The National Green Tribunal on Friday suspended the Jan 2011 environmental clearance to Posco's mega steel project in Orissa. The tribunal has slammed the environment ministry for the way the clearance was provided. It has also asked the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) to review it afresh.
The cancellation of the environmental permission for the Posco project, the biggest FDI investment in India, comes after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured South Koreans their "investment" was safe.
"Investment from Korea is a priority for India," Singh said in Seoul on Monday. "We will take pro-active steps to address investor grievances and improve the business climate in the country. I urge Korean industry to have faith in India," he said.
