Shourie is not beyond criticism. He was involved in a scam relating to sale of govt owned hotels in vicinity of dilli airport when he was a minister in vajpai cabinet. They were sold for peanuts to pvt entities.

PM knew about deal: Devas CEO

The officials at the Indian Space Research Organisation, including chairman K Radhakrishnan, had repeatedly claimed that the Cabinet was not aware of the deal. In a statement, Isro said on Thursday that the Space Commission, comprising key officials of the PMO and the space establishment was not aware of the deal prior to July 2010. Devas' Viswanathan says the commission has been in the loop all along and the deal itself was approved by it before it was signed.

"I don't know what they discussed, but this deal was specifically brought up by the German foreign minister and we were given to understand by the Space Commission that all concerns have been satisfactorily addressed," Viswanathan said.

The German government directly and indirectly owns a 32% equity stake in Deutsche Telekom , which in turn owns about 17% in Devas Multimedia. The US State Department had intervened on behalf of investors based in that country, namely Columbia Capital and Telecom Ventures.

I am sure, you must have done your homework on the matter to say for sure what the pervailing situation was, the CAC reports on the matter, what happened in the investigations, what was his defense, etc.

I am sure liars like him are so besharam that they would come on national TV and provide information to authorities on scams by others but hide their own ones?

One can understand the cynicism one has for politicians in a system that is seriously messed up, but the cost of that cynicism is even higher, where we are no longer able to judge and will easily lump the honest with the guilty

This is uncalled for. There are millions of people in India who blindly follow dynasty without understanding any thing about them. Most of them are Hindus. Please don't attack other members using their religion. I am sick of this dynasty and want it to be destroyed. But it does not mean we attack people personally using their religion or caste if they support dynasty.

Ah, Shashi Tharoor has already repaid the dues back to the cattle class people who sponsored his excess in CWG saga. He turned around and spat on those guys who literally expend sweat and blood to make few coins. He conveniently has used all the generosity displayed by the law abiding hard working cattle class people who get taxed and which enabled him to do his back breaking 12 day job.
Now, later he expressed his gratitude by praising the citizenry as cattles'. Now, he has also reminded that it is sin to be cattle class. By his own acts he has demonstrated that it is better to be a hafta collector so he can never be seen with cattle class but be a high roller.
The moral of the story to the cattle class is: suspend one's conscience and become a hafta collector just like Shashi Tharoor, so one can move in elite league of gods. What more do the cattle class expect from him? Do not push your luck, else he might charge for the moral lesson he has imparted.

Well, to be fair, Shashi Tharoor is a small fish, most likely a bottom feeder, who charged approximately Rs.12000/hr for those 12 days @ 8 hr/day work.

A quick calculation to get a perspective on the magnitude of the 2G scam alone please see below
Rs.176,379 crore 2G scam
what it could have provided for:

Maintain president of India for 7840 years @ 22.5 crore rupees upkeep for every year
or
1568 presidential terms each lasting for 5 years in office at current rate.

Approx 35 lakh people's salary for 1 year @ 5 lakh rupees per annum.

Pay 1.45 Crore teachers (more than all the teachers in whole of India at that level) for a year at middle school level earning approx 1.2 lakhs rupees per annum

Approx 90 days of milk to every man, woman and child in India @ a recommended dietary intake of 250 gms/day @ Rs.15/liter
or
if concentrated for 30% below poverty line population

Approximately 270 days of milk to every man, woman and child to Below poverty line population in India

And this is just 2G scam...

The diehard dynasty dogs are slowly losing patience with clueless 2Gs (Sonia "G" and Rahul "G") and their incompetence. May be they think the incompetence will destroy their perpetual looting license by maintaining a secular facade.

Leadership deficit

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been caught in the crossfire and appears confused while dealing with important matters. Her weakness is that she wants to maintain a status quo and this stems from her inexperience. The enthusiasm with which she had started her political innings seems to be diminishing thanks to the power play within the Congress and the UPA. It seems she is slowly losing control.

Equally dangerous is the fact that several bureaucrats have assumed more power than is permissible in a democratic set-up. They are playing a proactive role in the decision-making process but have no accountability. This has emboldened the judiciary to give directions in areas that it used to leave alone.

The result of all this is that at one level, the executive is either a prisoner of indecision or is oblivious of the many wrongdoings. The legislature is indifferent or has not been able to make any impact on decision-making due to the nature of coalition politics. Naturally, the judiciary has become proactive. Politics thus is the biggest casualty and politicians are bearing the brunt. The agenda of the Congress to strengthen itself in the Hindi heartland lies unfulfilled because of three reasons: first, some deliberate activities of some of its key players; inability of Gandhi's advisers to give her sound guidance; and the failure to comprehend the ground realities accurately.

The Ides of February

One challenge with analysing the situation in which the UPA government finds itself in its second term is that you cannot find any real parallel, or comparative reference point, for it in our political history. Governments have run aground early in their tenures despite comfortable majorities (Rajiv Gandhi’s in its third year, and Janata probably from the moment it was sworn in). But those were different situations, and first-term governments. This is a coalition that only emerged stronger through a tenuous first term, and has lately lost its way.

Home ministry official passed info to DB Realty: Police

NEW DELHI: DB Realty, the firm promoted by Shahid Balwa who is in CBI custody for his role in the 2G scam, is also being investigated by Delhi police for receiving secret information from tainted IAS officer Ravi Inder Singh, who was posted in the home ministry.

In its chargesheet filed against Singh last month, Delhi police said the MHA (ministry of home affairs) official and his associate Vineet Kumar passed on information to DB Realty and other firms. The chargesheet (TOI has a copy) said, "Vineet Kumar (CMD of Kolkata-based Temptation Food Pvt Ltd) was in touch with Ravi Inder Singh to get the file of DB Realty cleared from the home ministry. Singh passed on information to Vineet regarding movement of the files, notings by officers and status of those files."
Singh was arrested by Delhi police's special cell on November 23, 2010 along with Vineet, his agent. A chargesheet was filed against the duo on January 22 this year. Singh was accused of passing on sensitive information to several private telecom companies.

During investigations, Delhi police had obtained copies of files related to security clearance to Telecordia Technologies Inc (USA) and Etisalat DB Telecom Pvt Ltd from the MHA. Delhi police had recorded the duo's telephone conversations for over two months before arresting them.

They used code words to talk about the companies, sources said.

One such conversation mentioned in the chargesheet on October 26, 2010 at 7.26 pm talks about DB Realty. "Ravi (Singh) tells Vineet about grant of one week grace time as parents are there (not very clear what is meant by parents) and you can tell them. No communication has been sent. Ravi says he has checked it and confirmed that grace time has been given. Regarding issue 1, Ravi tells Vineet that it will be done in a day or two. Regarding issue 2, Vineet asks Ravi to look into it. As per disclosure statement of Vineet Kumar, issue 1 related to work of DB Realty," the chargesheet said.

Delhi police is still looking into the matter and has not questioned anyone from DB Realty yet. "The investigations in respect of Etisalat DB Telecom ( Mumbai) and its sister concern DB Realty are yet to be conducted in this case," the chargesheet said.

In the 2G spectrum scam, the CBI has arrested Shahid Balwa and is confronting him with former telecom minister A Raja.

The agency has widened the scope of investigations into the scam to all the companies which got 122 licences and allegedly paid kickbacks to Raja and others. The CBI has begun investigations related to eight companies which got 2G licences in 2008 and officials of five of those companies—Reliance, Loop, S-Tel, Swan and Unitech—are being questioned.

PMO babus knew about Antrix deal: Devas CEO

NEW DELHI: Top officials in the prime minister's office were aware of the progress of the deal between Devas Multimedia and India's commercial space arm Antrix well after the agency claimed it decided to terminate the venture in July 2010, claims Devas chief executive officer Ram Vishwanathan.

Three senior PMO officials — principal secretary T K A Nair, national security advisor Shivshankar Menon and former MoS in PMO and currently Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan — were in the loop as members of the Space Commission.

The contract kicked up a storm over alleged cheap allocation of space segment spectrum.

Speaking to TOI, Vishwanathan said discussions with the Space Commission and India's space development agency Isro continued to take place after July last year. "PMO was definitely aware of the matter. PMO officials through the Space Commission knew about it," Vishwanathan said.

The Devas boss, in the middle of a controversy over Isro agreeing to lease transponders and S-band spectrum for wi-fi services at a cost well below that charged for 3G spectrum, said the evaluation was inaccurate. He said no spectrum had yet been allotted to the firm and Devas did not intend to provide voice mobile telephony.

Vishwanathan said "absolutely" when asked if PMO officials knew about various facets of the case. Vishwanathan said Antrix "neither orally or in writing ever told Devas that the contract was being reconsidered".

Devas was given project reviews detailing progress of two satellites on which the services were to be provided untill October last year.

The Devas CEO said the firm was not cornering spectrum free as is being widely alleged. "We will be authorised to use spectrum after the satellites are launched. We are ready to pay market price for spectrum once government has a policy on pricing," Vishwanathan said.

Until now, the company has approval for using transponders and a licence from department of telecommunications for providing Internet services. "We will apply for authorisation for use of spectrum from DoT only when the satellites are launched. Then we will pay for spectrum," he said.

Although Vishwanathan refused comment, the flux in Isro and Space Commission is traced by sources close to the company to rivals using satellite platforms. The wi-fi device as small as a matchbox developed by Devas is believed to be capable of delivering high quality streaming audio, video and internet services at any location. The services can be routed to a laptop or terminal.

Devas says that if the contract is cancelled it will seek significant liquidated damages and its foreign partners like Deutsche Telecom are certain to act on their own as well. "It will be significant.. significant in terms of investment and the lost opportunity. We have a legally binding contract and we will take measures to protect our interests," Vishwanathan said.

Adding to the above:

The spectrum scams 2G and 2S alone cost the nation 3.5 Sonias. Here are some interesting numbers.

0. The GOI net borrowing in 2010 was 3.5 lakhs crore (rounded) or equal to 3.5 Sonias. That is the entire spectrum scam if taken by CAG's number would have paid off the total GOI net borrowing.

1. What was the Road Transport allocation in 2010 India Budget (rounded)?
Ans. Two Mohans or 0.2 Sonias.

2. What was the plan allocation for education in 2010 budget (rounded)?
Ans. 3.2 Mohans or 0.32 Sonias.

3. Defense Allocation for 2010?
Ans. 1.5 Sonias.

Heck, adding up 1-3 still is @30% less than the total spectrum cost (2 Sonias compared to 3.5 Sonias).

So we lost the money for defense, education and road transport with additional cash in hand in the spectrum sale onleee.

Wah CONgress. Kamaal nahin.

Grapevine: Indira married Feroze since Mahatma Gandhi "adopted" him to broker the marriage to which JLN was opposed. JLN was very pragmatic

. Thus Feroze got the Gandhi surname and thus we had Indira Gandhi and hence been called Nehru-Gandhi dynasty since then.

Curious fact is that the eldest son of Gandhi died in penury.

The details of the US high-profile diplomutts who batted for Devas indicate the true entity which orchestrated this deal.It also hints at a truly massive conspiracy that has the policies of every ministry of the govt. beholden to Uncle sam,especially the critical ministries of defence and froeign affairs.To have the most sensitive scarce spectrum used by the defence services surreptitiously in the hands of the US/foreign entities,that too virtually for free,is tantamount to treason. MMS states that his hands were tied due to coalation dharma due to which he was unable to act on Raja and if the people of India don't want to face election every six months we should keep our eyes shut to such acts of corruption by alliance partners of UPA(not his actual statement he implied). By the same logic if a hawaldar indulges in corruption to serve his family dharma(parents medical bill,childs education etc.) he should not be punished. Way to go Mr. Clean every citizen should be indulging in corrution to serve some kind of dharma(everybody has some)

A person of impeccable integrity, mr. Clean image says this - don't tell the public about scams as it would hurt Indian image. Don't ask for resignations as it is bad for economy. Don't vote non-INC, as it would be hurting india... (congress is India and India is congress). Now we know why INC opposed India Shining campaign, they weren't shining.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister referred to the media expose of various scams including the Commonwealth Games, ISRO deal, Adarsh housing affairs but asked the media not to give an image that India was a scam-driven country and nothing good was happening.

He and his regime have no moral legitimacy after scam-a-day administration of national affairs. Any person who supports or enters into any agreement with Bakis or formalizes a "deal" on J&K should be ready for legal and political scrutiny at a later date.
