This title is hilarious. I can understand Anglo-Indians calling their colony in India "Little England", but this is hilarious. I suppose British citizenship is the highest "rutbah" (spiritual rank) of the Paki slave.

How city of Mirpur became 'Little England'

Charming, how closely the bast@rd child of British colonialism (Pakistan) is connected to its mother England. But the ending is dark.

First it started off as a continuation of England's colonial love with Pakistan, and this story begins with the flooding of a river in the north-west of the Indian subcontinent -
In the 1960s, the original town, where Saleem lived - along with scores of villages around it - was submerged.

With the help of an English firm, Pakistan had built a huge hydro-electric dam on the Jhelum River close by.

It meant that more than 100,000 people had to leave their homes.

But the British government needed more workers at the time, and decided to give many of the Mirpur evictees permits so they could go to the UK to work in factories in the Midlands and the north of England.
But the backflow dream apparently looks like its about to end, and the journey westward, Out of India, looks set to become permanent:
Future fears

But then he raises, as he sees it, a bigger issue.

"I give it another generation or two, then these links will be over anyway," Zahoor says.

He feels a process of disengagement between Mirpuris in Britain and their place of origin has suddenly started to accelerate, thanks to problems in both countries.

"In the UK, money's become tight," he says, "and not so many can afford to spare enough even to pay the expensive fares to fly here, so young people aren't getting to know the place."

"And in Mirpur, the authorities have managed things so poorly," says Zahoor, "it will put people off investing."

Rafay, the baker, has similar worries.

"Look at the energy problems in Pakistan," he says.

"Gas and electricity are unreliable and it affects business.

"We're almost running our bakery here as a charity to help give people employment, but others won't be able to afford to do that."

Fear about security in Pakistan is also likely to be playing its part, and it could all spell the beginning of the end, at least, of Mirpur's reputation as a Little Britain in Pakistan.

On the other hand, ISI just told R&AW that there this particular source of info is compromised. R&AW also did the right thing to pass the info to Mumbai police. In such critical matters, triggering a false alarm is way less harmful than failing to set off the alarm when required.

The tough decision for UK is that UK stops all aid to Pakistan as they themselves have no money, The tough decision for Pakistan is that it swallows this bitter pill.

Pakistan successfully test fires nuclear capable Ballistic Missile
Pakistan Thursday conducted a successful training launch of Short Range Ballistic Missile Hatf III (Ghaznavi), which can carry nuclear and conventional warheads to a range of 290 kilometers. The launch was conducted at the conclusion of the annual field training exercise of Army Strategic Force Command. The exercise was aimed at testing the operational readiness of a Strategic Missile Group. He said that the nation had developed a strong nuclear deterrence capability and expected that the officers and men entrusted with the task of deterring aggression would continue to train hard and maintain professional excellence. He said that Pakistan’s Armed Forces were fully capable of safeguarding Pakistan’s security against aggression. The successful test has also been warmly appreciated by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, who have congratulated the participating ASFC troops, the scientists and the engineers on their outstanding success. It should be mentioned that two weeks ago Pakistan test-fired an intermediate range ballistic missile, seen as a response to India’s launch of its new long-range Agni V, capable of hitting targets anywhere in China.Defence analysts say India’s strategic priorities are moving away from Pakistan to focus more on China, while Pakistan is still worried about its old foe.

http://www.thenews.com.pk/article-48460 ... s-protests
LAHORE: Power crisis took a bad shape across the country on Thursday as the shortfall reached 8,200 MW, prompting enraged citizens to take to the streets to vent their anger in violent fashion.Loadshedding up to 14 hours is being undertaken in major cities as a result of the power shortfall reaching, according to the Ministry of Water and Power, to 8200 00MW. The situation in small cities and villages is even worse where the duration of electricity outages has jumped as high as 22 hours. The Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have expressed their inability to continue supplying power due to not getting furnace oil and gas, the Water and Power Ministry said. The worst loadshedding has completely paralyzed everyday business and other activities of life while due to electricity crisis many areas are also witnessing water supply problem that has further added to the miseries of the citizens. The enraged residents of the worst-affected areas came out on streets to lodge their protest which took an ugly turn when demonstrators caused heavy damage to public and private property running in hundreds of thousands.

Red Cross suspends Pakistan work after killing
ISLAMABAD: The Red Cross on Thursday suspended most of its aid projects in Pakistan and recalled all of its foreign staff to the capital, following the brutal murder of a British worker.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said it had put on hold activities run from Karachi and Peshawar, while it reviewed its operations after the killing of Khalil Dale.

...

“The recent attack against the ICRC compels us to completely reassess the balance between the humanitarian impact of our activities and the risks faced by our staff,” said Jacques de Maio, ICRC’s head of operations for South Asia.

The 60-year-old Dale’s mutilated body was found outside Quetta on April 29, four months after he was abducted.

ICRC activities in Quetta were frozen in the aftermath of Dale’s death, the aid group said.

...

“In the coming weeks, the ICRC will announce a decision on its future presence and set-up in Pakistan.”

Some of the expatriate staff recalled to Islamabad will work on the review process, while the majority of local staff in Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar will go on paid leave, ICRC said.

It is a political consensus of the Indian political class - based on the core panic need to prevent Pakistan collapsing to the extent that its populations merge with India. The fundamental drive of north Indian, UP and Delhi based post-Independence rulership has been to keep out the peripheral Muslim - the non-UP Muslim, the Punjabi and the Bengal Muslim.

Given that the Islamabad regime may fall anytime over the next 5-10 years, unless steps are taken to bolster it up - New Delhi will desperately fight to preserve some formal notion of the non-existent Pakistani nation.

US to debate bills calling for economic restrictions on Pakistan unless Nato routes reopen
The draft bill calls for a bar on preferential import of goods and services from Pakistan and reducing aid to just 10% of available funds unless Pakistan re-opens the Nato supply route and extends cooperation.

Transcript of CNN-IBN discussion on the topic “Are Hindus being persecuted in Pakistan?” hosted by Sagarika Ghose involving a panel made up of Rita Manchanda (WKK?), Tarun Vijay, Sushant Sareen and from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Marvi Sirmed

Face The Nation: Are Hindus being persecuted in Pakistan?
1. Except Sushant, Tarun and Marvi, this was a joke. I mean to be more precise, the two aunties Sagarika and a certain Rita were a total joke. Can someone tell me what is it that Tarun Vijay said in the beginning that led both aunties to immediately tag whatever he said with hatred and then do an == with India and then declare that we should be fighting bigotry in whole of South Asia. I ask why not South Africa?

2. When a Pakistani Marvi Sirmed herself indicated that madrassas are institutions for excellence on hatred and terror, Sagarika then says minorities are being persecuted because of rise in religious nationalism which is a consequence of war on terror. So America is indirectly responsible for Rinkal Kumari's abduction and rape. Before war on terror Pakistan was paradise for minorities I guess. A Rhodes scholar surely hasn't studied history well.

3. According to human rights aunty, there are some cases which bring hope and an example of that is a case of a girl named Neelam Ludhani where the court upheld that she should remain with the man who abducted her but the man should have a property in her name just in case he marries of other woman since he is a Muslim and Neelam is thrown out. Sagarika agrees to this point of hope and says court supported the woman (so court directing a woman to stay with the man who abducted and possibly raped her is being supportive for these aunties. According to human rights aunty, this is also an example of judicial activism!!). Both of these aunties are nuts and lack common sense.

There’s been a welter of confused commentary in Britain following the sentencing of the men – eight of Pakistani origin and one from Afghanistan. The lazy conclusion has been that there’s a link with Islam, or perhaps with ‘Asian culture’ or perhaps Pakistan.
Djinns must be responsible.
The concluding paragraph also localized the issue
The answer may lie in a mix of tribal practices, traditions of patriarchy, racial stereotypes and gender bias. Force marriage in Britain, for instance, is not only about Muslims or Pakistanis – in fact, it is restricted to very specific cultures and contexts. Sixty percent of cases British diplomats deal with in Pakistan are concentrated in the Kashmiri towns of Bhimber, Mirpur and Kotli, where strong family connections are valued, and children often expected to marry first cousins.
Maybe all it requires is the resolution of cashmere

Fairly robust indictment of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan by Tarek Fateh.

The reference to the Black African population is presumably that of the Siddi’s?:
For over a week, Lyari — inhabited mostly by Karachi’s Baloch and black African population, the indigenous residents of the city — was cut off from the outside world with no electricity, water, telephones or Internet links.

The government of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari justifies this medieval siege by insisting the area is a hotbed of drug gangs and a crime mafia that has resisted the “writ of the state.”

This from a government that refuses to send its troops into North Waziristan, where a fully-equipped renegade army of the Taliban wages war on next-door Afghanistan.
And yes, where indeed is the Mohammadden Ummah hiding while co-relgionists are being slaughtered by co-religionists?:
“Are we Baloch Muslims children of a lesser God? Are we not as Muslim, as Palestinians or Arabs, to deserve an outcry by the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC), to tell the Pakistan government to stop the massacre of its Baloch population?”

That is one part of it where she talks of the 'image' problem in Pakistan.
What I meant was an objective talk / presentation to just introduce the country to an audience which doesn't know much about it in the first place. Something structured on the lines of History, Geography, Demography, Economy, Geopolitics, Armed Forces etc ..
Given the current situation, I doubt if any Paki can address an audience without they cringing or puking (ala Harbans ji :D ) midway.

No, wannabe Araps of Bakistan are more pious Muslims than the Baloch and are the defenders of the ideological frontiers of Islam. Even the real Arabs of the OIC don't give a **** about the wannabe Araps of Bakistan.

Massacre? What massacre? Muslims do not kill Muslims. The outcry by the OIC for the Palestinians was because of Kaffir Israel killing Muslims. Peace!

RCase ji,

Actually arbas call Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis as hindi people! I've heard Pakis complain that when they meet Arabs on Haj and introduce themselves, the Arabs look surprised as to why does a Hindi have an arabic name. :rotfl: Oh dear! In your 60s that might come as a shock, having lived or convinced yourselves all your life that your forefathers didn't covert but were in one of the invading muslim herds.

Pakis have an identity problem especially the Punjabi mussalman. Sindhis are comparatively content and admit they converted, though the recent incidents of rape of Hindu minor girls suggest that radical Islam is making inroads.

NATO ‘dumps’ Pakistan from Chicago summit
Brussels: NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has now claimed that Pakistan has not been invited to the upcoming Chicago summit to be held on May 20-21.

Rasmussen also asked Pakistan for “immediate restoration” of the NATO supply routes, which were closed in the aftermath of the death of 24 Pakistani soldiers on November 26 in a NATO attack, reports The News.

The announcement comes after a US Congressional Committee passed a bill imposing conditions on Pakistan for receiving American economic and military aid. The bill seeks certification from the Defence Secretary that Pakistan is committed to supporting counter terrorism operations in the country, and also prohibits the preferential procurement of goods or services from Pakistan till Islamabad re-opens the NATO supply routes.

According to earlier news reports, Pakistan had decided to participate in the summit in spite of strained relations with the US. The Daily Times had earlier reported that Pakistan agreed to take part in the summit on the special invitation of US President Barack Obama. Sources had also revealed that Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari would meet Obama during the visit and request for financial aid to strengthen the country's economy. The Chicago summit will be the biggest NATO summit in history, with more than 60 countries and organisations represented.

AoA! How can Pakistani Americans increase Pakistan expertise?
A fair but pointless question. The usual chest beating and all inclusive "South Asia" blame game.
At a time when America was enmeshed in the unpopular Vietnam War, he told me, budding US scholars found the nation of Gandhi more appealing than the one mired in military dictatorship. The US counterculture’s affinity for India was a factor as well, he adds. Today, America still has nothing like the Centre for the Study of Pakistan at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
In more recent times, many aspiring scholars have shied away from visiting and doing research in Pakistan because of visa problems or security concerns. :-?
Visa problems for Americans seeking to visit the land of the pure? Yeah right! The real reason why I posted this article in this thread is not because of the subject matter. Here's the real reason: Read some of the comments:
I live in Canada but never hide the fact that I am from Pakistan. If educated people pretend to be Indians, then we are benefiting India and doing a disservice to Pakistan. Whenever I get a chance, I try and present the positive side of the country to local Canadians. Pointing them to websites focused on Pakistani art, fashion, architecture etc. does help a lot.
Lotia sahab - Canadians do not bother looking at art, fashion etc of Pakistan after hearing about daily beheadings, blasts, killings, terrorists, acid attacks, voilence etc etc from Pakistan.
Their ethnic composition and related intra-Pakistan-ethnic conflicts in America constitutes the problem. Majority of Pakistani-Americans from different ethnic background do not socialize together.
Well, of course, many of us living in America portray ourself to be Indians. And, might agree to a Pakistani label only in private. Nothing wrong with that. I can take my grandfathers and grand grandfathers nationality instead of my fathers, can't I?
This is very shocking. I live in the US. My parents were born in India. A lot of my relatives are still in India. But I can never imagine calling myself an Indian even by mistake. Mr. Ahmed, I hope you belong to a very small minority.
The author is wrong, Americans have come to understand Pakistan very well indeed. Being stabbed in the back concentrates the mind wonderfully.
AoA indeed!

How Pakistan Lets Terrorism Fester
By Haqqani sa'ab.
ON the anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death last week, Pakistan was the only Muslim country in which hundreds of demonstrators gathered to show solidarity with the dead terrorist figurehead.
Today, Pakistan is polarized between those who envision a modern, pluralist country and those who condone violence against minorities and terrorism in the name of Islam. Many are caught in the middle; they support the pluralist vision but dislike the politicians espousing it.
Here's where I think haqqani chose to go easy on the agencies and PA to save his skin:
We still don’t know who enabled Bin Laden to live freely in Pakistan. Documents found on computers in his compound offer no direct evidence of support from Pakistan’s government, army or intelligence services.
Pakistanis are right to see themselves as victims of terrorism and to be offended by American unilateralism in dealing with it. Last year alone, 4,447 people were killed in 476 major terrorist attacks. Over the last decade, thousands of soldiers and law enforcement officers have died fighting terrorists
Militant groups were given free rein, originally with American support, to resist the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, and later became an instrument of Pakistani regional influence there and in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Folks I am digging into the study of Patahs. Lots to say, but theere is some interesting info. Exploitation of Pathans by Pakjabis. But before I can write anything I need to read. meanwhile here is a link to a forum where Pathans only have contempt for Pakjabis. What is sobering is that the posts are so unlike pakipig posts/boasts. Interesting - even if it is only one opinion. But more on the subject is coming.

http://dapukhtanomajlas.pakhtun.com/vie ... t=124#p190
Panjabi is not a race like Pashtuns. Even a Pakhtun who lives in the province of Panjab is a Panjabi because he is living there but by race or language he is Pashtun. using Panjabi as a race pr people is a misnomer which must be rectified , Panjab is land of five rivers PANJ=FIVE , AB= WATERS OR RIVERS .

Panjabi as a language is a very weak language , its very similar to Urdu and has never been a medium of instruction or a court language . It does not have any strong literature as compared to Pashto. Pashto has a rich literature and is the official language of a country Afghanistan.

There is no any such culture as Panjabi, it can be Indian, Hindu or Sikh but not Panjabi as such

There is no Panjabi nationalism like Pakhtun nationalism
There is no Panjabi movement for promulgation any Panjabi culture on Pashtuns even the Panjabis themselves are leaving their language and culture and all these educated Panjabis now mostly speak Urdu and not Panjabi

Keeping all this in view I dont understand why we Pashtuns are so much afraid of Panjab and Panjabis and blaming them for all our faults and problems

I see in a remote Pashtun village when they write Urdu on their sign boards , who is that Panjabi who is telling him not to write Pashto instead.
I want to generate useful, intellectual discussion on few myths that we are living with them for the last many centuries, much have been written and spoken on the other side what I write like Panjabis being enemies of Pakhtuns, Tajiks being our enemies etc

Look at the history of Pakistan , has there being any important Panjabi president or prime minister , no ,,,,,,,,,the same in Afghanistan, all presidents/kings were Pashtuns(for Tajiks and Pakhtuns I am thinking of a new thread) in Pakistan, Muhamamd Ali Jinah, Liaqat Ali Khan, Ayub khan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Musharaf, Asif Ali Zardari , etc all are non Panjabis, even Nawaz Sharif is a Kashmiri, not pure Panjabi. The present prime minister Gilani is Seraiki, not pure Panjabi. What I want to prove is that the ones who remained at the helm of affairs in Pakistan were non Panjabis.

Then Panjabis are not that much nationalists as Pakhtuns, Sindhis, Baluchs, etc They being a race are a very weak group, there are many races and castes , even they are not a nation or one race, the people in the area of Panjab are Panjabis, not like Pashtuns who are one race, one blood, one genealogy, Panjabis have many langauges, many religions, many races, many castes, different cultures, there is not a single political known party on the name of Panjabis like Pashtunkhwah Mili awami Party etc,
Another resembling case of Panjabis is the name Hindu. Hindu is again not a race or nation, the people living near the river Indus are Hindus, whether they speak Hindi or not, there are thousands of languages in India, thousands of races and many religions all are not Hindus .

Another connotation of being Hindu is religiously Hindu , but again Hinduism is not purely a religion .Its a social order. People can take name from the area where they live but this does not make them a race. It will have a name like Panjabis, living in the area oçf Panjab but racially they are either Gujars, Rajpoots, Chudris, Sardars, Jats, even Baluchs, Pakhtuns etc

One person can have many identities, being a human being, then living in the area of Panjab, Panjabi, by race Pakhtun, by religion Muslim, by political nationality Pakistani, by profession teacher, by blood relation son or father, etc

My point is Pashtuns are superior to Panjabis being a race , one language, one blood not like Panjabis who are a diverse group of races and people and religions,,,`Pashtuns should not afraid of Panjabis,,,,,Panjabis cant do anything against Pashtuns,,,,,,,Pashtuns are enemies of their own selves , not the other way round that panjabis being a race or people are their enemies.

Trading With the Enemy
Why was the army suddenly interested in trade with a country traditionally perceived as a threat? Reluctantly, the officer answered, “The economy needs to be brought up. If business councils feel trade with India will help, we have no problem with it.” And then, almost as an after-thought, he added, “It (an improved economy) will also affect the military’s budget. Larger the cake, larger the share.”
Typical paki military. They aren't concerned about people or economy. They are concerned about their share of the cake.
While these might seem as pressure points on the Pakistan Army to develop trade ties with India, the Military Inc has plenty to gain through the various business interests under its control. In industries such as cement, sugar, construction, power and gas, the military has a direct presence.
Only army in the world with predominantly business interests and outsourcing strategic interests to non state actors.
Former Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries chairman Majid Aziz says cement and power could be areas where the military could directly benefit. “Honestly, there is no limitation. Who knows, tomorrow the Pakistan Navy might want to import Nano cars from India,” he says. In the power sector, Aziz believes that there is a huge potential if RBI allows Pakistani investment. “Like yesteryear Bollywood actor Mahmood said, Baap bada na bhaiya, sabse bada rupaiya (It’s money that makes the world go round),” he adds.
Well, thats funny! Why the hell does paki navy need Nano cars?

It makes one thing clear, in public they pretend they have nothing but contempt for Indian products. But, secretly they admire anything and everything Indian.

PM Gilani's interview to CNN. VIDEO - Pakistani PM: 'Trust deficit' with U.S.

This is the most funny clip ever. This is not an interview, CNN's Becky Anderson in all likelihood seems to be interrogating groper.

Some hilarious comments from the interview

Gilani says he'll morally resign when he is disqualified by the speaker.

When Becky says your govt. is dysfunctional groper says either you have democracy or you should say dictatorship.

Becky asks groper that according to Gallup poll, 1/3rd of Pakis are so frustrated that they want to leave the country, Groper says why don't they? :rotfl:

The self-righteous CNN should interrogate interview Mush/Kiya-nahi etc. like this. Instead they declare the Paki jairnals as powerful, trustworthy, and staunch US ally while they attack the weak Pakistani civilian govt. Shame on you hypocrites!

It is clear from this video that Hindus are treated as 2nd class citizens of Pakistan. See what Musharraf govt told Hindus. It clearly shows the treatment meted out to them. "You have been given a lot already. Don't ask more now". This is not the language that should be used by any Govt towards anybody be it minority or majority. But then this is Pakistan. Can you imagine something like this being told to Indian minorities by GoI? Also observe the words used by the anchor "We are here to listen to your complaints. We want to solve your problems" There is a clear indication of how they look at Hindus. "We" "You". Sucks.
