Admission of state sponsored terrorism by Pakistani authorities

see this Der Spigel Interview where Musharraf admits to that.

On 7th Nov in TimesNow Channel, Tasneem Noorani, a former Secretary of the Pakistani Interior Ministry, openly said that.

Kiyani called the Haqqanis as strategic assets.

In Dec. 2008, President Zardari himself admitted to ISI helping LeT. He said,"The links between the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency and the LeT were developed in the old days when dictators used to run the country. After the 9/11 terror attacks in the US, things have changed to a great extent"

In an address to bureaucrats in July 2009, President Zardari said: "Militants and extremists were deliberately created and nurtured as a policy to achieve some short-term tactical objectives. Let us be truthful to ourselves and make a candid admission of the realities. The terrorists of today were the heroes of yesteryears until 9/11 occurred and they began to haunt us as well"

In Nov. 2009, Prime Minister Gilani admitted to the support for terrorism by Musharraf as "running with the hares and hunting with the hounds".

When Bush warned the Pakistanis in August 2008 of their support to Al Qaeda, Afrasiab Khattak, President of Awami National Party (ANP) said this: "The question is why it has taken the Americans so long to see what the ISI is doing. We’ve been telling them for years but they wouldn’t buy it.". See here.

In an interview to the BBC as far back as on Feb. 13, 1994, Benazir Bhutto admitted how she handed over to Rajiv Gandhi the complete list of Sikh activists colluding with the ISI in terrorism in the Punjab. Later, Nawaz Sharif described this interview as a faux pas.

Apart from these, of course, numerous Pakistani commentators, analysts, and editors have openly admitted to terror as a state policy.

Why Did Pakistan's Spy Chief Make a Secret Trip to China?
Quote:
Pasha's China trip has been interpreted by some as a tacit act of defiance—a reminder to his American counterparts that the Pakistanis can always look east to their “all-weather” friend across the Himalayas rather than bend the knee to the will of the U.S.

But it also may be a sign of China's growing disquiet with Pakistan. Another top-ranking Pakistani military officer, Lt. Gen Wahid Arshad, had already conducted a considerable tour of China just weeks ago in a bid to improve ties. A few analysts have suggested that Pasha's trip — couched in vague terms about building a “broad-based strategic dialogue” — may have been less a visit and more of a summons.
Quote:
Chinese officials claimed the attacks in Kashgar were authored by the shadowy East Turkestan Islamic Movement, a jihadist organization of mostly ethnic Uighurs, a Turkic Muslim minority that comprises the majority in the far-western Chinese region of Xinjiang. China routinely invokes the specter of the terrorist threat when cracking down on dissent in the restive region. Yet disturbances there tend to be triggered more often by social discontent — many Uighurs chafe at state policies they deem discriminatory and marginalizing — than militant connivance. Pasha's presence in Beijing may mark Beijing's continued efforts to root out Uighur dissidents and sympathizers beyond China's borders, as it has already done in Kazakhstan.

The battle between the uniformed Jihadi’s of the Military of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and their erstwhile proteges, the un-uniformed Jihadi’s, has resulted in over a 1,000 deaths for the Frontier Corps:
IG FC Maj-Gen Mehmood told Nisar that 1,009 troopers had been killed while 2,979 personnel had been injured in operations against militants.

Sindh opposes plan to set up nuclear power plants
The Sindh government has vehemently opposed the federal government’s plan to establish two nuclear power plants on the outskirts of Karachi, citing fears of environmental degradation and the risks associated with nuclear technology.
“We demand this project be scrapped. Not just Karachi, it can put the whole country at risk,” said the chief minister, as the representatives of the Sindh government took a stand against the plan during the ‘long-term development vision 2025’ meeting at the Sindh Secretariat on Saturday.
...
Sindh government also wants to improve trade relations with Rajasthan.
...
The provincial lawmakers stressed the need to open the Pak-India border linking the Sindh and Rajasthan provinces. “Shahbaz Sharif is conducting trade meetings with his counterpart in the adjoining state of India but our chief minister does not even know who the chief minister of our neighbouring state in India is,” lamented Nazar Muhammad Mahar, a former additional chief secretary for planning and development.

No sign of ‘minor’ heart attack, say doctors

RAWALPINDI: Former military strongman retired Gen Pervez Musharraf was taken to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) on Thursday when he complained of chest pain on his way to a special court hearing a treason case against him.

A senior official at the AFIC told Dawn that the former president had been brought to the emergency ward. His heartbeat was not normal and after some tests he was shifted to the Cardiac Care Unit-2 to keep him under observation. Otherwise, the official said, his condition was stable.

He said doctors did not suggest angiography till late in the night. “The patient has been shifted to the CCU to keep him under observation and for precautionary measures. Otherwise, Mr Musharraf is fit,” the official said, adding that all necessary tests had been conducted and no sign of minor heart attack was found.

When this reporter tried to contact AFIC Commandant Maj Gen S.M. Imran Majeed, his staff said he was still at the CCU and they were not allowed to give detail to the media.

No official statement was issued by the army-run hospital about the condition of the former military ruler.

When contacted, Musharraf’s personal physician and former AFIC commandant retired Maj Gen Azhar Kiani said it was not necessary that a patient might complain of heart attack. “Sometimes a silent attack occurs and the patient is kept under observation. Maybe this was the condition of Gen Musharraf,” he said, adding that the former president was not suffering from diabetics, blood pressure or even hyper tension as he had recently gone through all tests and these were clear.

“Apparently, Gen Musharraf is physically fit as he got off his bullet-proof vehicle and walked to a stretcher brought for him and then he was rushed to the emergency ward,” Mohammad Jamil, an onlooker outside the emergency department, told to Dawn.

He said he had seen the former president’s side posture and he appeared to be fresh. “There were no symptoms of sweating and his face was not pale when I saw him on the stretcher,” he said.

Mr Jamil said that before the arrival of Gen Musharraf, the hospital administration vacated the attendants’ room outside the emergency ward and army personnel took over the premises.

“Luckily, I was there for my mother’s angiography and saw all the scenes,” he said, adding that the administration had forced all attendants to leave the place for security of the former army chief.

After the arrival of Gen Musharraf in the hospital, the premises became a no-go area for patients and attendants. Heavily armed military personnel were deployed in and around the hospital and police alerted in the city.

Earlier, roads along the Military Hospital and AFIC were closed for traffic. However, these were opened in the evening.

Russian Saudi Showdown!!

http://consortiumnews.com/2013/12/31/th ... -at-sochi/

Exclusive: Last summer, Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar reportedly offered Russian President Putin a deal: if Russia abandons Syria, Saudi Arabia would protect the Sochi Olympics from Islamic terrorists. Putin is said to have angrily rebuffed the offer. Now, with two terrorist attacks, it’s Putin’s move, writes Robert Parry.

By Robert Parry

Monday’s terrorist bombings only 400 miles away from the site of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, have a geopolitical back story involving implied threats from Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan to Russian President Vladimir Putin last summer when Bandar was pressing Putin to withdraw his backing for the Syrian government.

According to a diplomatic leak detailing the Bandar-Putin meeting in Moscow on July 31, Bandar suggested that Putin’s agreement to abandon the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad would lead Saudi Arabia to restrain its Chechen terrorist clients who have been attacking Russia targets for years. Putin reportedly grew furious, interpreting Bandar’s offer as a warning that the Sochi games would be threatened by terrorism if Putin didn’t comply.

Prince Bandar bin Sultan, Saudi Arabia's intelligence chief, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Prince Bandar bin Sultan, Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the time, I was even told that Putin warned Saudi Arabia of potentially severe consequences – suggesting military retaliation – if Bandar’s implied warning was followed up by actual terrorist attacks like the ones in Volvograd on Monday, killing more than 30 people.

Of course, it is always hard to trace specific terrorist acts back to their origins and many terrorist cells operate with much autonomy. But Putin has staked much of his prestige on a successful Olympics in Sochi, and he also would risk losing face if it were perceived that Bandar had executed a terrorist plan to disrupt the Winter Olympics and that Putin was powerless to stop it.

According to the leaked diplomatic account of last summer’s meeting, Bandar sought Russia’s cooperation on several Mideast concerns, including Syria, and told Putin, “I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi on the Black Sea next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us.”

Putin reportedly responded, “We know that you have supported the Chechen terrorist groups for a decade. And that support, which you have frankly talked about just now, is completely incompatible with the common objectives of fighting global terrorism that you mentioned. We are interested in developing friendly relations according to clear and strong principles.”

Besides safety for the Sochi Olympics, Bandar raised the potential of Saudi cooperation with Russia on oil and other investment matters, saying, “Let us examine how to put together a unified Russian-Saudi strategy on the subject of oil. The aim is to agree on the price of oil and production quantities that keep the price stable in global oil markets,” according to the diplomatic account.

I was told by a source close to the Russian government that this mix of overt inducements and implied threats infuriated Putin who barely kept his anger in check through the end of the meeting with Bandar. Putin viewed Bandar’s offer to protect the Sochi Olympics as something akin to a Mafia don shaking down a shopkeeper for protection money by saying, “nice little business you got here, I’d hate to see anything happen to it.”

Putin then redoubled his support for the Syrian government in response to Bandar’s blend of bribes and warnings. The source said Russia also issued its own thinly veiled threats against the Saudis. The Saudis may have substantial “soft power” – with their oil and money – but Russia has its own formidable “hard power,” including a huge military, the source said.

Bandar and Terrorism

Over the years, Bandar has often treated the issue of “terrorism” as a situational ethic, an ambivalence well-honed since the days when Saudi Arabia and the Reagan administration teamed up to pour billions of dollars into the Afghan mujahedeen and their Arab jihadist allies fighting Soviet troops in the 1980s.

The anti-Soviet effort in Afghanistan brought to prominence Saudi national Osama bin Laden and the terrorists who later consolidated themselves under the global brand, al-Qaeda. In the 1980s, these roving jihadists were hailed as brave defenders of Islam and even “freedom fighters,” but – in the 1990s – they began targeting the United States with terrorist attacks, leading up to 9/11 in 2001.

At the time of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington, Bandar was the Saudi ambassador to the United States and was so close to the Bush family that he was nicknamed “Bandar Bush.” Bandar was also very close to the bin Laden family. After the attacks, Bandar even acknowledged having met Osama bin Laden in the context of bin Laden thanking Bandar for his help financing the Afghan jihad project.

“I was not impressed, to be honest with you,” Bandar told CNN’s Larry King about bin Laden. “I thought he was simple and very quiet guy.”

However, immediately after 9/11, Bandar undermined the FBI’s opportunity to learn more about the connections between Osama bin Laden’s relatives and the perpetrators of 9/11 when Bandar arranged for members of the bin Laden family to flee the United States on some of the first planes allowed back into the air – after only cursory interviews with FBI investigators. The only segment of the 9/11 Commission’s report to be blacked out was the part dealing with alleged Saudi financing for al-Qaeda.

Now, as chief of Saudi intelligence, Bandar appears to be back in the game of coercive geopolitics, arranging weapons for some of the most brutal Syrian rebels and Arab mercenaries operating inside Syria, while offering carrots-and-sticks to foreign leaders who are seen are malleable toward Saudi regional interests. The technique may have failed with Putin but had greater success in lining up the French behind Saudi opposition to a negotiated agreement with Iran on its nuclear program.

As a repressive monarchy that preaches the ultra-conservative Wahhabi version of Sunni Islam, Saudi Arabia is bitterly opposed to the democratic reforms of the Arab Spring and the growing influence of Shiite Islam, which now stretches from Iran through Iraq and Syria to the Hezbollah enclaves of Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia backed the military coup in Egypt that ousted the elected Muslim Brotherhood government of Mohamed Morsi. The Saudis also have stepped up assistance to Sunni-dominated rebels in Syria seeking to overthrow the Assad dynasty that is based in the Alawite religion, a branch of Shiite Islam.

The commonality of interests between Saudi Arabia and Israel has given rise to a de facto alliance between the Saudi monarchy and the Jewish government of Israel. Though historically enemies, Israel and Saudi Arabia are now on the same page in backing Egypt’s military regime, in viewing Iran as their principal adversary, and in wanting a rebel victory in Syria.

The shifting sands of Middle East interests also have pushed the United States and Russia closer together, with the former Cold War rivals sharing an interest in tamping down disorder across the region. President Putin and President Barack Obama cooperated in reaching a tentative nuclear deal with Iran and in convincing Syria’s Assad to surrender his chemical weapons. Putin and Obama are pressing for Syrian peace talks, too.

Now, however, a new complication has been introduced: Islamist terrorist attacks aimed at undermining the Sochi Olympics. If Putin concludes that the Saudis are behind these bombings – that the attacks are the equivalent of a Mafia don having a store torched after the owner rebuffed an offer of “protection” – then the issue of Russian retaliation could suddenly be on the table.

The news about the diversion of Gen Musharraf’s entourage to AFIC was as shocking to the legal team as to the nation,” commented a senior member of Gen Musharraf’s legal team while talking to Dawn.

Even a veteran lawyer like Sharifuddin Pirzada, who is leading the panel defending Gen Musharraf, was upset when he was told during the proceedings that the former president had developed chest pains and had been taken to the AFIC in Rawalpindi.

“It is sad that Gen Musharraf is suffering from heart ailment,” he said. But if someone had contrived the episode to help the former president avoid a court appearance, he had not done any good to Pervez Musharraf, Pirzada claimed.

It means that he is still under the control of Rawalpindi,” he added.

“I believe he still listens more to his advisers who mainly comprise members of the armed forces than adhering to what his legal team is suggesting,” he said, going on to state that Gen Musharraf’s lawyers had no contact with him from the day he was taken to hospital.

Advocate Akram Sheikh, the head of the prosecution team, appeared in agreement with Musharraf’s lawyers when he claimed that the admission of Gen Musharraf to the AFIC did not happen on the spur of the moment.

It looked pre-planned as the forces, including the Rangers and the elite force, had already been posted at a point near the hospital,” the prosecutor told Dawn.

The legal issue Noor raises has its roots in Gen Pervez Musharraf’s SRO that opened the door a crack for an intended surreptitious arrival of the Hindi fare. The SRO sought to camouflage the package by setting certain conditions for the import. In essence, the origins of the product had to be faked.
Hain? Does that mean Musharraf's SRO encouraged piracy of Indian movies?
But then Pakistanis have never disowned Mumbai. They reminisce so fondly about the creative contribution to Bollywood by faces, minds and voices from ‘here’. Mumbai now reciprocates.
This is in sync with the recent RAPE attempts to claim part ownership of Bollywood.

Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai and Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi will address students in Pune on Jan 10. Malala and Suu Kyi will be present at the inauguration of the three-day Indian Student Parliament (ISM) organised by the prestigious Maharashtra Institute of Technology.

An official of the Indian Student Parliament said: "Malala is expected to deliver one of the keynote addresses at the ISP, or Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad. The other address will be delivered by Suu Kyi."

Malala, who defied the Taliban, will speak on women's education, the importance of politics among the youth and share her views on politics, which she intends to join in the near future, ISP founder-convenor Rahul Karad said.

The 16-year-old Malala is likely to visit a few other Indian cities during her first ever trip to India.
l
Have to track this event. I'll be interested in Malala's views on politics especially if she talks about India-Pak. Right now she has generated lot of good will around the world and I hope she doesn't start offering solutions to issues like Kashmir.

Seems like we all remember that. Well Taseer is history, almost to the day; Indian space program and achievements go on. Bollywood is healthy too.

Regarding ownership of Bollywood, Zahida Malik née Ms. V. Malik had come over from peacelands for a little while and quickly became center of controversy, not in India, but in la la peacelands!

Pakis don't seem to own any numerous little controversies that crawl out of peacelands, and only peacelands.

Have to track this event. I'll be interested in Malala's views on politics especially if she talks about India-Pak. Right now she has generated lot of good will around the world and I hope she doesn't start offering solutions to issues like Kashmir.

I would be more interested in knowing who exactly is behind her and why are they pushing her and who is financing her globetrotting. malala is just a kid and a not particularly bright one at that. Why would she even have any "views on politics"??

Room + Board + Lodging + security + Tickets + appearance fee.

Same business model as papa musharaff during his India "visits" except that malala may not be as venomous........

Investors f l ocking to business-friendly Pakistan : Report
ISLAMABAD : Investors are heading to Pakistan to benefit from a newly-elected, business-friendly government that is rolling out a programme to aid the struggling economy, a recently published Wall Street Journal report said.
For all the gains, however, the size is small with the market capitalisation of the companies listed in Karachi at around $52 billion, according to securities firm Foundation Securities Research. The number pales in comparison to neighbouring India where the companies on the Bombay Stock Exchange are valued at around $1.1 trillion.
Guidance : The companies listed on BSE Ltd command a total market capitalization of USD 1.32 Trillion as of January 2013. It is also one of the world’s leading exchanges (3rd largest in December 2012) for Index options trading (Source : World Federation of Exchanges).

RAPEs are maintaining silence regarding GSLV success. Are they busy in figuring out what Jinnah said on August 14th? Or may be Israel launched a rocket on Gaza? Or they are busy enjoying the weekend watching some Bollywood movie. Anyways, hope they read about GSLV launch and express their opinion soon.

TTP has released an official statement on Mir Ali massacre by Pak army. They seem to be talking as if they are in charge of NWA which is good show of ownership.

http://jihadology.net/2013/12/23/umar-s ... -north-of/
‘Umar Studio presents a new statement from the Teḥrīk-ī-Ṭālibān Pākistān: “Documenting the Crimes of the Massacre in ‘Mir Ali’ Market and the Genocide North of Waziristan at the Hands of the Pakistani Military”

Lnqj1

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

In yet another wave of expanding America’s Crusader war in one of its ugliest forms in the tribal areas in north Waziristan, the apostate Pakistani army performed a severe, random bombing using heavy cannons and mortars as well as war planes and helicopters on the 19th of November 2013 in the area of Mir Ali, north Waziristan, that swarms with residents leading to the destruction of a market that had thousands of shops and houses and private possessions as well as the Masjid and the Madrasah, and the martyrdom and injury of thousands of innocent civilians

This random bombing that aims to destroy the area completely upon the unarmed residents, resulted in the martyrdom of two women and three children from the same family because of the rockets and grenades of the Pakistani army. In addition, 6 other civilians were martyred while performing the Fajr prayer in the Jami Masjid in the market. The grenade from the cannon of the Pakistani army fell on a Masjid resulting in the destruction of the Minbar of the Masjid, as well as a portion of it.

The following day, the news of the martyrdom of 42 civilians was confirmed as a result of the random bombing of the Pakistani army. However, the number of martyrs is far more than that, because several hundreds of victims still lie under the rubble, and the Pakistani army has imposed a strict curfew in the area to hide their ugly crimes against humanity, and no one is allowed to transfer the bodies of the martyrs under the rubble
This massacre victimized tens of children, women and the elderly and even animals that were not spared from the crimes of the cowardly Pakistani army that is incapable of anything except killing unarmed civilians with deceptive bombing.

The Pakistani forces were not satisfied with simply targeting the unarmed civilians and random bombings using heavy cannons, mortars and warplanes and helicopters. Instead, it did things uglier than that in ‘Dar al-Musafireen’. ‘Dar al-Musafireen’ is located at some distance from the market of Mir Ali, where the poor workers, most of whom come from the area of ‘Laki Maroot’ and work here at ‘Dar Ali’ with a daily wage to earn a living, reside. The Pakistani army attacked ‘Dar al-Musafireen’ at night and tied up 26 workers with ropes, and then shot them resulting in their martyrdom, all of them.

These hideous massacres of the Pakistani army show that this is a deliberate genocide of the residents of north Waziristan, which aims at killing them and driving them away from their lands, so that the Pakistani army can fulfill the dream of subjugating the tribal lands, a dream dreamt by their masters, the English, when the British forces raided the area during the time between 1860 and 1945.

And here we are documenting the new crimes of the Pakistani army with pictures so that it becomes clear for everyone that the Pakistani forces have reached such a level in the American Crusade against Islam and Muslims, whereby they have exceeded the Jews, Christians and Hindus in committing ugly crimes.

So, where are those who pretend to cry for humanity and human rights and animal rights, and why are they not protesting against the Pakistani Army?

And where are the media outlets and the TV channels, and why are they not covering these crimes of the Pakistani army and relaying the news minute by minute?

Where are those people who scream day and night upon the death of a vaccine employee, and why are they not raising their voices upon the death of hundreds of civilians in a clear genocide?

Where are those who have taken the enemy of Islam ‘Malala’ as a role model for themselves, and why are they not protesting the destruction of schools and targeting of education by the Pakistani army?

Where are those who raise the banners of Islam and peace against terrorism and corruption and against war crimes, and why are they quiet now?

Is their immoral silence because the one performing these crimes is the Pakistani army who is launching a war sponsored by America and Britain against Islam and Muslims, under the pretext of uprooting terrorism, and that is why, it is alright for them to do whatever crimes they want?

For us Allah sufficeth, and He is the best disposer of affairs, and Allah is the Greatest.

In support of Qadri
As many as 250 students from several madrassahs in the city held a rally in support of Mumtaz Qadri on Saturday. The rally was organised by the Mumtaz Qadri Lovers’ Forum 8) . The participants walked from the Punjab Assembly to the Press Club holding banners and chanting slogans in favour of Mumtaz Qadri. Maulana Asharaf Jalali addressing the rally said politicians like Dr Tahirul Qadri, who had called Mumtaz Qadri a murderer, were villains.

The participants demanded that the government pardon Mumtaz Qadri and release him. “Mumtaz Qadri is our hero and we will sacrifice our lives if we have to in order to get him released,” said speakers.

Not just TSP RAPE, but their 3.5, especially, US and its choir boy, UK have been silent.Unless I missed it, I didn't see anything either in NYT or BeeB on the launch laced of course with the usual condescending sentiments about rampant poverty.

India will need to build better relations with Pakistan
Author izz Berry Cherry Intelligent
Some strategic thinkers and policy makers in South Asia and beyond still believe that Pakistan-India relations are a one-sided game and it is Pakistan that should be more serious in improving its relations with India, even on Indian terms. This strategic misconception has been further strengthened in the post-9/11 scenario because some major powers like the US and EU countries have started terming India as a major world power, quite prematurely. Despite that, India is yet far away from attaining this status. Such a privileged position being accorded to it by the west is basically due to their desire of propping up this poverty-ridden country as a counterweight to rising China and also considering it a major trading and investment market due to its vast population and cheaper labour force. In the light of the economic indicators of the advanced economies of some major powers such as the US, Germany, France, Russia, China and Japan, it is difficult to consider India as a major power when its economic growth has recently gone down to 4.7 percent of GDP in 2013. In the real sense India has yet to prove itself as an uncontested regional power in South Asia. This disputed regional status of India is mainly due to its ongoing disputes with almost all its neighbours. Because of the Kashmir dispute, India has remained engaged with Pakistan in a long arms race. Consequently, India become a declared nuclear power by taking the lead in conducting nuclear tests in May 1998 and in the process also compelled Pakistan to become a declared nuclear power. In the light of this established power equation in South Asia and in view of India’s 21st century economic interests linked with the Central Asian Republics (CARs), Russia and West Asia, Pakistan’s future strategic value for India is immense. Hence it does not make sense for Indian policy makers to start declaring India as a major world power unless it builds peace in South Asia by resolving its major disputes with its neighbours including Pakistan. In this regard India should develop tension-free friendly relations with Pakistan as a neighbouring nuclear power. If India resolves the Kashmir dispute in a just manner it will not be a costly bargain for it as compared to the substantial long term gains through the opening up of its trade and energy pipelines to the CARs and Iran through the shortest land route via Pakistan. .
Pakistan’s strategic value for India to meet its objective of becoming a major world power in the earlier part of the 21st century can be better understood if we can visualise India’s future economic and strategic needs, which are linked with Pakistan. For this purpose the route for the pipelines through Afghanistan and Pakistan will be the shortest and cheapest as compared to the route through Afghanistan and Iran using Chahbahar seaport and then by pipelines to be constructed under the sea, avoiding exclusive economic zone of Pakistan. The same is true for India regarding importing iron ore and other minerals from Afghanistan where it is investing heavily and also for large scale trading of goods with the CARs and Iran. . Therefore to meet its higher military and economic objectives to become a major world power, India will need to fully open up with Central Asia, Russia, West Asia and the Middle East through land routes for which it will need to improve its relations with Pakistan in a major way in the next 10 to 15 years. India can surely do this by resolving all major disputes with Pakistan, including the Kashmir issue, through dialogue in a just manner. In this context, although Pakistan can also considerably benefit in economic terms from building better relations with India, it will still be able to wait for a long time to link the development of good relations with India with the resolution of the Kashmir dispute since it does not depend on India to import energy from Iran and the CARs. On the other hand India will not be able to wait for long to meet its future energy shortages by imports from Iran and the CARs through Pakistan for which it will need to improve its relations with Pakistan. This is necessary so that while Pakistani stake holders and policy makers formulate policy options for improving relations with India, they do not underestimate Pakistan’s relative power status and strategic significance for India. In this regard Pakistani perceptions about India’s power status should not be linked with its current weak economic position, being a temporary one, which can be strengthened in a reasonable timeframe by formulating and implementing better economic policies by the current and future governments in Pakistan.

I suppose the theory is that if everyone can read the Quran for themselves without a middleman interpreter, then sectarianism will be eliminated.

1. Neglects the difference between classical and modern Arabic.
2. Historical experience 1: There are a few centuries between getting all Europeans to be able to read the Bible in their native tongues and the end of violent sectarianism in Europe.
3. Historical experience 2: Ongoing sectarianism and violence in the Arabic-speaking countries (Iraq, Syria, Egypt, etc.) suggest that being able to read Arabic is not a cure.

It would be interesting to understand how this "compulsory Arabic" idea is driven by the de-Persianification and increasing Arabization of Pakistan.

I'm also curious - if Massa manages to repair its relations with Iran, will this Arabization trend in Pakistan abate?

Being able to read and write Arabic is *not* going to make Pakistan any better place. There are many reasons. Koran is in a form of flowery Arabic that not many can easily understand even if they are very fluent with the language. And then, Koran has to be understood along with the actions of Prophet Muhammad, the Hadith & Sunna. Also, by 10th Century AD, the four schools of Islam had formed and ijtihad (i.e any newe creative interpretation of the Koran and the Sunnah) has been banned. Sunni Muslims therefore have tp profess one of these. So, a familiarity with Arabic language will not help. The attempt to thrust Arabic language is to complete the wahhabisation of the population. Nothing more & nothing less.

What are you talking about? It was a South Asian success which showed that extremists were in extreme minority and US should have no hesitation in supplying Cryogenic engine technology to Pakistan to alleviate poverty and fight extremism.

India needs to build bigger and taller fence, now that Arabic may be taught in schools. Arabia has huge problem with shia Sunni factionalism, sectarianism, terrorism and sponsoring terrorism, etcetera.
