ramana ji,
you have a point. One of the etymologies proposed for Hekate [in Greek no H - but if we follow Shiv-ji's proposal that Sanskrit S->Avestan/Iranian H ->Greek E - it can make sense], is "empowerment/will-force", that one by whose "power" prayers/wishes are fulfilled. This is according to Hesiod's interpretations. Sanskrit "shak" is the enablement/capacitance root.

I guess the ISRO security guys are the mentally challenged ones here for allowing her to stay undetected for 2 days and lettting her roam around for 4 hours and almost intot he ineer sanctorium.

My concern is this case was publicised what about previous ones if any?

Getting a security card in Kerala is a joke.
Are the ISRO security cards so easy to duplicate and why did that shop in Kerala do that duplication?

Mulayam Singh's self-centred politics will eventually blow up in his face. The longer he remains associated with UPA, the more he courts the anger of the electorate in Uttar Pradesh and elsewhere. Nobody believes that he supports UPA to keep the "communal forces at bay". Laloo Prasad Yadav duped Bihar's Muslims with the same slogan, but not for long. Mulayam Yadav will meet his come-uppance very soon.
Nothing new but some reality check for newbies -

For Indian Muslims, whoever fights against Hindu interests are Secular. Same goes for Indian Christians. So Secularism works only as long as it is anti-Hindu in its definition and nature. The moment secularism turns its face against Christian/Muslim interests, secularism is dead.

No wonder long time ago some of us felt that Indian Secularism survives only because of Hindus and not Indian Christians or Indian Muslims.

A couple of more awful incidents: 5 year old kidnapped then killed by 19 year old hotel mgt student in Pune; youth in Lucknow commits suicide on webcam after heated argument with girlfriend. Earlier, a gang rape in Haryana where the victim's father commits suicide in shame... What the hell is going on in India? Why are these type of sick incidents being reported just about every day in some corner of the country? Where is the Indian restraint, forbearance, depth and maturity? The ability to roll with the punches, take things in stride, look beyond the horizon, see the vast canvas of life etc? And I'm not trying to blurt out cliches. This is really getting disgusting.

The absence of dharmic education in schools is creating a generation of rootless shallow people easily swayed by petty emotions and greed. Till you don't drill Gita, Rig Veda, Upanishads, Ramayana and systems of Hindu philosophy into our school children, this will keep happening.

Hear him fair
Blog nationalists and keypad activists can't understand it—why the butcher of Mumbai Ajmal Kasab is given a high security prison cell costing crores to build and maintain, or why he was given a lawyer at the expense of the state, instead of shooting him on arrest or prosecuting him fast and hanging him on the nearest banyan tree. Even middle-rung leaders of political parties have ridiculed the Indian state for treating Kasab to biryani.

Through a judgment in another case, involving another Pakistani accused in a bomb blast, the Supreme Court has answered such critics. Hailed by jurists as one of the finest examples of the fairness of the Indian judicial system, the August 31 judgment in the Mohammed Hussain @ Julfikar Ali v. The State (Govt. of NCT) Delhi case has held that even a Pakistani national, accused of perpetrating an act of terror in which four innocent bus passengers were killed, has a right to be defended by a lawyer in court.
Hussain filed an appeal in the Supreme Court. The issue before the division bench of Justices H.L. Dattu and C.K. Prasad was whether Hussain had received a fair trial. They found that he had not, because he had not been represented by a lawyer to defend him. “Not only was the accused denied the assistance of a counsel during the trial but such designation of counsel, as was attempted at a late stage, was either so indefinite or so close upon the trial as to amount to a denial of effective and substantial aid in that regard,” observed Justice Dattu in his judgment. Justice C.K. Prasad concurred with Dattu's view that “the conviction and sentence... deserved to be set aside as he was not given the assistance of a lawyer to defend himself during trial”.

But the judges differed on what to do next. Dattu desired that the case be sent back “to the trial court for fresh disposal... as expeditiously as possible at any rate within an outer limit of three months....” But Prasad found that Hussain had already been in jail since 1998 and been “dying every moment while awake from the day he was awarded the sentence of death more than seven years ago”. Many of the witnesses may not be found now for a re-trial. So he directed that Hussain, who has admitted to be a Pakistani, “be deported to his country in accordance with law, and till then he shall remain in jail custody”.

Since it was a split judgment, the case was referred to a bench of three justices—R.M. Lodha, Anil Dave and Sudhansu Jyoti Mukhopadhaya. On August 31, they handed down a unanimous judgment, ordering the case to be tried by a sessions court, where Hussain would be adequately defended by a lawyer, and the trial to be concluded within three months. Hussain's appeal lawyer Mobin Akhtar has agreed to defend him in trial, and in case Akhtar does not, or if Hussain does not engage another lawyer on his own, “we direct that the trial court shall provide an appropriate advocate to the accused....” To help conclude the trial at the earliest, solicitor-general P.P. Malhotra agreed that some of the 65 witnesses who were examined by the prosecution but who are not necessary could be dropped.

The judges did obliquely address the politico-rhetorical issues of the state being soft to terrorists. “True it is, that in the incident four persons have lost their lives and several innocent persons have sustained severe injuries. Further, the crime was allegedly committed by a Pakistani,” Justice Prasad said in his judgment, “but these factors do not cloud my reason. After all, we are proud to be a democratic country and governed by rule of law.” :-?
The judgment has been hailed by jurists as well as human rights activists, and may help the state to buttress its argument before the world community that despite being subjected to incessant terror strikes from across the border, the Indian state and its judicial system do not react with anger. “Whether Kasab or the suspect of the 1997 bomb blast case in Delhi, our legal system has followed the right of the suspect to a counsel for over a century in keeping with the modern spirit. By underlining the sanctity of the due process of law the court has highlighted the high moral tradition upon which Indian law is founded,” said senior advocate K.K. Venugopal.
We are condemned to remain a soft state for perpetuity, it seems. Wonder what is with this obsession to look like a "fair and a great democracy" in the eyes of the world

We would be condemned to remain in this sad statee, because we have umpteen people sitting on "glass houses", with high powers; who are given adequate security 24/7. Sitting on a moral high horse, fully knowing that they would not get pulled down and slaughtered would off course give lots of people an urge to go on lecturing.

The problem is not the due process of law being foll0woed but politcial direction on implementation. Using the due process to extend hospitality to convicted felons as a political expedient is repugnant.
It makes the hight moral tradition suspect.

These people are obsessed with earning plaudits from the whites by looking good to them at the cost of national interest -- it is the Nehru syndrome. These judges don't understand that the path to hell is paved with idealism and trying to look good to others. Only those leaders succeed who serve the interest of their race while showing middle finger to the world.

While debates on granting human rights to TSP terrorists and political rights to Maoists goes on, such conecenr doesnt seem to be shown towards policemen of the Gujarat cadre as another officer bites the dust in the name of secularism:

Gujarat cop arrested for fake encounter
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested Deputy Superintendent of police Tarun Barot for his alleged involvement in the fake encounter case of Bhavnagar youth Sadiq Jamal.

Barot, who is now heading the district police in Mehsana in North Gujarat, was with the Ahmedabad Crime Branch when the encounter had taken place near the Galaxy cinema in Naroda area of the city on January 13, 2003.

After the encounter, the crime branch had claimed that they had intelligence inputs that Sadiq was a noted criminal in the league of dons like Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel and had planned to kill BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Sadiq’s brother had approached the high court following which a CBI inquiry was ordered. The agency had found that the encounter was fake. This was the fourth police encounter that has been declared as fake and its probe transferred to the central probe agency. The CBI has already arrested journalist Ketan Tirodkar in the case.

Protests against anti-Islam film at US Consulate in Kolkata

Kolkata: Hundreds of Muslims marched towards the American Centre in Kolkata today to protest against an anti-Islam video and to demand that the US authorities apologise for it.

The protesters, belonging to Muslim organisations, including the All-Bengal Minorities Youth Federation, broke barricades and tried to approach the highly-fortified American Centre on Chowringee, but were stopped some distance away, police sources said.

The protest grid-locked traffic bumper-to-bumper on Chowringhee and CR avenue in central Kolkata and had a ripple effect elsewhere, including the south and the north in the metropolis.

They wanted the content to be blocked, GOI blocked it before these guys could organize any protest. Both, American President and Secretary of state in a joint press conference regretted the incident and appealed for calm.

Now, what is the issue with these guys? Why this fresh protest? This will cause significant loss for the business community and certainly will bring discomfort for common man commuting through that area.

Another day, another weirdo judgement :-? :-? :
My name is Khan, but I am not a terrorist: SC

Ensure that no innocent has the feeling of sufferance only because ‘my name is Khan, but I am not a terrorist,’ Bench tells Police

No innocent person should be branded a terrorist and put behind bars simply because he belongs to a minority community, the Supreme Court has told the Gujarat Police.

Police must ensure that no innocent person has the feeling of sufferance only because “my name is Khan, but I am not a terrorist,” a Bench of Justices H.L. Dattu and C.K. Prasad said on Wednesday.

It ordered the acquittal of 11 persons, arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act and other laws, and convicted for allegedly planning to create communal violence during the Jagannath Puri Yatra in Ahmedabad in 1994.

“We emphasise and deem it necessary to repeat that the gravity of the evil to the community from terrorism can never furnish an adequate reason for invading personal liberty, except in accordance with the procedure established by the Constitution and the law,” the Bench said.

Being an anti-terrorist law, the TADA’s provisions could not be liberally construed, the Bench said. “The District Superintendent of Police and the Inspector-General and all others entrusted with operating the law must not do anything which allows its misuse and abuse and [must] ensure that no innocent person has the feeling of sufferance only because ‘My name is Khan, but I am not a terrorist’.”
‘Means more important’

But in the country of the Mahatma, the “means are more important than the end. Invoking the TADA without following the safeguards, resulting in acquittal, gives an opportunity to many and also to the enemies of the country to propagate that it has been misused and abused.”In this case, Ashraf Khan and 10 others, who were convicted under the TADA, the Arms Act and the IPC were aggrieved that no prior approval of the SP, as mandated under the provisions, was obtained before their arrest and recording of statements.
Really pity the police officers who are damned if they do or if they dont

The problem is Islam and rioting Muslims. You've got it backwards. If Muslims have a problem with it, they should debate not riot.

Idol procession turns violent
Unidentified culprits allegedly threw footwear on the Vinayakar idol on Thursday evening in Berigai during the procession, leading to tension in and around Berigai.

Local people said that when the procession was passing through a small mosque on the Berigai-Shoolagiri road on Thursday evening, chapels were allegedly flown from inside the mosque. This created panic in the area.
This has happened before. Not surprising at all.

Rally against ‘offensive film’ turns violent in Kolkata
Kolkata, Sept 27, 2012, DHNS:

Life came to a sudden halt after an anti-US rally called in by Muslim groups in Kolkata on Thursday against the 'anti-Islam' film 'Innocence of Muslims' turned violent.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon when thousands of protesters, belonging to various Muslim organisations, including the All-Bengal Minorities Youth Federation, blocked the road, broke barricades and tried to enter the American Centre but were stopped some distance away by the police.

Police, however, managed to pacify the crowd and bring them under control, thus preventing any untoward incident, sources said.

“There was a demonstration in front of the American Centre in Kolkata and suddenly the demonstrators turned violent and tried to break the barricade and enter into the centre. We resisted them and persuaded them to conduct their rally peacefully,” a senior Kolkata police officer said.

“We were successful in persuading the demonstrators and there was no untoward incident. No one was injured in the incident,” the officer added.

“Traffic movement in the city faced a serious problem because the road in front of the American Centre is one of the main roads in the city. We had to divert the traffic causing serious jam throughout the city. But now the traffic movement has become normal,” the officer said.

The film, 'Innocence of Muslims', by US director Sam Bacile, has led to violent protests worldwide, including demonstrations in Chennai and Jammu and Kashmir in India.

Muslim groups in India have called for a ban on the film, with one such group filing a PIL in the Bombay High Court.

The Kashmir Valley was rocked by protests a week ago as demonstrators led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik took to the streets, leading to clashes with the police.

The film triggered off violent clashes in Libya where the US ambassador was killed in an attack on the US embassy in Benghazi.

Madurai: Asserting that they were duty bound to protect the Kudankulam Nuclear Plant, a top police official today told the the Madras High Court bench here to dismiss pleas seeking compensation for those affected by police action
against protesters and judicial probe into police firing.

Refuting allegations against police, Tirunelveli SP Vijayendra S Bidari said petitioners, Vanchinathan and Marx, were closely associated with Peoples Movement Against Nuclear Energy, spearheading the stir against the plant.
The protesters had indulged in widespread violence and dangerously moved towards the nuclear plant with deadly weapons, he alleged in his counter-affidavit.

The SP charged that the protestors used even children as human shields to cover their illegal activities. An Open notice had been issued in this regard to PMANE leader P Udhayakumar.

Police had remained highly restrained despite provocation. Narrating the details, he said a strong crowd pelted stones at the nuclear plant on 9 September. The next day they moved towards the plant with weapons. There existed a clear and present danger to the safety of the plant and they did not
disperse despite warning, surrounded police, and abducted some policemen also, he alleged. They brutally attacked police, and police acted with restraint, he said.

Everything including bursting of teargas shells were done on the orders passed by the Executive Magistrate. The agitators spread violence allover the coastal area, and kidnapped a woman sub-inspector, the official alleged.

They had detained two buses besides damaging a TASMAC shop, he said. Police were duty bound to protect the plant. He denied that essential commodities were not allowed into Idinthakarai, focal point of the protests, and that police
damaged properties of people.

The so-called fact finding teams were not competent to submit any report, he said, alleging that they had given false reports with vested interest. A Division Bench of Justice P P S Janarthana Raja and Justice N Duraisamy, posted the case to 3 October.
hope situation doesn't worsen further. Case after case in HC, SC, surely the 'affected' must be ruining their life's savings in this program.
