International Aerospace Discussion
Re: International Aerospace Discussion
It probably doesn't have limiters like in fighters, since the chances of pilots crossing alpha limits during maneuvers would be considered quite rare. But I'm not sure.
the JASDF is buying 40 UH-60J SAR helis from Sikorsky..this picture shows a very innovative location for drop tanks to be fitted. Maybe something similar could be adapted for the Dhruv to enable better usage as a SAR platform for the IN or the CG?

Pilot can counteract FBW by switching it off. Boeing allows it, Airbus does not.
Re: International Aerospace Discussion
For that you need a mechanical backup to over ride FBW isnt it ? I have heard statement from some quarters that Airbus does not trust the pilot much hence imposes a acceptable limit on what a pilot can do without endangering the aircraft.ashokpachori wrote:Austin wrote:^^^ The C-17 is a FBW aircraft ,so how is that the pilot can perform such risky maneuvers , do they over ride the FBW ?

Turn off FBW, fly the old fashioned way a la Cessna - It (cessna) does not have FBW. FBW as well as an Autopilot is an enhancement. Yes mechanically/mannually you can control hydraulic actuators for slats, rudder, elevator, spoilers, flaps.
Unlike Airbus, Boeing lets aviator override fly-by-wire technologyI have heard statement from some quarters that Airbus does not trust the pilot much hence imposes a acceptable limit on what a pilot can do without endangering the aircraft.
You are right!

You are right. I was just listening to a ACDC song and came across a related video. One can see such config quite a few times in the video. PS:The shameless manner in which the victors of WW2 used their Nazi scientists to maintain their military supremacy ,indicates the total hypocrisy of the victors."To the victor the spoils" goes the famous saying, and in the aftermath of WW2,the spoils were not only the looted trillions of hard wealth, cultural treasures, etc.,but also the human resources of German techno-scientific knowledge.Haeussermann was with Dr. Wernher von Braun at Pennemunde, the German site where V-2 rockets were built in World War II. He joined the team of scientists and engineers who worked on America's space program at Huntsville after the war.
He was in charge of guidance and control systems for rockets that landed American astronauts on the moon in 1969.

Israeli jet downs flying object near nuclear plant
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/worl ... 115313.cmsAn Israeli warplane has shot down a "suspicious object" flying over the southern part of the Dead Sea, the military said, adding that the intruder appeared to have been a balloon.
The country's main nuclear reactor is about 30 kilometres from the Dead Sea, at Dimona in the Negev desert.
"Air force planes were scrambled after a suspicious object was seen," a military spokeswoman told AFP yesterday. "It was shot down." She did not elaborate.
Local news site Ynet said one of the planes fired a missile at the object "which was hovering close to the nuclear research institute at Dimona."
It said the balloon appeared to be powered by an engine, but was unmanned.

Adieu, Voyager
Like Sachin Tendulkar, the spacecraft Voyager 1 has reached a stage where everything it does is a record. But the latest news is awe-inspiring even though it was expected: Voyager 1 is now going to exit the solar system. No man made thing has ever done that. And, definitely not a spacecraft with which humans are still in touch
In case you are thinking that some aliens will bump into Voyager 1, think again. The chances are remote – less than the proverbial bottle in the ocean. The nearest it will pass any star will be in 40,272 AD according to NASA, and that too at a distance of 1.7 light years. The obscure star is called AC+79 3888, located in the constellation Ursa Minor (the Little Bear or Little Dipper). We won’t even know about this insignificant event because the fuel in Voyager 1 batteries is expected to finish in about ten years.

F-35's for peace in Middle east.. (beats logic)
Israel 'wants more stealth fighters'
Israel 'wants more stealth fighters'
Israel agreed to buy a first tranche of 20 F-35s in August, but had hoped to acquire another 20 free of charge as part of a lucrative deal with the United States aimed at salvaging the peace process. Under terms of the offer, Washington would have asked Congress to approve 20 additional F-35 fighter planes for Israel, worth some three billion dollars, in exchange for a 90-day moratorium on settlement building -- the Palestinian condition for remaining at the table.

The head of the RAF’s fighter and bomber force has said that drastic cuts in the Government’s defence review “worry the hell out of me” and would leave the Air Force only “slightly above Belgium” in squadron numbers.

which should be fine because the UK no longer has the financial or political capital to wage wars without in concert with the US. same goes for France.
they can probably beat up some militia run, civil war ravaged african coastal nation but not even in africa they have the ability to wage a serious war away from the coast with a extended supply line. no money, no people, no resources.
so they can hug their SLBMs and hope to remain relevant as india, brazil , south korea cross them in economic and military heft and move on....but it aint gonna help.

WikiLeaks sheds light on U.S. bid to sell jet fighters to Brazil
In Brazil, Boeing's F/A-18 Super Hornet is competing with the Rafale, built by France's Dassault Aviation, and the Gripen, from Swedish company Saab AB. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been an outspoken champion of the French Rafale, even though many in Brazil's military support an F/A-18 purchase.
Brazil currently has 110 aging jet fighters to patrol 5 million square miles, including most of the Amazon Basin and a vast new offshore oil field, the cable from the Paris U.S. Embassy said. While it didn't call it a Latin American arms race, the cable noted that Chile has 29 advanced F-16s and Venezuela 24 modern Sukhoi 30s.
The cable also said there were Brazilian concerns that even if the F/A-18 were selected, the State Department would block the sale because it involved the export of sensitive technology, and financing could become an issue because the U.S. Export-Import Bank can't finance defense sales. The Brazilians also were wondering whether the U.S. decision to block the sale of Embraer's Super Tucano to Venezuela because it carried sensitive U.S. technology was a sign that there would be problems with the export of F/A-18s. Embraer is Brazil's largest aerospace company, and the Super Tucano is a turboprop light attack aircraft.

not just nazi rocket scientists but even a notorious japanese biological warfare unit which operated in manchuria and did experiments on chinese people like cutting up a person while still alive, freezing them to death, infecting with deadly germs were pardoned and all their test results obtained for the US/Soviet biowar community's use. these guys killed between 2-5 lakh people alone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731. the US recruited the guy in charge and shipped him to maryland (probably Ft Detrick) to work on bio warfare.
only the relatively useless criminals like SS types who oversaw the gassing of jews and roma were prosecuted, but I am sure some of them who had useful data managed to get secret pardons and lived happily ever after. for H&D reasons they did throw a few bones by letting israel capture and hang a few prominent ones later.

Re: International Aerospace Discussion
why would you say that? there are eyewitnesses. From when did remote helicopters create such a huge wash on water? The two navy pilots have been suspended. Pentagon is investigating it. You can see the original video on youtube too.SaiK wrote:The blackhawk is definitely a fake or the model helo piloted by some remote kid.
I agree propaganda is a huge game changer in today's world but not everything thats hard to digest becomes propaganda.
I was also wondering the navy blackhawks need to hover pretty close to the water while lowering the sonar submarine detector and they are supposed to land on ship decks on choppy waters so maybe that capability enabled it to withstand the brief plunge in the water. also the report says the helicopter was damaged for more than 50 million $ but less than 500 million $
Re: International Aerospace Discussion
Believe it or not, the reason they pulled that stunt was to get photos so that they could update their command's Facebook page . Incidentally, total repair costs for both birds combined cost slightly more than $500k.Sudip wrote:why would you say that? there are eyewitnesses. President Medvedev sacks space officials for satellite loss
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed on Wednesday two senior space industry officials and reprimanded the head of Russia's space agency Roscosmos, Anatoly Perminov, for the recent loss of three Glonass satellites.
The satellites were lost on December 5 when a Proton-M carrier rocket veered off course and sunk in the Pacific Ocean. The rocket was equipped with a DM-3 booster, designed and manufactured by the Energia space corporation.
Medvedev dismissed Energia's chief designer of rocket and space systems Vyacheslav Filin and deputy head of Roscosmos Viktor Remishevsky based on a report prepared by a state investigation commission.
The commission concluded that Energia experts miscalculated how much fuel was needed for the DM-3 rocket booster. As a result, the amount of oxidant exceeded the norm by 1-1.5 tons and excessive weight prevented the Proton-M rocket from putting the satellites into their calculated orbit.
In addition, the company's management did not follow all the necessary pre-launch safety procedures and failed to spot the mistake in calculations, the commission reported.

Flight Testing Begins for HondaJet
The first FAA-conforming HondaJet flew for the first time yesterday from the Honda Aircraft Co. facility at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C. During the 51-minute flight aircraft’s flight characteristics and performance were analyzed and systems checks were conducted.
Fujino tells Aviation Week that the program, which had experienced a year-long delay, is “catching up very rapidly.” The aircraft’s GE Honda HF120 turbofan engines are expected to receive FAA certification in 2011 and, he says the aircraft should meet its schedule targets of certification and first deliveries in the latter part of 2012.
