Valluri wins gold - this is confirmed by DDM indian media. All the major news papers' website displaying this as first gold medal.

BALLURI Srinivasa is OFFICIALLY in No 7 now, and Sukhan Dey in No9. World champion Wu still hasn't started his first lift of Clean & Jerk. Indian media and just indian media alone awarded BALLURI and Sukhan gold and silver.

Des is doing good in Tennis somdev has won two sets so far.

The table tennis winners of CWG have all given up. Sad!

The SDRE non-commonwealth nations are proving to be far more challenging and tough compared to TFTA CWG nations.

International cricket, meanwhile, was played on Chinese soil for the first time, with the hosts crushing Malaysia by 55 runs in a women's game.

China scored 116 for 6 in their 20 overs and Malaysia never threatened to reach their target in front of a disappointingly sparse crowd at the 4,800-capacity Guanggong Cricket Stadium.

Officials claimed earlier this week that all tickets for the women's cricket tournament had sold out.

"I don't know how far we will go in the competition but we will try our best to win," said Chinese skipper Wang Meng.

Cricket's induction at the Games came after the International Cricket Council identified China as one of the major new markets along with the United States for the development of the sport.

I have a good childhood mate crewing with Farokh Tarapore. Tarapore is the top ranked skipper at the games.

since china was #1 in last olympics, they alone will set the bar and pose a tough challenge in a lot of sports in asiad. add to that some south korea, thailand, malay and japanese + the leftovers and offshots of the old soviet system in places like CAR states and mongolia, plus some arab nations in running and such...asian games is a much higher std than cwg. nothing wrong in trying hard and atleast bettering personal marks set in cwg.

We're in fourth position right now I think and thats where we'll finish in all probabbility which would be much better than the 7th we managed last time.

2nd in CWG from 4th and 4th in Asiad from 7th (Inshallah) , thats a sign of visible improvement.

China has refused to allow entry to five of the eight Indian horses — equestrian is a rider-horse event — saying the animals have failed mandatory disease checks. Incidentally, Chinese riders stand to gain the most if India is ousted from the field.
The disease for which the Indian horses did not have clearances — Venezuelan Equine Encephalomyelitis (VEE) — is prevalent in the US and some Western countries, and has never been reported in India, or even in Asia

Very unlikely that we'll finish fourth.

Right now China's running away as expected (they won all the 10 golds in the new category created called dancesports!).
SoKo and Japan will follow, and then probably one or two of the Central Asian nations.

typical underhandedness. even during beijing 2008 bindra reported that someone had tampered with his sights when he had gone for a loo break. his main competitor was a chinese shooter.

we have won a bronze in gymnastics floor exercises (!) and a bronze in men 50m butterfly (!)

shows that we have the people to compete in "tfta" sports like these given the $$ and coaching.

Does anyone have a list of Medals and the corresponding sports in which they got the medals. That would help in truly analysing the sporting spirit of countries.
Just saying that Chini/SKo/Jap got 50/40/30 medals etc wont tell everything.

Example, As Vasu mentioned above, the chinis got all the 10 gold medals in newly created "dancesports".

we got a couple medals in rowing.

overall we are making progress in a wide area but its getting overshadowed by china's soviet/GDR style command performance...10% growth vs 8% growth onree.

but with a shooting range coming online even in distant state capital like guwahati, *some* reach is being achieved upto state level where formerly only training in dilli or bangalore would work. cost of living and upkeep is cheaper in smaller towns.

Asian Games seem to me something like a European+Africa Games with EU as a single country.

China (EU): dominate the games with >60% golds;
Other North Eastern Asian Countries (Some independent European Countries ): they are small in size but actively fighting;
The others (African countries): there are some stars but general speaking, participation is everything.

and rowing was supposed to be another tfta sport where only oxbridge/ivy league/east german dopers would do well. heh heh.

but sadly Saina lost yesterday in 3 sets to a HK player ending the indian hopes in badminton.
