Hmm can that SHAR aircraft in th above Photograph from Viraat land on Vikram aditya, but a good idea use the Viraat CBG to protect Vikram aditya from the Red Sea hostile area.

imo it is coming in to land....they tend to pull in from behind and a little to the side in videos .. not sure if the SHAR jet deflectors need some special coating on flight deck to protect.

a typical landing pattern from ark royal

No Chacko, the SHAR just did a deck pass.. If you see the short video clip in NDTV, you can see the plane coming over the carrier, momentarily hidden behind the island and then. Re appearing in the front of the carrier...

IIRC, Shyamd used to refer to a certain airstrip in Oman being used by IAF and IN's air-arm, wonder if the Tu-142's used the facility for this homecoming of INS Vikramaditya. It would explain why the flotilla made its way up to the Persian Gulf.

BTW, great pictures!

Most likely - towed decoys were deployed - something along the lines of the following...

Towed lines:

1.Skipper's clothing being washed.

2.Fed up with Russian grub for so long, the crew are trying to catch some fish with a trawl.

3.Paki spies caught trying to come aboard being fed to the sharks!

PS:Worth recalling.
INS Vikramaditya was spied upon by NATO aircraft and ship last year but the matter was hushed up

since the lines are taut the bait is being disregarded by the sharks below their dignity to feast on such scum

With such a large escorting group, I doubt the Pakis will be able to tell which one is the Vikramaditya's sound signature .

Pranay saheb,
Looked it up on the interwebz and found a picture. Looks like they can probably be rotated up as well as the top and LH view seem to indicate.

I dont know how to resize the picture, click on the link to see it.

Yes, i'm aware (I have served on an aircraft carrier) - these antennae can be pivoted up and down - they are horizontal during flight ops...

Please, no need for the - saheb. Thanks :)

Interesting. I havent seen these antennae on other ships in the fleet (from the picture posted in this thread). Is it because the same antennae are installed somewhere else on those ships?
Thank you.

Guys there is more just than show off to the vikky coming to Persian gulf . Guess what massa and franky deploy their a/c and were waiting to do some mischief. Navy looks like wanted to give big finger to both so they deployed in full force, to show who has bigger dick. No more you can bully around like you did during parakram, now we got bigger danda :

I suspect massa not very impressed with our present CBG, with 8-9 old SHARs, critical ASW helos in short supply, and no Barak type SAM system yet. Thats why we need the DDG Escorts, they are the main threat to massa with their SAM systems.
Even our Subs have become critical.Massa sees all, Massa knows all. Massa smiles.

ofcourse how can one forget the picture perfect mess they have made from libya to afpak. sees all and knows all indeed.

Saar, one of above post abt Navy wanting to show Frenchies and Massa who has bigger d**k, so they deployed in full force, in that context onlee. I should have added the quote for better clarity.

^^ with all due respect rather than ridiculing machismo about massa, please have intelligent discussion from the same link that excercise was not pre planned at all. And there was a reason why navy choose the route it chose andsent such a powerful fleet to receive Vicky when they could have directly go through Arabian Sea straight to karwar. I am just connecting dots which has just slipped the our media or this forum I do not see a simple coincidence to have both massa and frenchie playing jack an Jill went up the hill and Vicky deploying those towed decoy arrays.

I don't think so that is the reason.

It could be any and all of the following.

It does not have the personal on board.
It does not have the gear on board to support SHARs... start up generators, HMT tractors ;-), spare parts,
maybe the fuel and grease that is changed after every sortie needs to be carried over first.

Without any and all of the above onboard Vikram_A .... safety dictates that a SHAR may not land on Vik_A except in a case of emergency.

Last not least a thought popped in my head just as I was writing....
Maybe the first honour of a touchdown on Vikram_A needs to go to a pilot in the mig-29K to make an emphatic statement of coming of age of the panthers squadron (not to mention Navy) and put the final signature in the shift in our carrier strategy... i.e. going from vertical landing a/c to an arrested recover aircraft.

Wouldn't you ? Hell I would ensure that there is a surprise escort and landing of Panthers craft on the Vikram_A once it gets closer which will emphasis that Commander Theo and his boys have not been basking in the beautiful sunny days earlier this year drinking beers but working their ass off on those arrested landings and take off in day and night.

the fishing lines could be
(a) noisemakers to mask the prop noises
(b) passive sonar arrays to listen for other subs
(c) old fashioned seamanship speed measurement test in progress by reeling out the knotted rope + stopwatch.

perhaps onlee tsarkar sir can comment....
