Two-G (2G) Spectrum Scam Tapes and follow-up

"Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" ,exclaimed an exasperated Henry the second.
That is how Thomas Becket ,Archbishop of Canterbury was murdered by overzealous lackeys of Henry the Second, who carried out his words to the letter. In similar fashion what will happen if overzealous lackeys of "Law-less" Minister Kur-shi*,carry out his blood threat to the letter?
It is astonishing and a national scandal that the so-called "Law Minister" behaves in such a lawless manner, both in public and in private. It indicates his true character which makes him fit to be an inmate of Tihar jail. The deafening silence from the Congress party indicates that it has lost the plot and a true revolution, another freedom struggle is required to rid the nation of this nest of parasites, vipers and scorpions, who have a mafia-like octopus grip on the nation,to the detriment of its people.

1 lakh or 71 lakhs. The point is not the sum. It is about the Principle. having said that, if the law minister of India uses such language and has not been asked to resign by his masters. What message is that sending to the nation at large.

It is not Congress that tried to split AK/Anna on 'secularism', it is the Stalinist rapist goon puppet yellows..who started propagating months ago that Anna should not make the 'mistake' of JP and allow BJP to benefit. The advise, was, of course, to start taking instructions from Stalinists and their fake-intellectual plants.
If you notice, the Stalinist mass murderers have been very quiet, not exploiting this at all. Reason is very simple, India will never vote these traitors to power, the only way to serve Beijing/TSP is to make sure the dynasty, weakened and vulnerable to arm-twisting, stays in power but does not get too much power and run off with its own agenda....
Which is why puppet yellows are hitting, but only creating flesh wounds, to keep their credibility, while at the same time trying to attack and weaken AK/Anna by raising secularism bogey.
Dynasty, which though greedy for power is by no means anti-national by definition or ideology, is falling into this trap, turning itself into 'useful idiots' for the anti-national Beijing puppets' cause. Either that they are too clever, want to exploit the rapist goons and their yellows for what it is worth, grab power without having to depend on them and thereby turn them into useful idiots.
Hope the latter is true..if not there will be price to pay that could be too high...

From a thoughtful article by Surjit Bhalla -
I wonder whether he reads BRF, some of his phrases are reminiscent of recent posts here.Surely, the most important buzzword is “governance”. But who is interested in governance? Surely not those involved in misgovernance, which would likely include large sections of the political class, and the associated tribesmen. Let us call them the exploiters. The very poor are not interested because they are too poor and too involved in eking out survival. Which leaves us with a large swathe of the middle class, the class that pays taxes, the class that aspires to a better tomorrow and realises that a better future for it can only come about from a better future for all. In stark contrast, the mindset of the exploiters still belongs to an old age, one in which its own betterment can only come about at the expense of others, that is, a zero sum game.

Good article. A few nitpicks:
He talks about middle class governance. What we have now is poor class governance. What US has is rich class governance. Ultimately, the goal should be all class governance since each of these governances limit themselves to a particular class. The other classes suffer as a result of this non inclusive governance methods. A lot of angst is created (some justified) by such division of class.

Hawk's Eye Virbhadra's apple economy for mango man - Economic Times
Virbhadra’s revised income tax papers, filed in January 2012, show that money grows, and exponentially, in apple orchards. The Congress’ chief ministerial candidate for Himachal Pradesh, who owns an orchard 100 kms off Shimla, claimed in his IT returns that he earned Rs 6.57 crore from his 3,000 apple trees spread over 105 bighas. A colleague whose family owns an orchard in Shimla provided some clues on the revenue than can be earned from an apple farm. According to him, 3000 healthy trees can yield an average of 15000 boxes of apple a year (five boxes per tree).
After deducting expenses on cultivation, the earning from a good orchard the size of Virbhadra Singh’s property cannot be more than Rs 15 lakh a year. According to the HP politician’s original IT filing, the declared total agricultural income from his orchard was a total of Rs 47.35 lakh for three assessment years (2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12). This confirms my colleague's assessment on the average income yields from an ordinary apple orchard of similar size.

Protestor at Kejriwal’s news meet is Vadra’s friend: IAC
The man, who the IAC identified as one Jagdish Kumar Sharma, had disrupted Arvind Kejriwal‘s press conference on 31 October as the anti-corruption activist made revelations and charges against Reliance Industries and its alleged nexus with various political parties including the Congress.
The IAC today released several pictures of Jagdish Kumar as evidence. The pictures show Kumar with the Gandhi family at several events. Many of the pictures show him accompanying Robert Vadra.
However, Sharma has denied any connection with the Gandhi family and said, “Kejriwal said aam-aadmi must wake up and ask questions. I have done that.”
In a statement released by IAC it asked, “has the Nehru-Gandhi family descended to Salman Khurshid’s level where they would send goons to disrupt our meeting?”
It also said that in “such circumstances, any attack on IAC activists would have to be presumed to be at the behest of the Congress if unless the contrary is proved.”

Cong admits giving interest-free loans to revive National Herald
Paging Clown - Clown Prince? Where are you? Sue now.... Bozo!Breaking its silence, the Congress on Friday rejected allegations levelled by Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy and maintained that its support to National Herald newspaper was interest-free loans yielding no commercial profit to the party. After the party spokesman and other top leaders during the day refused to go into Swamy’s allegations, the party came out with its position in a late night press release.
Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said in the release that the Congress has done its duty in supporting The Associated Journals Limited to help initiate a process to bring the newspaper back to health in compliance with the law of the land. “This support was extended by the Indian National Congress in the form of interest-free loans from which no commercial profit has accrued to INC,” the release said.

My paradigm is different: it is possible for somebody to have useful things to say about economic policies affecting cost of living for the mango man, or systemic anti-corruption measures, without necessarily having said a whole lot about national security. Or vice versa.
All actors making some valid points will influence other actors and help set the national agenda.
It is the useless eaters who are doing or saying nothing of value who need to be weeded out, and that includes a big chunk of the BJP and the entire congress.

Swamy's expose -
All the media talking heads (including Swamy himself, surprisingly) are focusing on step 1 above. The real scam is in step 2, wherein the G family becomes a collection agency buying a delinquent 90 crore loan from the congress party, for 50 lakhs. G family not only got the 90 crore that was in AJPL coffers (assuming it had not been spent by the defunct company), but also real estate assets worth thousands of crores, all for 50 lakhs.Pranav wrote:Swamy's dossier - http://www.firstpost.com/politics/swamy ... 11644.htmlvijayk wrote:http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi ... 047761.cms
Sonia, Rahul grabbed property worth Rs 1,600 crore: Subramanian Swamy
The explanation there is a little garbled, but it seems to be an interesting maneuver. The steps are -
1. Congress gives 90 crore loan to AJPL
2. Congress writes off loan and sells it to Young Indian for 50 lakhs. Young Indian being owned by G's. Now Young Indian is entitled to collect 90 crores from AJPL.
3. To pay Young Indian, AJPL transfers its shares to Young Indian.

Re: Two-G (2G) Spectrum Scam Tapes and follow-up
Well, focusing on that would give the greatest benefit I'd think. If the tax exemption for Congress can be revoked based on that action, the government treasury should be able to recover at least 150 crores in tax (based on 500 crores collected in 2010). If the exemption is revoked retrospectively to 2004 (like in the Vodafone case), perhaps 1000 crores in unpaid tax can be recovered.Pranav wrote:All the media talking heads (including Swamy himself, surprisingly) are focusing on step 1 above.
Let's see if IAC takes this up, considering their IRS background.

You also have to look at Swamy's record - iirc he had sued Maino for filing false info in her election affidavit and dropped it inexplicably. He had taken some legal steps related to Maino's KGB pay-offs but again dropped it. He says he has been fighting corruption but as far as I know he has never gotten anybody convicted.
As regards EVM case, the way he is arguing is very weak. It failed in the High Court and will very likely fail in the Supreme Court. That will make it difficult for anybody else to mount a legal challenge to EVMs afterwards. I suppose that state of affairs is not very surprising given that he was the one involved in introducing EVMs into India in the first place. There may be a chance if somebody intervenes in that case now, and I have tried talking to a bunch of people about it, but so far no interest.
Re: Two-G (2G) Spectrum Scam Tapes and follow-up
How so? A comment on this article points out that there is a bigger scam that dates back decades here -Pranav wrote:Well, the congress can very easily claim that restarting the historic newspaper is a legitimate political activity.
JL Nehru starts a company (that prints out news-papers) - then this person becomes the PM - and then the *govt* grants land (at concessional rate) for the news-papers to build - fast-forward a few decades - the papers are taking loses - the
*building* is purchased by "Young Indian" - and it's rented out back to the govt - for a monthly rent of INR 30 lakhs. Hmmm.. Is there any "sane" person in India? Whoever received that rent actually took land from the govt at a concessional rate & then rented out the building back to the govt.

Re: Two-G (2G) Spectrum Scam Tapes and follow-up
Frankly, I'm sick & tired of hearing "the fault lies with/within us" and variations on this theme when talk comes to corruption.
The fault does not lie within us.
Indians are NOT genetically programmed to be corrupt.
It is the systems and processes around us that make us behave the way we do. Humans are fickle – and they are prone to temptation. Indians are no exception. But our behaviour is driven by incentives – or lack thereof.
Acharya Chanakya realised this several thousand years ago. We seem to have forgotten that.
The vast majority of Indians who live and work outside India are honest and law-abiding citizens or residents of the countries they live & work in.
Why? What makes us – or them - behave differently in India? Could it be the climate? the heat, perhaps?
No.
It is the systems and processes.
Systems and processes that makes it almost necessary to “be corrupt”, that provide strong “incentives” to be corrupt and that allow such acts of dishonesty to go unchecked & unpunished.
In simple mathematical terms, “Incentive to be corrupt” + “Necessity to be corrupt” + “No consequence of being corrupt” = Deadly cocktail of rampant corruption.
That is what ails India.

Re: Two-G (2G) Spectrum Scam Tapes and follow-up
The issues in the National Herald scam are not so straightforward. The loan per se may not be illegal. The questions which could be explored are -
1. Is it OK for a political party to transfer an asset worth 90 crores (i.e. the loan), acquired from donated funds, to another entity (i.e. Young Indian), for 50 lakh. Note that this transfer of the loan cannot be considered a political activity, since the debt burden on AJPL did not reduce. From the perspective of AJPL it was a mere change of lender, whereas from the perspective of the Congress it was a wanton loss of donated funds. Even if such a transfer is legal, there may be the issue that no proper consent was secured from the AICC or appropriate governing body.
2. Is it OK for a company (AJPL) to dilute its share holding and transfer control to YI, when so many of the listed shareholders are deceased. Was proper consent secured from the successors of the listed shareholders.
Swamy is concentrating on the alleged illegality of the loan, which seems a weak ground on which to proceed.
