High alert in States bordering Pakistan
A high alert has been sounded in all States, including Jammu and Kashmir, bordering Pakistan following inputs that militants from across the border could be planning some action in India, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said on Friday.

The situation was being reviewed on a daily basis and the “continuing flow of information'' suggests that militants could have identified some targets in India. “We have taken a decision to increase the level of alertness in the States bordering Pakistan and that obviously includes Punjab,” the Minister said at his monthly stocktaking press conference.

“Apart from the Jehadi groups, there is BKI [Babar Khalsa International] and some other Khalistan groups. We did bust a BKI module a few days ago. So, we have to remain in high alert in Punjab. We are working with the State government and we will continue to remain on high alert,'' he said.

Mr. Chidambaram, however, replied in negative when asked if there was revival of Khalistan movement in Punjab. “There is no revival. These are remnant elements from old groups. Many of them have fled the country; many of them have taken refuge in foreign countries. These are remnant groups. There is no revival of Khalistan movement.''

RSS office in Kannur destroyed in bomb attack
KANNUR: An RSS Karyalaya and another centre working under its control near the- Macheri AUP School at Aechur were destroyed in a country bomb attack early on Friday morning.

The first floor of the concrete building housing the RSS office was completely destroyed in the attack.

The furniture and other instruments kept in the office were reduced to ashes.

Two persons have been taken into custody in connection with the attack, according to the police.

As many as five country bombs were hurled at the RSS office, said local people.

The BJP-RSS leadership alleged that it was a group of CPM workers who organised the attack.

A 12-member gang who came in four motorbikes were behind the entire operation, they alleged.

Police deployment in the area has been strengthened following the incident.

it is a warning from CPM (with hidden blessing of Congress, who control the police) that they are getting too strong for their own benefit

http://www.malappuraminfo.com/info/kann ... 011-result

note the results, out of 11 seats, the LDF won in 6, the UDF in 5.
the bjp is positioned at number 3 in ALL seats.
Infact bjp votes were the reason for LDF losing in 3 seats.

NSG functioning without top commander for six months
New Delhi, Jan 1 (PTI)

The country's elite counter-terrorist force NSG is functioning without its top operations commander for almost six months as both the Home and Defence ministries have not been able to get a suitable Army officer for the job.

The last incumbent of the post-- Inspector General (operations) Major General R S Pradhan was repatriated from the elite commando force on July 12 last year even before he completed his stipulated three-year tenure.

Pradhan had joined the 'black cats' on June 21, 2010 on deputation from the Army.
Sources in the Home Ministry said that at a time when the NSG has spread its security web by deploying its crack commandos in various important cities across the country, the absence of the top commander can turn out to be a costly affair for the force in the possible event of a terrorist attack or an hijack attempt.

"The Home Ministry has twice drawn the list for appointing an eligible Major General rank officer in consultation with the Ministry of Defence but they have still not been able to find a suitable officer for the crucial post.

The NSG's fighting forces are under the command of the IG (operations) and the officer is next in command to the NSG DG in terms of operations," a top source said.

According to sources, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had some time back approved the name of a senior Army Major General but the posting has still not taken place. The Ministry of Defence, according to sources, is still to give its nod on the selectionThe IG operations commands both the 51 Special Action Group (counter-terrorist unit) and 52 SAG (counter-hijack unit) and is also responsible to pick the best commandos to be placed in these units in consultation with the IG Training of the force who is based at the forces' garrison in Manesar near here.

"The NSG is a small force of specially trained and highly motivated 'black cat' commandos. The IG operations ensures that the chain of command right from strike units to the force commanders is in place and the boys are ever-ready for a 'swift and lethal strike' at any hour of the day," an NSG commander who fought terrorists during the 2008 Mumbai terror attack said.

Last IG (operations) Pradhan's predecessor Major General S K Bharadwaj was also called back in a similar fashion by the Army headquarters cutting short his stint midway in NSG.
"This trend affects the efficiency of the force. The NSG is a fully deputationist force and if it does not get suitable officers it will cease to be a sharp and capable force," sources said.

The charge of the IG (Operations) is at present being held by the junior officer, a Brigadier rank Deputy Inspector General (DIG), for the last six months, raising questions over the overall command of commando units across the country.

The NSG, after learning lessons from the shortcomings during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, had deployed crack squads of 241 'black cats' each at Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata and recently Chidambaram operationalised the hubs at Hyderabad and Chennai by inaugurating permanent infrastructure facilities at these centres.

IM terrorist Yasin Bhatkal key suspect in Mumbai blasts
Shishir Gupta, Hindustan Times
New Delhi, January 02, 2012
Email to Author

Nearly six months after the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai on July 13, investigators may have made a breakthrough in the probe.

Technical inputs reveal that key Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Yasin Bhatkal aka Shahrukh was in Mumbai during the carnage and could have carried out
the three explosions that killed 26 people. A massive nation-wide manhunt is on as there are firm indications that he has not left the country.

Considering that IM co-founders Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal Bhatkal are in Pakistan, investigators had surmised that Yasin Bhatkal could have crossed the border after giving a Delhi Police team the slip last November.

Top government sources said that an IM operative of the Madhubani module disclosed during interrogation that Yasin was missing from Delhi when the serial blasts were engineered in Mumbai. This has also been corroborated by the Mumbai location of Yasin's mobile phone, which was seized when he slipped out of the Delhi Police team's reach in Chennai.

Senior investigators, however, clarified that this input could just be a lead for a proper probe but nothing can be said till there is a corroboration of events on the ground. “Shahrukh (Yasin Bhatkal) is at present below the radar and is hiding in the teeming ghettos in the country,” said a senior official. He had moved to Delhi from Mumbai last year.

Security agencies and police teams are questioning suspects about the places where Yasin's phone was used from.

The first indication of Yasin’s capacities and capabilities was revealed during the interrogation of arrested IM operative Salman aka Chhotu by the Uttar Pradesh Police's anti-terrorism squad last year.

Salman described Yasin as "aag ka shola (ball of fire)'' and the main pointsman of IM co-founders Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal.

Although Salman indicated that Yasin ran into trouble with the police over a fake currency racket in 2009, security agencies have found no substantiation in police records.

Calling it a “satisfactory year”, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today said that 2011 had seen a “historic low” level of terror and Naxalite-related violence in states affected by the twin problems. Number of militancy-related events in Jammu and Kashmir, in fact, were the lowest in 2011 since militancy erupted in the state 21 years ago.

Oh, no. These things aren't worthy of being shown on national TV because they would then defeat secularism which has been built with great struggle against heavy odds.

In the meanwhile, the Supreme Court rejects Maudany's bail plea.

Kati saar, here is the CBI judgment: http://www.cbi.gov.in/dop/judgements/padc.pdf
And one more: http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes ... ter-bleach

But the flight did stopover in Kraaachi, and if the arms were meant for SHW, what were the Kraachi-ites doing watching an arms consignment walk through their territory? Whatever it is, the fact that the convicted managed to get away so easily given that the Indian state can deng people forever for minor crimes suggests that GoI is not as dumb as people believe it to be. The CTG arms haul case could have been a reaction to this, just speculating.

But most definitely I dont buy the Ananda marg was the intended recipient, but the naxal violence did pick up in Purulia, but it took a good 9-10 more years for it to register a big blip and most likely that had to do with the MCC-PWG merger rather than Purulia. If there was any violence due to Anand Marg, it did nt register. Was it an anti-CPM op to impose President rule? We can keep guessing. Whatever, the last has not been yakked about it.

You keeping track of the arms haul case?

In the mean while at Bengaluru.
SC rejects Madani's bail plea
* Mahdani's lawyers says that he is handicapped, has severe back ache and he is charged with the crime of giving shelter to the accused in the blast. Court observes that even a handicapped man sitting at one place can cause damage.
* Mahdani's lawyers say that he needs to get bail to go for treatment at an Ayurveda Hospital at Kottakkal, Malappuram Dt., Kerala. Karnataka lawyers say that he need not go all that far as Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala have got good establishments operating in Bangalore.

So the bail plea is thrown out and Mahdani continues to relax at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara.

This is definitely a very curious case and needs to be checked further. Good work by airport security staff:

Army imposter suspected of Deendar link
City police, who have an Army imposter in their custody, identified as Samir Shamsher Rana, 40, suspect he has links with Deendar Anjuman, a homegrown sect that took to terror and dropped anchor in Pakistan.

Deendar Anjuman was banned after it triggered church blasts in Karnataka, Goa and Andhra Pradesh in 2000.

Rana was caught by HAL security personnel on December 29 when he sought to gain entry wearing Army attire and flaunting a suspicious identity card. He was handed over to Old Airport police on December 31, after his claims of being a lieutenant colonel were found to be false.
Sources in security agencies said Rana was suspected to be the brother-in-law of Mohammed Ibrahim, a resident of Marathahalli and native of Kerala. Ibrahim was one of the 11 Deendar men sentenced to death in connection with the church blasts.

Infrastructure being setup for secure intra-GoI communication
The latest report of the Department of Telecommunications, prepared by the working group on Telecom for the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17), underlines the urgent need for creating a secure infrastructure for government communication.

“A lot of intra-government communication is classified. The security of this communication has to be ensured by an alternative mechanism because neither is it advisable to wait for such a mandating and capacity building nor is it appropriate to rely on the level of security provided by such a scheme as communication would still remain in the open domain of Internet,” the report says.

Pointing to “capacity constraint” of the current Indian system that allows traffic to flow outside the country, the report says that an investment of Rs.450 crore is needed to “develop and deploy a pan-India secure network and network-based services such as email, VoIP mobile communication through a survivable and available network architecture for secured communication for government use.”

Wireless communication

While Rs.300 crore would be spent on establishing a fixed and wireless communication system for high security of classified government communication, Rs.100 crore would be for operational expenditure for the next five years and Rs.50 crore for research and development.

Interestingly, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) already has an internal system of communication that acts like a private Internet system, connecting various centres working on crucial defence projects, thus securing it from any kind of hacking or interception.

Located in Delhi, the Defence Scientific Information & Documentation Centre (DESIDOC)'s main function is collection, processing and dissemination of relevant technical information for DRDO scientists.

It also provides secure e-mail and Internet connectivity to DRDO labs through the networks of ERNET (of Dept. of Electronics) and NICNET (of the Planning Commission).

According to preliminary investigations, it is clear that the accused wanted to gain publicity by making it an issue, police sources said. Investigations are on to find the other persons involved.

Stan-saar (and Abhishek_Sharma saar and others):
There has been renewed interest in some circles about that arms drop case and connecting it with other events.......
First of all, no one believes that the arms were meant for ananda margis,.......were they meant for naxalites?....ummmm...possibly....but given that time frame, so much arms meant for Bihar-based naxalites was like giving a 10-ft pole to a foot-long dwarf to pole-vault.......uuhh........so, it was dropped in Purulia may be because the place is thinly populated, weak civil administration in that Bihar-WB border, surrounded by mafias, and ....possibly the plan was to ship them over ground to far areas like North bengal and then to Assam. But then wouldn't BD would have been a better place to send the arms to NE? May be some rouge elements within Zia govt hatched the plan. Arming the naxals to create havoc for CPM govt in WB was just a hogwash.
Then it was reported in the media that the arms shipment was ordered by a prominent Khaleda Zia govt figure, who also was involved in the Cox bazar arms haul. The plane stopped at Karachi for fuelling....Pak-BD connection is there....so possibly the big Panda was the one pulling the strings. kim davey was allowed to melt away with GoI's nod to keep track of the loose ends with possibly MI5 keeping track too. Davey was just a middleman............(ramana saar has compared Davey with Quattrocchi....but I doubt that).....please give your further inputs......

Coastal States put on Alert over 'ship carrying arms'
A telephone call from a ship off the Kutch coast to the US about an arms consignment has set alarm bells ringing in the security establishment, which have alerted the Navy and Coast Guard about possible arrival of arms and ammunition along the Indian coastline.

All the coastal States, including Gujarat and Maharashtra, have been asked to step up patrolling in the sea and keep an eye on illegal activities, official sources said here.
26/11 spectre

The security agencies believe that terrorists may try to replicate the 26/11 terror attack. The 2008 attack in Mumbai was carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists using the sea route from Pakistan.

The alert came following the interception of a telephone call on December 31 by a Central security agency, in which an unidentified person made a call through Thuraya satellite from a ship, which was at that time at Gulf of Kutch, around 8 km from the Gujarat coast, to a US number.

During the 232-second English conversation, the receiver enquired about the precise maritime location of the ship, consignment of the weapons, nature of the customs patrol etc, the sources said.

Acting on the information, the Centre has asked Coast Guard and Navy to intensify patrolling along coastline and high seas, check movement of ships and monitor fishing trawlers.

The security agencies suspect it to be an international gun-running operation and alerted all agencies concerned to take necessary steps to stop any such consignment.

Not sure if this can come here:

Tension continued to prevail in the border town of Rajouri, with Hindus opposing and Muslims insisting on offering namaz at an ancient structure on the premises of Government Higher Secondary School for Boys.
Rajouri is in Jammu, not Kashmir and Hindus are not in minority in Jammu as in Kashmir.

Interesting what is meant by 'ancient structure' & why would namaz be offered within school premises on the structure only.

On the other hand, the news looks completely different here
State Observer report.
More than meets the eye.

Subramanian Swamy gives evidence against P Chidambaram in 2G scam
New Delhi, January 8, 2012
Janata Party (JP) president Subramanian Swamy on Saturday gave a special court all the evidence he claimed would be sufficient to implicate Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G scam.
Swamy provided the court with certified copies of evidence - including the Shivraj Patil report on 2G spectrum - that Chidambaram was also guilty of breach of trust in question of national security since he did not disclose that Etisalat and Telenor, to which accused Swan Telecom and Unitech Wireless had diluted their shares, had been blacklisted. Also put forward were minutes of meetings and correspondence between Chidambaram and Raja; a letter from Chidambaram to the PM on telecom policy; the controversial Pranab Mukherjee note and a speech given by the PM to the Rajya Sabha.

Is Shahid Balwa Dawood’s aide?
March 06, 2011
Three days after the Supreme Court ordered CBI to probe into the national security angle aspect of the 2G spectrum scam, the Delhi high court will decide on Monday if one of the accused, Shahid Balwa, promoter of DB Realty (Swan Telecom) had links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Swan Telecom, now known as Etisalat DB Telecom, was allegedly favoured by prime accused, former telecom minister A Raja, in spectrum allocation.

Balwa was arrested in Mumbai on February 7.

He had moved the Delhi HC two months before it on December 3, 2010 against an official note from the ministry of home affairs (MHA) recommending Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to deny permission to Etisalat to invest money in a Chennai-based firm, citing as one of the four reasons that he shouldn’t be associated with the company either as a director or in other capacity as he has links with the underworld.

According to sources, MHA had objected to the proposal of the UAE-based Etisalat to increase its stake in its Indian arm, Etisalat DB, citing the Dubai company’s presence in Pakistan and Afghanistan. CBI and IB allege Dawood invested large sums of money in Balwa's firm, which was used by him to finance many of his business deals.

“Balwa made several trips to Dubai, Dawood's hideout, in his private airplane. Investigative agencies are seeking details of these trips from the DGCA”, said the source.

Pakistani flag hoisting was a Sri Ram Sene plot to foment strife, Police
According to the police, they allegedly hoisted the Pakistani flag and then blamed it on the town's Muslim community.

Meanwhile, members of the district unit of Sri Ram Sene have said the accused do not belong to their outfit but are members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

At a press conference here, they released several pictures to prove their point, alleging that the police had been pressured not to drag the name of the RSS into the issue.

Well-placed police sources, however, told The Hindu that the entire incident was carried out at the behest of an elected representative of the BJP, whose political agenda was to foment communal disturbances in the district. The sources added that the elected representative had instructed his supporters to destroy all evidence of his involvement, including photographs of the protesters and the banners of the organisation.
This is a most deplorable incident.

Yes but they succeeded in what they wanted 2008-09, why would they not try such gimmicks time and again. The Mangalore incident along, with Girls Suicide and Communist leader'ss Daughter's comments along with Renuka Chaudary's shennigans that all Major cities apart from Ahmedabad and Bengaluru fell into the lap of the INC and UPA.

My Doubts regarding the 3 incidents

1) Mangalore pub- Goons beating hapless women- Media was all in place before attack- but not one call made by any of them to Police. In fact in the videos one of the girls running away is blocked by a cameraman with a Camera and then one of goons goes and beats her up in front of the Camera. Some eyewitnesses are even reported to heard the word ACTION before the goons started getting into the Pub.

2) Communist leaders Daughter's kidnap- All sorts of wonderful allegations came on NDTV. Next day when police caught the culprits who were DYFI activists a low scale retrival was made

3) Incident no.3 Girl Suicide- Girl father and eyewitness account - Girl a Minor was Raped by Bus driver and did suicide after locals intervened and caught the culprit who was thrashed and sent to jail, NO Badjrang Dal and VHP involved. Media and Accused brother in Laws version, VHP and BD shamed the girl for affair and hence did sucide.

3 cases of false reporting in 2 days and INC/ UPA reaped 20/25 urban seats from it and Rapist(Even sex with a minor under 16 is rape as law) was Eulogist by Sikular gang. Best part I don't blame INC, Media for this. Fool the Indian Public once and Shame on Media/ INC, Fool Indian public repeatedly and Shame on me and my society. And they have successfully carried on with this game for 65 years.

Terrorist recruitment case accused shifted to new prison
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 10, DHNS:
Eleven accused in the Kashmir terrorist recruitment case, who were lodged in the Viyyur Central Jail at Thrissur district in Kerala have been shifted to the Poojappura Central Jail at Thiruvananthapuram.

This follows an order of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court, Kochi on Monday. However, the court rejected the request of the accused to send them to jails outside the state. The judge said they could only be lodged in prisons in the state.

The court asked the jail authorities not to shift them to any other prison without the prior permission of the court. The court also postponed the hearing in the case to January 20.
The shifted prisoners had created commotion at the Viyyur Central Jail on January 7, when they were brought there from Ernakulam prison. They refused to get down from the vehicle and demanded that they be allowed to stay in cells of their choice.

Following this, the jail authorities had expressed the fear that their behaviour was a part of a larger game plan. They also expressed the apprehension that the accused were trying to create communal tension inside the prison.

When the accused were produced before the court for the initial hearing, they complained of inhuman treatment by the jail staff. They created dramatic scenes in the court and said discriminatory treatment was meted out to them in the prison.

They showed the court some marks on their body and complained that it was from the torture by the prison authorities. However, the court assured the accused that they would get all protection as per the laws of the country.

According to the case filed by the NIA, the accused recruited youth from the northern districts in Kerala to carry out subversive activities in Kashmir. It also noted that Tadiyantavide Nazir one of the main accused has links with Lashkar e-Taiba. There are 23 accused in the case.

Three of them are still absconding and others have been arrested.

Anti-terror unit to get more teeth
The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) is expected to be an expanded form of the Multi-Agency-centre (MAC), the nodal intelligence cell under the Union Home Ministry.

Sources told Deccan Herald that the NCTC may not have “the ambitious reach” of the US NCTC that was set up in 2004 following the 9/11 attack, with a mission to “lead nation’s effort to combat terrorism at home and abroad.”

The NCTC may get cabinet approval this month. The new mechanism will be an umbrella body that would include, among others. the Intelligence Bureau (IB)’s MAC , Joint Intelligence Committee, National Technical Research Organisation(NTRO) and the National Security Guard. National Investigation agency (NIA) and the National Intelligence Grid (NatGrid) will also come under the NCTC. The Research & Analysis Wing will also share key information on terror with NCTC.

“Consultations with the states have completed as NCTC’s cross-country operational reach has to be matched with the Federal structure of the country,” sources said. The body will have overriding powers while pursuing the counter-terror cases.

No operational wing

The Indian NCTC will , however, not have “operational wing.” The US model, on the other hand, has around 500 personnel, drawn from 16 departments and agencies, for analysis and strategic operational plans .

The Director of NCTC in the US is a Deputy Secretary reporting directly to the president on counter-terrorism and to the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) regarding intelligence matters.

The Indian NCTC will be reporting to the Union Home Minister. It will, however, be accountable to the Parliament. The details of its command and control will be worked out shortly. Doubts about NatGrid remaining an independent entity have been dismissed at the highest level as it will also be “ subsumed” in the NCTC.

“The Finance Ministry is on board on the issue,” a top official in internal security said adding that NatGrid will not directly deal with the banks but seek information from Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) under the Finance Ministry.

According to senior intelligence officials, NCTC will be a vastly expanded form of MAC that was proposed following the 1999 Kargil intrusion. MAC was set up in 2001 to have faster accessibility to the intelligence information from across the country. It got legal backing in January 2009 when it held its first meeting under Home Minister P Chidambaram.

In the mean while.. the Paki flag raising event.
Pakistani flag hoisting was a Hindutva plot to foment strife, police say
From the news link..
The arrested are members of Sri Ram Sene, a pro-Hindutva outfit.
...
Meanwhile, members of the district unit of Sri Ram Sene have said the accused do not belong to their outfit but are members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The tactics seems to have changed. First the folks from Sri Ram Sene gets picked up. The crime is show cased as one being done by Hindutwa activists. When that does not hold good, the accused starts saying RSS is involved in it. And this accusation is taken as God's words and parroted again .

The Pakistani flag was hoisted in the early hours of January 1. Later in the morning, the accused, led by Rakesh Math, organised a protest in front of the Tahsildar's office, alleging that the Muslim community was behind the incident. The protesters blocked the road and hurled stones at buses before the police enforced order.

Hmm, last time I read Karnataka had a BJP CM, no?! And all the reports I have read say that the arrests were made by the Bijapur police, a part of the KA state police department. From what I know of civics 101, police is a state subject. IOW, the toothless tiger doing this presumed hackjob is answerable to the uber-nationalists of India. Lol, at that realization :).

So why exactly is the Congress to blame here? And the usual titillated attempts to bring in Nehru, Congrez, Sonia, duh... Brf should have a new rules-Bill Maher style:
Anything and everything will eventually be tied to nehru and jesus christ. Because life is a 100 million year conspiracy that was cooked up by caroe. And if you did nt believe that you are less Indic/dharmic than the uber-nationalists of the forum.
