stand on the issue in the wake of environment considerations.

“The issues were not there when the project was conceived. After the submission of Pachauri committee report, we have to take into consideration the livelihood of fishermen and other environment issues,” he added.

A storm may be coming folks --- the CAG audit in Delhi "may" RIGHTLY prove that electricity prices in Delhi and across India were highly inflated and so prices may reduce by 30% to 50% !! By Jan\Feb end CAG will have all the data it needs to show that Distribution companies were over charging by 30% to 50%.

So in feb-2014 or in mar-2014, MNC-owners will give two deals to NaMo
  • Give tickets to 400 MNC-agents and Missionary-agents in BJP\NDA , OR ELSE
  • CAG will disclose the data to public, and enable AK to get court order to reduce electricity charges by 30% and paid-media will make it a news bigger than freedom of India, and thus enable AK to cut crores of votes across India.
Solution ? I will write solution in my SMS thread . Because admins dont want me to write about solutions here.

But let me explain how problem has come into existence.

Nationalists workers such as BST-workers , RSS-workers refused to support the law-drafts needed to reduce corruption. As a result, corruption in all depts and electricity dept grew. It is fact that there is rampant corruption in electricity Ministry in all states including Gujarat and Delhi, and as a result, the production costs are high and supply costs are much much higher. And it is also a fact that BJP\Congress leaders made tons of money. And distribution company owners like Tata, Ambani, Torrent etc also made windfall nefarious illegal profits.

Now the MNC-owners will take advantage of this fact. MNC-owners have installed their agent AK as CM of Delhi. AK has ordered audit on electricity companies. The audit will reveal that Distribution companies were over charging by at least 35% to 50% and were siphoning all profits into sister companies. And with that, AK may manage to get court order to reduce the electricity prices. And AK will become hero nationwide. OR, the MNC-owners can blackmail NaMo to give 400 NDA\BJP tickets to MNC-agents and Missionary agents in BJP\NDA. If NaMo agrees, then MNC-owners will create weak CAG report which will not show much over-charging. In this case, AK will fall flat and NaMo's gains will be protected.

But in either case, Nationalist , Swadeshi and Hinduvaadies have lost. And Nationalists lost because they supported pro-corruption leaders and Nationalists refused to support administrative setup to reduce corruption.

===

I would give analogy. During 800 AD to 1100 AD, money lenders used to charge heavy interest rates and debt, and money landers had bribed Hindu priests to create a myth that "if son doesnt pay unpaid debt of father, then both father and son would rot in hell". The money landers also bribed Hindu kings to force this law that "son will have to pay the unpaid debt of father" !! So many families were in debt for generations. The Muslim Maulavies and Muslim Kings offered them freedom from debt under condition that they accept Islam. And many accepted Islam to get rid of slavery caused by interest rathes !! I cant get the exact quote, but even Vivekanda criticized uncontrolled usury in India of 800 AD till his times. If Hindu nationalists back in 800 AD had worked to control usury, then many lesser would have converted. But back then, Hindu Nationalists did NOT work to reduce usury and so exodus went on. Today, situation is no different.

===

Same way, it is fact Indian elitemen are robbing day and night from Mineral Royalties, in real estate, by bribing PM, CMs, MPs, MLAs, IAS, IPS etc , by bribing judges etc etc. As a result, land prices are high, judges are slow and corrupt, judges promote usury and exploitation, and so forth. All this creates opportunity for MNC-owners to plant their agents like AK OR install MNC-agents in BJP.

Solution I propose is that Nationalists should take zero-tolerance and no-nonsense approach against corruption and nexuses. All "leaders" who have promoted corruption in past, opposed legislative reforms to reduce corruption/nexuses in past etc should be shunned. Because with pro-corruption leaders at apex, MNC-owners are destined to win.

^^^, I thought only in Delhi and Mumbai, distribution was handled by private companies, rest of India is run by Govt. So the CAG audit has no relevance to rest of India. Anyway, the grapevine is that Namo's team is planning a major onslaught on AAP and they plan another campaign blitzkreig, something that the media cannot ignore.

CHANDIGARH: It seems that the BJP-SAD coalition is rapidly moving towards its revival in the UT civic body, as the political alliance clinched two seats in the mayoral poll after a gap of 12 years, delivering a blow to the Congress and its leadership in the city's politics.

The loss of two crucial seats by the Congress in the mayoral polls clearly indicates how party's local MP and former minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has been losing political clout in local politics, as he has failed to generate consensus, even among half municipal councillors of MC, in favour of party's candidates.

I would love to see AAP contest in Chandigarh. This is a seat where they can screw congress big time and BJP can walk away with the prize. But then why am I day dreaming, AAP will never contest such seats. It will only contest in seats where it can help congress by cutting BJP votes or in seats where they can outright win and then lend post poll support to congress.

Best option for AAP-CON combination is, CON withdrawing support to AAP today and the govt falls. AAP can claim martyrdom and CON can be happy that anti CON votes will be split.

I am sure you (and everyone else) knows this but want to mention it anyway..... in this day/age of 24/7 twitter, social media, other internet stuff, even 1 week is like an aeon, especially as it gets close to election time. A lot of ground can be covered (or lost) in a relatively short period of time.

Good start with getting PMK and MDMK in the bag. Add KMK, DMDK and some more local caste parties and get good candidates and with good focus and campaigning bjp can very well snag 5 or more seats.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections

Apparently all major cities have this creeping covert privatization where the Boards/Authorities work only as an stamping authority. Everything is being done by private operators. There used to be a lot of pressure to turn all this overt. However Congress was adept at blaming it all on the underdogs.

The main reason political power is needed is that the political patronage is to be distributed in that manner. The tanker mafia implies that this is where they want to hit. The CAG audit implies that this is where they want to hit - 'Look CAG said Coal Ghotala and you believed that, now it says Electricity Distribution Ghotala why must you not believe that'.

The reality is like an onion multilayered. The corruption is off course there. But that has nothing to do with people getting overcharged. Comparatively they are undercharged. Socially they are undercharged and so are they economically undercharged, environmentally too. And the excuse of the overcharge is only to push utilities into a pliant mode.

The central problem is that the whole generation + distribution thing is dependent of government controls full time. A covert Licence Permit Raj. And whoever controls government will execute ghotalas while getting a pliant babu (CAG+Direct Taxes+Indirect Taxes+Justice Delivery) to do the bidding of their masters, implicating others doing the same. Well others are doing the same because those who have the power have astro-turfed the field hockey game in their favor.

Over all this calls for more governance and less government, path that can only be tread by a serious mind able to seek cooperation instead of distributing largesses. Can't also be done by somebody who expects miracles in double quick time throwing big words and big promises. This calls for a study of the accumulated karma which as you know is a .... At the brass tacks level I suspect this calls for a leadership that understands flows of benefits and associated risks. Able to unlock a new benefits architecture and execute strikes at the right places of extreme risks in the old order. Enter NaMo.

RajeshA: you had asked about some mythology connections either on this or NaMo thread. A couple of related analogies that might help gain some perspective of AAP/Kejriwal:

a) Puncturing the IIT-ian bubble: read this Panchatantra story (4 Brahmins & a Lion) on why education is inferior to common sense:

http://epanchatantra.com/PT/index.asp?No=116

A quotable quote that summarizes the moral of the story
Scholarship is less than sense;
Therefore seek intelligence:
Senseless scholars in their pride
Made a lion; then they died.
I snipped out the 2nd sentence of that quote & tweeted the rest. The 4 Brahmins are the so called "educated" Delhi voters, who dont realize that the creature they are creating will one day devour them

b) Puncturing the "simplicity" bubble: Simplicity of Kejriwal = "Pocket-empty-but-heart-is-full" style poverty glorification of 60s & 70s movies (Maana apni jeb se fakeer hein; Phir bhi yaaron dil ke ham ameer hein). Raj Kapoor, MGR etc all followed the same script. Its the hard-working, poor worker with a heart of gold, fighting against the class-enemy industrialist or zamindar. A paradigm like that is a disastrous recipe for an aspiring India with the world's largest youth workforce

Good start with getting PMK and MDMK in the bag. Add KMK, DMDK and some more local caste parties and get good candidates and with good focus and campaigning bjp can very well snag 5 or more seats.
tfwiw.Gus Saar has robust common sense. So could be a bellweather of things on ground.

DMK is wooing him with 7 LS seats and one RS seat. PMK is having a meeting today to announce its decision. Post polls I can't think of any party in NDA camp in TN uncomfortable with ADMK giving support post poll.

He doesn't seem to either. His decisions are likely based on amount of alcohol in his blood.
