It seems that Afghan soldiers called for fire after "Pakistan Army along with militants fired at them." Afghans have always said that Pakistani Army and militants operate together.

the paki aew does not seem to have any satcom blister on the roof. radar also looks small...smaller than the ereyie aperture.
our phalcon radar looks around 3X bigger.

k100/ks-172 is dead.russians held a competition for developing an ultra long range missile between novator and tactical missiles corporation jsc,in which the design of tactical missiles corporation came on top and its export version is now called rvv-bd.it will have a range of 200km. russia is signatory to MTCR so the range is limited well below 300km range under the mtcr guidelines. an rvv-bd can kill such a bird easilyanishns wrote:^^^ Good target practice for K100?

Its a Y-9 or Y-8 with nose modified.
Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
Google says the ZDK-03 is based on the Y-8, which "borrows" from the Antonov An-12. 1960's Antonov vintage which has been progressively tweaked by the Chinese.

Could the US/NATO strike be a 'quid pro quo' for the Haqqani hit on the US Embassy in Kabul? Intriguing argument- amongst others made here by Tariq Ali - a well known writer of ? origin

So why do it? Was it intended as a provocation? Is Obama seriously thinking of unleashing a civil war in an already battered country? Some commentators in Islamabad are arguing this but it's unlikely that Nato troops will occupy Pakistan. Such an irrational turn would be difficult to justify in terms of any imperial interests. Perhaps it was simply a tit-for-tat to punish the Pakistani military for dispatching the Haqqani network to bomb the US embassy and Nato HQ in Kabul's ‘Green Zone' a few months back.

India should also do something similar to treat them for 26/11 success.

The reaction from the US sounds conciliatory but stops short of being conciliatory enough. It is almost like yes, they deserved it
After the last years blockade, the US would definitely have established alternate lines for logistics. Routing through central Asia may be more expensive but I guess the system is in place.
Not sure whether bakhsheesh will follow the jhapad this time round.

Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
Just 30% of the supplies (Non destructive supplies, destructive come from air, rest from Russia) come from Pakistan. They have been progressively taking off the pressure. However, they don't want the NDS to come from Russia alone because of the BMD row etc. Also, Russians will up their demand once Pakis close down. It will be interesting to see how US manages this.P Chitkara wrote:The reaction from the US sounds conciliatory but stops short of being conciliatory enough. It is almost like yes, they deserved it

Slightly going overboard with imagination...
US should work with india and get POK freed up; set transit point from freed POK to Afganistan and get moving

Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
how POK will be connected to afghanistan...I think you better imagine Balochistan to be freed, it'll help entire planet earth...
Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
was referring to this map; here it shows POK and Afgan connected

This would result in killing 2 birds with one stone. We get back illegally occupied Kashmir by Porkis and U.S gets land route to Afghanistan.
Whether Baluchistan is freed or we get back POK, Porkistan disintegration is a done deal:)

IIRC the route over the wakhan coridoor is not particularly conducive to heavy vehicular traffic
Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
@ nits
I am sorry, you are correct, POK does touch Afghanistan to be effective...I never noticed slight elongation in satellite images...Karakoram highway passes from the same region, connecting china to this territory...

Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
Other than Paki side of Punjab and Sindh, rest of the co called country looks dysfunctional. Baloch, Pashtuns, Kashmiris, Waziris.. everyone wants out. Nice time to do some slices in order to create peace in the region.
Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
the wakhan corridor connects afghanistan to xinjiang. there is a road of sorts in some parts, but 100km of gap between road end and xinjiang border (wakhjir pass) per wiki. this route has been closed officially for 100 yrs.
as a route for trade to central asia, POK and wakhan corridor are not great, infact none of the land routes even via proper pakistan are that great...one needs either large rivers or railways to carry heavy trade volume cheaply or else khan std highways. none are present or likely to be present anytime soon.
we get our oil cheaper and easier from the gulf. and what can the CAR consume from us , with a total pop == NCR/

Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
Once you get POK, you can set up an air bridge for starters while the road connectivity comes up. Even the khans would be happy to help build the roads if we let them use it . Anything to get POK actually should be the motto - including giving khan a base in pok - will be a nice thorn in the puki and dragons side !!
Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
the thing is gulf oil will recede and CAR oil will become more attractive, plus the minerals
besides, i'm looking forward to the day when the gulf sheikhs run out of the sticky black stuff...

Maybe then they'll start selling their lamborghinis on the second hand market?
Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
49% of supplies go via Torkham & Chaman;
i read that Russia is also contemplating a closure of NATO supply-line from their side, though it isnt confirmed. They certainly have NATO by the balls though.

Reading about these wet dreams, a thought comes to my mind "Hanooz Dilli dur ast!"
The govt. of the day is hell bent on making peace and I would not be surprised if they settle for the LoC as the "de facto" border between us and the Pakis. The Pakjabis can probably let go of Balochistan and/or FATA but, POK is their "Jaguar vein!"
When was the last time you heard the Indian govt. even make a statement demanding Pakis to vacate POK? The only person who would talk about it was Bal Thakeray but, then nobody listens to him beyond the suburb of Thane anyway

I heard that Pakis are now admitting first fire and want a formal apology. (isn't it already offered?) Pakis regularly fire across the border in Afghanistan and US has been killing them for some time.
Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
There is a road planned in North-West to South-East direction which will connect Tajikistan and Chitral in Pakistan. This will pass through Wakhan corridor.
