The Sindh Story by K.R. Malkani

The book recounts the story of the Sindh and the valour of the Sindhis, right from Harrappa civlisation to Alexander's defeat by Sindhis to the invasion of Mohd. Bin Qasim to the modern Jiye Sindh movement. A light and fast read.

Check out Bangalore Suryanarain Row's book on the same subject: A History of Vijayanagar: The Never To Be Forgotten Empire

He takes some contrary positions to that of R.Sewell.

Ramana: I read the last chapter. Cholas and Vijayanagaram finds prominence.

Folks who would like to read Dharampal's 'Beautiful Tree' can use this Link.... Punch in your name and email address, a link will be sent to you that you can use to download the book. Great book, unfortunately there are some blank pages containing some tabular data. But the entire text seems to be there.

Kashmir: The Storm Center of the World

A book by Hindu nationalist Balraj Madhok, a professor at Srinagar. He was there in Kashmir when the tribal invasion took place. The book is an eye-witness account of what happened in Kashmir and how it was saved and the bunglings our friend Nehru (the "Blunderbuss of India") committed and how he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
http://ikashmir.net/storm/index.html

An extract from Chapter 7:
I met Pt. Nehru at Satwari aerodrome and told him about the critical situation in Mirpur and requested him to order immediate reinforcement of Indian troops to the beleagured tour. I was amazed at his response. He flew into a rage and shouted: "Talk to Sheikh Sahib - talk to Sheikh Sahib. ' I then told him that Sheikh Sahib was indifferent to the plight of the Jammu region, and that he alone could do something to save the people of Mirpur. But all my entreaties fell on deaf ears. No reinforcement was sent to Mirpur.

Mirpur fell on the 25th of November 1947, when the enemy broke open the back gate of the walled town by heavy gunfire. The state troops and local officers then lost heart and retreated even before the town could be evacuated by the civilians. The people, therefore, began to run in terror. The fight soon became a rout and the rout a massacre. Hardly two thousand people out of about 25 thousand living at that time in the ill-fated town managed to reach Jhangar in safety. The rest were ruthlessly butchered. The number of women abducted from there ran into thousands. Most of them were paraded and then sold in the bazaars of Jehlum, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. The barbarities of the Pakistan troops and civilians on these hapless women who were kept for sometime in Alibeg camp before their dispersal to different towns put to shame the worst orgies of rape and violence associated with the hordes of Ghengiz Khan and Nadir Shah.

The loot obtained by the Pakistanis from these towns, especially from Mirpur, went into crores. The floor of every house in Mirpur was dug by raiders in search of hoarded treasures.
Apparently, that lout Nehru had instructed Indian army commanders to take orders from Sheikh Abdullah for their Kashmir operations. Abdullah, of course, prevented the army from reaching the Hindu areas to provide assistance against the Pakistani raiders who were raping and abducting Hindu women. It is my belief that when Hindu leftists and "secularists" rule, it is the women who are most at risk when the chicken come home to roost.

There is so much information buried in literature written in various Indian languages but unfortunately is not translated into language that majority today understands. Looks like a good start to what Shiv said about Hindu narration would be to translate this literature in English so that it will reach the masses quickly.

I remember reading so many books in Marathi about Indian history during my childhood and also remember how they inculcated a burning desire inside me but alas I cannot share much of it since it is not translated. I am trying to find a complete version of "Saha Soneri Paane" book translated into English so that it can be posted here. It would be great to re read it after many many years.

Apologies for posting this remark here as the thread is meant only for links to ebooks. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

I have been going thru some of the books that you guys are talking about. I have a suggestion/request to make:

I have a 3yr old, but given the BS that is taught in our Indian schools (Romila Thapar et al), and given that I believe in Vedic Dharma and all, I was wondering what do some of the parents of young kids amongst you doing in order to educate your kids with the right information about our history, religion, culture and Dharma to mention a few subjects?

Probably, some of you may even have a list of books that you believe are important for the kids at different ages to read that are outside the academic curriculum. If so, can you list them here? if not, given that I do not have enough info about India myself (a CBSE Dhimmi), can someone help by suggesting books that are good? :-o

BTW I am thinking both short term and long term.

Maybe we could properly tag these lists in order to help every other parent out there.
