Actually abhishek, I remember reading on BRF during BJP's rule about NDA/RSS plan to hand over land in J&K to Pakistan. It was touted by those on the forum as a kind of land for peace deal. NDA was deeply in love with Musharraf due to his seductive ways with them and the US

INC=surrender to Pak irrationality to buy Muslim amity
BJP=surrender to Pak irrationality to buy triumph of Hindutva ideology over all Indians
Communists = surrender to Pak irrationality to buy triumph of commie ideology
All others=surrender to Pak irrationality for any heck of reasons

As for Jaswant Singh's book, I don't remember a single member of BJP/RSS/VHP/whoever questioning him about how he could advocate a plan(the Cabinet Mission Plan) which would have put the India-Pakistan boundary on Delhi outskirts in the west and Bihar-Bengal border in the east.

India is truly undefended by its self-described 'thinkers and doers'.

If that is true, then I am not a fan of NDA. I do not support any govt that wants to hand over our land to any country.

For what its worth:
Government 'spineless' on Sarabjit Singh and other issues: BJP

By PTI | 27 Apr, 2013, 04.42PM

BANGALORE: BJP on Saturday described the attack on Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in a Pakistani jail as the "most unfortunate episode" and slammed the alleged "weak and meek" response of the government on this and other issues, including Chinese incursion.

"It is a spineless government. Not just this episode. Even when two Indian soldiers were beheaded (by Pakistan), the government did not utter a single word," BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.

He said on the Chinese incursion in Ladakh region, the government was fighting shy "even to take the name of China" and to take a strong stand against it.

"It (attack on Sarabjit Singh) is a most unfortunate episode. The government did not do anything. It speaks of a weak and meek response of government."
Attack on Sarabjit Singh shows failure of India's foreign policy: BJP

By PTI | 27 Apr, 2013, 06.36PM IST

NEW DELHI: BJP today attacked the government for not taking concrete steps in Sarabjit Singh's case, saying the attack on the Indian prisoner inside a Pakistani jail reflects the "total failure" of India's foreign policy.

"It is a very sad incident. The Government of India should take stern and effective steps in this case. Sarabjit's incident proves finally that India's diplomatic clout and foreign policy has been totally demolished," BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said.

He said what is more painful is that Sarabjit's family members had expressed their apprehensions to the Home and External Affairs Ministers in this regard, but the government did not take any concrete steps to prevent such attack on the Indian prisoner.

"Sarabjit's condition of a coma indicates to the 'coma- like' condition of India's foreign policy. The foreign policy of India is slowly slipping into a coma," he said.

"Sarabjit's incident cannot be taken as an isolated incident. The way Pakistan (troopers) beheaded an Indian soldier, Chinese incursion in the Ladakh region and the incidents in Sri Lanka and Maldives reflects the total failure of India's diplomatic and foreign policy," he said.

He also said the attack in Lahore jail highlights the inability of Pakistan government and its anti-India sentiment.

In Bangalore, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu slammed the "weak and meek" response of the government to Sarabjit and other issues, including the Chinese incursion.

"It is a spineless government. Not just this episode.Even when two Indian soldiers were beheaded (by Pakistan), the government did not utter a single word," Naidu told reporters.

"It (attack on Sarabjit Singh) is a most unfortunate episode. The government did not do anything. It speaks of a weak and meek response of government," he said.

49-year-old Sarabjit was rushed to state-run Jinnah Hospital in Lahore where he was in a "deep coma" and had been put on a ventilator. Doctors were unable to perform surgery on him because of extensive internal bleeding caused by a severe head injury.

Shia leader injured, guard killed in attack
A prominent Shia leader, Syed Allama Baqir Zaidi, sustained bullet injuries while his guard was killed when their car was ambushed by unidentified gunmen in Liaquatabad on Saturday.

The slain guard, identified as Qasim Jafri, was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while doctors tried to save his life.

Attacks targeting members of the Shia community have been on the rise since the start of 2013. Shia religious leaders have been frequently targeted in Karachi by extremists.

Fellows, pay attention to what is happening.

I think the talibs are having a real material impact on the elections. They are systematically killing ANP and MQM, shutting down their offices and terrorizing their candidates from campaigning. Obviously the people who benefit are going to be Non-ANP/MQM. Rumor is that PPP has reached out to SSP for atleast temporary peace during polls. As everyone knows Immy is a closet Jihadi, MMA is openly jihadi, PML-N is a jihadi-aspirant (Shahbaz Sharif declared that Pakjab government is striving to govern according to Islamic principles, so the taliban should not attack Pakjab and should attack other places instead!!).

There might be no dramatic centuries, but the systematic low-key terror and attacks are painting Pakistan a deeper shade of green. The fellows who get elected into office are likely to be talib sympathizers, because non-talib sympathizers have been Bull-cuttled.

Let me go ahead and make a prediction. If elections are held, and if a "nominal" government is formed, within 2 years, they are likely to introduce Egypt-like pious legislations. At that time, I plan to do a "I told you so" post. Blasphemy laws and hudood ordinance is not going away anytime soon -- if anything, they will be piously implemented once it is clear that the so called "liberal secular" media elites dont win elections.

http://dawn.com/2013/04/27/blast-near-m ... n-karachi/
At least two people were killed and around 25 others, including two children, were injured in two separate blasts near an election office of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi on Saturday night...This is fourth terrorist attack in five days in the metropolis, which is financial hub of the country. At least 23 people have died in these attacks.

Although no group has so far claimed responsibility of the blasts but the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) vowed to target secular political forces of the country, naming Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and MQM.

Jail officials involved in attack on Sarabjit, alleges sister
The brutal assault on Sarabjit Singh, who is in "deep coma", was not possible without the involvement of jail authorities in Lahore and Pakistan should take immediate action against the perpetrators of the attack, his family said on Sunday.

"This is not possible without the involvement of the jail authorities," the Indian death row convict's sister Dalbir Kaur said in Amritsar before crossing over to Pakistan to meet 49-year-old Sarabjit who is battling for his life in a Lahore hospital after the brutal assault by jail inmates on Friday.

"Pakistan should take immediate action against the perpetrators of the attack on Sarabjit," she said.

The Pakistan High Commission in Delhi has issued 15 days 'gratis visa' to Sarabjit's wife Sukhpreet Kaur, daughters Poonam, Swapandeep Kaur and Dalbir Kaur to meet the Indian prisoner who is in "deep coma" and has been put on ventilator support.

Dalbir Kaur said, "Sarabjit had been stabbed with knives and someone must have told the jail inmates that all these were available in the prison. This had been intentionally done to Sarabjit.

"I am not ready to believe that they grabbed the keys from the jail warden. I think the warden himself gave the keys and they made most of that opportunity. Why his barrack was changed at the time when other Pakistani prisoners were having food," she asked.

Kaur recalled that when she had gone to meet Sarabjit in the jail, the prison authorities had not even allowed to carry her handkerchief. The food items she was carrying for her brother were checked after tearing the packets, she said.

Sarabjit was convicted for alleged involvement in a string of bomb attacks in Punjab province in Pakistan, that killed 14 people in 1990. His mercy petitions were rejected by the courts and former president Pervez Musharraf.

His family says he is a victim of mistaken identity and had inadvertently strayed across the border.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh termed the assault on Sarabjit inside jail as a "very sad" incident. "It is very sad. I think in the jail, I think some inmates attacked him. I think that is very sad," he has said.

Rather than an act of purely political violence it is likely that at least one of the attacks in Kohat was a case Green on Green Mohammadden religion inspired violence as one of the politicians whose office was targeted , namely Syed Noor Akbar Alam, is a member of the minority Shia sect of Mohammaddenism:

Hardly surprising given that “Pakistaniyat” is built on the hateful foundation of Mohammadden bigotry and exclusivism which is a negation of “Insaaniyat”, further that the foundation of the country was built on the petrifying fear of the democratic will of the majority of the people of a united Indian Sub-Continent as that would have made it difficult for Mohammadden elites to protect their privileges:
Pakistan has no faith in democracy, humanity: Ghulam Nabi Azad

"It is very unforunate. We have an example here. A Pakistani militant who was in jail and because of whom so many people died in a Mumbai hotel, till he was hanged, not only were crores of rupees spent on his protection, even his lawyer's fee was taken care of", he told reporters here, apparently referring to Amir Ajmal Kasab.

"This is the difference between India's democracy and humanity and that of Pakistan. We are still following the age old tradition of treating even our enemies in a humane manner. Pakistan has no faith in democracy, no faith in humanity", he said.

Muzlims don't kill muzlims. Ooh, Yeah.

Karachi: Student killed by a guard laid to rest
A student, Hamza, who was fired at and killed Saturday by a security guard of another student here in Defence area has been laid to rest, Geo News reported.

According to police, the two students, Hamza and Shoaib Naveed, got into a fight with each other over a matter of teasing a girl( :P muzlims die for noble cause onlee) at Khayaban-e-Sehr, DHA on Saturday.

Later, Hamza along with his friends and Shoaib with his guard gathered at a restaurant with an apparent intention to square things up but in an unfortunate turn of events their argument led to another, more fierce, fight. And in the heat of the moment, Shoaib told his guard to open fire on Hamza; the guard did the same and killed Hamza on the spot.
Seems like a RAPE-RAPE fight.

So, this year's election celebration(Bomb blasts) is going to be bigger than last years Moharram celebration.

Selective targeting of political parties is Taliban Shura's decision: TTP spokesman
Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Eshsanullah Ehsan while talking to Dawn.com from an undisclosed location said on Sunday that selective targeting of the political parties and candidates was the decision and prerogative of the Taliban Shura.

Replying to a query about sparing the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) , Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam- Fazal (JUI-F) , Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Muslim league - Nawaz (PML-N) who were also contesting elections within the same secular system, to which Taliban are opposed to, he said:

“Taliban shura had decided to target those secular political parties which were part of the previous coalition government and involved in the operation in Swat, Fata and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwah,”adding that “the organisation followed the instructions of the Taliban shura and that it was the shura that decided which political parties to target, where and when.”
Interesting, So Taliban get to decide who would rule pakisatan.

Or, where's the "towel thread" when you need one.

You can’t unravel what’s ruined us. And of course there is no money. Not a nickel.
Before long we shall have rolling deserts (Just like our founders) but without jeep safaris and sun-kissed blondes.
The Economist raised alarm bells but with the country’s top legislators barely able to affix thumb to stamp pad, the frightening report went unnoticed.
With water tables plunging down and the faithful multiplying at dizzying speeds, our very existence is now a question mark. Lahore may be lush green but most of Pakistan is ‘brown, dusty and infertile (Pakis cant be infertile as long as they multiply at dizzying speeds).
Water and sewage pipes intermingle happily and gastroenteritis is the national theme. (I thought Islam was the national theme, tarana, junoon and mohabbat) The Himalayan glaciers are calling it a day and river flows could fall by what the World Bank says, “a terrifying” 30-40 percent. US and Australian dams store 900 days worth of river run-off; Pakistan not even 30 days!!

From the Blog "A Fistful of Memories"
Both Zia & his wife were reportedly very fond of Indian films and Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan, was a craze. No one wanted to miss any of his movies.

In fact, when film Lawaaris casting Amitabh Bachchan was released in India and a print was smuggled in Pakistan, a popular joke was in circulation in Islamabad was:-

“ Zia to his wife after seeing the movie- “Dear, don’t you think my eyes resembles that of Amitabh Bachchan?”

Mrs Zia – “ Darling, your two eyes do not even resemble each other, what to talk of Amitabh Bachchan”
(a) Abbottabad (where Osama was killed), is an Army Cantonment. It was established in 1849-50 by an Artillery Officer of British Army (Sorry for having a soft corner for Gunners). His name was James Abbott – the first appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Hazara district.

(b) Abbottabad, besides having the Army’s officers training Academy, is also Centre of the Army Medical Corps. (After all Osama needed regular medical assistance)

(c) The Baloch Regimental Centre and Frontier Force Regimental Centre are also located in Abbottabad which happens to be the parent units of the present Army Chief, General Kayani and ISI Chief Shuja Pasha.

TSP nearing 9% in fiscal deficit .. Someone go teach them Economics 101!

Our sovereignty depends on lowering the fiscal deficit

Pakistan has been grappling with a budget deficit especially for the past six or so years that many economists inside and outside the country regard as unsustainable. The PPP-led coalition government inherited a 7.6 percent deficit that it was forced to acknowledge was simply untenable without International Monetary Fund (IMF) support after the democracy dividend proactively promoted by President Asif Ali Zardari did not yield the desired results. And the major responsibility for the deficit escalating to unsustainable levels rested with heavy subsidisation by the Musharraf-led government to the oil and power sector for what was considered as political compulsions.

Five budgets presented by the PPP-led government indicate that subsidies specifically to the power sector were grossly underestimated in each year's budget. 2011-12 budget documents indicate that for fiscal year 2010-11 only 84 billion rupees was budgeted as subsidy to Wapda/Pepco and 3.3 billion rupees for KESC; however, the actual subsidy for the two was 296 billion rupees and 47 billion rupees respectively. Last year, the government budgeted 122.7 billion rupees for Wapda/Pepco and 24.5 billion rupees for KESC but actual outlay at the end of the year as indicated in the 2012-13 budget documents was 419 billion rupees and 45 billion rupees respectively. In the current fiscal year the budgeted amount for Wapda/Kesc was 134.9 billion rupees, which has already been exceeded by over 100 billion rupees, and 50 billion rupees for KESC which appears to be a more realistic figure if past releases to KESC are taken into account. With three more months to go before the end of the current fiscal year, the actual amount of subsidies to the power sector would depend on the caretakers and there is evidence to suggest that there are demands for heavy continued subsidisation to the power sector to ensure that loadshedding does not play a role in the elections 2013.

Be that as it may, there is also evidence to suggest that all the political parties were on board, particularly PML (N) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, prior to the announcement of the 14-member cabinet by the Caretaker Prime Minister Khoso. And therefore one would assume that the requested amount by the relevant ministry of more than an additional 100 billion rupees simply to enable Pakistan State Oil to import fuel is likely to be released, which in turn, would have major repercussions on the budget deficit.

Fiscal deficit has to be met through three sources. Bank & non-bank borrowings and forex loans. Already servicing of existing debt consumes the single largest portion of the budget. Persisting with large deficits means more loans with the additional cost; leaving very little to expenditure on social sectors as well as on infrastructure. Dwindling expenditure on these two vital sectors has a direct adverse impact on the economy. Investment dries up due to shortage of skilled labour and crumbling infrastructure increases the cost of doing business. The gap between aggregate demand and production known as the output gap leads to more imports. To pay for these additional imports, country needs to export more. And, to remain competitive it has to depreciate its currency to overcome the inflation differential between prices in the country and in competing countries, as well as with trading partners. One gets into dog chasing its tail syndrome. More one depreciates the currency - there is added pressure on prices. As such, keeping the fiscal deficit below three percent is ideal. Between three and 4.5 is livable. Structural reforms are needed to lower the fiscal deficit and to remain economically independent. Our lack of it is going to cost us our sovereignty.

The question then is what would be the actual deficit by the end of the current year? While a lot would depend on what the caretakers do particularly in terms of subsidies as well as diverting development budgets in support of current expenditure as has been the past practice, yet no one expects the budgeted deficit of 4.7 percent to be achieved. In fact even when the then Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Sheikh, announced this figure it was widely dismissed as unrealistic.

The Ministry of Finance in its budget strategy paper released in the first quarter of 2013 had presented an upward revised estimate of 6.5 percent and few regard this as realistic. What surprised many economists was Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Nadeemul Haq's dismissal of this statistic, in a letter to the Ministry of Finance, in which he estimated a budget deficit of over 8 percent or higher than what was inherited by the PPP-led government. Unfortunately, however, though the latest figures indicate that actual deficit may be closer to 9 percent especially if one takes note of the demand for higher subsidies by the Water and Power Ministry and the likelihood that this may be released by the Finance Ministry. This is simply unsustainable and this fact alone is likely to compel the next government to go for another IMF package with its consequent impact on inflation and quality of life. In short, the task of the next elected government to turn the economy around will be even more of a challenge than when the PPP-led government completed its tenure.

I almost missed this, but I am with DocJi, DipankarJi et. al, that we keep this thread to highlighting Paki barbarians, and I am myself guilty of going off topic, but please, what you say above is unadulterated horse manure, totally defying reality. Sure VajpayeeJi & co didn't cover themselves in glory in the manner in which they dealt with TSP, but the surrender level to which MMSJi has stooped to make us a laughing stock and sitting duck at GHQ/ISI head quarters. Enough said. But I am hoping that despite MMSJi, TSP won't disappoint in terms of their internecine pure Vs unpure blood bath.

Charlie,

Sure he gets it, but I'd like to see his follow up and prescription with dealing with TSP. Even that CIA honcho Bruce Riedel gets it. He points out that per capita, TSP has the most terrorists, he even says its worse than Iran (although I would say that Iran is not even close to TSP in terms of evil), but then you look at his prescription. US will facilitate dialogue between India & TSP, US must give more aid etc. Both India & TSP are "emerging powers" that US has a stake in yada yada. In other words, US rhetoric has changed but the core India TSP equal equal policy has not. If TSP is the evil that Haas and Riedel point out, then the logical question to ask is why is TSP not isolated through sanctions and treated as a pariah nation like Iran and NK are? US policy is tantamount to saying jee,the guy next door is a serial rapist, he rapes and plunders his neighbors, and I as the local sheriff will facilitate dialogue between him and the neighbors, and I will give more aid to this serial rapist.

That sounds fine to me as long as this rule is not used selectively. People remember the importance of "topic relevance" only when the Indian leadership is criticized. Praising the leadership is always relevant in all threads.

In any case, moderators need to tell me/us the appropriate thread for discussing India's Pak policy. Once that happens, it would be interesting to observe how many people really believe that this thread is only for discussing Pakistan's internal matters.

And if some huge event occurs, then often somebody starts a dedicated thread.

Simply a suggestion!

Suicide bomber kills eight in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber killed at least eight people and wounded 43 others when he rammed his motorcycle into a bus on University Road here on Monday, police said.

The bombing took place at Peshawar's Jehangir Abad neighbourhood on Arbab Road close to a police vehicle and also damaged a passing bus.

"The commissioner, who passed just a minute before from the road, was the target of the bombing, but he escaped unhurt as the bomber missed the target and struck his motorcycle into a passenger bus," :rotfl: police official said.

http://pamirtimes.net/2013/04/01/sost-p ... d-traffic/

Sost, April 1: Pakistan and China have resumed trade and traffic on the Karakoram Highway, through the Khunjerav Pass. The two countries had earlier this year agreed to open the border on 1st April, instead of 1st May, as was the past practice.

A bus carrying passengers from China reached the Pakistan Customs House located in the border town of Sost today.

The importance of the trade through the Karakoram Highway has increased significantly due to the powerful presence of Chinese business companies in Gawadar.
It is pertinent to note that the outgoing Pakistan government had handed over the management of Gawadar Port to a Chinese company recently.

The trade through Karakoram Highway has badly been disrupted due to the blockade and destruction caused by the Attabad Landslide and the dammed Hunza River.

currently, tunnels are being constructed near Attabad and Ayeenabad to realign the KKH. The realignment work is not likely to be completed before mid of 2014, according to China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) officials, who are working on expansion and realignment of the KKH

agastya, No raisins for ineptness. And none for the others because the perpetrator was greener than them, even though inept.
If they were greener they would have walked on foot or on donkey's back like in Arabia.

We haven’t even taken the first step and disaster is ready to hit us once more. This nation is drugged and fast asleep. We have to start a crusade. Ignore the issue and get ready to be obliterated.

Bah! That means nothing. Pakistan railways are a zero to start with - what's the point in blowing up nothing?
Lundo area of Sindh had its gando handed to it? That's funny...

former president Pervez Musharraf’s counsel argued before the apex court that condemning his client for the abrogation of the constitution would be discrimination since no other dictator had ever before been tried under the High Treason Act of 1973 :rotfl:
Finally Lahori Logic has reached all the way upto Paki Supreme court
