Jhapads by one Mr Vamsee
It should come as no surprise to anyone therefore that the numerous earnest and passionate appeals to Indian voters to reject Mr. Modi that populated the august pages of The Guardian, The New York Times, and The Economist in recent months probably had very little meaning for voters in India. To know why, it is worth recalling what else these publications had to say about Hindus, Hinduism, and India in the last few years, before they took up their outraged positions on behalf of India's supposedly vanishing secularism.

The Economist once described a holy Hindu deity, the Shiva Lingam at Amarnath, as a "penis-shaped lump of ice."

The Guardian once lampooned the passing of a revered Hindu guru, who probably did more to uphold India's secular, multi-religious fabric than any intellectual or activist ever did, and derided his teachings as simplistic "peace, love and vegetarianism."

The New York Times published a spate of op-ed pieces after the 2008 Pakistani terrorist attacks blaming India and Hindu nationalism. Not to mention its serious advocacy for a Hinduism "expert" who compares ancient Hindus to Nazis in her book and unilateral exclusion of dissenting opinion.

With this sort of a track record, why would take anyone take them seriously on Narendra Modi either?

What Rahul Gandhi should learn from repeated defeats

I am posting this article, not because I am interested in shenanigans of Rahul, but because I have learnt something about our honest PM, MMS.
here's that story about when Chandra Shekhar came back to a deserted home after resigning as PM in 1991.

The only person who was waiting for him was Manmohan Singh, who pleaded with him to sign papers to appoint him as head of the University Grants Commission. Chandra Shekhar told him brusquely that he couldn't, because he was no longer PM.

Singh told him, no problem, he had pre-dated the papers in the file. He got the job.
Narasimha Rao appointed Singh as finance minister after IG Patel turned down the job in 1991. Sonia made him the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and later PM. But even as PM, Singh preferred power over responsibility.

pleasure.

At first glance of ECI site on Punjab, I see BJP only contested in places where they can make some reasonable weight in terms of votes. So, the only narrow place there was Amristar. But then the loss there was clear due to cp Amrindar more connected and near to voters than jaitley.

people were disappointed with SAD-BJP, point should be noted! this is the reason AAPturds were able to inroad, and well assisted from nearby cross border logic.

fielding a non-local must be done very careful! unless it is like say, vadodara used to re-electing from Modi's support within his own turf!

I would say, the spread BJP could not make earlier to Modi, spoke much more than after Modi wave. If one remove Modi wave, BJP stands stark naked with their larger black hole in terms of methods and coverage patterns, local inroads and how they need to learn from congress to influence every muncipal, worker levels to establish the party at places where they have never ventured.

lot of work ahead for workers.. with an org like RSS as background, they could copy some of their techniques.. combined with modi name, they can re-establish lost places.

time is ripe now to act to correct the party.

Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting today. I hope the younger Congoons realize that if they want to stay out of the political wilderness for the next 15 years, the time to revolt against Pappu and his Mummy is today. Modi is no ordinary paanch saal ka mehmaan. He cannot be dealt with in the "business as usual" style.

Few observation on Muslim voting pattern in just concluded LS polls. Secular-socialist trying to hijack the narrative

While a miniscule no of individual Muslims have voted for BJP hoping for better delivery of public goods, Muslims enmasse voting continues

Enmasse Muslim voting was countered by a combination of United spectrum of Hindu votes build on narrative of development&secular splintering

As @5Forty3 put it United spectrum of Hindu votes, build on development aspiration &not on any communal mobilisation, the defining phenomenon

United Spectrum of Hindu Votes is more sustainable than say the ephemeral unity achieved on a divisive issue like Temple movement

Clearly for BJP is lesson is not to attempt any muslim outreach but keep relentless focus on delivering public good

nageshks wrote:Punjab is divided roughly into 3 regions. Region west of the Beas, and north of the Sutlej (region is called Majha, I think). This region has 3 seats (Khadoor Sahib, Amritsar and Gurdaspur). This region was among the worst hit by the Khalistan insurgency, IIRC. AAP has only a marginal presence in this region, with the best performance coming in Khadoor Sahib (old Taran Taran), with about 1.5 lakh votes. In the other two, AAP vote share is less than 1 lakh votes.

In the Beas-Sutlej doab, which has 2 seats (Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur), the AAP is making its presence felt strongly. In both seats it has 2 lakh+ votes, which is very creditable.

The last region is the region south of the Sutlej (called Malwa, I think), which has 8 seats (Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Anandpur Sahib (old Ropar), Fatehgarh Sahib (old Sirhind), Sangrur and Patiala, the AAP has done very well in the east, but less so towards the west (towards the Pakistani border). This region is traditionally the Akali stronghold, and particularly towards the south, west, and east, is much more rural in its character. In the two western seat of Ferozepur and Bathinda, the AAP has got <1 lakh votes in Bathinda, and just over 1 lakh votes in Ferozepur. In the north eastern and northern seats of Ludhiana and Anandpur Sahib respectively, the AAP has done well, getting 2.5 lakh (Ludhiana) and 3 lakh (Anandpur Sahib). It is in the southern, eastern and central seats of Sangrur, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala that the AAP has performed superbly, winning all four. The AAP infection is particularly serious in the two central seats of Faridkot and Sangrur, where the AAP has won 4 lakh+ and 5 lakh+ votes, winning very handsomely. Can someone point to what has caused this tumour growth in the centre of Malwa? What particular failure of the Akalis has done this?
It would be interesting if we have the vote-share of parties in Punjab, and more specifically these constituencies, by Hindu/Sikh, rural/urban & caste split. Is AAP support primarily Sikh / Dalit / rural ?

Separately, Nagesh ji and Murali Ravi ji - what is your opinion about having a separate Electoral Analysis thread which would be permanent (all current election threads are temporary) only for detailed analysis of this sort which can be accessed on an ongoing basis? I am looking for one thread that can promote deeper insight & analytics into regional electoral trends across India.

About Baba Ramdev, this is what I said in 2011. My Pranaams to him.

http://forums.bharat-rakshak.com/viewto ... 2#p1107632
The fact that genuine sanyasi like BR had to indulge in "worldly affairs" show the extent of loss, India has had. When the Grihasthas and Brahmacharis have failed their duty, the sanyasis have to come out and get "involved" in an idea.

One has to understand under what conditions, one takes up sanyasa. It is one of the most dire vows where one has to do the Shraadha-karma (symbolic funeral rites) of oneself. People may laugh on it, but I have known personally many such Fanne-Khans who returned back to home in today's secure world, as they could not withstand the idea of one's own "Tarpana". It is a complete formatting of thinking procedure and painful and forcible severing of one's linkage not only with family, caste but one's identity. Narendranath Dutt becomes Vivekananda. Ramkishan Yadav becomes ramdev. Aptitudes of both may or may not be comparable, SV is dead, BRD is still alive and can do many things ahead, who knows. But commitment is definitely comparable and commendable. The age when Narendranath Dutt was reading books and joining in Brahmo discussions with his father, BRD was pulling plough in farm with is illiterate father and suffering paralysis. The formative years of SV and BRD are totally different, so are the eras in which they exist and also their deeds. So, comparison is moot point.

The fact that a "Jeeva" went so far had to return back to "bondages" tells us that there is something terribly wrong with India and Hindu society today. Western education might scoff this way of looking towards life. We all are educated in that school. yet, some of us, become MUTUs and start ridiculing this sacrifice creates disconnect. The DIE refuse to accept that this is sacrifice.

Yes, there is corruption in every aspect, including sanyasa. But, there are people who genuinely indulge in Daana. When an "ashrama" which upholds everything that traditional India stands for starts attracting money from people who genuinely wish to donate for the cause of "Sanskriti Rakshana", the DIE type start calling it "Business Empire". This is painful to all those of us who are not so deracinated and have maintained the roots.. The DIE fail to see and understand that not everything is business.

Baba is not economist. Baba is not supposed to be economist. But he commands trust of many who are reputed economists. People like Vishwabandhu Gupta, Rajiv Dixit and many others are not stupid jerks. They know what they are talking about. These suggestions about foreign banks, ordinance to nationalize bank accounts are not administrative impossibilities as it is made out to be. It is something which is doable. At least it is something which can be argued upon. Yet, you have seen the behaviour of Regime and Regime sympathisers.. They are singularly dismissive of BRD.

The people who came out to support BRD were people drawn from all classes. The people who donated money to BRD to form his 1100 crore trust came from all classes. They did so because they believed that something "good" can happen through this institution known as "ramdev". And a lot of good is happening. It would have continued to happen so, if politicians and policy makers of India were doing their duty.

I don't think BRD has any political ambitions for his own. People attacking him, attack not only his lack of knowledge, but also his sincerity. With all due respect to AH and kejariwal and civil society (an oxymoron in itself), how many people's respect do these guys command. I have been seeing AH for almost 30 years now in MH. While he is a relatively well known for his tussle with Suresh Jain, he does not command respect of a dedicated work-force. Kejariwal, Bhushans, Kiran Bedi, nobody does.

In Democracy, nothing can happen without "Lok-Sangraha". And this "Lok-sangraha" is done by BRD, hence there were so many people present for AH's fast yesterday. When erudite people like Somnath ji start willifying such figures, they only need to do a reality check. Democracy needs people's participation and How many people respect arrogant knowledge? Once people start participating, the knowledgeable folks are attracted too and through these people, things happen.

The Jalaram Bappa of Guj, or Sai Baba of Shirdi, Gajanan Maharaj of Vidarbha and similar other "modern saints" were neither scholars, nor erudite pandits. they did not even preach anything. Yet, today they have created a lasting infrastructure which does Lokseva. Similar is example of Sathya Sai baba of Puttuparthi. "Guni" and "right-minded" people are attracted towards such "Banyan tress" and these trees give not only shelter to distressed, but opportunity to talented too to show their talent in particular field in right direction. BRD is such an institution.

He had potential to be Aadhunik Ramdas Swami OR Adhunik Vidyaranya Swami. may be he will, OR may be his "jeeva" has decided something else. Whatever the decision of that Jeeva is henceforth, he will be and should be judged based on his past actions which, until today, are nothing but glorious and virtuous.

This is how aam fata-chappal kisaan of india, clerk of India, dukaandaar of India sees BRD. and this is how Janta-Janaardan will judge him.

Govt lets off Priyanka who admits ‘mistake’ over DINs

http://www.dailypioneer.com/todays-news ... -dins.html
But in what could spell serious trouble for Chidambaram’s son, the Secretary went onto add that in case of multiple DIN applications submitted by Karti, it is observed that the case prima facie attracted provisions of Section 266A of the Companies Act. “Regional Director (NR) of this Ministry has been asked to call for explanations from Karti Chidambaram as per established procedure in such cases,” he said. The Regional Director has asked Karti to reply within 15 days.

Reacting to development, Swamy said in statement that, “the commission of offence under Company law regarding multiple DIN has been committed by a very large number of people in the Congress. I have compiled a list of these persons and will be filing criminal case against all of them. My next complaint will be against Robert Vadra’s violations in Company law by not filing mandatory statements like balance sheets for the past three years.

I talked to few Punjabi friends to understand why AAP has won 4 seats in Punjab. Here are the reasons

1) There is a massive drug problem, I repeat massive drug problem, in Punjab. All drugs are coming from across the border & there is deep nexus between drug peddlers & politicians. Bikram Majithia (brother of Harsimrat Kaur Badal & current revenue minister of Punjab) is percieved to be the kingpin of drug mafia.

2) Massive corruption at every level - from top to bottom

3) Both Congress & Akalis are seen as corrupt & therefore new found affinity for AAP as a new alternative

4) No jobs & no growth. And all jobless youth are getting addicted to drugs & families are getting affected as a result of this.

So guys, just because AAP won 4 seats doesn't mean that this is a laughing matter. Punjab is crying for help & its youth is in deep distress.

Either BJP/NaMo should force Akalis to shape up or ship out. If they don't shape up, BJP should go alone, as numerically its not a big state that can affect the chances of BJP in LokSabha.

Arun Jaitley paid a price for Akali follies. Naresh Gujral also accepted this on LiveTV. There is a gloom in Akali Dal due to this loss of face. Harsimrat Kaur has barely scraped through in Akali stronghold Bhatinda.

Never let socialists forget that Nazis were socialists.
So total is the Left's cultural ascendancy that no one likes to mention the socialist roots of fascism
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danie ... f-fascism/
'I am a Socialist,' Hitler told Otto Strasser in 1930, 'and a very different kind of Socialist from your rich friend, Count Reventlow'.

No one at the time would have regarded it as a controversial statement. The Nazis could hardly have been more open in their socialism, describing themselves with the same terminology as our own SWP: National Socialist German Workers' Party.

Almost everyone in those days accepted that fascism had emerged from the revolutionary Left. Its militants marched on May Day under red flags. Its leaders stood for collectivism, state control of industry, high tariffs, workers' councils. Around Europe, fascists were convinced that, as Hitler told an enthusiastic Mussolini in 1934, 'capitalism has run its course'.
Leftists become incandescent when reminded of the socialist roots of Nazism
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danie ... scent-why/
On 16 June 1941, as Hitler readied his forces for Operation Barbarossa, Josef Goebbels looked forward to the new order that the Nazis would impose on a conquered Russia. There would be no come-back, he wrote, for capitalists nor priests nor Tsars. Rather, in the place of debased, Jewish Bolshevism, the Wehrmacht would deliver “der echte Sozialismus”: real socialism.

Goebbels never doubted that he was a socialist. He understood Nazism to be a better and more plausible form of socialism than that propagated by Lenin. Instead of spreading itself across different nations, it would operate within the unit of the Volk.

...
The clue is in the name. Subsequent generations of Leftists have tried to explain away the awkward nomenclature of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party as either a cynical PR stunt or an embarrassing coincidence. In fact, the name meant what it said.

...
Jonah Goldberg has chronicled the phenomenon at length in his magnum opus, Liberal Fascism. Lots of people take offence at his title, evidently without reading the book since, in the first few pages, Jonah reveals that the phrase is not his own. He is quoting that impeccable progressive H.G. Wells who, in 1932, told the Young Liberals that they must become “liberal fascists” and “enlightened Nazis”.

In those days, most prominent Leftists intellectuals, including Wells, Jack London, Havelock Ellis and the Webbs, tended to favour eugenics, convinced that only religious hang-ups were holding back the development of a healthier species. The unapologetic way in which they spelt out the consequences have, like Hitler’s actual words, been largely edited from our discourse. Here, for example, is George Bernard Shaw in 1933:

Extermination must be put on a scientific basis if it is ever to be carried out humanely and apologetically as well as thoroughly… If we desire a certain type of civilisation and culture we must exterminate the sort of people who do not fit into it.

Eugenics, of course, topples easily into racism. Engels himself wrote of the “racial trash” – the groups who would necessarily be supplanted as scientific socialism came into its own. Season this outlook with a sprinkling of anti-capitalism and you often got Leftist anti-Semitism – something else we have edited from our memory, but which once went without saying. “How, as a socialist, can you not be an anti-Semite?” Hitler had asked his party members in 1920.

Before drugs, Punjabis were addicted to alcohol. Addiction is not a new thing for the region, it's just that access to cheaper drugs has made their addiction problem worse. Too much money (in a lot of cases), no physical and mental labour as most of the work is done by farm labourers from other states and a strange superiority complex over rest of world (just take a look at the songs) are some of major factors fueling this drug problem.

Some SAD leaders may indeed be drug smugglers, but Punjabi society needs a bit of introspection to realise why they got in to this mess.

16th Lok Sabha will be richest, have most MPs with criminal charges

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/1 ... epage=true

I dont understand. Are BJP MPs facing twice the number of criminal charges than Congress is doing? I can't believe it. Is it possible that in case of Congress, no criminal charges have been filed in spite of a crime being committed?

How come Samajwadi Party is not on the list? Trinamul Congress is not on the list either.

Very true. AAP presence was overrated due to its Delhi performance. In fact on All India basis its rank is lower than NOTA. SO AAP is no alternative. People have seen through its game.

Chennai: They traded barbs during the general election, but now, as they both bask in huge victories, it is time for bonhomie again between Narendra Modi and J Jayalalithaa.

Mr Modi, prime minster to be, called up the Tamil Nadu chief minister yesterday and greeted her on her winning 37 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in her state.

He thanked Ms Jayalalithaa for her letter on Friday congratulating him for his party's "magnificent win" in the elections and also assured her of his government's "absolute cooperation" with Tamil Nadu.

"Selvi (Ms) J Jayalalithaa, wished him a very successful tenure as Prime Minister of India. The Hon'ble Prime Minister-designate assured the Hon'ble Chief Minister that there will be absolute cooperation between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu," a state government release said

New Delhi: It isn't just allies who are lining up in Delhi to meet Narendra Modi, who will take over soon as India's next prime minister.

Today, Jagan Mohan Reddy, the regional powerhouse from Andhra Pradesh, accompanied by his MPs, travelled to Delhi for an appointment with Mr Modi.

Officially, they say the agenda is to discuss what sort of financial assistance will be extended to Andhra Pradesh by the new government. But privately, sources close to Jagan Mohan say that he also wants a reassurance that Mr Modi's ally, Chandrababu Naidu, who will take over as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, will not persecute him with corruption cases.

A recent post on the Facebook page of Mr Naidu's Telugu Desam Party or TDP, says "It is beyond doubt that he (Jagan Mohan) is going back to jail in 45 days." On Sunday, Mr Naidu said, "The law must take its own course... I don't have a grudge against anybody."
