Sonia Chanu wins gold (or is it DDM again?)

Valluri wins gold - this is confirmed by DDM indian media. All the major news papers' website displaying this as first gold medal.

Jai Ho etc for DDM

It's kind of funny that indian media didn't do any homework before claiming gold medal, and seems they have no clue of what they reported.

Now Wu is gold, Cha silver, and Setiadi from Indonesia bronze. The only thing left is whether Wu can break his own Asian record.

BALLURI No8 and Sukhan No10. That's confirmed.

Man, you're so funny :rotfl:

BALLURI Srinivasa is OFFICIALLY in No 7 now, and Sukhan Dey in No9. World champion Wu still hasn't started his first lift of Clean & Jerk. Indian media and just indian media alone awarded BALLURI and Sukhan gold and silver.
I dont mind accepting our media making mistakes but dont make personal comment. (Like, man you're so funny) etc.

First time youg government has got chance to give transparent briefing to the world.

Now stop going personal and post objectively.

Looks desi guys are doing better in snooker and badminton and only P kashyap is somewhat in control.

on second thought, the games updates are better than desi updates of CWG.

Des is doing good in Tennis somdev has won two sets so far.

The table tennis winners of CWG have all given up. Sad!

The SDRE non-commonwealth nations are proving to be far more challenging and tough compared to TFTA CWG nations.

International cricket, meanwhile, was played on Chinese soil for the first time, with the hosts crushing Malaysia by 55 runs in a women's game.

China scored 116 for 6 in their 20 overs and Malaysia never threatened to reach their target in front of a disappointingly sparse crowd at the 4,800-capacity Guanggong Cricket Stadium.

Officials claimed earlier this week that all tickets for the women's cricket tournament had sold out.

"I don't know how far we will go in the competition but we will try our best to win," said Chinese skipper Wang Meng.

Cricket's induction at the Games came after the International Cricket Council identified China as one of the major new markets along with the United States for the development of the sport.

Games sailing schedule starts today. My friend has been preparing very hard for the games. All the best.

since china was #1 in last olympics, they alone will set the bar and pose a tough challenge in a lot of sports in asiad. add to that some south korea, thailand, malay and japanese + the leftovers and offshots of the old soviet system in places like CAR states and mongolia, plus some arab nations in running and such...asian games is a much higher std than cwg. nothing wrong in trying hard and atleast bettering personal marks set in cwg.

Just one gold :-( so far? I hope this is only a slow start. This is an ample indication why the old world of nations - CW needs to be consigned to the history books. It is Asia in the 21st century baby.

What is the BRF prediction for the medals tally?

We're in fourth position right now I think and thats where we'll finish in all probabbility which would be much better than the 7th we managed last time.

2nd in CWG from 4th and 4th in Asiad from 7th (Inshallah) , thats a sign of visible improvement.

For disease never seen in India, China denies Indian horses entry to Asiad
China has refused to allow entry to five of the eight Indian horses — equestrian is a rider-horse event — saying the animals have failed mandatory disease checks. Incidentally, Chinese riders stand to gain the most if India is ousted from the field.
The disease for which the Indian horses did not have clearances — Venezuelan Equine Encephalomyelitis (VEE) — is prevalent in the US and some Western countries, and has never been reported in India, or even in Asia

Very unlikely that we'll finish fourth.

Right now China's running away as expected (they won all the 10 golds in the new category created called dancesports!).
SoKo and Japan will follow, and then probably one or two of the Central Asian nations.

typical underhandedness. even during beijing 2008 bindra reported that someone had tampered with his sights when he had gone for a loo break. his main competitor was a chinese shooter.

shows that we have the people to compete in "tfta" sports like these given the $$ and coaching.

Does anyone have a list of Medals and the corresponding sports in which they got the medals. That would help in truly analysing the sporting spirit of countries.
Just saying that Chini/SKo/Jap got 50/40/30 medals etc wont tell everything.

Example, As Vasu mentioned above, the chinis got all the 10 gold medals in newly created "dancesports".

dancesports ? WTF ?

Everyone here are looking at the medals tally but is there any one here is looking at the games in which the medals are won ? That would be a very interesting comparision.

Sure, just go to here:

http://www.gz2010.cn/info/ENG_ENG/ZZ/ZZ ... @@ENG.html

Click on the country you want to see, then click on medalists.

For example, China's gold count is: 13 in Gymnastics, 2 in Badminton, 2 in Billiards, 4 in Canoe/Kayak, 1 in Chess, 5 in Cycling, 10 in Dancesports, 2 in Judo, 14 in Shooting, 1 in Soft Tennis, 22 in Swimming, 2 in Table Tennis, 1 in Taekwondo, 1 in Tennis, 1 in Water Polo, 7 in Weightlifting, 9 in Wushu.

South Korea at number two has: 2 in Gymnastics, 1 in Bowling, 2 in Cycling, 2 in Equestrian, 6 in Judo, 10 in Shooting, 2 in Soft Tennis, 4 in Swimming.

we got a couple medals in rowing.

overall we are making progress in a wide area but its getting overshadowed by china's soviet/GDR style command performance...10% growth vs 8% growth onree.

but with a shooting range coming online even in distant state capital like guwahati, *some* reach is being achieved upto state level where formerly only training in dilli or bangalore would work. cost of living and upkeep is cheaper in smaller towns.

Asian Games seem to me something like a European+Africa Games with EU as a single country.

China (EU): dominate the games with >60% golds;
Other North Eastern Asian Countries (Some independent European Countries ): they are small in size but actively fighting;
The others (African countries): there are some stars but general speaking, participation is everything.

but sadly Saina lost yesterday in 3 sets to a HK player ending the indian hopes in badminton.
