I respect your opinion but generally, in shows like these, the armed forces personnel are portrayed as the 'cool guys' thereby encouraging interest, recruitment and spreading awareness but in this case, these two muffins seem inclined to hog all limelight and act like they're chill dudes while the main subjects of the show are made to stand in front of the camera and answer questions that are scripted, making them look like geeks belting out formulae.pgbhat wrote:It is still loads better than not having a program showcasing our armed forces at all. Their program on IN was great, an eye opener for laymen like me. IMHO of course.

Re: Military Multimedia Content
sevoke,
I understand that their show is not everyone's cup of tea. But I think that you will be interested to know that Rocky's father was an Army Officer who made the ultimate sacrifice during 1971 war. Mayur is also son of a retired Air Force Officer and he too had lost his uncle, a Naval Officer, during 1971 war. Moreover, even the director of the show is son of a retired Army Officer. So, there is no question whatsoever of these guys being disrespectful.
In fact, I feel that Rocky & Mayur are being pretty clever. Those two guys came into limelight because of their food show which was highly popular. So, they are just using that popularity to convert foodies (which consists of nearly the whole Indian population ) into Military enthusiasts. And to be truthful, I am not complaining as I have learnt a lot of interesting stuff (like MREs) because of this. If these guys were to make a serious and "professional" show, most of the casual audience would not have watched past first 2 mins and you can bet that watching any subsequent episode would have been out of question. Take Mission Army for instance. MI is definitely the most outstanding program on Indian Armed forces that I have ever seen but a mango aadmi may be unable to tolerate watching a full episode. Coming from Military family, these guys are not as ignorant as they make themselves out to be. They are just fooling around to make a general viewer feel comfortable and then to hook him in.
So, while everyone may not enjoy their immature brand of humour, we do need all kind of programs. We first need Rocky & Mayur for initial indoctrination of unsuspecting future mujahids. It is only after this that the advanced madrassa education can be understood to become a fully fledged sooside bomber. (As you may have already guessed, I do love Rocky & Mayur's immature brand of humour. So, please ignore the bad jokes )
And I am sure that even you will admit to have learned from their shows. Considering the very short window of 20 mins, these guys dish out a lot of interesting info. I am confident that even the most ardent military enthusiast will learn a lot of stuff new to him from this program.
PS: During these food segments, these two guys are generally having an informal chat with soldiers. I find these chats very interesting and I think that they add a personal touch which most other shows don't care to emphasize upon. And in any case, the information given during food section is not all blabber. Most of it is very critical and important. The episodes on IAF's Jungle Snow Survivor School is an excellent example of that.

Sevoke,
i second Gaur sir's opinion simply because of the magic these guyss have done. everyone in my house used to watch this show during its sunday rerun. Even my five year old nephew. So you can understand the reach. These guys showcase what the men and women of the forces do in a very simple manner.

These two guys are foodies... incidentaly they cover the armed forces. I think these two guys have done a phenomenal job about educating the common man about Indian armed forces. the forces have given them phenomenal access and these guys have showcased our abilities well. sometimes looks funny but that is part of their charm.sevoke wrote:Why are these two clowns dressed like semi-tough wannabe Rambos? And why do they have to barge in for food in the mess halls in every episode? Wtf is their schtick? I feel they trivialize the seriousness of our forces. Its just immature and badly scripted.Vivek Kumar wrote:Garuds.

Gaurji, you explained it very well, they keep the average unwashed abdul glued to the show till the end. We armchair generals might feel bored as we think we know it all, there has been SO MANY nuggets of Info which has come out into the open through these guys (I will stop here)... Watch it all and its true impact will hit you...

<OT> I know both Rocky and Muyur well, </OT> It looks kiddish but it is all all per script. They have a self deprecating attitude but have always been VERY respectful of the serving men (I haven't seen a women on their show yet).
My 2 cents.

Thank You everyone. I am now convinced this show does more good than harm.
Re: Military Multimedia Content
Doesn't matter whether you like their anitcs or not, it's afterall a matter of personal taste. But tastes aside, I am confident that you will find most of their episodes really worth your time. There is a lot of interesting stuff in there for every jingo. Also, if you want to make a jingo out of any abdul friend of yours, introducing him/her to this program maybe the best place to start with.sevoke wrote:Thank You everyone. ^^^good point Gaurji, I would start with the Garud episode, he Siachen one is also good ditto for thr CJIWS episode. check Rocky's FB page for some cooooool pics
Re: Military Multimedia Content
Rocky and Mayur do an awesome job in bringing the armed forces into the mango abdul's view of the world. The fact that they also focus on something not generally associated by the mango abdul with armed forces, such as food makes it even more worthwhile.
There have been other high quality documentary series on Indian armed forces in a more serious tone such as those done by Mayurica Biswas (hosted by Maroof Raza) but their reach/audience is definitely not the mango abdul who thinks a fauji is a bandook-wala.

Re: Military Multimedia Content
TimesNow had presented us with an exceptionally inspiring series called "Heroes: Tribute to men who fight the Nation". The uniqueness of this series was that the whole story was Narrated by the Officer himself. Some, of the parts were posted here, but not all. So, I am posting the whole series here. Any jingo worth his salt must watch the whole series. Each and every episode is incredible and highly motivating to watch and missing any episode is committing a crime against self.
Into. All the serving and retired Officers are intoduced.

pt 2: Col Saurabh Singh Shekhawat, 21 PARA SF. Narrates the operation at Loktak Lake, Manipur which was an amazingly well executed operation.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381299.cms
pt3: Sq.Ldr. Manish Arora. Narrates his flight where the canopy of his Mig-27 blew off in mid air. With the face smeared in blood, watch how the young pilot managed to survive. Truly scary stuff.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381300.cms
pt4: Maj Balwan Singh, MVC. Kargil Hero who commanded legendary Yogender Singh Yadav. Recounts his experience of the battle on Tololing and Tiger Hill. You have to hear it to believe it. The most unbelievable display of grit and determination.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381301.cms
pt5: Cdr Nitin Yadav. A Naval Aviator who recounts his harrowing experience when a total electrical failure occurred on his Il-38. With only 15 mins battery backup, no cockpit instrumentation or communication equipment working and the oil temp & pressure skyrocketing, watch how the brave aviator holds his nerve as the plane could explode any second.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381303.cms
pt 6: Captain Vikrant Deshmukh. Recounts the incredible story of a CI ops in which he had participated.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381304.cms
pt 7: Lt.Cdr. Yaduvanshi. Narrrates the incident where he lead a Marcos Team on an anti Piracy Op.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381305.cms
pt 8: Maj A.K. Singh. Hero of 26/11 where he sacrificed one eye. He recounts that very harrowing incident in this video.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381306.cms
pt 9: Col Suleen Sharon, PARA SF. He was CO of 51 SAG during 26/11 and was co-ordinating operations on all 3 locations. Gives an overview of the unique challenges faced by NSG.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381307.cms
pt 10: Sq. Ldr. Tarun Kumar Choudary. Won Shaurya Chakra for saving lives on board his Mi-17 in Jagdalpur during a Naxal Attack. His story is as inspirational and incredulous as any in this program. Just hearing him recount his experience is enough to make one shiver. Incredible display of bravery and presence of mind.
http://www.timesnow.tv/Tribute-to-men-w ... 381308.cms
pt 11: Epilouge. All the retired Officers share some words. My fav part is the expression on the face Col S.S. Shekhawat on hearing a comment by Brig Kuldip Singh Chandpuri of Longewala fame. Makes me laugh every time I watch it.
