Kargil strategy behind IAF chief’s tough talk
:
:
Use of air power had never before been attempted at heights of 14,000 to 18,000 feet and IAF's critical contribution in demoralizing intruding Pakistani forces by destroying supply lines and dumps rewrote existing air combat manuals.

What about the NAVY!!! The IN will shut off Karachi and Pakistan will run out of oil! What good is an Airforce and Mech divisions without fuel?

Oh! I do feel rage about the beheading, so I am going to squelch my brain and let my heart speak on this issue via this video (You will know who the Pakis are represented by in the vid):

More troubling is that the officials, to avoid being pressurized, are circulating misinformation that the hunger strike is over.

Today's feature in HT

http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-new ... 88861.aspx

An important paragraph. It looks like beheading is more common that we think it is. No proof of the same though
While New Delhi is fuming over the beheading, this spiral of violence has been played in the past with both armies trying to balance the numbers. In July 2011, an infiltrator and cross-border source of the Pakistan army was killed in Keran sector of Kashmir by the Indian army. The Pakistan army’s reply was swift as two troopers of 20 Kumaon regiment — Jaipal Singh Adhikari and Devender Singh — were beheaded. The Indian army apparently kept quiet and waited for an opportune moment. Three months later, heads of three Pakistani soldiers went missing with Islamabad lodging a protest with New Delhi on the alleged killing. In August, 2003, Pakistani troops ambushed an Indian patrol in Nowshera sector and killed four troops of the Jat regiment. The intruders beheaded one soldier and took his light machine gun. A month later, nine Pakistani soldiers were killed in the same sector with heads of two missing. On February 27, 2000, Sepoy Bhausahed Maruti Talekar of Maratha Light Infantry was beheaded by Pakistani troops in Jangad in Rajouri sector but curiously a ranking pan-Islamic jihadist, Ilyas Kashmiri of Al Qaeda, was given credit with Islamabad displaying the badge and weapon of the solider in a macabre display. This apparently was a response to allegations that Indian troops had killed 20 Pakistani villagers in a raid after the Kargil war.

If this rage feeling that we all Indian are feeling right now, if it can be poured into a satirical poem, this is how it would be (read the bold part)

With "Salman the Kursed" and "Shinde of Pindi", not to mention the "Zero" of Sharam-al-Sheikh,what hope is there of India actually responding in turn to Paki perfidy? Just give these quislings a few more days and they will spin it out as if the IA is the problem who should be allowing the Pakis to fire at will, behead as they please and in the fullness of time, possess Kashmir! When k=joker and peacenik MKB spoke of normalcy in the valley,he was in turn sent packing by Col. Kaul who asked how was it that 750,000 Kashmiri Pandits were not able to return to the Valley and had to live in refugee camps?

The nation's rage is growing dangerously reaching breaking point.Another outrage from Pak,by either its uniforrmed scum or scum in civvies, may result in a spontaneous open upsrising of the Indian populace. The protests over the gang rape has shown the rage of the nation.

CCS Approves 3-Fold Hike in Armed Forces Financial Powers
India has hiked the financial powers of its army, navy and air force headquarters three-fold to facilitate speedy purchases of essential defence equipment, weapons and systems.

The revised financial powers, under which the three services headquarters can procure up to $30 million on their own, got the nod of the highest decision-making body, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). Existing financial powers of the services headquarters is to purchase up to $10 million.

The Defence Ministry had already given in-principle approval to the increased financial powers in May 2012 when Defence Minister AK Antony had chaired a meeting of the three services chiefs along with the Defence Secretary.

The May decision had come in the wake of criticism mounting that India's defence forces' preparedness to wage a war was very poor due to the approaching obsolescence of its weapons and equipment.

A letter from then Indian Army chief General VK Singh earlier that year to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on poor capabilities of the forces got leaked to the media, resulting in criticism in parliament too and Antony replying to parliamentarians' queries.

The government powers delegation rules stipulate that the Defence Minister can approve purchases at his level worth over $100 million up to $200 million. Any contract over $200 million will have to be approved by the CCS headed by the prime minister, with finance minister, external affairs minister and home minister, apart from the defence minister, as members.

Business estimates suggests that India is likely to buy equipment worth $100 billion over the next decade till 2022. However, the Indian defence purchases have faced a setback due to poor economic performance of the country, resulting in the defence capital budget being pruned by over $2 billion in December 2013. India's official financial year is from April to March

TSP agrees to hold flag meet on Monday in Poonch
TSPA is not going to accept anything. It will put the blame on India. Now that the IA has gone through the ritual, it should use the failure of the flag-meeting to paste the Pakistani positions without much delay. There is no need to drag this matter any further. It is for this reason that an expectant TSPA has mobilized forces. IA should not wait for the political masters to give any green signal.

India is going to ask for the Return of the Head of Indian soldier at the flag meeting? What do we have to give in return? At least get something tonight to give back to them.

China-wary Army for mountain strike corps
NEW DELHI: The Army has come up with a fresh proposal for the new mountain strike corps, apart from two "independent" infantry brigades and two "independent" armoured brigades, to plug operational gaps along the LAC (line of actual control) as well as to acquire "some offensive capabilities" against China.

The raising of the new formations will cost around Rs 81,000 crore, spread primarily over the 12th Plan period (2012-17), with a little spillover into the 13th Plan if necessary, say sources.

"The approved 12th Army Plan, as part of the LTIPP (long-term integrated perspective plan), already ca-ters Rs 62,000 crore for the corps. The Army is now asking for another Rs 19,000 crore," said a source.

With additional armoured regiments and infantry units based in Ladakh, Sikkim and Uttarakhand, the new mountain corps (around 40,000 soldiers) will for the first time give India the capability to also launch a counter-offensive into TAR (Tibet Autonomous Region) in the event of a Chinese attack, say sources.

As with the development of the over 5,000-km Agni-V and 3,500-km Agni-IV ballistic missiles — coupled with the ongoing progressive deployment of Sukhoi-30MKI fighters, spy drones, helicopters and missile squadrons in the northeast — the overall aim is to have "strategic deterrence" in place to dissuade China from embarking on any "misadventure".

The proposal for the new corps — recently approved by the CoSC (chiefs of staff committee) comprising the Army, Navy and IAF chiefs — will of course have to be get the final nod from the CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) after requisite wetting by the defence and finance ministries for it to be implemented. The plan to raise a new mountain corps, headquartered at Panagarh in West Bengal, is not new. Last year, the government had referred it to the CoSC for a rethink and fine-tuning, which has now been completed.

As part of the overall plan for "major force accretion" along the "northern borders" with China, two new infantry divisions (35,000 soldiers and 1,260 officers), have already been raised at Lekhapani and Missamari in Assam in 2009-10. Their operational tasking is the defence of Arunachal Pradesh, which China often claims as its territory.

"Mechanized elements (tanks and infantry combat vehicles) are also being strengthened in eastern Ladakh and Sikkim," said the source. Moreover, a Rs 26,155 crore plan to develop infrastructure along the 4,057-km LAC by 2020-21 is already underway.

The new corps, with two specialized high-altitude divisions for "rapid reaction force capability in mountains", will add to all this. This will give India, which for long has focused on the land borders with Pakistan, some offensive teeth against China as well.

This is critical because China has "aggressively" strengthened its military capabilities in the TAR, with at least five fully-operational airbases, an extensive rail network and over 58,000-km of roads. This, as earlier reported by TOI, allows China to move over 30 divisions (each with over 15,000 soldiers) to the LAC, outnumbering Indian forces by at least 3:1 there.

We should call for a flag meeting AFTER dispatching 20 Pukistan Army pigs to Jannat (10 for 1). Not before.

Calling for a flag meeting now is the UPA's way of castrating any response at the LOC Army Commander level. I dont think it was the Army's decision to call for this meeting. There will be political pressure on the Brigadier to declare "success" in the flag meeting and a "mutual agreement to de-escalate". Once that's achieved, Rajputana Rifles will not be given a free hand to avenge the death of their comrades.

LoC killings: Media drives hard line on Pakistan
Ajai Shukla / New Delhi Jan 14, 2013, 00:37 IST
Since the January 8 killing of two Indian soldiers and the mutilation of their bodies in a Pakistani attack on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), the government has faced a growing clamour from hard-line nationalist sections of the media — especially electronic media — for “action” to be taken against Pakistan.

After a relatively restrained response in the immediate aftermath of the killings, the government — apparently due to relentless media pressure — shifted to a harder line against Pakistan. On January 8, first reports from the army’s Northern Command of the deaths of two Indian soldiers in a “ceasefire violation” in the Mendhar sector, had mentioned that the bodies had been mutilated. Although the press release made no mention of beheading, senior army officers quickly leaked the shocking news that one soldier had been beheaded and the head taken away. Only four days later, on January 12, was this news corroborated by a Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson.

But on the evening of the incident Jan 8, with a crop of retired generals baying on television for the army to be “unleashed” against Pakistan, Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid appeared on television, conveying serious concern but also restraint. The next morning, Pakistani High Commissioner Salman Bashir was summoned to the foreign ministry and conveyed India’s concern. Statements from Pakistan, including one by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, also sought to put a lid on the incident.

MJ Akbar in ToI on Aman ka Tamasha and the recent behadings: http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.co ... -backwards

Pakistan’s generals have measured the Singh government’s girth, and discovered a circumference bloated by hot air. They know that the only reaction from hot air can be flatulence. They've the evidence they need. There were 57 cross-border violations by Pakistan in 2010, 60 in 2011 and 117 in 2012. Delhi’s response has been a private, and sometimes public, campaign to reduce our forces on the border. If it takes two sides to go to war, it also takes a partnership for peace. Manmohan Singh has the look of a lonely man abandoned by the partner of his dreams.

IMHO unless people here want a full fledged war with Pakistan, the only 'fitting' answer for killing of our soldiers is a small cross-LOC raid by army special forces. From what has been posted in the past few days, it is clear that this sort of thing has happened before also and Army has given an appropriate retaliatory response at a later stage. But this media flare-up is sort of forcing the Army/establishment's hand into doing something soon. In that aspect i guess Ajai Shukla does make some sense that while we should be angered at what has happened, we should trust the army to respond whenever it feels appropriate (and i am sure it will respond) instead of being overly jingoistic.

A war with Pakistan will be of no benefit to either us or them.

The fitting answer will be for the IAF to drop LGBs on the TSP Army posts closest to the murder of our soldiers. If the Pakis want to ratchet up the escalation ladder, then fine. We have the military means to humiliate them at each ratchet level. What India currently lacks is political leadership with any notion of self-respect.

US mil was not apologetic to TSP for the Salala attack and we all know the role of TSP there, the rules of engagement along LoC will have to be upgraded to the Salala attack levels, until then there will be no de-hyphenation of Indo-Pak equation and we will have to live with the almost regular ceasefire violations aiding infiltration and the occasional strong reaction will be termed as belligerence on the Indian side, set the right expectations on how serious ceasefire violations will be treated and stick to it.

we called the be-headings the turning point yet the very next day the Pakis were back in business providing covering fire to infiltrators and those good-for-nothing flag meetings are being called.

Received from another journo (i think - he said he wrote for business news) at an informal chat (buying railway tickets) when this stuff and media stuff was discussed*- "Ajai Shukla is a cent per cent Congressi, (apparently he has long history of it). He is full supporter of current Govt and also journos like him who toe govt line also got access to all govt events and inductions. While old hands in journalism, even attached to reputed media houses dont get access. "

*interesting information is that antics of media are now increasingly known. Topic of a fighter flying forum favorite journalist came up and some youngsters openly mocked that fellow and his depiction of "lumpens at protests" on just mentioning his name.

I think the better answer to the Pakistani Bull is for the IN to do a full blockade. During WW1, the RN did not let up the blockade against Germany, thereby forcing the Weimar Government to sign the Treaty of Varsailles. If the IN can hold the blockade for an extended period of time, all of Pakistan suffers, and that is the goal, make the entire damn nation bleed slowly and painfully, therefore pushing that nation to the table where India can force a treaty that favours the Republic not the Islamists. The goal of this is to force Pakistan to either go diplomatic or use the military, and for India to move to a defensive posture and pummel Pakistan if it decides to go on the offensive. India must not go on an Offensive into Pakistan, I don't think anybody wants Indian Taxpayer money to be spent on Pakistani Soil.

Agree. Bruce Lee said the highest form of combat is the art of fighting without fighting. That is what we need to learn. Pakistan is doing the same -- attacking us from within without declaring war.

Like this stuff. And am sure that the TSPA-ians will get their just desserts when the dust settles here too.

And also like the way it has been put across instead of Praveen" be fair to pakis" Swami who would have splashed the area commanders names and blamed them for being over-aggressive.

How do you do a naval blockade without a declaration of war? :-?

The nation declares to Pak to stop its terrorist training/support and for the PAK Army to stop cross border raids starting immediately or on [insert date here] IN will start a blockade of Karachi. Nothing goes in and Nothing comes out.

Indian Navy blockades, Pakistan declares war, India pummels Pakistan, and Indian Navy continues blockade, so that Pakistan's armed forces and economy slowly and painfully grind to a halt.

Shiv Aroor's tweet confirms what I posted a page ago - i.e. the flag meet is due to pressure from the UPA Govt:
@ShivAroor Alacrity in 'talking' to Pakistan needs serious review. Sources say it was MoD that ordered Army to call flag meet. Army not keen so soon.
You call for a ceasefire when:

a) Your objectives have been met
(or)
b) You want to minimize further losses

Neither is true in this case. UPA is intentionally castrating our response.

I will not be surprised if Shiv Aroor is next in the list of media-persons whom the UPA will try to co-opt. Seems like Ajai Shukla sold out long time back

Shukla continues to fly his double-standards proudly. Read it all and get your blood pressure up.

http://www.rediff.com/news/report/loc-k ... 130114.htm

the government has faced a growing clamour from hard-line nationalist sections of the media -- especially electronic media -- for "action" to be taken against Pakistan.
After a relatively restrained response in the immediate aftermath of the killings, the government -- apparently due to relentless media pressure -- shifted to a harder line against Pakistan. On January 8, first reports from the army's Northern Command of the deaths of two Indian soldiers in a "ceasefire violation" in the Mendhar sector, had mentioned that the bodies had been mutilated.

^^ The great "leader" of the nation, MMS and IA's supreme commander, Shri Pranab-babu, still maintain stony silence.
