Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
A few thoughts as we complete a month in office - NaMo's blog
It means, NaMo is watching antics of Congi-friends in system and especially News Traders.I feel there are areas where surely we need to improve. A big challenge I am facing in Delhi is to convey to a select group of people about our intentions and sincerity to bring a positive change in this country. (I am puzzled about this) These are people who are both within and outside the government system. There have been some instances in the last month with which our Government had nothing to do yet these controversies have persisted. I don’t blame anybody but I surely feel that we need to strengthen systems whereby the right things are communicated to the right people at the right time. Hopefully things will change then.
Every new Government has something that friends in the media like to call a ‘honeymoon period.’ Previous governments had the luxury of extending this ‘honeymoon period’ upto a hundred days and even beyond. Not unexpectedly I don’t have any such luxury. Forget hundred days, the series of allegations began in less than a hundred hours. But when one is working with the sole aim of serving the nation determinately, these things do not matter. That is why I keep working and that is most satisfying.
Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
^^^ Modi needs to bring in a system to tame news traders. Cong has deep tentacles in them. Just order income tax investigation into assets of top 20 editors -- that will do the trick.
Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
Per what I gather ( as some would say from 4th or 6th kouzin)
NaMo has clearly told all the officials to do their jobs without fear or favour- let the Indian constituion be the guiding force.
some are doing their jobs diligently.
In any organisation majority are good folkss who want to do their bit but a chosen corrupt few will spoil things for all.
If the good gets going doing their jobs like ants carrying the food, am hopeful of acche din surely.
yes it takes time but I will wait.

So the great communicator as PM has stopped communicating or so it seems... well, turns out, upon completion of 30 days in office, Modi has, in a post on his personal blog, said that every decision made in this last month, has been driven by national interest.
Yes!!
And here's the link to the said blog. Only. Ensoi.

Damn, answers many of 'em Qs that have kept rising.... here're some choice excerpts:
Q: Has the man gotten a grip on the notorious dilli-billi infested admin machinery? the steely frame babucracy? eh?

Now I know namo himself wrote this. How? A professional writer would phrase the first sentence differently. Would say '1 month is nothing compared to 67 yrs' rather than the other way round. Small things yes, but big difference.67 years of previous governments is nothing compared to 1 month, but I do want to say that in the last month, our entire team has devoted every single moment for the welfare of the people. Every decision we took has been guided solely by national interest.
Q: Has the man gotten a grip on the notorious dilli-billi infested admin machinery? the steely frame babucracy? eh?
Q answered. Seems to be saying, "don't worry, I know enough about this place now..."When we took over a month ago, I kept thinking that I am new to this place and some people believed that I would take at least a year or even two to learn the intricacies of the working of the Central Government. Fortunately, a month later that thought does not exist any longer in my mind. My confidence and determination has increased tremendously and I credit a substantial part of this to the collective experience and wisdom of my ministerial colleagues and also to my experiences as a four time Chief Minister.
Good going sir...Over the past few days I have been meeting Ministers and Officials from various departments who have been making detailed presentations to me. I must share that these presentations have enabled a wonderful exchange of thoughts and ideas and we have come up with excellent roadmaps for the various ministries and departments.
Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
Yesterday I was at Hyderabad and by Cab driver was commenting on the rail fare hike. I think the need for rail fare hike is not communicated properly and widely. This issue need to be addressed. People may be ready to take hardship if the reasons are properly explained to them. Further a government trying to explain the decision like fate hike will be seen as more caring/responsive one.
Quick decisions in defense matters also. But need full time defense minister some time soon.

Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
^^^ The best would have been to raise rail fare by 1% each month for the next one year.
Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
I think he is waiting for the parliament to start session. Everything will become clear then. Unfortunately in India PMs do not address the nation over radio and TV like they do in the US and other western countries. They need to start doing so soon.
Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
Sunday morning address to the nation may be good idea. On radio as only message to be conveyed. Just list the work done during the week etc and what steps etc will be taken. No politics of any kind. Just GOI work. Let it be stale but informative. For example details of year-wise losses of railways, safety steps, projects, facilities that were stopped in railways due to loss making conditions. Need for railway expansion etc could have sent a clear message on the need for the fare hike.

I would suggest continuation of Chai-Pe-Charcha 1hr national program on TV with randomly selected villages across the nation on a given topic.Narayana Rao wrote:Sunday morning address to the nation may be good idea. I recommend the following structure:
- 1Wk a month on Govt plans, projects & policies (pick an area and then present the nation what policy changes, projects etc coming int that area. One ministry at a time)
- 1Wk a month on topics related to civic society (Sauchalaya, Child-malnutrition, rapes, child-education, mothers, community cleaning etc - Pick a village to visit from which the program is conducted)
- 1Wk a month on National Interests (Educate/Explain citizenry on what constitutes National Interests - River waters, environment, Territorial integrity, Food security, Energy Security, Trade etc.,)
- 1Wk a month on Modi Projects (100 smart cities, infrastructure, inflation, skill development, women empowerment etc.,)
Let BJP be the organization that coordinates these events to show-case the nation that the party is responsible/answerable for the performance of BJP govt.

Ex-Solicitor General, former CBI chiefs accused of targeting Amit Shah
NEW DELHI: Three prominent figures during the UPA dispensation - former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium and ex-chiefs of the CBI, Ashwani Kumar and AP Singh - are finding themselves in a spot these days, and it not may be a coincidence that the BJP had accused all of them for the legal travails of its ace leader Amit Shah.
Noted lawyer Subramanium, who was nominated by the SC collegium for appointment as a judge in the apex court, had opted out of the race after the after the controversy surrounding adverse intelligence reports.
He has already said that what cost him the job was his role as an Amicus Curiae in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case where Shah is an accused.
In fact, Subramanium as well as Kumar, who resigned on Wednesday as the Governor of Nagaland, had been named by FM Arun Jaitley in his letter to then PM Manmohan Singh last September as being responsible for Shah's legal troubles in the Sohrabuddin case. ..
In his blog last February, Jaitley had said UPA selected "pliable" persons to become CBI directors and even offered post-retirement jobs ranging from governorship to the membership of the UPSC, in clear reference to Kumar who was appointed Governor, and AP Singh, who was appointed UPSC member in 2013.
Singh, facing an I-T probe with notices served to his family, is said to be under pressure to step down from his post at the UPSC. In his letter to Manmohan Singh last September, Jaitley had said a petition "sponsored" by the Congress was filed before the Supreme Court in the Sohrabuddin case.
"The then Additional Solicitor General, Gopal Subramaniam in a pre-conceived and planned move, appeared on day one before the Court and agreed to take instructions from the Central Government.
Subsequently, the Attorney General appeared for the Union of India and Subramaniam designated himself as Amicus Curiae without any specific order of the court.

he was the amicus curiae for padmanabhaswamy temple thantris case too.. saying things that makes everyone think about some form of upholding caste system only prescribed for higher echelons of the society. imho, guy is pretty much messed up in his dealings., and no clear vision.
indirectly, he jibes about hygiene with thantris.. imho, kerala priests are highest in hygiene i have ever seen any priests anywhere in the world. dunno, what politics he played while he was prescribed IIM/IIT salaries to priests.
we have to move towards more common civil codes for jobs, salaries, castes, living, etc. time to throw gov controls on culture, society and religion, but focus on common regulation patterns.

India now like a fast train: Singapore envoy
New Delhi: India is like a "fast train" and everyone wants to associate with it, Singapore High Commissioner Thuan Kuan said Friday after meeting Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.
Kuan said his country is keen to further scale up bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
Kuan also said that Singapore's foreign minister would be visiting India next week for discussions in cooperation in various sectors including urban development.

Apparently schools now need permission to recruit teachers. This is a major issue:
- Increases corruption (bribe me and you can have the job etc etc)
- Controls who can teach (certain ideologies are likely to be favoured, you can guess which)
The central govt needs to step in and stop this nonsense.

The case of self appointed amicus curiae becomes murkier.....
very selective amnesia too......

Gopal Subramanium’s lofty claims do not add up
Gopal Subramanium’s lofty claims do not add up
In the row over Law Ministry’s objections to Gopal Subramaniam’s elevation as Supreme Court judge, many critics of the Modi Government’s actions have alluded to his role as amicus curiae (friend of the court) in the Gujarat fake encounter cases as the actual unstated reason for objection.
Subramaniam also refers to his role in his letter to the CJI wherein he explains how he became amicus curiae in the high profile fake encounter cases. He states:
“I was sitting in Court waiting for a matter, which was lower down in the list. The Bench consisted of Justices Tarun Chatterjee and Dalveer Bhandari. It was Justice Dalveer Bhandari who along with Justice Tarun Chatterjee requested me to appear as amicus curiae in the matter. I readily accepted the request, which is consistent with the duties of the office of a Law Officer.”
He then goes on to say how he found out the record pertaining to the petition for the first time. This implies that the very first time he got to know of the facts, he was already amicus curiae at the request of SC.
The problem, however, is that this version is not borne out from the record of SC. Let us understand what happened.
The brother of Sohrabuddin Sheikh (killed in an encounter in Gujarat) – Rubabbuddin Sheikh – had filed a petition before SC requesting, among other things, a fair and impartial investigation by the CBI. As is the usual norm, the SC issued a notice to the Union of India (i.e., the UPA Government) listed as a respondent in such a petition.
While issuing a notice to the UPA, SC spotted Subramaniam in the court room. It therefore requested him something. What was that? Let us see from SC’s judgement itself in the Rubabbuddin case which describes the history of this case. Below is a screenshot of Paragraph 8 of the SC judgement (which can be read in full here).
If he was asked to be amicus, he does not have to take any instructions from anyone. He was clearly asked to take instructions in this matter from the UPA Government! Subramaniam was the Additional Solicitor General at that time i.e. in 2007.
In his letter to the then Prime Minister in 2013, this is what Arun Jaitley had to say about Subramanium’s coincidental presence in SC when this matter was called out:
“After his [Sohrabuddin] encounter on 24/25-11-2005, his brother [Rubabbuddin] filed a Writ Petition in the Supreme Court. The filing of the said petition was also sponsored by Congress Party. The then Addl. Solicitor General of India, Gopal Subramaniam in a pre-conceived and planned move, appeared on day one before the Court and agreed to take instructions from the Central Government.”
Note that the SC requested him to take instructions from the UPA on January 22, 2007. Till May 17, 2007 at least, for a good 4 months, Subramaniam continued to represent the UPA. How do we know this? Below is a record of counsels appearing for various parties:
In fact, in this very judgment dated May 17, 2007, in paragraph 8, SC notes Subramaniam’s submission that this was a fit case for handing over investigation to CBI. Again, it is critical to bear in mind that he argued this prior to the date of that judgement as the lawyer for UPA, not amicus curiae.
It is only later that Subramaniam became the amicus curiae. The court record shows him listed as amicus curiae for the first time only on August 6, 2007.
A lawyer who has not appeared for any party to the matter can only logically be appointed as amicus curiae. The reason is obvious. Once a lawyer has appeared for a party, a ‘friend of the court’ cannot assist the court without a bias for what he/she has argued earlier for that very party which continues as a party in the matter.
In other words, as UPA’s lawyer, Subramaniam argued that matter should be handed over to the CBI. As amicus curiae, how is he expected to argue anything different?
In his letter to the then Prime Minister (referenced above in this column), Arun Jaitley states something very scathing:
“Subsequently, the Attorney General appeared for the Union of India and Gopal Subramaniam designated himself as Amicus Curiae without any specific order of the court appointing him.”
It is true that there is no written order of SC in this entire matter which appoints Subramaniam as amicus curiae. Therefore, if at all his role as amicus was due to SC, it would be an oral request, indeed after he already appeared for the UPA.
This is something only the judges in question and the individuals present in the courtroom can vouch for. Jaitley, though, is very categorical in his letter, i.e., that it was a designation he bestowed upon himself.
The entire manner in which a senior advocate initially appearing for the UPA went on to become amicus curiae raises several questions. In 2007, UPA was rather obviously gunning for Modi. Having a CBI inquiry into the fake encounter cases could get them some ammunition to go to the very top. This isn’t to suggest that Subramaniam was a part of the UPA’s maneuvers.
However, Subramaniam’s lofty claim that he was requested by SC to be amicus in the initial stage when SC was considering Rubabbuddin’s petition is not borne out by the record.

Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
Fifth column: Ignore the pundits, PM
So it is settled. The finest political pundits tell us that Narendra Modi is finished because in his first month in office he has not been able to transform India. These political pundits and their comrades have been invisible since May 16, but they are back now. The day the railway fares and freight charges went up for the first time in more than a decade, was when they first started to reappear. Discredited Marxists, socialists in graded shades of pink, ‘secular’ political philosophers and ex-MPs manifested themselves on news channels to gleefully taunt the Prime Minister.
‘Where are the ‘acche din’ Mr Modi? See how you fooled the people with your campaign and now the people will soon discover that they were fooled’. This particular comment was repeated so often it became a communal chant. Communists who swear by China’s model of development were most vocal in the chorus. They know that the Indian Railways is a bullock cart on rails compared to China Railways and they do not want this to change. What puzzled me was that not a single TV anchor (in English or Hindi) tried to explain why the 14 per cent increase in the price of railway tickets had become necessary.
When I tried to analyse why, clarity quickly dawned. It is that old gang again. The same people who predicted that Modi would never become prime minister, the same people who said India would break again if he did become prime minister. These same people now want to ensure that he does not stay prime minister too long. So silly statements by novice ministers are magnified into serious political discourses. And any sign that the Prime Minister may really be signalling a new direction is ignored. His first speech in the Lok Sabha in which he reminded MPs that they represented the hopes of a billion people was mostly ignored by political pundits both on TV and in the newspapers. Why? It was the best speech made in Parliament in at least a decade.
If you want to understand why this happened, you need only YouTube any news channel’s reportage of last week’s summons to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi to appear in a Delhi court on charges of fraud. The compassionate tone of the anchors, the imputation of malicious motives to the magistrate, the subtle support for the Dynasty will help you in seeing the nuances of current political analysis.
Most political pundits in the national media like to think they are guardians of India’s ‘pluralism’ and cannot believe that the voters of India rejected this fine ideal. But, there is more. They do not want to admit they may have misjudged Modi. They will be very disappointed if in the next five years there are no pogroms against Muslims. They pretend otherwise, so there was hysteria over the tragic killing of the Muslim IT professional in Pune. Notice that almost nobody blamed Maharashtra’s Congress government. The Prime Minister was blamed for inspiring ‘Hindu triumphalism’.
Political pundits who remained silent, or spoke only in whispers in the decade in which policies made by Sonia Gandhi and her extra-constitutional kitchen cabinet ruined the Indian economy, have now found their voice. And, it is a shrill, unforgiving voice. So in long years as a political columnist, this is the first time I have seen a prime minister judged on his first 30 days. He is right when he says that not only has he been denied the usual 100-day honeymoon, he has not even had a 100 hours of a honeymoon. He needs to get used to it. The national media seems to have resolved to play the role that Opposition parties usually play in Parliament.
The people of India will give him more time because it is they who ensured that he became the first prime minister in 30 years to get a full majority. So he needs to communicate with them directly and often. If this monsoon remains as bad as it is so far, the poorest Indians are going to suffer even more deprivation than usual and a contingency plan needs to be carefully worked out already. It is not good enough to start threatening ‘hoarders’ with dire consequences. It would be far more productive if the ministers in-charge of food and agriculture were ordered immediately to make better use of the mountains of grain rotting in the fetid warehouses of the Food Corporation of India.
It would be best for the Prime Minister to personally take charge of the contingency plan so that in rural areas where the rains may fail, there are provisions for free kitchens and other assistance for those who are most vulnerable. It is things like this that the Prime Minister must concentrate on without worrying about political pundits. They are not on his honeymoon.

Singapore knows the potential of India. Just by investing its wealth in India it wants to secure the pensions of many generations of their country. They know history of India and its people very well and have a faith in their ability to deliver albeit slowly but surely. Even China uses Singapore as second hand destination to invest in India.
