Mian Ji Ki Kundi or Kundli
Kundli for General Elections 2018
Te hri Mah di
It’s not a typo neither a joke. In fact, I am forced by friends to predict the outcome of elections but I hate to play jotish. However, the confidence posed by them, has encouraged me to take this leap of faith and make out a window into what might happen not in elections 2013 but in the run up to 2018. I am attempting to fast forward to General Elections 2018, touch wood and fly back to our own time. This might bring to fore what is at stake in the coming elections and give some of the anxieties and hysteria a more realistic perspective. So here is how my election kundli reads.Following the possibly exciting rendezvous of the Arab Spring with the Persian summer, the autumn of Pakistan will not be mundane either.
Ten weeks later Chief of the Army, General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani, will pay the farewell call to the newly elected President. The General will complete his extended term late in November 2013. By then he would have spent six long years at the top. His term was extended in 2010 as continuity vis-à-vis our engagement in war on terror was considered strategically important. The war will not have been concluded by then but the international forces in Afghanistan will be about to enter the non-combatant phase. The phase will require from Pakistan a new approach in relations with Afghanistan whose key generally is held by the army chief.General Kiyani is on record to have said that he is India-centric, whatever that might mean. What would be the new chief’s centricity?
And yes, the term of the Indian parliament, 15th Lok Sabha, will expire on 31 May 2014. So there will be elections in India at that time too, if not called earlier. The largest population of fortune tellers might be living in India but that’s no help when it comes to predicting the election’s outcome in that country. One can, however, seek comfort in the fact that whatever the results, there will be no sea change in Indian positions. This at times becomes a disappointment though. The change in India will be limited to who the world leaders will be posing with: an exciting young Gandhi or another cold and calm old hand.

Be kind nice to Pakis. There are strong genetic and cultural bonds between these two nations that can even stop a nuclear war. It is in our interest to protect this genetic and cultural pool.

Khar for addressing issues by improving ties with neighbours
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar Tuesday said regional pivot of Pakistan government was based on wide political consensus that the challenges could only be addressed through improving relations with all its neighbours.“Pakistan had been focusing on improving relations with not only its immediate neighbours but with all Central Asian and Middle Eastern countries as well as with Russia and Turkey,” she said while briefing a group of ambassadors and representatives of the regional countries. The foreign minister invited the ambassadors of the “Heart of Asia Group” to brief them on the perspective and approach of the democratically elected government of Pakistan towards its neighbours as well as in the context of broader region. The briefing was attended by the ambassadors/representatives of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.Speaking about Pakistan’s relations with its immediate neighbours, Khar said that Pakistan enjoyed exemplary relations with China which were based on complete trust and convergence of strategic interests. With Iran, she said Pakistan enjoyed strong cultural and historical relations. The government has further invested in deepening its friendship and cooperation with Iran, she added.Regarding India, the foreign minister noted that despite difficult relations in the past, Pakistan strongly believes that the only way forward was through building trust and confidence. While Pakistan remained committed to normalising its relations with India, to sustain these relations on a long term basis, it was essential that the two countries addressed all their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, in a meaningful way, she added.About Afghanistan, the minister noted that peace and stability in Afghanistan was not only essential for peace and stability in Pakistan but also for the broader region. They also commended Pakistan’s vision for the region and the efforts it had made towards normalising relations with its neighbouring countries.

Paki finance minister Hafiz Sheikh resigned. His chief job was begging IMF for more money. But the man is a bit sensible. During the last NATO blockade, he was running from pillar to post convincing people that Pakistan will go down the pakistan if they didnt get baksheesh from Unkil.

Rumors are that he might lead an interim caretaker government.

Govt vetoed Hazaras’ demand: Army was ready for Quetta deployment
ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday refused to accept the main demand of Shia leadership and Hazara community for army deployment in Quetta although the military was ready to take on the responsibility.

The decision for not calling in army under Section 245 of the Constitution was made by the political leadership. The armed forces are not reluctant to provide security to the Hazaras,” a senior military official told Dawn after Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani met President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf at the Presidency to discuss the situation arising out of Saturday’s Quetta bombing.

Had the government asked for it, the official said, the army was ready to take action against the killers.

Pakistan determined to bring down trade barriers with India: Rehman
"Our regional pivot focuses on bringing down an architecture of trade barriers both with India and Pakistan, and we are on course, despite flare-ups on the Line of Control in Kashmir, to forge with building investments in peace, trade, economic integration and opportunities for our huge youth cohort," the Pakistan Ambassador to US Sherry Rehman said in her address to the prestigious Harvard University.
"Pakistan's cabinet is considering extending Most Favored Nation status to India while pressing India to dismantle its tariff and para-tariff barriers to Pakistan's exports.
As the US plans to exit from Afghanistan, by the end of 2014, Rehman called for a reality check and the need for a decision based on the ground realities.

"Do not go crashing out in an exit that run the risk of sinking Afghanistan into instability and economic un-sustainability," she said.
If the US does a pivot can the TFTA bakis be far behind?

What about goat, kalashnikov, suicide vest, beard, coffin, mushroom cloud, vaseline, burkah, peach bottom etc.? Would they not be more appropriate?
