Brilliant, no words to describe the elated feeling. Have been waiting for this for two decades. Let's go rapidly for even better things from now on. Congratulations ISRO. Simply Bravo.

ISRO has given them the birdie and told them to STFU. Fat lot of good that tech denial did to them.

Very proud moment indeed for India.

And quake in your Mao trousers Chinese drones. This is a staged combustion variable thrust engine with restart capability, the pinnacle of tech. The CHinese cryogenic engines are gas generator cycles, a level down in technology and complexity.

Correct

The americans restricted the russians from ToTing us the cryo tech in the 90s. It took us 25 years to achieve it but it has been finally done today.
And to mention the use B. Sreekumar and Co. to jail Indian scientists on a false case in the 1990's. It took a good 15 years for these scientists to be acquitted.

Nama Parvathi pathaye! Hara hara Mahadeva!
Congrats ISRO, Scientists and India and fellow Rakshaks, what a start to the year!
I hope Nambi Narayanan is very happy today.

I think the brown stain is the "dhrushti pottu" that played its small part in the success of this mission.

Welcome news which was overdue by a few years ! After seeing that quote from ISRO Chairman in TOI yesterday, and the very high level of confidence even before the launch, it had to be successful. Congratulations to all the hard working folks at ISRO.

Not only just preventing russian from transferring of the cryo tech, they(CIA) even created a imaginary spy scandal in ISRO with the help of some rotten elements in IB(B. Sreekumar and Co.). And who were the people arrested in this farce case? Well they are : Nambi Narayanan and Sasikumar who were directly involved in the cryo deal with the russians. Nambi Narayanan was in LPSC and was directly responsible for our ingenious cryo effort after russians were prevented from transferring the tech.
This episode did delay our ingenious effort quite a bit.
A lot of hot shots from media, police and politicians were involved in manufacturing this case.

hopefully they can launch a couple more clones in the next 12 months to test the solidity of the design and move on to heavier 4-5T into GTO launcher which others like ariane5/big panda long march3/angara5 of russia

The irony is that the success of cryogenic engine will make this engine available from the global suppliers.

What a great day for all Indians. Having watched it live residing at the far end of the earth on southern hemisphere I congratulate ISRO for achieving such a great mile stone, mastering a technology worth spending years, sweat, blood and money; shutting many loud mouth adversaries and nefarious forces who never wanted us to succeed.

Heartfelt congratulations for ISRO and Indian Scientific community.

Now that the materials and thermal engineering have been validated in a single cryogenic thing of beauty... we should be confidently looking forward to a semicryogenic engine now.

Now off to read the Briturd rags like peepeecee and dekhonomist as they wail against our space program citing toilets and poverty . Muhahahahahaha

1 (2014-15) more this year itself and 2 (2015-16) in the next year and then 2 more (2016-17) are planned.

pls see my post http://isp.justthe80.com/launchers in the space thread. it seems they are working to up the engine thrust from 73kN to 90kN and carry more fuel. but I guess will use exact same engine as today for next 1-2 launchers before changing any parameter. once that is done, the semi - cryogenic liquid oxygen + kerosene engine proj will take over and close that last remaining gap in our portfolio and permit heavier payload than current cryogenic per the link.

A dream launch, a historic moment and a GIANT leap forward for the Indian Space ambitions, a seat at the big boys table, AND a polite FU to the khans from our SDRE ratnas!!!!

Watched it live and had all my fingers crossed from the launch to satellite separation!! Brilliant brilliant job by ISRO, RnD labs, and Desi industry!! Had tears of joy.. literally!

Many a naysayers and mockers of ISRO and India must've turned in their graves today!!

My first post after lurking for about 7 years.. Looking forward to learning from all the gurus and garus here on BRF!..

lungi dance lungi dance lungi dance lungi dance.. :D

DD hindi commentator was announcing success of cryogenic stage even before 1st stage separation lol..fortunately the expert panelist likely a ISRO engineer going by his style cut in crisply and made it more meaningful.

I watched the launch live in DD, not bad at all... Apart from the overlapping commentary by both English and Hindi commentators everything else was good.. They focussed on the data, showed key people at work and reverted back to the information displayed... DD was better than NDTV which anyway had half the screen covered by tickers and advertisements... Kudos to ISRO, also Kudos to DD for a decent coverage...

felt to shout like that scientist in Frankenstein movie!
(now, please don't start comparing our lovely GSLV with Frankenstein!)

many many congratulations to ISRO teams for accomplishment of this milestone.
i think its a major step forward for achieving the goal of putting an Indian in space by the end this decade.
