I made a statement, similar to Gagan in another thread regarding the Haji Pir Pass.somnath wrote: Maybe you should study the war - there are numerous accounts of it, including the official one - the Haji Pir Pass was "traded" for Pak withdrawls in other places, most notably around the Chamb-Jaurian sector...the govt of the time made a calculated call regarding that...Two, it is less than an urban legend that Lahore was "ripe for our pickings" - most credible analyses in fact put it that Lahore was very well defended and the Indian offensive had really ground to a stalemate by then...
No doubt India got its land back. Point which can be debated is, India returned territory in the ratio of 3:1 because of Tashkent agreement. Moreover fertile land was returned.
Lahore, maybe, was well defended but with little ammunition to hold on to. Something needs to be said not about pressing the advantage.

India was as usual trying to maintain the status quo and not trying to grab any land from Pakistan even if that would have taught Pakistan a lesson hence the return. The other point to be considered is that in 65, we probably were still trying to develop decent relationship with Pakistan despite war and LBS ji was a noble man by heart. Although Grabbing Lahore for few days would have dented puke H&D for eternity.

Probably in 65 we had to take moral high ground. I am not sure. The real picture will emerge by reading news papers from 62 till 65. Remember India had a good standing in NAM and Russians were keen to show west their peace making credentials at that time... May be LBS agreed under a deal to secure moral high ground for India and delivering Russians a foreign policy coup. I also think that in 1965 our dependence on USSR was much much higher.
I am no expert on this but it's difficult for me to accept that LBS acted out of 'nice guy syndrome'.

You are not joking are you? After the crimes TSP roaches have committed against India, they should have been annhilated, and here they are still sitting pretty and thumbing their nose at India. Thats not a dividends? Just read this headline from the BeeB should make your blood boil:somnath wrote:This is repeated time and again..Pak has reaped "huge dividends", they are "winning" etc...what is our touchstone of success? By what parameter has Pak won anything in the last 15 years?
S Asia rivals agree on Mumbai probe
A crude analogy will drive home the point on the dividends. Imagine a gut rapes his neigbor's wife, and then jointly agrees with the neighbor to investigate the crime. I need not say anything else.
