TSPA fires 7000 rounds at Indian Posts - The Hindu
Amid heightened tension on the border over the killing of five Indian soldiers, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire yet again by firing 7000 rounds of heavy ammunition and mortar shells for seven hours at Indian posts along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. {It seems Poonch is being targetted both externally & internally}

The fresh ceasefire violation late on Friday night, which the Indian Army termed as the “biggest ceasefire violation” in recent times, comes four days after five Indian soldiers were killed by specialist troops of the Pakistan Army on the LoC.

There was no loss of life in the firing from across the border to which the Indian Army fired back effectively.

“Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on several Indian forward posts along LoC in Durga Battalion area in Poonch district around 2220 hours last night”, Defence Spokesman S.N. Acharya said on Saturday.

“They fired 7000 rounds of heavy weaponry Pika ammunition and medium mortars targeting several Indian posts in order to cause heavy causalities till 0430 hours, the Spokesman, said adding that it was “biggest ceasefire violation“.

Army troops guarding the borderline took positions and fired back effectively, he said, adding that troops also fired 4595 rounds of Medium Machine Guns (MMGs), INSAS rifles and KPWT Machine guns besides 111 RPGs, 11 rockets and 18 mortar shells of 81 mm in retaliatory action.

There was no loss of life in the firing from across the border, spokesman said, adding tension is prevailing along the borderline.

The sound of heavy firing and mortar blasts was heard in Poonch town and the firing exchanges triggered panic among the people living in the area.

US to re-open Mid-East embassies, except Pakistan & Yemen

Such is TSP's reputation. Would be happier if Yemen is re-opened soon and Pakistan is delayed.

X Posted from the "Dawood Ibrahim & Underworld Watch Thread".

Various news articles on Shahryar Khan’s comment regards UN designated Mohammadden criminal turned terrorist Dawood / Daood Ibrahim who was given refuge in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Indian Politicians across the political spectrum are not buying the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s act of contrition, if it was such a thing to begin with:

Cutting across party lines, politicians say Pak can’t be trusted on Dawood issue

Zee reports that it in the typical manner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan the declaration that Dawood Ibrahim is not in the Islamic Republic being a half-truth as the UN designated Mohammadden criminal turned terrorist is only temporarily out of that country in order to discharge Mohammadden religious obligations in Saudi Arabia:

'Dawood Ibrahim in Jeddah, will return to Pakistan soon'

Meanwhile Shahryar Khan does a U turn on his Dawood Ibrahim statement:

Pak envoy does a U-turn on Dawood claim, says he only quoted reports

Security analyst Commodore (Retd) C Uday Bhaskar finds Shahryar Khan’s U turn predictable:

Shahryar Khan's U-turn on Dawood Ibrahim predictable: Uday Bhaskar

As most of us have speculated, slowly but surely, the "status quo" is returning to the region, and US has played no small part in achieving that.

Recall, a lot of wishful folks including me were hoping to see a slide in US TSP relations which surely would have benefited India. In fact, many an Indian anal-ysts triumphantly declared that US has replaced India in TSP's paranoid mind.

But its now there for all to see, the virulent anti-India TSP firmly back in the saddle, witness the recent events including Hafeez Pig's taunts etc. What is interesting is that TSP RAPE have managed to quench "extremist Jihadis" (those who hate US & west), and letting loose on full throttle "moderate TSPIans" (which is most of TSP who hate India & Hindus to their last cell), with US is laughing its arse off to the bank :-).

Next few years as India & TSP slide into some kind of full-blown war, "South Asia" experts in US will have their coffers full. US may have lost a lot of troops to TSP perfidy in Afghanistan, but if this trend continues, i.e, US boys back homes safely in return for TSP blood letting against India, I would say overall its a strategic victory for US. That it will be achieved at the cost of innocent Indian blood and perhaps Indian nationhood will be a small price to pay if at as far as US view of the world is concerned.

Such is the pathetic condition of our gober-mint that my only hopes lie with the barbarians of TTP, BLA etc. to teach shit-landers a lesson. Many victims of the drone attacks were members of TTP and after US withdrawal, they will be free to continue their performance in Pakistan. Is there a statistic that how many millitants who fought IA in Kashmir, came from the Taliban? I remember reading a report somewhere that most the slain are Pak-jabi's. If that is the case, then I think that porkiland will be in a serious problem after withdrawal.

Grim stats: Once again nature’s fury takes gloss off Eid
ISLAMABAD : For thousands of Pakistanis affected by the recent deadly spell of monsoon rains, the Eid holidays will not be an occasion to celebrate with their families and friends.
In the absence of a meaningful disaster management system, Pakistan’s average annual losses by natural disasters are around $800 million. Since independence, Pakistan has suffered 20 major floods and an area of 600,000 square kilometres has been affected. During the last three years, 12,000 people have perished due to natural disasters and the country has spent $16 billion for rehabilitation.
Image
At least 84 people were killed, 44 were wounded and 81,341 were affected by the recent rain and flooding, NDMA’s figures show.
It added that 2,533 houses were completely destroyed and 1,782 houses were partially damaged. NDMA said 333 villages were affected where the authority has established 15 relief camps manned by 2,607 people.

Po-Aqua Bomb

Poaqambuldeen Miskeen Screm
Water wars is a phrase used, across the world, to describe increased competition for water resources, due to drought, climate change, or increasing populations; controversies over and reduced access due to privatisation of water services; or the role of these tensions in leading to physical conflicts, within or among nations. A country is said to be facing a serious water crisis as the available water is lower than 1,000 cubic meters per person per year. The case is seemingly more visible in case of subcontinent as locked in a decades-long battle over water with Indian, both Pakistan and India continue to play cat and mouse over the construction of conflicted dams and barrages. India is trying to navigate its way out of a debate with Pakistan over the construction of various Barrages and dams while Pakistan wants to take the issue up in the international community.
Furthermore, the inhabitants of these areas inside Pakistan will have to spar the drinking water paucity. Destruction of water resources and of forest catchments and aquifers is a form of terrorism. Denying people access to water by disrupting natural water distribution and rivers is also terrorism. In the ecological context of water wars, terrorists are not just those hiding in the caves of Afghanistan but those who have been depriving them of their rights. :rotfl: The scenario for Pakistan gets grimmer with further construction of 12 dams on tributaries of river Indus (Sindh). India was using water of Indus River through a tunnel since long, which also amounts to major water aggression. After this, the Indian government brushed aside five main objections raised by Pakistan related to the construction of the Baglihar Dam and commenced construction work. The construction of this controversial project violated not only the Indus Water Treaty but robbed Pakistan of its precious Chenab water. New Delhi also opposed any alteration in the design as recommended by its neighbor. The reality is that Pakistan is on the verge of being water vulnerable. This scarceness is kicking the bucket to the country’s agrarian yield, and so it has very rationality to be disquieted about India’s purposes. According to the conditions set in the Indus Water Treaty, Pakistan was committed dominance over the Indus, Chenab and Jhelum rivers but India was countenanced to apply them for irrigation and electricity propagation, as long as it never divest Pakistan of its legitimate partake. Concerning that India has so soon profaned the conditions of the treaty through its former power generation projects is based more on well researched and established facts. India will soon reach the stage where it has enough dams as mentioned above, to gravely strike our water provision. And why shouldn’t it choose to bring forth so while necessitated in any conflict is flared up?

Afghan Taliban dismiss “illogical” Indian claim over Kashmir clash
ISLAMABAD: The Afghan Taliban dismissed claims by Indian security officials that the Afghan fighters were involved in the recent killing of five Indian soldiers along the Line of Control in the disputed Kashmir region as “illogical and baseless” on Saturday. This is the second time Taliban has denied its involvement in the LoC clash that has heightened tensions between Pakistan and India.
“The Islamic Emirate categorically rejects the allegations of its involvement in the killing of Indian soldiers. The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly told the world community that it will neither harm anyone outside Afghanistan nor will tolerate others to harm us,” the Taliban spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid said.
“The international community is aware that Afghanistan has been invaded by foreign invaders and we have been engaged in jihad against them for 12 years,” he said in a statement. The spokesperson said in a statement there is no logic in the notion to say that the Taliban will be sending their fighters to Kashmir.“The Islamic Emirate wants to assure the international community once again that we have no intentions to fight outside the borders of Afghanistan,” the Taliban spokesperson said in a Pashto-language statement. He said that the Indian officials had earlier blamed the LoC attack on its neighbouring country but later “repeatedly said that the Islamic Emirate’s Mujahideen had been involved in the attack.”A section of the Indian media had earlier quoted unnamed security officials claiming that Pakistan’s ISI may now try to increasingly push the battle-hardened Afghan Taliban into its part of Kashmir.“The Afghan Taliban dismissed the Indian claims and said that it was not Taliban policy to send its fighters out of Afghanistan. The Indian officials were quoted as saying that the Taliban militants were deployed in its controlled Kashmir to launch attacks on Indian forces.

Al-Qaida hiring Pakhana Talent
SANAA: At least seven suspected militants from Saudi Arabia were among the alleged al-Qaida members killed in Yemen in a recent wave of U.S. drone strikes, senior Yemeni officials said Friday, suggesting that Saudis are increasingly crossing the border to carry funds or seek terrorist training.
"Al-Qaida is especially recruiting tech-savvy and well-educated Saudis," one of the senior security officials said.
He added that the terror group also is bringing in Pakistanis, who are explosives experts. He cited Ragaa Bin Ali a Pakistani bomb maker who was killed in a drone strike.

Highly unlikely Pakistan didn't know about Osama's presence in Abbottabad, Shahryar Khan says

LONDON : It is highly unlikely that the government did not know that Osama bin Laden was living in Abbottabad, according to former foreign secretary of Pakistan Shahryar Khan.

Khan who is now Pakistan's special envoy to India told TOI that he didn't really have authentic knowledge of the government or the military's role in hiding Laden but added that both eventualities — Pakistan knowing that Osama was living in the country or its lack of knowledge reflected badly on the country.

Khan said most people in Pakistan refuse to believe that both ISI and the government were taken by surprise when an US navy seals raid in Abbottabad killed the worlds' most wanted man.

Recent US investigations revealed that bin Laden, along with two of his wives and several children and grandchildren had moved into the custom-built compound in Abbottabad — a military garrison town in 2005 and lived there until the US raid.

"It is hardly convincing to think Pakistan didn't have a clue about bin Laden living in Abbottabad for over five years. What's even more surprising is that his safe house was right next to a Pakistani military academy. Both eventualities are bad. If we knew we were harbouring the world's most wanted terrorist, it shows badly of us. If we didn't even know he was living in Pakistan, that's worse," Khan said in London on Friday in a candid interview.

According to recent findings, bin Laden supposedly entered Pakistan in mid-2002 after narrowly escaping capture in the battle of Tora Bora in Afghanistan. Over nine years, he moved to various places inside the country, including South Waziristan and northern Swat Valley. In Swat, the al-Qaida leader reportedly met with Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, in early 2003.

About a month later, KSM was captured in Rawalpindi in a joint US-Pakistani operation, and bin Laden fled the area and moved to Abbottabad.

The raid lasted 36 minutes.

"Local police only arrive on the scene after spotting the flaming helicopter at 1.06am.
Even locals didn't know what the explosion was about," Khan said.

By the time officers arrived at 1.20am, the US forces had already left.

Pakistani F-16s had not scrambled until 2.50am — three-and-half hours after the raid began and 24 minutes after the last US helicopter had left Pakistani airspace.

The US calls the Pakistani military at 5am. President Asif Zardari is informed at 6.45am.

After a week that has seen murderous attacks by militants on police funerals, mosques and buses carrying people home for the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, the US has pulled its diplomatic staff out of Pakistan's second biggest city , citing security threats.

Even though the US consulate in the city of Lahore was closed for the national holiday, all nonessential staff were told it was not safe for them to remain in their homes in the city and that they must move to the capital.

"The department of state ordered this drawdown due to specific threats concerning the US consulate in Lahore," said a travel warning on the US government's website.

The pullout caps a period of soaring militant violence for Pakistan, whose new government has promised it will unveil a much anticipated counter-terrorism strategy on Tuesday. Gunmen have attacked the car of a local politician in the south-western city of Quetta, killing nine bystanders and wounding another 27.

The politician, Ali Mohammad Jattack, an ex-minister in the provincial government of Baluchistan, escaped unscathed.

"They killed innocent worshippers belonging to different communities. This is against humanity, it is brutality on the level of animals," Jattack said.

Quetta was still reeling from a tragedy on Thursday when 21 policemen were killed by a suicide bomber at a funeral for one of their colleagues who had been shot dead earlier that same day.

Other attacks this week include the murder of 13 bus passengers by separatist militants as they travelled through the troubled province of Baluchistan.

Despite heavy security in the capital, a suicide bomber attempted to blow himself up in a mosque in Islamabad where Shias worship.

The attacker was killed in a shootout with guards before he could detonate his explosive jacket. One guard was killed in the standoff.

Sunni sectarian terrorism is one of the main strands of Pakistan's increasingly alarming security crisis.

The US embassy in Islamabad said it was not clear when staff from the Lahore consulate, believed to number around 30 people, would be allowed to return. Diplomatic outposts in Peshawar and Karachi, two cities that are considerably more volatile than Lahore, are not affected.

In Washington, US officials said the pullout was not linked to an al-Qaida threat this week that prompted the state department to shut down 19 US missions in 16 countries in the Middle East and Africa.

Analysts are unsure what is driving the spike in violence in Pakistan in recent weeks.

Many observers expected attacks by the Pakistani Taliban to decline after May's historic elections. During the campaign politicians from parties regarded as liberal and secular by Islamists were attacked by Taliban gunmen and bombers.

But despite the routing of the main secular parties and an early announcement by the new government that it would negotiate with militants, attacks have soared.

Lahore, an attractive, leafy city regarded as Pakistan's cultural capital, does not suffer the regular bomb blasts and killings found in other parts of the country, particularly the restive areas near the Afghan border where members of the Pashtun ethnic group predominate.

Nonetheless, in July a bomb in "food street", a city attraction where families gather to experience Lahore's famous cuisine, killed 50.

Westerners have also been targeted. In August 2011 Warren Weinstein, an elderly US aid contractor, was kidnapped outside his house in Lahore.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, the al-Qaida leader, later appeared in a video claiming credit for the kidnap and issued a series of demands for his release, including the release of all prisoners held by the US at Guantánamo.

In December last year, a 70-year-old Swedish charity worker was shot on her doorstep in the city and later died in hospital.

Lahore is also home to one of America's most wanted men, the hardline Islamist preacher Hafiz Saeed, who is linked to the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The US has offered a $10m reward for information leading to his arrest because of Saeed's alleged masterminding of the 2008 terrorist attacks on Mumbai.

Despite the reward, Saeed lives openly in Lahore. On Friday he led Eid prayers at a gathering of hundreds of his supporters near the city's main cricket stadium.

Islamabad believes that it can continue pursuing its violent course against India with impunity. This conviction must end and New Delhi must devise a short-of-war strategy to give harder than it gets

August 3 witnessed an attempted attack on the Indian consulate at Jalalabad by the Haqqani network, also known as the Afghan Taliban, a hatchet outfit of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate. The attackers were halted before they could reach the consulate and there was no Indian casualty. The car bomb they set off, however, killed 12 persons including Afghan police personnel and school children. Early on August 5 morning, Pakistani troops crossed the Line of Control in Poonch, ambushed Indian Army patrol and killed five soldiers.

The two outrages convey a simple message. Pakistan will do everything to achieve three objectives — annex Kashmir, see that India has no role to play in Afghanistan after the American withdrawal, and implement its strategic doctrine of fomenting internal insurgencies in India to balkanise it and, failing in that, making it too weak by internal turmoil to play any role in South Asia. To achieve these goals, General Ayub Khan, created in the 1950s, a Covert Action Division within the ISI for assisting secessionist insurgents of north-eastern India.

The goal and the strategy to realise it were clearly articulated in India: A Study in Profile, by Lieutenant Colonel Javed Hassan, who later became a Lieutenant General, of the Pakistani Army, who said that India “had a historical inability to exist as a unified state”, he identified Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and the six north-eastern States (it is a small mercy that he left one of the seven sisters out) as being completely alienated from mainstream India. The well-known Pakistani scholar and former diplomat, Husain Haqqani, who refers to the book in his own significant work, Pakistan between Mosque and Military, writes that Lt Gen Hassan felt that “with some encouragement”, the alienated regions could become centre of insurgencies that would “at best dismember India and, at [the] least, weaken India’s ability to seek regional dominance for years to come.”

Lt Gen Hassan’s book was the outcome of a study conducted for the Pakistani Army’s Faculty of Research and Doctrinal Studies, Command and Staff College, Quetta. It was published and distributed by the Services Book Club, Rawalpindi. All this could not have happened without sanction from the highest quarters, which, in turn, indicated that it articulated — or at least was in sync with — official policy. Further, Mr Haqqani points out, in footnote number 20 to Chapter Seven of his book that in several conversations with him, Lieutenant General Hamid Gul, who was Director General of the ISI from 1987 to 1989, referred to an operational plan to encourage centrifugal forces in India that existed when he was Director General of Military Intelligence from 1984 to 1987.

Mr Haqqani further reveals that after the United States had agreed to support the Afghan Jihad and military assistance had begun to flow, Pakistan’s General-turned-President, Zia-ul Haq, wanted a forward policy to be drawn up to deal with India. Following a conversation with him and the then Director General of the ISI, Lieutenant General Akhtar Abdul Rahman, a two-track policy of combining clandestine operations to weaken India with a show of seeking durable peace, was followed, “throughout the years Zia was in power as well as the subsequent years”. The ISI spread its tentacles deep into India following this policy. Several files from Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s office were taken to Pakistan, Indian troop movements were constantly watched, conditions in Kashmir were studied and a search was mounted for Kashmiris capable of leading the “freedom struggle”.

Pakistan used the ISI to arm and train Kashmiri and Sikh terrorists. Mr Yossef Bodansky, then Director of the US Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, wrote in Bin Laden: The Man Who Declared War on America, “The main reason the ISI decided to keep out the CIA out of the camps was the extent of training and support the non-Afghan ‘volunteers’ and others were getting in these camps. Most numerous were the thousands of Islamist terrorists from Indian Kashmir and to a lesser extent the Sikhs from Punjab.”

The havoc that terrorism has played in this country requires no elaboration. India’s help in reconstruction and development efforts in Afghanistan has led to attacks on its diplomatic establishments and nationals in that country as well. The most serious of these was one on the embassy in Kabul on December 7, 2008, which killed 57 persons, including four Indians — Counsellor V Venkataswara Rao, Military Attache Brigadier RD Mehta and two security guards, Ajai Pathania and Roop Singh of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. Another attack on October 8, 2009, on the Indian embassy killed at least 12 people and injured 83, including three security guards of the ITBP. Another on February 26, 2010, targeted two guest houses in Kabul where foreigners generally lived. The attack on the one popular with Indians killed nine of them.

Perhaps the most critical factor on the attacks on the Indian establishments and personnel has been Pakistan’s attempt to install a puppet regime in Kabul. The most important reason for this — besides the perennial one of spiting India — is the search for strategic depth which, as Lieutenant General VR Raghavan wrote in an article in The Hindu of November 7, 2001, “had been a major objective of Pakistan’s policy” that “became an obsession” after the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan. This, in turn, was influenced by two factors. The success of its armed response to the occupation with American support — and with no apparent cost to itself — “gave Islamabad the illusion of being a major player in the geo-politics of Central Asia”. The energy-rich Muslim states of the region “beckoned both Pakistan and energy-seeking multi-nationals”.

The other factor, of course, is the enormous military advantage such a strategic depth would provide against India. It will, therefore, be utterly foolish of New Delhi to hope for peace with Pakistan unless it surrenders Kashmir and abandons Afghanistan. It is time it recognised this harsh fact and also that its policy of resuming talks after initial expressions of anger over outrages, has convinced Islamabad that it can continue pursuing its violent course against this country with impunity. This conviction must end and India must devise a short-of-war strategy to ensure that it gives harder than it receives. There are several options in this area. What is lacking is the will to use any one of them.

Men in Sweden warned after sighting of testicle-eating fish

A small piranha-like fish with a fierce reputation has been found in European waters for the first time

It sounds like the plot to a low-budget horror movie but the discovery of a 21cm fish off Sweden's southern coast should unsettle any man thinking of going for a swim there.

Experts have warned men to keep their swimwear on if swimming in the Øresund channel between Denmark and Sweden after a fisherman discovered a pacu fish - dubbed the “ball cutter” for its habit of attacking male genitalia.

According to The Daily Telegraph, The National History Museum in Denmark has warned that there may be more of the sharp-toothed fish out there.

The pacu, a relative of the piranha that is commonly found around the Amazon, can grow to up to 90cm and weigh in at a staggering 25kg. Fishermen in South America attacked by the pacu have reportedly bled to death after losing their testicles in the fish's vicious teeth.

This is the first time a pacu has been caught in Europe, according to the museum.

“The pacu is not normally dangerous to people but it has quite a serious bite, there have been incidents in other countries, such as Papua New Guinea, where some men have had their testicles bitten off,” said Henrik Carl, a fish expert at the Danish museum, speaking to The Local, an English-language newspaper in Sweden.

“They bite because they're hungry, and testicles sit nicely in their mouth,”
he told the paper.

Carl was keen to tell swimmers not to worry too much. “You're more likely to drown than get your nuts bitten off,” he said.

The fish are found in most rivers in the Amazon and Orinoco basins in South America and have also been spotted in Papua New Guinea, where they are believed to have been introduced in order to boost fish stocks.

Author is editor of chai ghar blog. Amazing how even supposedly liberal Pakistanis like him do propaganda even while begging. I see increasing number of articles by Pakistanis in Indian media most of which turn out to be propaganda pieces. The other day there was an article by Sherry Rehman in The Hindu which was co-authored by an Indian (a Kashmirir Pandit, no less) which actually looked like it came straight from ISPR.

Fellow also heads Jinnah Institute, was headed by Ejaz Haider some time back and Sherry before that. Remember that Sherry was handpicked by the Khakhis to replace (good) Haqqani after the brouhaha about a memo. And nobody here should have any doubt as to whose agenda Ejaz Haider tows. The same Jinnah Institute produced a "study" which pretty much recommended that US should withdraw from Afghanistan, give Nuclear deal to Pakistan and do grand bargain in JK for durable peace in Sooth Asia. So you know whose front Jinnah Institute is.

These are jut a bunch of incestuous RAPEs.

BTW Yours truly's fourth cousin had some romance going on with a Ayesha who works for Jinnah institute.

It would have credibility if they hadclaimed before US killed OBL.and fed him to the fishes.

Philip wrote: Experts have warned men to keep their swimwear on if swimming in the Øresund channel between Denmark and Sweden after a fisherman discovered a pacu fish - dubbed the “ball cutter” for its habit of attacking male genitalia.

OT for this forum, as the pacu isn't related to the paki :D. Seriously though, the Daily Telegraph is spreading more panic than it should. The pacu is a relative of the piranha, but is a lot bigger and mainly a peaceful vegetarian. Unlike the piranha, the pacu's teeth look remarkably like a human's teeth and are designed for crushing fruits and nuts that fall into the water. The danger comes to those who like to swim khullam-khulla as the fish occasionally mistake the danglies as its favorite food. Saw an episode about it on TV on a show called "River Monsters" where the presenter (Jeremy Wade) was investigating the fish in New Guinea, seems that the local govt. had transported it from its native Brazil to New Guinea in the 1960s to provide some food for the locals and they had spread and deforested the vegetation and were occasionally attacking native men who swam commando.

I always make it a point not to let go an opportunity. On that Raza Rumi article, I posted the below:
It is no longer possible for Pakistan to plead its case for 'giving it one more chance'. The author is trying several techniques that we are used to seeing Pakistanis adopt whenever confronted with situations like this. First, he tries to equate India and Pakistan claiming that both have been doing these tit-for-tat killings on the border. Obviously, he cannot start with January, 2013 if he needs a fair and accurate analysis. He should go back to October 21, 1947 and whatever has been happening there has been a continuation of the 'jihad' that Pakistan had declared on India since then, initially covert and now in the open since 1989. So, his attempts to equate the aggressor Pakistan with the aggrieved India is a good attempt but a miserable failure.

Secondly, he claims that Nawaz Sharif is determined to establish 'rapid' peace with India, even against the advice of Pakistani 'realists'. There are many 'holes' in such an articulation by the author. Nawaz Sharif's party has frequently allied with the fountainhead of all terrorism in Pakistan, Sipah-e-Sahba Pakistan (SSP). His ministers openly faluant their association by visiting Jhang and paying obeissance to the Emir of SSP (now rechristened as AWSJ). Nawaz Sharif's brother, Shahbaz Sharif, who rules West Punjab allots funds to the front-end of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), known as Jama'at-ud-Dawah (JUD) from the state's budget claiming that JuD was involved only in charitable work even as the JuD chief, Hafiz Saiyed, proclaims from roof top every day that destruction of India through jihad is his ambition and he will fly the green flag from atop the Red Fort. One of the Pakistani Ministers has just said yesterday that Hafiz Saiyed means no harm to India. Leaving aside such disturbing connections with terrorism, does Nawaz have any real mandate from the Army to deal with India ? Of course, Nawaz spoke brave words of bringing the Army under civilian control etc before assuming power. Even then, he shut up as soon as the Army chief had a long closed door meeting with him even before he was sworn in as the PM.

The Pakistani Army (PA) is in a deja vu like situation as far as Afghanistan goes. The 'defeated' Americans are leaving (just like the 'defeated' Soviets in 1989), the Taliban are most likely to get considerable power, even if not complete power (just like the Pakistan-supported Mujahideen factions after 1989), the Americans need Pakistani help in an orderly and safe withdrawal (thereby giving an opportunity to PA to limit Indian influence in Afghanistan) and the Americans are likely to give all the left-over arms & ammunition to the PA for free. The PA, which is unwavering in its desire to avenge the 1971 defeat, is all set to re-establish the 'strategic depth' and pursue vigorously Op. Topaz of 'a thousand cuts to bleed India to death'.

It is simply foolish to expect the PA to let a civilian, and that too somebody not much liked by it, to handle India at this stage. That is a second reason that talks at this stage are futile. The PA may allow Nawaz Sharif to hold the talks for propaganda and cosmetic purposes and to avoid pressure from the US. But, these talks will be useless.

Thirdly, the author speaks of a realization about the internal threat. Everybody, from Musharraf downwards have parroted this cliched term just like other similar terms we hear from Pakistan such as 'Big Brother India must be more understanding and more generous' or 'China is sweeter than honey' etc. I do not think anybody is going to be fooled by such niceties. Kayani, no less, has called these terrorists 'strategic assets'. Corps Commanders have hoped that these terrorists will 'fight shoulder-to-shoulder' with the PA against India. PA officers have always taken part in iftaar with Hafiz Saiyed. The only threat that the Pakistani Establishment sees is from the 'bad Taliban', but not the jihadi terrorists who, in collusion with the PA attack India or Indian interests in Afghanistan. Pakistan distinguishes between the state-sponsored non-state actors and state-sponsored-now-turned-sour non-state actors. It hardly matters to Indians therefore about the 'internal threat' dimension of Pakistan. Pakistan is trying to fool and befuddle India and the world community through this formulations of 'internal terrorism being its biggest threat'.

Rather than a Pakistani analyst asking Indians to give Nawaz Sharif a chance, I would ask the Indian Prime Minister to give peace a chance and stop dealing with Pakistan.

Five, including one policeman, killed in Karachi violence

http://dawn.com/news/1035211/five-inclu ... i-violence
KARACHI: At least five people, including one policeman, were killed in different incidents of violence in Karachi.

Unknown gunmen opened fire near Chawla Market in Nazimabad, killing police official Nazim Abbas.

Meanwhile, four people died in separate firing incidents in Karachi’s Baldia Town, Garden and Orangi Town areas. A woman killed in Garden Town was attacked at a traffic signal while she was on her way home.

In a separate incident, police launched investigations in Musharraf Colony and arrested five persons involved in extortion activities. According to the police, the arrested persons namely Wasif, Nazeer, Waqas, Wasim and Riaz were wanted in extortion and other crimes. Four TT pistols and other weapons were recovered from the suspects during the raid.

Karachi is home to multiple conflicts that frequently turn violent, including gang wars and ethnic and political rivalries. Militants are said to use the city as a hiding place and a source of funds obtained through bank heists, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.

The Pak army is not famous for asking Nawaz Sharif’s permission whenever it feels the moment is right to murder a few Indians: even if Delhi is undone by amnesia, surely Sharif remembers Kargil. But note the difference. Privately, Nawaz Sharif is probably certain that the Pak army denial is a load of rubbish. But he has supported this denial in order to protect his army. Antony has subverted Indian forces to protect Pakistan.

Mischief is indeed afoot. There now appears to be a definite pattern to recent events even as we speak. As usual,Pak has been speaking with the proverbial forked tongue. One fork is the Paki armed forces and the other the civilian govt. of the "Sherrif of Terroristan".Let's put matters into perspective with a small flashback.

One can understand the genuine desire of Indian leaders to make peace with Pak and usher in a genuine rapproachment. Many of the senior leaders and establishment figures of both nations are of the Partition generation. There is genuine nostalgia amongst individuals on both sides for Pre-Partition days and the hope that while Partition and the clock cannot be turned back, the hatchet may be buried and Peace restored. That was the sentiment which saw ABV make his historic gambit to Pak during the last innings of the Sherrif and how Gen.Mush-a-rat betrayed his and India's great peace gambit with Kargil.Mush-a-rat then added salt to the wound at Agra. This most duplicitous of vermin, was also responsible for the concealment of Osama Bin Laden in Pak,under the very noses/safety of the Paki army at Abbottabad. Poison was further added to the wounds on 26/11 and the Paki army/ISI has seen to it that the wound, like a diabetic sore ,never heals.

Cometh the UPA 1 and 2.We won't go down the Sharam-Al-Sheikh episode again. Here too the desire by the current incumbent of the "hot seat" Dr.Singh, who like ABV is also approaching what may probably be his last months as PM,is also trying his bit to be remembered in history as a "Peacemaker".For Dr.Singh, whose early reign was heralded the world over as a great reformer of the Indian economy, the manner in which the rupee has crashed, growth down below the % of even African nations, his reputation as an economic genius has been wiped out with the current status of the Indian economy.A huge fire-fighting exercise is going on,but the damage has been done in the last 10 years.Yes FDI (the mantra of MMS) will boost the balloon, but FDI comes and FDI runs at the first sign of trouble! Unless we become a great manufacturing nation once again, instead of merely being a nation of traders importing cheap Chinese products,we will sink further.

At the prompting, nay "prodding" of Uncle Sam with his stick,India has been making serious overtures to Pak using backdoor methods.A "grand peace package" appeared to be the hope of the dispensation which would be greeted with joy on both sides and also bring with it a winning ticket at the hustings.Quislings and do-gooder NGOs have been roped in for the media circus to do their bit.But what has happened? Earlier this year we had the beheadings.None of the masterminds of 26/11 have been brought to book,Dawood and Hafiz S. strut in the open in Pak without fear.So what could Pak bring to the table to convince India. The answer frankly is "Nothing" We have now had the latest outrages. Then what is all the talk and flurry about Peace? The answer is another quick flashback to Kargil. One Q that ha snever satisfactorily been answered is the allegation by Gen.Bandicoot that the Sherrif was kept in the loop. How much he actually knew about the ops is debatable, but the inescapable fact is that he knew something.Ss in the Watergate scandal, the Q must be again asked of the Sherrif,in the context of current events,"What did the PM know and when did he know it?".

Events on the chessboard of the Indian Subcontinent must be looked at in entirety. There is a sinister gameplan that is unfolding and facing India across the board are TWO players not one! We the members have in the past, esp. the immediate past,on BR,warned about the window of opportunity that exists because of the weakness and current paralysis of the current regime. It is beset with a tsunami of problems, ranging from daily megascams, natural disasters to the eco crisis. On the security and diplomatic front,India has as said before been pushed into smoking the peace pipe with Pak by Uncle Sam because the Yanquis are retreating from Afghan climes. They desperately need a Deputy in the region and who better than the Sherrif of terroristan who will play ball as the mask of the real rulers of Pak the Army. They want Afghanistan in their pocket, under control to administer and amass the enormous booty that is gained from the drug trade,as well as gaining considerable strategic depth. With a desperate UPA looking for a solution, the double-edged sword is being used.Bad cop the Paki army and jihadis to wound India ,while the Sherrif ,acting in sync.,tries to pour balm on the wounds! the message to india is that unless you make substantial concessions across the table, the Paki equivalent of the Chinese water torture will continue. They have indeed learnt well from their Chinese masters who are the real puppet masters. They too in sync. have
been upping the ante on the border, mac Mahon line what they call the LAC.So the two chess players,Pak
and China, are playing the same gambit, use continuous force to make your opponent kowtow, break his will to stand up and fight, especially when he is weakest,as of now!

Lt.Gen.Ravi Sawhney (retd) has written in today's Deccan Chronicle, that the "Pakistan Army si the guide, mentor and monitor of militants".Karlekar has given us his views that the Pakis will never make a genuine peace and want nothing less than the dismembering of India into several fragments, while the Chinese also want a similar happening, the very least being an India so pre-occupied with internal strife that it cannot challenge China on the world stage. Thus we have every separatist entity and militant group in India being supported with money and material by the Pakis and Chinese. The jihadis, firmy under the direction of the Paki army, continue with their cross-border terror and IM internal terror acts.
The charade of Dawood being "chucked out ,as a peace "opening" ,has now been found to be another tall tale by Pak,that too from the Sherrif's brother! It means that he is firmly part of the plot and is fully aware of the diabolic outrages on the border. This fork speaks "peace",while the other speaks "war",and war is what is being hatched by the Sino-Pak JV,a war where both partners in perfidy will simultaneously gain significantly on the ground.

The weaknesses in the Indian armed forces have still not been plugged.Modernisation,esp. of the IA is woefully lagging. It is only now that a decision on the light-weight artillery has been taken. The establishment of the MSF will take a few years. Both IA and IN are also in the throes of obsolescence of eqpt. during modernisation The opportune time to strike is therefore now.Events in J&K as we speak is also part of the plot.As Karlekar said,Pak lusts after J&K and will have it by any means. It is now creating the internal disturbances that will spiral out of control thanks to the incompetent Abdullah regime, and force India to the table to either succumb at the table or succumb at the battlefield-in concert with the PRC.

So what should Dr.Singh do? Surely by now he too must've realised that he has been led down the garden path by Pak.Both the Sherrif and the Paki army cannot be trusted, and rather than allow the status quo to continue, where an element of trade and open borders has made us drop our guard,he must now take serious measures to stem the rot.As said earlier his economic legacy is in tatters, his peace gambit is disintegrating before his own eyes. What he can and must do is to strengthen the security of India by cutting the Gordian knot of babu red tape that has delayed the most important decisions on defence, that have been languishing for years, and take immediate decisions on a war footing before war engulfs us.The urgent building up of energy and war material stockpiles ,preparing a robust diplomatic offensive against both Pak and China, exposing their perfidy, and taking the entire country into confidence, esp. the Oppn. in the House,so that a united front is shown to both mischief makers. That is urgently needed to try and deter them from executing their masterplan to dismember India. The time has come for the bullet to be bitten.Dr. Singh also has a choice, to go down in history India's "Neville Chamberlain" or be remembered as a latter-day "Lal Bahadur Shastri",a great hero who stood firm in 1965 against enemy attack and defeated its nefarious agenda.

A_Rai,

Thats the definition of cowardice. In fact, just put yourself in the shoes of TSP RAPE/A/ISI/pigLeTs, and what do you think must be their reaction to this Aiya spat, watching debates on Indian TV, with Cong & BJP netas sparring at each other on who was better at dealing with TSP and mocking the other side.

Believe me, I have lost quite a few Indian "South Asian" friends here in US, in fact I had to storm out of get-together, when some of our RAPE pukes would smoke the MSA, ADhothi, and other peace-nick, WKK pipes but refusing to call TSP spade a spade, andsat the same time, spare no punched in going after Modi, Ramdev, BJP etc. And when pointing to MMS appeasement, they not only justify it, but will make a mocking reference to Jassu bhai handing over Masood Azhar after IC814 hijack by Pakis or operation Parakram. When you are outnumbered in the midst of such "Indian" cretins, its not easy to hold back your anger.

Once again, I ask you to put yourself in the TSP RAPE/A/ISI/pigLeTs combine, and gauge for yourself how triumphant they must be feeling. Now couple that with the kind of our RAPE I alluded to above with whom TSP RAPE/A/ISI/pigLeTs wine, dine, and screw; it gives you a complete picture on TSP strategy which is as follows:

Current periodic attacks are directed against us "Hindu extremists" knowing fully well that our RAPE who dominated discourse and decision making will come down hard on us for suggesting anything other than "unconditional and uninterruptable" dialogue, meaning "talks" on TSP terms to hand over valley, Siachen, and whatever else they want.

Now imagine if in fact, us "Hindu extremists" led by Modi were to assume power. Can you imagine the level of terror TSP will unleash, especially after conquering Kabul? And assuming as was the case under Vajpayee, we too would be unable to effectively deal with TSP, then our RAPE will then be having a field day as opposition making the brazen claims as to how much better they were in dealing with TSP, i.e., more bean counting.

Meanwhile India continues to be bitten in slow motion. Pardon my Hindi, but its "Hus kae Liyae Pakistan, lud kae layange Hindustan".

Army chief wanted to hit Pak hard, LoC battle rages
Army chief General Bikram Singh has reprimanded his top commanders in Jammu and Kashmir for not launching a massive retaliatory strike against the Pakistani army along the Line Of Control (LoC) after five Indian soldiers were killed in an audacious cross-border strike in Poonch sector on August 6.

General Singh visited the Nagrota-based Headquarters 16 Corps outside Jammu a day later and, according to top sources, asked senior commanders why local commanders along the volatile border did not order artillery and mortar fire on Pakistani posts.

The chief had instructed local commanders on the LoC to retaliate strongly, if provoked, after the January 8 cross-border raid in which Pakistani troops beheaded one Indian soldier and gunned down another 500 metres inside Indian territory in the Mendhar sector.

The border remained tense with Pakistani troops violating the ceasefire yet again early Saturday, firing more than 7,000 rounds of ammunition and mortar shells for almost seven hours at Indian posts in Poonch sector. In retaliation, Indian troops fired 4,595 rounds of ammunition, including mortar shells.

It was the 58th incident of ceasefire violation this year and came just a day after Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif said the neighbours should honour the 2003 ceasefire agreement and not allow the situation to escalate.

A senior army official said there was no ambiguity in the army chief's orders to mount a massive response in case of provocation by the Pakistani army by way of ceasefire violations.

"The first question the chief asked the J&K commanders was what stopped them from retaliating with artillery and mortar fire. His orders for offensive action were clear," he added.

"I expect all my commanders on the LoC to be aggressive and offensive in the face of provocation and fire," General Singh had said after the January attack.

A top government source agreed with the aggressive stance advocated by General Singh, saying India should be able to punish Pakistan or the so-called non-state actors at a threshold below full-scale war.

The use of artillery could escalate tensions along the border, but it is equally critical for the army to take decisive action to punish Pakistan, experts said.

Under pressure over the mishandling of the Poonch attack - defence minister AK Antony first blamed "persons dressed in Pakistani army uniform" and later retracted, saying the intruders were "specialist troops" - the government has finally been able to build political consensus to launch punitive strikes against Pakistan if such cross-border raids are repeated.

Seems difficult to digest as except for the pressure from our netas, some piglets must have received their 72 in retaliation for sure.
Or the other possibility is that retaliation has already happened with no news coming out from ISPR (again an improbable scenario).

Border volatility: Amidst escalating tensions, Pakistan weighs its options

Azz Predicted

ISLAM BAD:
As India continues to seethe with anger over the August 6 ambush on the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistan has started examining several options, including scaling down its diplomatic staff in New Delhi and shifting troops from its border with Afghanistan to the eastern frontier, The Express Tribune has learnt.
This coincides with a message by Indian army chief General Bikram Singh to his troops to be “aggressive when it comes to dealing with the Pakistani forces” and comes five days after protesters tried to storm Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in New Delhi. In view of serious threats to its diplomatic missions in India, Pakistan can withdraw some of its diplomatic staff,” a senior foreign ministry official told The Express Tribune. Coincidently, India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded on Sunday that Islamabad pull out its high commissioner in New Delhi.
However, the official added that the final decision would be taken by the Cabinet Committee on Defence, the country’s highest forum on national security issues.
Military officials, meanwhile, reacted strongly to ‘unprovoked firing’ by Indian troops on Pakistani check posts in the Sialkot sector. “Pakistan Army will give a befitting response in case of further ceasefire violations,” a senior military official told The Express Tribune. He added that the army could ask the government to withdraw some troops from the border along Afghanistan and redeploy them to the eastern frontiers.“The military brass has finalised this recommendation in internal meetings. And it would be presented in the DCC meeting,” the military official said. He requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid evaded a direct reply to a question on whether the New York rendezvous would materialise. The Pakistan government should own up the responsibility for the attacks on Indian soldiers and the firing on LoC in violation of the 2003 ceasefire.
He ruled out India’s directly approaching Pakistani army chief to ease tensions. “The responsibility must rest with the (their) government. Our meeting point is the civilian elected government of Pakistan, not the Pakistan Army or any other agency,” he told India’s CNN-IBN television in an interview.
Referring to Nawaz’s statement where he tried to deescalate the situation, Khurshid said there was no indication of acceptance of responsibility for the attack. “One element is that the regret about what has happened, which has certainly been mentioned. But, there is no indication of acceptance of responsibility,” he added.
“We have said that we expect responsibility. That hasn’t happened, one. Two, the other concern of what we have been expecting: culpability for what happened in Mumbai. There is no indication of that. And, finally, the statement doesn’t take into account, the outreach and the extra mile that India has periodically gone to overcome great difficulties posed,” Khurshid said.Earlier this week, a bevy of strategic experts, including former military chiefs and top bureaucrats, asked the Indian government to stop talks with Pakistan till the country demonstrated some meaningful steps on combating terrorism.

SLAMABAD: With speculation rife about the next GHQ boss, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif plans to name the successor of General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani weeks before the incumbent’s extended six-year term expires in November this year, sources reveal. The move is aimed at quashing the ongoing guessing game about the next chief of army staff and ensuring a smooth transition at a time when the military is fighting militants on many fronts.“Consultations have already begun to choose Kayani’s successor. The government will not wait until November 28. The decision will come much earlier than the cut-off date,” a close aide to the premier told The Express Tribune.Gen Kayani, who was appointed as the army chief by former military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf in 2007, has already availed a three-year extension granted by then prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in 2010. He is now expected to retire on November 28.The revelation by one of the prime minister’s close aides corroborates an earlier statement by senior leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Raja Zafarul Haq, who recently told reporters that the government would soon complete consultations over the appointment of a new army chief.PML-N spokesman Siddiqul Farooq, however, said that the decision would be taken at an ‘appropriate time.’The scheduled appointment has gained wide attention given past difficulties faced by civilian governments in appointing successors to the coveted military post.Former ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had the chance to appoint a new army chief in November 2010 but instead opted to extend the tenure of the incumbent appointed by a military ruler.
The PML-N decision to appoint the new army chief is also under the lens for the party’s close yet troubled ties with the powerful military establishment, which was twice involved in ousting Nawaz Sharif from power.Critics argue that during the previous two appointments by Nawaz Sharif, Gen Waheed Kakar in 1993 and Gen Pervez Musharraf in 1998, the premier preferred loyalty over merit. However, recent public pronouncements by the premier reflect a growing realisation that he made a mistake in ignoring merit when he made the crucial appointment. Now, the PML-N has taken a stance that it will make its decision purely on merit and will keep seniority in mind when appointing a new army chief. If the principle of seniority is strictly adhered to, then after the retirement of Gen Kayani on November 28, Lt Gen Haroon Aslam, currently Chief of Logistic Staff, would be the senior most general in the army followed by Lt Gen Rashid Mehmood, Chief of General Staff, and Lt Gen Raheel Sharif.
According to defense sources, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be sent a shortlist of three generals from which he would likely pick one.
While the premier can pick any Lt. Gen to head the army, a senior PML-N leader says that given the enormity of domestic and external challenges faced by the country, the government will keep the ability to deal with a wide range of issues as a key decision point when considering the appointment

I'm struggling to respond to that in a civil manner. What happens when they kill 5000? Will he say 'only' 5000 killed, not 50,000? Does he not realize that he is talking the language of defeat? Do the lives of IA soldiers hold so little value to him?

Oh $od it, I'll say what I really want to say, mods can take care of the rest:

Dearly beloved self seeking Sirjee, if and when your children die in an accident, are killed by terrorists, drown to death, succumb to cancer...I'll just say they were only one or two lives, not one or two thousand, why would we want to improve road safety, fight terrorism, diseases etc? Sab f***ing chalta hai.

Indian blood is so cheap for Mani A.I never thought that he would stoop so low in his comments.
What did the great German statesman, the "Iron Chancellor" Otto von Bismark famously say, that the then most troublesome region of Europe, the Balkans,".. are not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier"!

Similarly, the pigsty and sh*thole called Pakistan isn't worth the life of one single Indian jawan. That's why Bismark became Chancellor of Germany and Mani Aiyer remains wallowing in the "ebbs and shallows" of political life, booted out as a minister by his own party!
