I respect your opinion but generally, in shows like these, the armed forces personnel are portrayed as the 'cool guys' thereby encouraging interest, recruitment and spreading awareness but in this case, these two muffins seem inclined to hog all limelight and act like they're chill dudes while the main subjects of the show are made to stand in front of the camera and answer questions that are scripted, making them look like geeks belting out formulae.

I understand that their show is not everyone's cup of tea. But I think that you will be interested to know that Rocky's father was an Army Officer who made the ultimate sacrifice during 1971 war. Mayur is also son of a retired Air Force Officer and he too had lost his uncle, a Naval Officer, during 1971 war. Moreover, even the director of the show is son of a retired Army Officer. So, there is no question whatsoever of these guys being disrespectful.

In fact, I feel that Rocky & Mayur are being pretty clever. Those two guys came into limelight because of their food show which was highly popular. So, they are just using that popularity to convert foodies (which consists of nearly the whole Indian population

) into Military enthusiasts. And to be truthful, I am not complaining as I have learnt a lot of interesting stuff (like MREs) because of this. If these guys were to make a serious and "professional" show, most of the casual audience would not have watched past first 2 mins and you can bet that watching any subsequent episode would have been out of question. Take Mission Army for instance. MI is definitely the most outstanding program on Indian Armed forces that I have ever seen but a mango aadmi may be unable to tolerate watching a full episode. Coming from Military family, these guys are not as ignorant as they make themselves out to be. They are just fooling around to make a general viewer feel comfortable and then to hook him in.

So, while everyone may not enjoy their immature brand of humour, we do need all kind of programs. We first need Rocky & Mayur for initial indoctrination of unsuspecting future mujahids. It is only after this that the advanced madrassa education can be understood to become a fully fledged sooside bomber. (As you may have already guessed, I do love Rocky & Mayur's immature brand of humour. So, please ignore the bad jokes

)

And I am sure that even you will admit to have learned from their shows. Considering the very short window of 20 mins, these guys dish out a lot of interesting info. I am confident that even the most ardent military enthusiast will learn a lot of stuff new to him from this program.

PS: During these food segments, these two guys are generally having an informal chat with soldiers. I find these chats very interesting and I think that they add a personal touch which most other shows don't care to emphasize upon. And in any case, the information given during food section is not all blabber. Most of it is very critical and important. The episodes on IAF's Jungle Snow Survivor School is an excellent example of that.

i second Gaur sir's opinion simply because of the magic these guyss have done. everyone in my house used to watch this show during its sunday rerun. Even my five year old nephew. So you can understand the reach. These guys showcase what the men and women of the forces do in a very simple manner.

I think these two guys have done a phenomenal job about educating the common man about Indian armed forces. the forces have given them phenomenal access and these guys have showcased our abilities well. sometimes looks funny but that is part of their charm.
Gaurji, you explained it very well, they keep the average unwashed abdul glued to the show till the end. We armchair generals might feel bored as we think we know it all, there has been SO MANY nuggets of Info which has come out into the open through these guys (I will stop here)... Watch it all and its true impact will hit you...

Doesn't matter whether you like their anitcs or not, it's afterall a matter of personal taste.

But tastes aside, I am confident that you will find most of their episodes really worth your time. There is a lot of interesting stuff in there for every jingo. Also, if you want to make a jingo out of any abdul friend of yours, introducing him/her to this program maybe the best place to start with.

Rocky and Mayur do an awesome job in bringing the armed forces into the mango abdul's view of the world. The fact that they also focus on something not generally associated by the mango abdul with armed forces, such as food makes it even more worthwhile.

There have been other high quality documentary series on Indian armed forces in a more serious tone such as those done by Mayurica Biswas (hosted by Maroof Raza) but their reach/audience is definitely not the mango abdul who thinks a fauji is a bandook-wala.

This great documentary on the Mig-29 was posted some years back. It even mentions why the Mig-29K doesn't have the grill intakes. I found it on YouTube and then in the BR Trash Can but recommend it to all BRFites who haven't seen it yet.
