Preeja and Kavita finish 2nd and 3rd and in the process they have wiped off their personal best by more than 30 minutes.

Yes, 30 seconds got too excited. This success of the middle distance runners can be attributed to the Belarusian coach, who is 60+ years old and has dictatorial ways of training. It sure is paying off. Here is an article on him.

India misses out a medal 4X100 mens by hair breadth. With a smoother baton exchange we could have finished second.

Renjith Maheswary of India has jumped a 16.76 to go into the lead in the triple-jump event. Renjith was ecstatic after that jump. So was the Indian contingent cheering him along.

wasn't aggressive enough in the last jump. he jumped from at least 6-7 inches behind the foul line, whatever it is called.

well done to the girls !

more importantly, when do we host the asiads ? we should host the asiads a couple of times before we even think of bidding for the olympics.

Yeah he wasnt doing the line properly. he seem to be jumping from behind the line too often , probably why he lost that extra distance. Maybe he could have got a silver. He did a 16.76 jump so he was capable of it

the chinese won with 16.94. 6 inches = 15 cm. he could easily have had silver. once he had the 16.76 he should have risked a foul to cross 17.

62 is the overall tally, pulling us to the 7th position. Chinese Taipei has the same number of golds and silver as us, they have 5 more bronzes. There are two boxing games to be decided - where two medals are assured? 6th place?

hurrah, we are now @ 6th place. Chinese Taipei has ONLY one more event on 27th - for a potential medal. Men's Marathon. With a gold or silver assured for India, India will stay ahead of CT. So I guess we will end up 6th. Next Asiad we ought to be @ 4th going past Iran and Kazakhstan - should be achievable.

There is a definite overall improvement in Indian sports across disciplines and the work being put in by many agencies seems to be slowly paying off.... It isnt the earlier case of one-off athletes being the lone hope. Every event has multiple Indians reaching the quarters/semis quite regularly which is great news.

But, the most amazing thing (for moi ) is that we bettered the previous haul with the shooters contributing nearly zilch which is very, very heartening news!!!

Sum: I agree. We have got 4 golds in Athletics (1 men and 3 women). In Athletics, there are 11 women who have medals (includes 3 women from the 4x400 relay).

reasonably happy with the performance. shooting wasn't going to be easy because china is a top shooting nation but I'm a little disappointed with wrestling.

Sushil Kumar opted out of Asiad! - another Gold.
Cricket - Another Gold.
Hockey - Bad Luck (losing to Malaysia)?

Lots of silvers and Bronzes could next time be Golds. This only shows the bias of Chinese Referee's (especially Boxing).

The problem that we had in previous years was

Anybody remember the Advertisement by Zee TV where Sports minister decides to send her 100KG girl to 100M race but opts out when Zee TV reporter finds out?

Corruption is the biggest issue! Where sports ministry would send their relatives to all these exotic places instead of "Good Sportsmen/women".

Great show by Indian boxers. We got 2 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronze in the Mens category compared to 2 bronze medals from last Asian games. For the next Asian games we will be the team to beat. It is heartening to see the kind of depth we have in Boxing today. 3 of the boxers from common wealth games including Manoj Kumar the gold medal winner did not travel to the Asian games and nobody noticed. Remember Akhil Kumar's cousin Jitendar who made it to last Olympic quarter finals, could not find a place in the team for either commonwealth games or Asian games. Boxing is going to be one sport where we can expect medals in the London Olympics.

The other being Shooting and Archery. These are two sports where the performance on a given day matters a lot.Though we did not perform too well in Shooting in the Asian games we have four world class shooters in Gagan Narang, Ranjan Sodhi, Manavjit Sandhu and Tejaswani Sawant all of them have won world championships and Ranjan, Tejaswani and Gagan are current world record holders.

Similarly with Archery where we have been winning medals consistently at world championships and I would not be surprised if we end up in the medals at the Olympics. Similar to Shooting in this sport performance on a given day can put anyone at the top. Tarundeep who won the Silver in Mens singles was not even in the Indian team and Rahul Bannerji who recently won gold at world championships gave a very average performance.

Sidd, we were up against china and SoKo, the very tops in archery. asian games archery ~ olympics archery, in that perspective our performance has been damn good.

Exactly!, and in women's semis we were leading SOKO well into the last round. Similary Tarundeep beat one of the Korean on the way to the finals. With a little luck today we can beat any one in the world in both Men's and Women's category.
