Admission of state sponsored terrorism by Pakistani authorities

see this Der Spigel Interview where Musharraf admits to that.

On 7th Nov in TimesNow Channel, Tasneem Noorani, a former Secretary of the Pakistani Interior Ministry, openly said that.

Kiyani called the Haqqanis as strategic assets.

In Dec. 2008, President Zardari himself admitted to ISI helping LeT. He said,"The links between the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency and the LeT were developed in the old days when dictators used to run the country. After the 9/11 terror attacks in the US, things have changed to a great extent"

In an address to bureaucrats in July 2009, President Zardari said: "Militants and extremists were deliberately created and nurtured as a policy to achieve some short-term tactical objectives. Let us be truthful to ourselves and make a candid admission of the realities. The terrorists of today were the heroes of yesteryears until 9/11 occurred and they began to haunt us as well"

In Nov. 2009, Prime Minister Gilani admitted to the support for terrorism by Musharraf as "running with the hares and hunting with the hounds".

When Bush warned the Pakistanis in August 2008 of their support to Al Qaeda, Afrasiab Khattak, President of Awami National Party (ANP) said this: "The question is why it has taken the Americans so long to see what the ISI is doing. We’ve been telling them for years but they wouldn’t buy it.". See here.

In an interview to the BBC as far back as on Feb. 13, 1994, Benazir Bhutto admitted how she handed over to Rajiv Gandhi the complete list of Sikh activists colluding with the ISI in terrorism in the Punjab. Later, Nawaz Sharif described this interview as a faux pas.

Apart from these, of course, numerous Pakistani commentators, analysts, and editors have openly admitted to terror as a state policy.

Can anyone close a thread ? I mean I have seen different Non-Mod posters locking the Paki thread once it reaches 72 and then start a new one like Dr. Hakimullah did for this thread.
How does it work ? Are these posters Houri certified to send threads to trash and start a new one with fresh 72 virgins?

This is interesting.

Soldiers mistakenly kill themselves in Pakistan.

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiap ... tml?hpt=T2
Fourteen Pakistani soldiers were killed when they fired a mortar to try and repel a group of militants but accidentally hit themselves, a government official said.

The incident occurred when the soldiers were traveling in a convoy of three vehicles Monday night near the village of Akakhel in Khyber Agency, said Roshan Khan, a government official in the agency.

Miltants fired on the convoy with machine guns and a soldier responded by firing a mortar. Somehow the mortar landed among the soldiers, killing them, Khan said.

Khyber Agency, 24 kilometers (14 miles) west of Peshawar, is the capital of northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is considered a hub for militants.

Khyber Agency also is one of the main supply routes for the U.S.-led coalition forces operating in Afghanistan and militants frequently attack NATO supply trucks in the region.
Could this be the result of lack of adequate training?Prima facie it looks like they failed to follow the standard operating procedures. On the other hand could be an accident as well.

Put Siachen on table last, not first- Vikram Sood
This subscript says that Pakistan is unable to fully cooperate because of its apprehension about Indian designs on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Almost all of the recent writings from the US or the UK end up with the same final recommendation. India and Pakistan must sort themselves out on issues like Kashmir to enable Pakistan to stabilise. The kind of gentle persuasion that was alluded to in the Wikileaks cables must surely be continuing. India-Pakistan talks have recommenced: another dramatic but eventually pointless gesture to inconsequential entities has been made.
Recent writings from Pakistan suggest that among the issues that are considered easily solvable is the Saltoro Ridge (commonly referred to as the Siachen Glacier) and the UN is being inveigled into this. This is not so and anyone who sees the map of the region will understand this. Undoubtedly peace with Pakistan is desirable. However, to try and attain it through magnanimity will only trump realism.
The reality is that the India-Pakistan level of distrust. Pakistan has not called an unequivocal and permanent end to using its jihadist weapon in India and it never will; its prevarication on issues related to investigation in the Mumbai 2008 terrorist attack is the sum and substance of this attitude.
How true- it never will as it will be the death of pakistan notwithstanding wkks

story of saltoro ridge/siachen glacier-
The Indian Army climbed to the Saltoro Ridge in 1984 to cut off Pakistan’s plans to access beyond Saltoro to the Karakoram pass. This would have enabled Pakistan access to Tibet and also threaten Ladakh. Pakistan and China would have access to each other through the Khunjerab pass on the Karakoram highway via Xinjiang and to Tibet through the Karakoram pass. The Saltoro Ridge provided Indian forces with strategic heights looking into Pak-occupied Gilgit and Baltistan. Such an advantage must not be given up for some obscure short-term political gain without a document to establish one’s credentials.
Pakistan’s unwillingness to sign any document that authenticates the Agreed Ground Position Line (AGPL) could only mean that it would seek to break it at first dawn. There is neither a change of heart nor intentions. Kargil 1999 was the latest, and probably not the last, military attempt to alter the ground position in Kashmir in an effort to negate the advantage India had in Saltoro.
India gave up its advantages- what the army wins on the battlefield shedding its blood, negotiations give it away-
India has repeatedly given up strategic advantages and conceded on the negotiating table what was won on the battlefield. In 1948, when the Pakistani forces were retreating, we did not secure Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Kotli or Skardu. In 1966, we gave up Haji Pir, through which infiltrators keep coming into the Kashmir Valley even today. In 1972, we gave up territory and 93,000 prisoners of war for an agreement that Pakistan never intended to observe.
The only way it would not be perceived as a retreat would be if the Pakistanis first agreed to delineate the AGPL in the Siachen sector, which is a part of the large Saltoro Ridge, authenticate this on maps that would then be signed and exchanged by commanders of the two countries. Pakistan would then project the AGPL in all its maps, making the AGPL an extension of the line of control from Point NJ-9842 that does not go towards the Karakoram pass but due north along the Saltoro Ridge. After this, the two countries would work out the ground rules for demilitarisation. Only after this has been worked out should there be discussion on redeployment and demilitarisation of this sector. Anything short of this will be a sellout.
The issue is far too important to be decided furtively or in a hurry. It is only fair that if we are to retreat, the people should know that this pullback is in the national interest. Siachen has to be last issue on the table and not the first one.
He is clear as what India has to do wrt siachen.

The newspapers report that about 5000 Visas will/have been granted to cricket fans from Pakistan after verifying their WC tickets ; I am just curious to know how come these guys managed to purchase 5000 tickets for SF/Final in such a short notice ? The kind of prices being quoted in the market for these tickets is mind-boggling.

Our learned prime minister MMS, using his vast knowledge on Pakistan decided to invite the paki PM without consulting anyone, for he was quite convinced this is the right thing to do ....

PM on front foot, put one past MEA
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s decision to invite the Pakistani political leadership to the India-Pakistan World Cup semi-final at Mohali was a move straight from his desk.

There was no formal consultation with the Cabinet Committee on Security and the PMO directly faxed invitation letters to the office of the Pak President Asif Ali Zardari and Pak Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani without involving the Indian High Commission.
...
...
Personally, the PM, sources said, was “quite convinced”. Insiders said he had been wondering aloud about revisiting the Pakistan initiative given the fact that more than a year had passed since he had met either Zardari or Gilani. While an official invitation from Pakistan is pending with the PM, Islamabad has always attached substantive outcomes to any such visit and terror incidents have stalled progress.
...
...
The fact is that the letter was delivered through diplomatic channels only the next day. Significantly, the Ministry of External Affairs was not involved at the functional level. Sources confirmed that this was an effort initiated directly by the Prime Minister and took many of his senior colleagues by surprise.
...
...
Of late, a constant refrain from Islamabad to its Western interlocutors was that New Delhi had not been forthcoming on the dialogue front. India has kept underlining that Pak wasn’t moving ahead on the 26/11 probe. On talks, India advocated a calibrated approach rather than resuming the “composite dialogue” which essentially meant that conversation begins on issues where there is least divergence. That, too, was not acceptable to Pakistan.

Finally, India agreed to resume the dialogue and discuss all issues on the table. Even though the set of conversations announced after the meeting of the Foreign Secretaries in Thimphu last month mirror those in the “composite dialogue,” the two sides have agreed to avoid using the term.
...
The pakis, even though being on the back foot, were insisting on "substantive outcomes" to any visits and insisting on "Composite dialog, putting 26/11 behind", the GoI, which supposedly had the moral high ground after 26/11, capitulated shamefully in agreeing to all paki conditions without anything in return

LA Times report says nothing that we did not know already. But still, it staggers to be reminded of the scale of the Paki problem:

Pakistan handles Islamic extremism with kid gloves
At a rally last month called by Jamaat-ud-Dawa, a group regarded in the West as a front for the banned militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, more than 20,000 Pakistanis jammed a highway in the eastern city of Lahore to hear Islamist leaders urge the government to establish a ministry for jihad, or holy war. India and the West have accused Lashkar-e-Taiba of masterminding the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in 2008 that killed more than 160 people.

"I can assure you that the funding for this ministry will be given by [Jamaat-ud-Dawa], and we will present a million trained sons of ours for this purpose," the group's political affairs chief, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, told the crowd. "Give these million warriors of God AK-47s!"

A third of the population lives below the poverty line. Nearly 7 million children between the ages of 5 and 9 do not attend school, and two of three youths of secondary school age stay at home. Almost half of the population is illiterate.
and this as well:
The influence of extremists could also be reined in if the military and intelligence communities intervened. But bonds between the Islamists and the generals are resilient and time-tested...

Some militants are regarded as "strategic assets," said a senior intelligence official who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on such matters.

"Putting these people in prison is a sort of control mechanism," the official said. "Though they are still able to run their organizations effectively from prison, it's a bit of a cooling-down period for them, a time to hibernate."

A must read. Declan Walsh in the Guardian writes about the monstrously murderous war that Kayani and co are waging on the Baloch people.

Pakistan's secret dirty war
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/ma ... -dirty-war
...this insurgency seems to have spread deeper into Baloch society than ever before. Anti-Pakistani fervour has gripped the province. Baloch schoolchildren refuse to sing the national anthem or fly its flag; women, traditionally secluded, have joined the struggle. Universities have become hotbeds of nationalist sentiment.

Not just Baluchis:

Mr. Rah will play host to friends and relatives to watch the game. He is backing Pakistan (as Kashmiris of his generation tend to do). “I like the underdog,” he said. “Pakistan is a devastated country and they need something to cheer them up.” But his nephews, in their mid-20s, and his daughter Sophie Noor, 7, all support India, as younger Kashmiris tend to do – so he expects a little tension on the couch.

Sindhi's will hear Sindh for sure when the National anthem of India is sung. The line "Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha" is something that the Sindhis who support the Indian team can cheer about.
Was Baluch there in our national anthem once upon a time and then later removed because of some reasons?

Mr. Man Mohan Singh would not have acted alone so brazenly unless he has the support of Ms. Sonia Gandhi in this. He doesn't do anything on his own. For her part, Ms. Sonia might have been convinced by the US that pandering to the Pakistanis and thus making them overcome their paranoia is the only way to go to settle the India-Pakistan problem. It is very clear now that the MEA and the Foreign Minister are mere spectators in affairs with respect to Pakistan. This has now been effectively hijacked by the triumvirate of USA, Sonia and Man Mohan Singh. We are outdoing ourselves in ineptitude and incoherence in dealing with Pakistan. Such a shame.

Was Baluch there in our national anthem once upon a time and then later removed because of some reasons?[/quote]

Not heard of the word Baloch in the anthem...

looking at this whole chanakian:roll: kiket diplomacy by MMS to divert public attention from corruption, now it can be perdicted that next step by GOI will be to nudge Burkhas & Rajdeeps to get back to their usual BS of how kirkeet is helping in people-to-people contact hence GOI decided to resume ful Cricket ties with TSP.
Sharad Pawar will be salivating to make a few millions more.
Wannabe bollywood RAPEs like Shahrukh Khan will be quick to demand IPL slot.

>>It is very clear now that the MEA and the Foreign Minister are mere spectators in affairs with respect to Pakistan.

Absolutely correct. Unfortunately, MEA appears to be stuck in a position of continuously fighting a rear-guard action on this ... Not much can be done about it, apart from traditional babu tactics. Nothing will come of all this of course, but it is a pain in the ass I'm sure to have a PM who is disconnected from certain key strategic realities.

But I remain sanguine (so far.. you never can underestimate our capability for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory)... I was very relieved to see KC Singh and Leela Ponappa on TV yesterday and their comments on the invitation of Gilani, a poorly informed man of limited intellect. It was suggestive of the thinking at MEA...

Meanwhile, it's a bloody lovefest going on... The entire Shah Mehmood Qureshi family is in Mohali (except the don himself - he couldn't not drag himself away from performing hamlet in front of the bathroom mirror). Many other RAPEs as well... Frankly, no objection to all that. Enjoy the game, spend as much money as possible and fu(k off. And no, you are not getting Kashmir. And yes, we want to talk about Balochistan :D

Can any BRFites in Mohali put up a poster "FREE BALOCHISTAN" and stuff like that and it would be aired all over the world? The pleasure to see the ungli in the groper's ass and the much deserved embarrassment to PM and other pseudo-intellects would be delightful. Its worth a try.

The words you are looking for are "PAKISTANI DOGS QUIT BALOCHISTAN". BRFites who are 30+ years old know what this means.

Need to move step-by-step by Kanwal Sibal
A sensible article as can only be expected from Kanwal Sibal.
We seem to believe that our over-display of readiness to engage Pakistan will goad it to respond constructively.
We want to celebrate together with Pakistan at Mohali the victory of sport, but over what? 64 years of conflict, unrelenting confrontation, territorial claims over Kashmir, promotion of jihadi groups, the onslaught of terrorism, the Mumbai carnage, the unwillingness to bring to justice those responsible for it?
The invitation extended to Zardari and Gilani short circuits the process agreed to at Thimphu even before it could commence. Instead of the carefully crafted step -by- step approach we have decided to do a hop step and jump, with a summit level encounter straightaway.
If top down trickle effect was to work to untangle the India-Pakistan relationship, the Manmohan Singh- Zardari meeting at Ekaterinaberg and the Manmohan Singh-Gilani meeting at Sharm-el-Sheikh should have already successfully galvanised the respective bureaucracies to make the desired headway. Earlier summits and unilateral comforting gestures by our leadership to Pakistan in the recent past should have by now, in fact, ushered in peace and friendship between our two countries.
Pakistan will continue to expect India to make the requisite concessions. It will still want Kashmir to be resolved and Siachen and Sir Creek issues to be settled in the interim. It will not want to lft the barriers to trade, will not punish those responsible for the Mumbai massacre, will not suppress the jihadi groups or place curbs on Hafiz Sayeed, will not hand over fugitives from our law, will oppose our presence in Afghanistan and deny us transit rights to that country. It will continue to expand its nuclear threat to India.

Wah wah.....what a resounding slap by Mr.Singh to all those who have suffered from Pak sponsored terrorism since independence...

From the article:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/wor ... le1962178/

Mr. Singh apparently decided, as soon as he learned that India would face Pakistan, that he would invite Mr. Gilani to the game. Spokespeople for India’s External Affairs Ministry report huffily that he “faxed off the letter himself,”

Re: The Raymond Davis issue. He was also investigating the FICN networks at the time he got arrested. He was a CIA consultant. Many moons ago I warned that TSP was printing British currency. Indeed it is true. Basically they suspect ISI backing for the printing operations. These operations are pumping money mainly to South East Asia.

Davis was a former officer fo the 3rd Special forces group. He's been working for private investigation firms for a long time.

Basically, these FICN investigatiosn have been going on for many years. In 2008, 2 consultants were arrested in the cambodian capital for investigating this. THey were forced to stop investigations.
