Earlier this year, he ended a 17-year alliance with the BJP, and attributed the break-up to the party's decision to elevate Mr Modi to top man.

The outcome of the state elections has also reportedly convinced the Bihar Chief Minister to rule out an alliance with the Congress for the general elections.
Nitish is hoping for turd front.

This IMHO is the 2nd biggest gain of 4-0 BJP win. It forces potential CON allies to rethink on allying with a sinking party and in so doing prevent consolidation of votes against BJP. It opens up all kinds of pre-poll and post-poll options for the BJP.

The secondary but equally important impact of 4-0 BJP victory saar. Will at least force a rethink among regional satraps on pre-poll alliances with CON. Most will prefer to keep their options open for post-poll alliances.

http://news.oneindia.in/india/delhi-election-results-miracle-thackeray-praises-kejriwal-against-modi-1355851.html

Mumbai, Dec 9: Uddhav Thackeray, in his editorial in Shiv Sena mouthpiece on Monday, Dec 9, praised Arvind Kejriwal and chose to underrate the notion over Narendra Modi wave in the country. Shiv Sena chief Thackeray's statement on Kejriwal surfaced just a day after the latter's historic debut in Indian politics with Delhi election. With a magnificent numbers, Kejriwal's party -- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to win 28 seats. Kejriwal even defeated former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit contesting from New Delhi constituency. Citing AAP's emergence in the political scenario, Thackeray wrote, "A strong young man called Kejriwal successfully fought a strong challenge from Congress and Narendra Modi." Continuing his praise for Kejriwal, Thackeray also added, "this (AAP) challenge is not limited to Delhi. It's a challenge for all political parties across the country." Shiv Sena is one among the oldest allies of BJP in NDA. Now, Thackeray's statement in the editorial may irk BJP as it seems to be underlying Modi's impact on aam aadmi of the country. Kejriwal and his party's magnificent performance in the Delhi assembly poll did not only jerk allies of opposition but impressed UPA allies too. Jammu Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah on Sunday turned up to micro-blogging site Twitter saying, "Notes to self for 2014 never underestimate the underdog/newcomer with a fresh face and message." Even Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi too admitted that he has many things to learn from AAP. IN his speech after poll debacle, Rahul said, "The Aam Aadmi Party involved a lot of non-traditional people and we will learn from that."

Uddhav only looks like a lose cannon here. But he is right the hustler has infact upstaged the regular calculations and the challenge across the country bit, seems more like a cry for help in Maharashtra. AAP will most likely land up in Bombay & Banglore next.

I just hope that BJP can maintain focus on both the Congress and its B-Teams. IMO this can only be achieved if BJP starts its own campaigning at a mass scale.

Has AAP adopted the Congress High Command culture? The decision of party high command will be foisted on the MLA elects. Why are the MLA elects not allowed to take their own decision in a democratic way? How does that make AAP different from Congress when it is following the Congress model?

15:38 Modi factor doomed BJP in Delhi: Nitish: The result of Assembly polls in four states was 'anti-Congress', Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said today but rubbished Modi-factor for BJP's victory which was evident in its "below par" performance in Delhi.

"There is no doubt that the results in Assembly elections in four states are anti-Congress. But there is no reason for BJP to jump in joy.

"There is no wave in favour of BJP... The results show that BJP performance will be dismal in the Lok Sabha elections," Kumar told reporters in the Assembly premises.

"The gamble BJP took (by appointing Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate) has doomed it... Delhi is the test case of this," said Kumar, who led JD(U) to severe ties with the BJP after 17 years over the elevation of Narendra Modi as party's prime ministerial nominee.

AAP high command/AK coterie/whatever were not prepared for this situation. They might have prepared elaborate plans on how to gherao ministers while sitting in opposition or how to go about passing lokpal but not this situation which needs deft political manoeuvring skills.

sounds like AJ-ji has just sprung the monkey trap.

we have a prior example of a outfit that came to power with massive public support, but soon feel into decay and corruption with the taste of money, splintered and is not much of a force now - one arm survives, the breakaway faction just vanished once its principal passed away. - the AGP.

prafulla mahanta lives most in self-exile in delhi now I read somewhere.

Janlokpal is long-term dilemma for AAP but how are they going to implement a simple promise like reducing the electricity bill by 50% in 30/60/90/<..> days? I haven't read their manifesto so substitute the appropriate promise period.

It is such simplistic promises that is going to kill them before Lok Sabha where they hope to make an impact. Electricity bill is easy to understand for Aam admi so difficult to fool him on that .. no? That is when the hollow sloganeering will be exposed and why government formation is being avoided by Farzi.

Bigger problem with AAP is something I now saw scrolling in TV as I walked past pantry in office. 'BJP and CON are same- AK'. This message is being repeated. It will directly damage NaMo's campaigns in metros.

But isn't one slogan repeated many times gets boring, BJP already started attacking them by asking to form the government and they seems to be running away from it, because they know it is difficult to fulfill the promises.

Excellent article.

Simple thing like this will be lost on Congress and others trying the subsidy-secularism tricks.

http://www.firstpost.com/politics/verdict-2013-the-rise-and-fall-of-sonias-dole-onomics-1276873.html

Verdict 2013 will be read differently by different parties, but underlying it all will be one simple message which no one will acknowledge in public: the days of buying votes with taxpayer money are coming to an end. Politicians have to learn to taper doles, or else they will be destroying the seedcorn of future growth and their own legitimacy.

Every politician believes that one more dole cannot hurt and anyway voters won't countenance a cut in their subsidies. Sure, but that's because politicians do not talk about what voters lose when they seek freebies. If you ask a voter if she wants rice at Rs 3 a kg she will surely say yes; even a Birla or Tata would not be averse to receiving super-subsidised rice if its being handed around. But if you ask the same voter of she would trade Rs 3 rice for Rs 10 rice, provided the streets are made safer for her daughters, she will surely weigh the benefits. The Congress defeat lies embedded in this hidden voter realisation that by getting freebies, the government may be robbing them of something else that may be dearer - self-respect, safety or faster job or income growth. Arvind Kejriwal's good showing has little to do with his promise of 50 percent cuts in power tariffs, and more with the frustration ordinary people feel when dealing with government.

The fourth why: why is governance more important than doles? Answer, governance involves many things, including less corruption, making things work, generating jobs, and livelihoods. Sometimes it may include doles for the really needy. When faced with the choice of doles as against high inflation and little possibility of good job options, people were not interested in the Congress telling them they needed more doles and more free stuff.

The fifth why: why are people unhappy even with a dole? After all, who says no to free stuff? The answer lies in human psychology. Doles demean. Work ennobles. No one likes to be the recipient all the time, for pride lies in being able to fend for yourself.

i am telling you. Modi should pound this message JOBS, PRICE RISE, DIGNITY

I hope sane heads prevail in BJP for a change by ensuring no re-election in delhi takes place b4 Loksabha Elections & in doing so they should not indulge in horse trading . Governor rule is the best outcome for BJP & AAP forming government with INC support is 2nd best option for BJP . Worst is re-election as it will be a disaster for BJP . Delhi BJP knows how much it had to shell out even in its 'secure' seats ( in decent middle class neighbourhoods not slums !) .
In assembly elections , winning margin of less than 2000. is considered a narrow margin .

I've started a blog now and put "Conspiracy Theory" as a blog post titled "Sonia's Retirement Plan".

I've also put out a few tweets on it as well. [1] [2] [3]

What I am hoping to achieve is that Arvind Kejriwal is exposed, and the Congress workers and leaders themselves lose faith in Sonia Gandhi as someone with Congress's interests at heart.

If the message can be put out effectively right now in the aftermath of these state elections then Congress would be dumping the dynasty ASAP.

So please retweet the tweets and share with others through other means as well!

If AAP does not form a Govt. BJP should go ahead and form it and set out an agenda of series of reforms. set up committees and even invite Kujliwal on them.

Kujliwal has to pull down BJP. If he uses communal tag to pull it down, let him.

Absolutely not, BJP mustn't even touch the CM chair with a bamboo stick. It's for the people of Delhi to make up there mind for who they want as there CM, Khujliwal or Dr. Harshvardhan. BJP will walk into a well set mine field if it tries to make a govt. being clearly short of majority. Go for re-election and rule if you have a majority.

I for one want this Khujliwal to become CM of Delhi and watch the ensuing fun. No matter what BJP does it won't be good enough to move people away from congi (P)AAP than a five year rule by them. With all the rookies in their ranks and a loony as their leader there is no possibility of (P)AAP having any capability to give good governance. Being a shouting a-hole is one thing and being a leader is another. All the common man rising up to change the system in a single day brouhaha happens in bollywood films, this is reality.

It is amazing amusing that educated and "class" people of Delhi can't distinguish between real leader and a farzi. More is, they are not decisive even for farzi. In any other state farzi wouldn't have crossed even 5 seats. The people of even BIMARU states do better job at that. Recent trend is to give full majority for the most deserving CM candidate at almost everywhere else. But not in delhi where people are supposed to be more exposed to politics and politicians.

People might argue that farzi was given greater air time on MSM than he deserved that's how he won. But even pappu has been given way more air time than his aukat. Same for termite queen. Yes majority people of India are disillusioned. In fact almost all seats visited by these duo were lost. Clearly the voters out of delhi are smarter. Now I will not be surprised if cong comes back into power dramatically if the re-election is carried out. You just can't trust their sanity.

That will be the target during re-election.

Also, need to include those seats that BJP won narrowly

Saw his interview with Burkha yesterday where he mentioned specifically that "Both BJP and Congress practice politics of communalism and corruption" (he was speaking in Hindi, I'm paraphrasing). Burkha was enticing him with offers of indirect Congress support which he said they couldn't accept. Their entire campaign is basically an extension of what is a common refrain for people (especially urban voters) that "all politicians are same onlee". Best way to take them down is for the BJP to somehow expose their links with the Congress and show their supporters how hollow their claims are. That would wipe out their vote base overnight. Forcing them to form a government with congress support is also effective. Jaitley's open challenge to that effect is welcome although I think K-wal and co. are too smart to fall for it.
