Internal Security Watch
Re: Internal Security Watch
SSridharji,
PMK sees MSA as a quasi-tamil.MSA is not seen as an Iyer.He is a rootless beef eater.Na gar kaa,na ghaat ka.Arasanai nambi purushanai vitta kathai.DMK/PMK has no problem with such wonders who represent only themselves.
Yet I have a nagging feeling. Why is he so alienated? Is there something wrong in the xenophobic/epicurean culture of Delhi Durbar which has made 'socialists' like MSA feel so worthless.
It is possible MSA is used by the Congress to confuse the tamizh chauvinists. Here is an 'Aiyer' speaking the language of 'human rights' thugs.
There is strong support for the killers.Because it is seen as extension of eezham war in India.LTTE has been decimated.A new front is being opened up.That is why even Jayalalitha is quiet.Rajiv is dead.Prabhakaran is dead.So tamizh nationalists claim the slate is even. One should 'try' to 'understand' the 'logic' of the LTTE supporters.
It is very easy to congress/PM/MKN.I have one question.Does the BJP have in it to handle tamizh nationalism? The answer is a RESOUNDING NO,as of today. They are junior players even in Punjab.
In 1994,the DMK/PMK walked out.CBN walked out.The BJP had no clue what was happening.
For all its faults,Congress engaged DMK.It broought PMK to mainstream.LTTE was finished.

Re: Internal Security Watch
svenkat ji,
'quasi Tamil', did you say ? May be so, at this point of time. But, never a full fledged Tamil. At other inconvenient times, even this 'quasi' tag would be dropped and he would be attacked vigorously. That is another matter, though. I don't know why the Congress should 'confuse' the LTTE-supporters in TN. I also don't understand how his statement 'confuses' anyone. It is crystal clear. He seeks overall abolition of death penalty. He lives in an utopian world.
There is 'strong support' for these three terrorists, not because of any widespread support for LTTE in TN or this is seen as an extension of war in Eelam. How can killing an ex Indian Premier and 16 other Tamils on TN soil or clemency to the killers be an extension of a war Sri Lanka ? The majority of Tamil population in TN detest LTTE for their murderous assaults on TN soil, its barbaric cruelty inflicted on other Sri Lankan Tamils and its intolerance of any other viewpoint. It looks like there is a 'strong' support only because the silent majority as usual do not want to come to the street and/or it lacks a commitment to counter the few who have whipped up the passion among youngsters and misguided them or politicians are trying to make political gains or do not want to take a strong position. The newspapers and TV channels are either under their control or are unwilling to say the truth and incur their wrath resulting in damage to their properties etc. This is a classic case of a vociferous and/or a violent few hijacking the narrative.
The 'clean slate' logic that you describe (I have never heard of this from anyone else before) is completely preposterous and morally as repugnant and abominable as the equivalence that Mani Shankar Ayyar and his ilk draw between a terrorist Pakistan and its victim India. I am not even prepared to countenance this argument.
As for BJP, it is not any different from other political parties, though they claim(ed) they are(were). None, it appears, has a fair national or strategic outlook. Their span is truly short-term. In the case of these three, it is not even short-term. Barring a few, nobody is going to weep for the just punishment meted out to those who waged war against India. Ethnic sub-nationalism would be a very divisive and damaging trend to the Union of India. Nehru handled it with a firm hand. The current UPA government is not governing, it is simply drifting as we have seen in many issues. It is indecisive and has an ambivalent attitude to most issues partly dictated by coalition dharma and mostly due to incompetence of the centres of power within it.
And, how did you arrive at the conclusion that the Congress/DMK combine managed to 'finish' LTTE ? I never believed that Indian efforts were a factor at all for Sri Lanka finishing off the LTTE.

for this lightweight to remain relevant, he cannot alienate the core support in his parliamentary constituency.
That is why he spouts anti BJP and anti RSS rhetoric 24X7.
He is deeply psychologically disturbed and has low self esteem.
His marginalization in politics has had a lot to do with his belligerent public posturing and his pro paki outpourings.

US cables: Moderate Hurriyat favoured hanging Afzal if he was guilty
"While they (moderates) were concerned that Afzal did not have adequate representation during parts of his trial, privately they say that he should be executed if he is guilty," a US cable released by Wikileaks last week said.
The revelation comes at a time when there is a heated debate, triggered by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, about clemency for Guru, who is on the death row for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack case.

My 2 cents, fix the hanging in December -January when weather conditions will make the riot for Hire stonethrowers coming out very difficult and pay the Indian Media and Kashmiri media to keep the hanging of the front pages and as an obscure piece of news.ks das wrote:Meanwhile if you guys have not read this:

A senior police official told rediff.com that the security was already beefed up in Hyderabad in view of the incidents in Adoni town, which was rocked by the communal riots after a gap of thirty years. Additional police pickets and paramilitary personnel were deployed in all the communally sensitive areas of the city, especially in the old city.
In view of the bomb blast outside Delhi high court, security was being further bolstered and bomb disposal squads have been pressed into service to start monitoring the long route of the procession from Balapur to Hussain Sagar Lake. The procession will be a big test for the police as lakhs of people participate in it every year.
Surprised that this has been a low visibility item in the print and electronic media. The riots in Adoni, which left about 100 people injured in clashes and stone pelting during the Ganesh procession, have set the alarm bells ringing in the administration as it has spread the tension in several other places especially in the communally sensitive towns and cities.
The communal trouble which started on Monday, continued on second day despite police clamping the curfew and opening fire.
Re: Internal Security Watch
No wonder they didnt report. After all its the Secular media.
There were clashes in March 2010 in Hyderabad and in which a Goshala in the Old City was attacked and Cows were killed. No one covered this story except ZEE News Telugu which showed the horrible pictures after the incident. This too was surprisingly taken off air after an hour.
Added later: Clashes during Ganesh nimarjan festivals in North Andhra (Adilabad, Nirmal, Bhaimsa ) have become common for the last few years. Seems this is spreading to other parts now. Its interesting to note that MIM is becoming active in these areas and this has been their favourite way to gain stronghold.

3 cops among 10 hurt in communal clashes
At least 10 persons, including three policemen, were injured tonight when communal clashes marred Ganesh idols immersion in Vadodara city and Balasinore town of Gujarat, police sources said here.
The violence in Vadodara erupted when acid bulbs were hurled at a Ganesh immersion procession, triggering clashes between two groups throwing stones at each other in two incidents at Panitgate and Yakoubpura localities, leaving three policemen and two civilians injured, they said.
The sources said at least three policemen were injured at Panitgate when one group hurled acid bulbs at the procession and police party. The police fired in the air to disperse the mob, they said.
Power supply in Yakoubpura area went off, triggering stone pelting among groups even as officials said this might have provoked some mischief mongers.
Director-General of Police K. Chakravarthi dismissed reports which said over 30 persons were injured in Vadodara violence.
The police arrested two officials of cellular phone companies on the charge of defying the police orders banning sending of SMS on account of the sensitivity of the occasion.
Members of two communities hurled stones at each other in Balasinore town of Kheda district, leaving at least five persons injured, prompting the police to explode teargas shells to disperse the warring groups, said the sources. One SRP jawan sustained minor injuries in a clash between groups of the same community at Rameshar village in Panchmahahls district of central Gujarat. — PTI

Nandurbar boils as stone pelting sparks riots, 2 killed
NANDURBAR: Two persons were killed in stabbing incidents during riots, which took place during the Ganesh idols immersion procession, in Nandurbar late Tuesday night
The riots and stabbing incidents have claimed lives of Asif Shaikh Samshoddin (40) and Krishna Kokani (35). Sixteen police personnel have sustained injuries when an enraged mob attacked them.
Tension had prevailed in the town after some anti-social elements pelted stones during the immersion procession in Sonar Khunt area here on Tuesday night. After the stone pelting incidents, volunteers of Ganesh mandals refused to move ahead in the procession. The procession was resumed only after midnight, following intervention by some senior political leaders.

Border deal raises a storm Mahanta reveals fencing anomalies
- DC reports flaws
UMANAND JAISWAL
Guwahati, Sept. 8: India may have ceded more Assam land to Bangladesh than is being officially acknowledged if one were to go by a Karimganj district administration report submitted to Dispur last month.
This was revealed by former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta this morning while dwelling on the questionable Indo-Bangla land swap deal, signed without any discussion with other parties or on the floor of the state Assembly or Parliament.
Mahanta said, “We demand that a session of the state Assembly be convened to discuss what actually is going on. After all, the government had taken oath to protect the nation’s sovereignty and territory. But the Prime Minister has not informed Parliament and the chief minister the state Assembly about the deal, the draft of which was circulated long back. Just see the manner in which West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee protested the proposed Teesta water treaty. The treaty was not signed in the end. Similarly, this deal could not have been signed without our chief minister’s consent.”
He read out portions from a comprehensive report on the affairs of the Indo-Bangladesh border with reference to the fencing constituted by the “dishonest” National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) and the National Project Construction Corporation (NPCC) in Karimganj district to drive home the point about how, allegedly, nothing had been done to prevent the loss of land to Bangladesh, an issue which has sparked widespread protests against Dispur and Delhi in the state.
Karimganj deputy commissioner Jiten Borgoyari in a startling report, Mahanta said, had pointed out that information available with his office suggested that both construction companies had flouted all norms while fencing the border.
It was found that vast areas have been left as abandoned areas between the fence and the border because the two companies worked without taking government guidelines into consideration. This provided the opportunity to Bangladeshis to encroach upon Indian land, claiming it to be adversely possessed.
According to his report, instead of erecting the fence 137 metres from the zero line, the NBCC and NPCC had left 1,000 to 1,900 metres of vacant land between the border and the fence, indicating that Assam must have lost more than was being officially acknowledged.
Karimganj shares a 95km boundary with Bangladesh and officially, around 500 acres of Assam land was in adverse possession of Bangladesh.
An additional deputy commissioner had written on February 22, 2010, to the deputy commissioner: “Overall supervision in connection with the implementation of border fencing by the agencies concerned compels one to say that without keeping national security in mind, both agencies have adopted dishonesty in implementing construction of the Indo-Bangla border fence, and obviously, correction of the anomalies is urgently required.”
The circle officer of Modonpur had reported to Borgoyari on August 19: “It appears from the report that Indian land could be adversely possessed by Bangladesh because of construction of the international border road and installation of fencing too much inside Indian territory, leaving vast quantum of land outside the fenced area, resulting in Bangladesh entering without any obstruction.” The NBCC and NPCC could not be contacted, while Gogoi has already dubbed the border deal as a “win-win deal” for all

5 Bangladehi terrorists crossed over to West Bengal.
KOLKATA: Five suspected Jamiyat-e-Mujahidden activists from Bangladesh have sneaked into West Bengal through Bagdah in North 24-Parganas district, officials at Writers' Buildings said on Friday. Though the gang of five activists managed to cross over to West Bengal, they left for different destinations after they entered Bagdah, sources said.
The names of these five Mujahidden activists were also available with intelligence agencies who are now busy tracking them down. It is learnt that the intelligence agencies have informed the state home department about the development which has alerted the North 24-Parganas police. Vigilance at all the Indo-Bangladesh border check posts in North 24-Parganas district has been intensified following the alert, the police said.

Sir ji, if you think Ahmedabad cops have atleast done something then read this. The site of Ahmedabad Civil hospital where blasts took place in 2007/08 STILL has no security apart from couple of laathi holding private security guards. Forget about CCTV cameras or even armed guard. Secondly, in above article police is talking about putting up more security at new Gujarat high court, where not many ordinary citizens like you and me will visit. Most of the ordinary people will be going to smaller courts in old city area and these bad guys will be targeting them to cause max damage. Part of the problem as stated in the article is shortage of cops. Now not sure, if this shortage is due to low wages or working condition etc..not to forget that just putting CCTV cameras does no good as we also need proper dedicated staff to monitor CCTV cameras to actually dodge the bullet of terror.ramana wrote:Atleast they are aware of the need unlike Delhi Police who didnt do anything even after a misfire bomb attack on Delhi High Court in May 2011.Gaurav_S wrote:Ahmedabad cops draw up plan to ensure security at Gujarat high court

Chhattisgarh gets around SC order, clears law for anti-Naxal armed force
Chhattisgarh gets around SC order, clears law for anti-Naxal armed force
Ashutosh Bhardwaj
Sat Sep 10 2011 Raipur:
Two months after the Supreme Court held that the deployment of Special Police Officers in the fight against Naxals was illegal, the Chhattisgarh Assembly last evening passed an Act authorising an “auxiliary armed force” to “assist security forces in dealing with Maoist/Naxal violence” and legalising existing SPOs by inducting them as members.
The Chhattisgarh Auxiliary Armed Police Force Act came into force with retrospective effect from July 5, the day the apex court passed its order.
“Despite anything contained in any judgement, order or decree of any court, each person working as SPO on the date this Act came into force will have a right to remain at the post,” says Section 11(3) of the Act.
“The Supreme Court termed giving arms to tribal youths employed as SPOs illegal... But this Act clearly says ‘Armed Force’,” said Congress MLA Mohammad Akbar, accusing the state of contempt of court.
The government said the Supreme Court had only pointed at the illegality of process under which the SPOs were employed. “We have given legal status to SPOs. Their payscale and training have been legalised,” Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar said.
Provisions of the Act
* Authorises an “armed auxiliary force” to deal with Naxals
* While minimum educational qualification is Class V, if an existing SPO is ineligible, he/she will be given requisite education.
* A member of the force is to be given around Rs 7,000 monthly, double of what the existing SPOs get.
* Members are to be given six-month training in arms, community policing and gathering intelligence.
* In case a member dies, his/her family will receive Rs 5 lakh relief, plus a government job.
* Members will be eligible to be recruited under Class III services of the state police.

Gaurav_S has a point.
However in defence of what is perhaps the most responsive, proactive and best governed state in India, let me add this (at the risk of sounding overly partisan).
The Guj governer, an INC appointee has been sitting on a whole host of bills, including those related to security and policing, for months now. Democracy or legislative supremacy, anyone??
The Guj police have shown remarkable freedom from political and vote-bank considerations that have hobbled other police forces in places like MH (e.g. ATS record, Malegaon farce etc), Delhi (post Batla house), Rajasthan (e.g. Ajmer dargah) or UP (e.g. Azamgarh, Rampur police camp attack). They've actually cracked some cases (and some terrorist/mafiosi skulls too in the process). There's been no repeats of Akshardham or (horrors) Godhra because the local enablers of the perps know they or their families won't get away easy under a barrage of minority-discrimination whine.
And so on and so forth. Say what you will, but Guj babucracy is today the most alert and security-conscious in the non-insurgency affected lands of India. Period, bar none. JMTPs and all that.

Re: Internal Security Watch
^^ To add to the above, t only illustrates the point that there can never be a fortress like defence of everything in the city... If hospitals attacked, guard all hospitals. Tomorrow, if malls attacked, start guarding all malls.
All places can never be guarded 100% at all times esp in a huge and densely populated country like India. we will keep getting hit over and over again till we take out the source of this scourge from head onwards.
